But speaking of @anniepanda, looks like you're gonna have to work your photoshop magic sooner rather than later. I think with the soompi contest closing up next month, our badges are going to become a thing of the past, and we won't be able to recognize the Jjongaholics anymore
I want to do one last hurray before that happens. But how do we draw everyone back into the thread... questions, questions..
EDIT: my bad ahhahahaa I got the two prizes mixed up lol. I thought the badges were also taken away after a year but no, it's just the pinned prize haha.

@sara2908 Awww, I just came in here to post that myself! I saw that and had the world's largest motherly smile on my face. I've been trying to see if there's been any notice of Hyeri and this was the cutest thing that we could've gotten
I do hope she rests and decides to pass on the drama though :/ (JOIN PBG'S DRAMA INSTEAD!!)

I'd love to write Taek, but I'm not all that confident in my Taek. He never comes out just right; he's a very interesting character, and it's hard to capture him in writing. @ladyfriday Did a lovely job capturing him, and they've written an amazing, AMAZING fic from Taek's POV. Maybe one day I'll be as good as her

Eeks, you caught onto MY little nuances. I agree with you on that front, I don't believe that DS was as heartbroken as JH. But I believe that as time went on, and especially after his confession, she felt bad for him because the depth of her feelings towards him when she was younger just wasn't the same. So that's what I meant with their little interlude. Despite everything, I believe she might've just wanted to spare any pain the news of DS and TK dating would have on JH.
So I tried to portray just a series of people realizing that TK and DS's dynamics had changed, and just what they taught her also. She's pretty confident in her feelings, but sometimes, it helps to have other people remind her just how much she's always looked at TK and how much he looks back at her.
The thing with the sister bonding was that the sister's seemed fairly close in the future. She was hanging out with them, just for fun and even SW asked why she was there again. I figured it had to have started somewhere, so I decided to make it start in the present.
These fics were a bit more somber, and bittersweet. I meant to add a funny little interlude where DR finds out when SW and JH let it slip that TK and DS are dating. I might work on that next!

Also, YES to kissy scenes. I was thinking about writing exactly what went on during that Japan trip, RAWR, but I grow frightened of scaring the young ones who might be perusing this forum hehe. Might still tinker with that also

Seeing as I got such lovely responses from everyone with regards to the first fic I published, I decided to go ahead and write another.
Please keep in mind that my fic's aren't beta-d, so they're a bit rough around the edges. I hope you'll enjoy them nonetheless and if you'd like to leave me any constructive criticism, I'd absolutely adore that too. I'd love to have anyone also help edit

DS's first and foremost priority has always been her family and in gaining Sunwoo as a brother in law and more importantly, with gaining Taek as a life partner
in crime, these goofs they never changed 40 years down the line either lol, her family expanded and thus, her list HAD to change.Btw, my favorite conversation is also at the beach. But it's the conversation between them as they're drinking coffee, where DS is berating him because she's worried about how he's going to survive in the real world and he's just chuckling because he knows that there's no one like her and he finds it amusing that she could go on and on when he knows he won't ever have a problem because she's going to be the one by his side. Or leading the way.
Basically, they cute, I squeal. Repeat.

Just a little bit of what I think could've happened. It is a DS based POV. It's all fiction, and it's been a long time since I've written anything so I hope you'll be forgiving. If there are any mistakes, please let me know.

But this is something I truly find baffling. Taek is supposed to see all of DS's gestures as motherly, but they weren't. They were never perceived in that way by Taek. Maybe it's because he's a genius?
This is the girl who tried to keep him innocent, but more so than keeping his innocence intact, I think she just wanted to protect him. Protect him from all of the world around him. Protect him from the elements 'you never dress right for the weather', protect him from the prying eyes of the public 'you need to keep your Buddha image intact', from anyone who dared to take advantage of him 'Crazy punk. Repeat after me.'
DS, again, did every single trope that your normal hero would do to the girl he loves towards TK, but it's completely disregarded. Aren't there scenes in countless dramas, where the hero zips up the heroine's sweater, and it causes hearts to flutter?
The fact that everyone disregards and ignores all of the small things that DS did for Taek is quite astonishing. It might be because you don't see her reciprocating entirely, but again, it's not true.
TK was always her priority. She could have crushes, become sexually aware of the people surrounding her but TK was always her safe place. He was her best friend, just like the other boys. But there was always something special about the way he always knew how to carefully treat her and that, THAT is what made DS realize that he was what she wanted. Of course, the lines of communication got mixed up when TK said that he was relieved about the kiss being a dream, but we, the viewers, knew the relief wasn't because of DS. It was because of JH, and out of respect and love for his friend.
But DS didn't know that. But regardless of that, the funny thing was that the two people who wanted to be with each other but who were afraid of talking about it...Weren't they the ones with the more prolific dating histories? They wanted to see, maybe, if there was a spark similar somewhere else, or if they were mistaking love for other feelings. Or maybe they were trying to forget each other. We don't know for sure, but it's just odd how similar they are also at the end of the day.
Also, food for thought. DS admitted to being in love with TK fairly early into their relationship, wouldn't you agree? I don't want to say it was always there, but she had to have been confident in her feelings. They'd been bubbling for so long, that she couldn't keep it in any longer. What a cutie.
She's also gets a cookie from me.

It really is. You don't degrade yourself by doing nice things for the people you love. It's not absurd. If I think my boyfriend deserves cinnamon rolls in the morning, you'd best believe I will slave all evening to make that dough to set it aside to rest and wake up early in the morning to work it again, let it rise, make the filling and icing, bake it, and then bring it to him. But that doesn't mean that I'm his wife, or I'm considered inferior to him. It's the simple fact that I love him, and that I love doing nice things for him.
TK always sees through her uncertainty and it's wonderful to see. And he indulges her every single whim. He dotes on her as much as she dotes on him, with allowing her to lasso him into dancing with her, with gamely giving her his wallet, with refusing to listen to her weak protests that she doesn't need anything from her Secret Santa. He knew her better, possibly because they spent the most amount of time alone, without the rest of the gang. And at the end of the day, that's what she wanted. She wanted someone who could see through her lies, someone who knew how to reach in and get her to open up about what sh wanted.
How is that a crime? How is she wishy-washy? The writer, the director, TK and DS's characters are slowly being massacred by this and it's in my opinion, over the top. No one deserves anyone. That's it. What you mentioned about karma is right. It'll come back to bite you. Once the timer goes off, the game is over. You cannot win a game if you forfeit. That's a simple fact of life.
@lyn09 hahaha well, honestly can you blame TK? He's at the receiving end of all of these bits and pieces, the poor lovesick fool.

Phew! Haven't posted in over a year on the soompi forums, but this collective and massive mental breakdown over Reply 1988 has had me in absolute stitches and I couldn't help but join in the fun.
Personal experiences aside, I'm not going to talk about what a girl would want or project my feelings onto the drama. Instead, I'm going to talk about the funny little quirks about Deoksun, and yes, this is another discussion dissecting the wonderful first China trip in episode 9.
Episode 9
The dynamics between Taek and Deoksun change in here. That much is absolute truth. But here's the cute little dig the scriptwriter made, and honestly, it made me chuckle quite a bit afterwards when I noticed it.
The umbrella, the waiting up for Deoksun at night, all of those swoon-worthy moves Junghwan did for the girl he clearly liked, but never spoke out loud about.
I bring to you, Episode 9 Deoksun.
Episode 9 Deoksun, who was carefree, careless, a bit of a scatterbrain, obsessed with food and with the idea of traveling. Yet, the entire trip was spent taking care of Taek, looking after his needs. Her gestures towards him are cast aside, as being simple motherly but by the end of the drama, you see that they're absolutely not.
She picks out his clothes. She coordinates them. She puts thought into what he's wearing. She decides to dress him the way she also finds most appealing. She picks and chooses what she likes and packs them.
She reaches the room, and realizes that it's too cold. She has two heated blankets, but what does she do? She forgoes her own comfort and ensures that he is well rested. This may be cute, this may be motherly, but honestly? I thought it was just plain swoon-worthy.
Taek is known not to eat well before his matches, and it matches his general constitution. So she waits outside, for hours just to ensure that he has food that he can digest well enough, so that his belly is as warm as his snug bed when he decides to rest for however few hours he can.
Yes, it has been seen and cast aside as motherly, as Taek being incapable of looking after himself, as him just being his normal,idiot self and Deoksun showing her caring side.
But that little smile that Taek has, when he puts those puzzle pieces together to realize what exactly Deoksun had been doing the entire trip towards him?
Baby Taek was swooning. What a coochie pie
How could he not? Deoksun, whether she knew it or not, whether she meant it or not, had always done exactly every single trope that a person finds romantic when on the receiving end from a romantic partner, to Taek. Her actions towards him are not motherly, they are adorable, and cute and most importantly, just as heart fluttering as anything else.
Kudos to you scriptwriter. I loved the show, the bits I watched. I have to admit, I'll need to do a rewatch as the episodes were a bit long, so I would get antsy and fast forward through bits here and there.
Anyways, hello to everyone here! I really loved watching this thread unfold
Insights are brilliant, but I've loved how peaceful it's been more than anything. It's a little slice of paradise when everyone has kind words for one another, or at least, the patience to solve differences of opinions.
Do I claim sexism as a reason as to why her actions are disregarded as motherly? Honestly, a bit. Look, if a guy went through the trouble of packing all of my stuff, making sure my bed was warm, making sure I was eating when he knew I wasn't well during a trip, I would probably swoon over him. I don't believe that I would consider the actions as fatherly.
