Hyekyo Song Wants to Write a Fan Mail to Takeshi Kaneshiro

(Beijing November 27) Director John Woo and his major cast members, including Ziyi Zhang, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Xiaoming Huang, Hyekyo Song and Dawei Tong attended the premiere of their movie “The Crossing”. The press conference were crowded with reporters because it had been rumored that Ziyi would walk on the red carpet together with Feng Wang and that Feng might propose to her then.
Facing everybody’s concern, Ziyi said that she had wanted to marry and have a family when she graduated from the college at twenty-one. As lovers in the film, Xiaoming and Hyekyo performed a waltz on stage at the premiere, making their fans scream aloud and excited. Hyekyo revealed that she was a fan of Takeshi and she’d write a fan mail to him if she had a chance.
When asked to comment on Li Gong’s earlier criticizing the Golden Horse Awards, John thought the result was fair and objective and the decision by many judges. He supported the Golden Horse Awards and recognized the efforts it made for Chinese-speaking movies.

The film follows three couples fleeing China in the throes of revolution; the three pairs board the ill-fated Taiping ferry, which capsized on January 27th, 1949 in the Baijie Strait.

Woo says he believes audiences will enjoy the movie no matter what culture they are from:

"In the past, people thought that only action films or martial arts were understood universally, but in reality I don't think that is correct. If we can appreciate western types of love stories, I am sure they can also appreciate and understand our Oriental type of love stories."

The film's leading actress, Zhang Ziyi, also shared her hopes that "The Crossing" will be well-received both at home and abroad, emphasizing the hard work both cast and crew put into the epic.

Part one of "The Crossing" sails into Chinese theaters next Tuesday.

Hye-kyo Song Improves Her Mandarin in “The Crossing”

(Shanghai November 25) Director John Woo and the two major cast members Takeshi Kaneshiro and Hye-kyo Song appeared at the press conference for their movie “The Crossing” today. Hye-kyo played a rich girl who fell in love with Xiaoming Huang but was separated by the war.

She had worked hard to learn Chinese and spoke Chinese in the entire movie. Today at the press conference she tried to speak in Chinese and amazed everyone. John praised her for her efforts and said, “Hye-hyo has a touching innocence.”

Takeshi admitted that he accepted the job on the invitation from John. They had previously cooperated in the film “Red Cliff” and had developed a strong understanding between each other. In “The Crossing” he and Masami Nagasawa played a couple of different nationalities and tested by the war and the separation of time and distance. John revealed, “Takeshi likes to play romantic scenes.”

  6. class="postheadline"Song Hye Kyo Wants Both Takeshi Kaneshiro and Huang Xiaoming

The Crossing <太平輪>, John Woo’s (吳 宇森) epic film about the sinking of the 1949 Chinese steamer Taiping, will greet audiences next week. Filmed in two parts back-to-back, the first part of the 3D film opens December 2 in mainland China, while the second part is slated for a release in May 2015.

Starring Takeshi Kaneshiro (金城武), Zhang Ziyi (章子怡), Song Hye Kyo (宋慧喬), Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明),Masami Nagasawa (長澤雅美), and Tong Dawei (佟大為), The Crossing takes place during the Chinese Civil War of 1949. Three couples board the Chinese steamer Taiping to flee from China to the island of Taiwan, but the ship meets a tragic end.

John Woo, Takeshi Kaneshiro, and Song Hye Kyo promoted the film at a press conference held in Shanghai yesterday. It has been three years since Takeshi Kaneshiro’s last onscreen appearance in 2011 martial arts film Dragon <武俠>.

Despite being one of the most popular actors in the industry, Takeshi is surprisingly low-profile and mysterious in his private life. Takeshi explained, “When I’m not making a movie, I am resting quietly, playing games, or reading books. I don’t have a filming quota. Maybe that’s the reason why no one sees me as often, but as long as there is an opportunity, I will hold onto it well.”

Korean actress Song Hye Kyo worked hard to learn how to speak Mandarin so she can speak her own lines for the film. Song Hye Kyo and Takeshi Kaneshiro do not play a couple in The Crossing, but the 33-year-old actress was asked to choose between Takeshi Kaneshiro and Huang Xiaoming. Slightly overwhelmed by the question, Song Hye Kyo  replied, “Huang Xiaoming and Takeshi Kaneshiro are both very refined and considerate. If it’s possible, I want to have both of them.”

In the film, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Japanese actress Masami Nagasawa portray a couple with a tragic but beautiful ending. John Woo joked that Takeshiro “loves” to film romantic scenes. Despite being an expert, Takeshiro admitted that he felt really embarrassed when he had to kiss Masami. “Because both of us are close, it already felt odd having to play a couple. When we filmed the kissing scene, it was really embarrassing. Thank goodness filming went smoothly.”
