Awww this is cute. We're a "Popular Now" thread separate from the regular "Hot Topics" section hahaha. I love us. HUGS TO YOU ALL.

Majority of the responses is for using LINE right now, and it is fairly easy to use. Let's give this another day or so for more people to check the thread, and if there are no oppositions, we'll go ahead and instigate this :D And we can then use it for this week's episodes as well!

  2. Yesssssss let's do this!

So our candidates are LINE, Whatsapp, Google Hangout and Skype so far? I'm honestly fine with anything. Is Google Hangout something you can only use on a computer? Would you guys prefer mobile or computer? :)

    -

Plot twist: It's a staff member. Not for filming at all. LOL

Thank goodness all five of them are there though. I need some OT5 fun times before the time skip (':

since you have rewatched episodes I am interested whether you have seen the times there has been a yellow and green container beside JH's house tv ( it is also the tv that is at the start of every ep when the intro part is aired)???? most of the times i remember there is only a yellow container

*******also you might like this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA2tWK6jP4Q

I'm sorry to say that I haven’t been paying attention to any of the color theories or hints so far in my rerun. Someone had said that maybe it was because they binge watched 14 episodes of the show and never had to overanalyze that they can clearly see that it had been set up for Taek all along, so my sole goal was to focus on narrative/character relationships (and pure enjoyment factor). :sweatingbullets:

But a video just of Taek's face to appease my Taek withdrawals?! How can I say no to that?!  Thank you, dear~

  4. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I still have some hours to go, but I wanted to say this eventually :D

@gerimisore That was beautiful as always! Please don't hesitate to share more!

@sarsu Omo omo omo this is my new fave fmv. Wonderfully done! Please make another one after we get the last four episodes~ (regardless of endgame) You're right- Taek's POV is beautiful :tears:

@mangachickava I LOVE THIS???? I've been slowly going through all of the episodes these past couple of days, and it finally dawned on me that movies are given a lot of representation. Hell, we OPEN with OT5 watching a movie. At first I thought this was just following the TV theme of all of the Reply series openings, but hmmmmm? Not only does the gang spend most of their time in Taek's room watching movies (aside from eating ramen), but the Sung family often watches TV while they're eating. NL and appa have been seen discussing actresses on a couple of occasions. Similarly, the boys often talk about pretty actresses. It makes me scratch my head a little. You really could be onto something.

Someone breathe life back into me.

I'm going through Taek withdrawals, and the first week isn't even over yet.

You just need to go to the other thread to confirm he's the one...they've got lists of reasons =S...I have this borderline disorder of torturing myself maybe so I've read most of the posts on this..But to be honest I think we all have been trying to find the reason ourselves why he should be the husband or is the husband for that matter =SS.

-- Also if this was a match we could already see the score ...of something like JH-10,TK- 5/6.As yeah the most obvious reason goes as JH having more screen time so far.Now don't know if the writer is going to take the same old route that he's used in the previous two series..or not.

LOLOL I considered this, but I was too uncomfortable with the idea. It took a lot of effort for me to even catch up on the main thread. But I probably should. It's not the same trying to discuss the other side's POV without the other side. Being coddled is not the real world. We need to be exposed to both sides to see the bigger picture right? :)

@tanjam ahhhhh yes. To be an old married couple. (': #relationshipgoals

@Meliere Ohhhh my oh my, my brilliant friend. I treasure your honesty and company so.

  6. Can someone tell me the reasons as to why JH is the husband? Not why TK isn't the husband but specific JH clues? I'm genuinely asking because my mind has kind of dismissed it all in light of TK. I don't want to be blinded haha.

A couple that I can think of include:

    1. JH is explicitly shown reading her postcard and knowing of her crush on SW
    2. They have a photo taken together in January of 1989

"Clues" that I don't really consider clues:

    1. JH likes Lee Miyeon
    2. Husband is almost JH's carbon copy from what we've seen
    3. We've followed JH's story from the beginning

To add on to my list of things that I want to see in the remaining four episodes...

Does anyone want to try seeing the fiasco that is Choi Taek cooking ramen once? LOL. There hasssss to be a reason why the gang don't even bother with him. I can just see him being like, "No. I can do it," (like when DS told him that she'll pull the plug for him) but just ... *goat bleats*

so someone in the main thread translated about the article hehe thanks @tituyphing. the subs are exactly like what @liteulkwin said. but then the article talks about how in the last scene of episode 15 when both guys are looking at DS, TK is wearing white and JH is wearing Black clothes, meaning JH has the advantage. i'm scratching my head because TK was definitely not wearing white?? http://www.instiz.net/pt?no=3476316&page=2&srt=3&k=&srd=1

.... Well that's unfortunately anticlimactic. Are we writing a new color theory?

I interpreted the scene as evidence that Taek is an oh-so-strong player through my objective lens. The writers are channeling Lee Chang Ho so beautifully into Taek. All of the theories we've mentioned thus far about how Taek is an underdog and is laying down his pieces for the win can actually be supported by this scene. Such a small moment, so easily overlooked, but compellingly telling. But is it a real hint or red herring lolol.

  8. @mellinadear Yep yep! We can see here:

    30t3mg2.png

that Taek is black. It's basically a brief scene where the opponent asks Taek to elaborate on his moves. The opponent thought that he was winning, but Taek admits that he's actually a couple of steps ahead of him. This follows right along with how people talk about Lee Chang Ho's playing style in that he makes the opponent think they're winning before he swoops in for the win.

Notice that Taek didn't say that HE had the advantage. He said that THE BLACK PIECES do. Our humble Baduk Master (':

@hafunohane posted this article http://www.instiz.net/pt?no=3476316&page=2&srt=3&k=&srd=1  on the main thread and I KNEW THAT SCENE WAS IMPORTANT...CAN ANYONE TRAnslate from the article or provide subs from the scene ( I think Chinese is out?)

I'm 98% sure this is the dialogue based on Viet subs. Viet inhabitants of Taek's Room threaders please correct me if I'm wrong ... or phrase it better lol.

Opponent: If you placed your piece here, you'd be afraid I couldn't lose, right?

    Taek: Yes.

    Opponent: How's the situation?

Taek: The black pieces have a bit of an advantage.

Opponent: And here I thought I had the advantage. [Haha]

    Edit:

Please tell me when you figure out what the article is saying!

  10. This drama is a form of art, and like art in all of its forms, its beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There is no "right" or "wrong" view. I mean, there's an intended view based on the creator, but no one is wrong for interpreting it in their own light. This goes for both Team TK and Team JH, and while I hate that the passion on both sides is so strong that it breaks the unity of the viewership, hey, this means that the characters are that good, right? All hail Reply 1988!

I was thinking this after I caught myself rewatching this scene over and over

    Spoiler

and looked down at the comments to see what insights I could find only to see that the majority of he comments were viewers being happy to see JH smile again. This I agreed with, but I was kind of shocked all the same because in my mind Taek commanded this scene. My attention was all TK's. But my lens are different from other's. *shrugs* I probably only focused on TK during his confession scene to the gang even though it was through JH's POV. We're all a little blinded by our love, right? Hahaha

I say don't worry about the negative comments (easier said than done). We're about to move onto episode 17 of 20. We're all on the edge of our seats. We have no idea what twist is going to be thrown at us. We're antsy. We're feisty. We've cried. A lot. It's okay to be emotional. Like Taek, we're only human. LET'S HUG IT OUT.

Choi Taek will go down as one of my favorite characters in anything, ever. I refuse to let him not being Husband ruin that. It will not take away from my enjoyment of the show and the beauty of the discussions we've had on this thread.

I know this sounds like loser-bowing-out-talk, but seriously Taek is so brilliantly written. His worth is so beyond the love triangle. I don't say that in a way that's meant to defile the other characters but simply to compliment Taek as an individual. We've talked about him for 106 pages by now and our discussion knows no bounds. Taek's rooooooooom, I love you guys. I'm so glad I decided to create a Soompi account for this drama because it means so much more to me after reading all of these analyses.

On another note, IF TAEK IS THE GOD OF BADUK THEN I AM THE GOD OF LAZINESS PERSEVERANCE. It took me 16 episodes to finally have a look at the Viet subs. It takes me like three times as long to read Viet over English since I never officially learned to and because the sub team uses a dialect I'm not used to. BUT I HAD TO KNOW THE NEW TAEK DETAILS. So I only watched the Taek scenes hehe. THE SCENES ARE SO MUCH BETTER WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND THE DIALOGUE LOL. LESS THAN 24 HOURS UNTIL SUBS.

Anyway, midst the angst I encountered this moment that cracked me up. I don't know if you guys noticed, but Taek briefly looks sooooo offended in his own way here. I'm crying. Even his offended expression is kind.

I'm so sorry that I can't gif this gold. Someone please help a sista out me.

SW: Why do I always end up making the ramen?

TK: Next time I'll make it.

    EVERYONE: No need!

TK: *wounded puppy ft. DR's greedy hand*

@gerimisore THAT WAS YOUR ARTWORK?! OMG I TOTALLY SAW THIS ON TUMBLR. YOU'RE AMAZING.

    1. FIRST SNOW

    Spoiler

This scene started it all for me. I was Team JH for six episodes. Even though I knew that DC Gallers were predicting that TK would be JH's real contender in the love triangle and TK was super cute in every single scene that he was in, I was falling for the tsundere as I always did. But you have no idea how many times I rewatched this scene. It was killing me that I was Team JH, but I could not stop thinking about Taek. This was the beginning. I was on Taektanic before I even realized it. The draw was natural, and it was real. Plus the narration that leads into this scene! "[...] if you're suffering from love-related pains, don't be too sad. Another person may be in love with you right now. And they may just confess to you that they've liked you for a long time even though you were totally unaware." It's revealed that he's been in love with her for a long time, and before this, we catch him noticing the first snow because he remembered that she told SW to confess on the first snow. This falls short of a confession, but it's there: the nerves as he fixes his sentence, the motive of the outing and his feelings.

    2. I'M CHEATING BUT CHINA.

    Spoiler

Specifically these parts but honorable mention to super hot TK's cold shoulder to the press (with epic music) and DS's awe at it all.

Park Boram's Hyehwadong is my favorite OST (along with Noel's Together), so just the OST itself in the first scene had me feeling every feeling I could possibly feel. I sent the first clip to my best friend (who isn't into K-dramas), and she was like, "Omg that was actually so cute. I might cry. Forget your TK, I think I'm obsessed with DS," and it's really true because this highlights who DS is as a person through TK. They're both just adorable individuals. I could easily simply love them on their own, but I choose to love them together. (':

And the photo part! Note that it's shot to focus on their expressions. We learn that DS is comfortable enough to wear TK's clothes, and TK reassuring her that she looks pretty is such a smooooooth moment. STawp.

    3. THIS SCENE DOESN'T NEED WORDS

    Spoiler

It doesn't. I had to eliminate beach date for this. This >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anyone's dates. Sorry not sorry.

Honorable mention since DS isn't actually in the scene: THE REASON TK LIKES DS

    Spoiler

Taek bb let me hug you.

That was way too hard already. I don't even know were to start for things that I want to see. I'm hoping Shin-PD will give us just enough to be satisfied... But speaking in terms of what's going to happen next here, you guys already know that I'm really excited to see 1994 Taek hahahahahahaha :D I'm just excited to see how much he's grown off screen. It'd be great character-building for him to physically separate from Ssangmundong because what we see of him there is his neighbors adoring and babying him. He has a life outside of Ssangmundong, but he always comes back home to it. The neighbors can't gang up and baby him once he's outside of the block. They'll have to realize that he's way more than they've grown accustomed to seeing him as since he was young.

*starts fantasizing what TK's method of proposal would be ... to whomever he marries but just in case I'll imagine DS in the place of the lucky lady*

  12. YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT THE BEST PART ABOUT LOVING TAEK IS? JUST LOVING TAEK. I can talk about him for hooouurrs outside of the love triangle.

I loveeee the subtle things, the gradual build-up. As we've established, Taek grows/gets revealed little by little, and these episodes totally catered to that in the way that the neighbors emphasize (via dialogue) that Taek hates favors--but he'll request one from the hospital director just for JH's dad. They emphasize that Taek gets his competitive streak from his father and how he, the super-busy-and-above-the-mundane-things Great Choi Taek 6-dan Baduk Master Sir spends time in the arcade just to beat JB's high score-- but then he swalLOWS HIS LOVE FOR HIS BEST FRIEND. (I get it. JH did it too, but just. the emphasis. on Taek's. personality. It's important.)

Taek is so human that I honestly could have seen him going either way. I wouldn't have been surprised if he were to unleash his competitive side, but I wouldn't have been surprised if he backed down either. This. Is. So. Human! It's okay to have multiple fates! And you know what? He kind of did a little bit of both. He originally laid it down: he's going to confess to DS after his next competition. But then he decides against it. *sounds of my heart breaking and ugly sobs* And I love him more for it.

THIS THIS THIS OH THIS has got to be one of the most beautiful moments this week. It pits minimalistic father and son together to reaffirm their feelings for one another. It's supposed to be unnatural given that this has got to be their longest conversation in the show, but they push beyond that awkward wall with the intensity of their love (and Taek's smile). And then appa can't take the cute and just tells him to eat. KYAAA~ I can soooo relate to this because my dad doesn't do deep conversations, but it's the little things like him saying, "Eat a lot," that actually mean, "I love you."

    Interlude:

    Spoiler

TK is sooooo alike his father! Taekie appa has slowly but very easily become my favorite dad in the series. Like his son, this man has so many layers! First he was the ahjussi who silently swept and ran the jewelry store in the neighborhood. Then we see that he's superman, a bear who's afraid of mice and most recently, competitive and athletic are newfound traits. At the same time, the beauty of it is that these two are not carbon copies of one another. Though very similar in their intensities and core traits, they branch off into their own characters, and it's just so endearing to watch them unveil. (':

@shooastrid ... hats off and deep bows for your baduk post. And @Meliere connecting CHOI TAEK 6-DAN TO EPISODE 6 OMG. YES. I was always a tiny bit curious as to why they chose to start the show off with him as a 6-dan but never seemed to be able to click it with episode 6. Look me in the eye and tell me this isn't a coincidence Shin-PD!

Ummmumumumummmm stayed tuned as I try to decide which scenes are my favorite and what I want to see next :tears:
