People are commenting what Master Lin (Ou Yan Xing) spoke that he is more suited for Shi Yiniang if it was not because of fate, I will have agreed if Shi Yiniang had successfully ran away to Yuhang with her mother tagging Master Lin, they may have a high chance that romance may have develop between them as they are of a similar nature and background. He is nearer in age than Xu Ling Yi without the baggage of children and concubines.
If Master Lin had Shi Yiniang by his side, he will have a fulfilled life and will definitely ignore his family in the Capital as he is able to sustain his own living without his family.
Unfortunately, they are not fated to be together and it looks like Jing Yuan has to admit his defeat because he has lost two sons. One is dead and the other in prison.
It will be lovely if the two children running towards Shi Yiniang are hers as it is said she has a boy and a girl.

He does not exist in the novel so his fate will be at the hands on this drama's writer.

Ou Li Xing has a spy in the Xu Mansion. Xu Ling Yi has a spy in where Ou Li Xing works. That is why Shi Yiniang said she had informed Xu Ling Yi that she had changed the theme of the embroidery work. He was so busy that he skipped seeing that document. So he assumed that she was submitting the first work. Furthermore, he even came for the piece early than schedule.
The Emperor even saw through his misused of power which is why he got the 20 lashes.

It is now clear that Shi Yiniang as the Xu Ling Yi's current principal wife without any effort of hers and all through the other faults managed to cast off all her husband's concubines.
I had to laugh at Xu Ling Yi's expression and utter speechless at every one of his concubines blamed him for their own situation. So much so he had vow against having anymore concubines. I think he is tired of the "stud" duty his mother wants him to do. He had made every of his concubine's life a misery.
I was a little surprised that they reserved the burning of the embroidery work for Madame Wen. I guess it is so written to get her out of the Xu Mansion. She may return later when Yu Ge returns from his studies.
A nice gesture of Xu Ling Yi stopping Shi Yiniang tearing the Mutual Separation Agreement as a reminder that his wife can leave him at any time so he will have to take note about treating his wife well. Taking from a case in The Story of Minglan, in a Mutual Separation Agreement where the marriage is nulled and void, the ex-wife is able to walk away with a compensation usually in a form of properties.

It is nice to see that the Luo sisters' relationship has improved. Luo Er Niang despite her nastiness spoke on behalf of Shi Yiniang in front Old Madame Xu.

Scheme, scheme and more scheme. Looks like Ou Li Xing was working on both ends. He got some dirt on the Wen family business and therefore Madame Wen's sister in law forced Madame Wen to burn the embroidery work. She used the Wen family support for Yu Ge as leverage.
Old Madame Xu actually fed birth control potion to both Madame Qin and Wen before the principal wife entered the household. However, Madame Qin got the shorter stick of it as her health could not take the harshness of the potion. Madame Wen managed to conceive and deliver safely. Although Old Madame Xu said she did it with them in mind that there should not be any children before the principal wife comes in but she did not foresee the damage it did on Madame Qin. In the end, Madame Qin could understand but she will not forgive them.
Yuan Niang is an exact copy of Madame Luo. She forced Madame Dong to be Xu Ling Yi's concubine to ensure Xu Ling Yi's attention will not waiver to the other concubines. The same tactic used on Hupo. Like Madame Qiao, Xu Ling Yi never touched Madame Dong because it was Yuan Niang who insisted on making Madame Dong a concubine. No wonder Xu Ling Yi and Yuan Niang's marriage just deteriorated if she had that kind of mindset. By the way, it is Yuan Niang who set up the scene for Madame Dong to seduce Xu Ling Yi when he was drunk but Xu Ling Yi said although he was drunk but he was conscious and he did not compromise Madame Dong. So cute, he wanted Shi Yiniang to hear that. Remember his own drunken episode with Shi Yiniang, all he wanted was hot tea.
I will have to agree that Hupo should leave the Xu Mansion because she was compromised twice now so even Shi Yiniang cannot defend her anymore. I do see a small silver lining for her and Master Lin since he helped him out compromising her modesty somewhat.
Looks like it will be bringing down the Old Fox now since he will be so bitter after Ou Li Xing's death. He went straight to destroy someone who is dearest to Xu Ling Yi. Hopefully, Xu Ling Yi can persuade the pirate, Wang Jiu Bao to whistle blow on Jing Yuan Hao.
Good news, General Hu confessed his love and his intention to make Dongqing his wife. So very cute.
Actually, I love what Shi Yiniang had said that before she is Yong Ping Hao Fu Ren, she is Luo Shi Yiniang first and she should be loyal to herself and her own aspirations. And to Madame Qin, she told her although they cannot change their own fate but they can choose a path to make the best out of it. Madame Qin just choose the wrong path to follow.
I must say that Old Madame Xu must be so wrong in how she view the people around her. She got it wrong on two counts now. Clip Episode 44, I am glad she made a big fuss to get some time grace (1 month) before Shi Yiniang's death sentence.

Looks like a Xu Ling Yi, Shi Yiniang and Master Lin is in a big production play to weed out the mole in Xu Mansion. The play is titled "The Runaway Wife". I think it has a casting call of everyone in Xu Mansion. Even a plot with making Dongqing to become Xu Ling Yi's concubine.
Qu Li Xing's mission for Madame Qin was to destroy Xu Ling Yi and Shi Yiniang's marriage. He even betray his own brother as the other man.
It is Old Madame Xu who made Madame Qin take a birth control potion before Xu Ling Yi married a principal wife. However, that potion took a toll on her health which caused her to miscarriage and henceforth can never have children again. So that is where her hatred for Xu family started.

I think Old Madame Xu can tolerate and forgive mistakes but not crimes. Old Madame Xu look highly upon the future generations of the Xu family hence she will never allowed any harm come to those children. Madame Qiao tampered with Yuan Niang's medication that cause her to miscarriage hence killing a Xu child. She brought in a dog to endanger the health of Zhun Ge is already a double whammy. It is a crime for a concubine to depose of the principal wife in order to gain the seat for yourself. Remember, Old Madame Xu told Madame Qiao she should not think of anything above her own station especially to a woman who think highly of hierarchy.
As for Madame Qiao pleading leniency for Qiao Lian Fang, Old Madame Xu told her that the alternative of Xu Ling Yi's punishment was to sent her to prison.
I believe Old Madame Xu is willing to make subtle changes if the reason behind it is justified.

I believe that when Xu Ling Yi took over as the head of the Xu family, he put onto himself some rigid discipline or principles to ensure the continuing survival of his family. He is disappointed that no one did the same. Like Shi Yiniang explained to him hence untying the knot that no one can be like him but he will need to understand the other wants and needs too.
I think the light bulb that lit on for Xu Ling Yi with regards to Shi Yiniang that she was the first one who understood the dilemma he is going through. He thinks too much but is unable to do anything about it. The first member of his family to see that.
The other women including Yuan Niang all wanted something out of him. As for Yuan Niang, he protected her because she is his wife but he too is disappointed with her behaviour of expanding her influence to gain power and money for the Luo family. Shi Yiniang did not ask for the same and her selfless actions pleased Xu Ling Yi that he finally has a mate that share a common principle with him. Remember when Madame Qiao gave a ridiculous solution of chasing the refugees away so they will not soil Xu Ling Yi's career while as Shi Yiniang gave such a brilliant solution to settle the refugees womenfolk with skill and work.
You know Yuan Niang was worried that Xu Ling Yi will not put a stand on the difference between his sons. He will view them all the same. True to the fact, Xu Ling Yi viewed all his children as they are his and therefore he is responsible. Importantly, I think Xu Ling Yi will picked his heir via merit. Yuan Niang unlike Shi Yiniang probably never discuss with him on the children's future as he does now with Shi Yiniang. She is Madame Luo's daughter and the scheming must be in her education syallabus as well. But then again when the women had their kids, Xu Ling Yi was not around. It is only Shi Yiniang who now enjoy having a husband that is always around.

I did not notice an unusual gait except the time he was nursing that stab wound. However, princess-carrying your wife several times now will bring some toil to his back, I am sure for a man of somewhat older.
I cannot wait for Ou Li Xing to fall flat on his face once again because of Xu Ling Yi's young wife. She best him yet again.

Just picked up after watching the subbed episodes that Xu Ling Yi intend to use the mole in the Xu Mansion to destroy the Ou family. Like Madame Qiao's case, it is the feeding of wrong information for them to act. I suppose in the end it will be Madame Qin's downfall. She either drink poison, or get poisoned or attacked by Ou family to cover their tracks.
I think the part where Shi Yiniang is in prison is not for failing to come up with the embroidery work. It is a bigger plot that threaten the whole Xu family that Shi Yiniang will take up the blame for to ensure the whole Xu family will be spared.
I like the fact Shi Yiniang is taking at interest in learning all of Xu Ling Yi's interest. Learning archery, learning to play the harp, etc. She reads him well and always am able to appease his bad mood. So cute of her fanning the tea aroma towards to make him drink it. Totally hook, line and sinker.
Quite a difference here that normally principal wives are wary of concubines taking up their husbands attention, here we have a husband's attention totally taken up by his young wife. Everything with him is "Yes, dear". Even Mummy Dearest sees that too.

Xu Ling Yi is indeed a good Luo family son in law. He married two of the family's daughters after all. So he was willing to handle Madame Luo's funeral as he will be able to garner more visitors if he took the lead. He also helped Wu Niang lease out her land to grow melon and she can earned some profits from it.
I also agreed that we see more "touchy, touchy" when he is with Shi Yiniang. He seems to want to touch her every seconds he can. He is serious in helping her beget children. He wants to work on getting 5 kids.
Shi Yiniang already know that Au Li Xing is the person in charge of the Royal Commission of Embroidery work so they should be prepared for any foul play. Wang Yu's case he already implicated his own father in law and was fined getting no pay for a year.

I believe the family dynamics in the Xu family has improved somewhat then those days when Yuan Niang was alive. Xu Ling Yi is now stationed more in the Capital therefore he is able to interact more with his children. Shi Yiniang had mentioned that Zhun Ge grew up with nannies and maids while Yu Ge has an overprotective mother. Both boys are over pampered but Yu Ge is older and has great intelligence for a child.
Shi Yiniang offered a more refreshing opinion on household matters. The other mothers were all about grabbing as much as they could for their sons. Shi Yiniang is the principal wife and therefore has the final say on the boys' future. Having lived under duress in the Luo family, I am sure she will not want the boys to go through the childhood she went through herself.
So like Er Niang who just selected facts to suit her argument. Shi Yiniang was running away from the arranged married with Wang Yu not Xu Ling Yi. Glad Hupo pointed out to Er Niang that she will not have survive in the Xu household if she was the one married into the family with her kind of attitude.
So cute at Xu Ling Yi's little jealousy at his love rival. He went to practice his calligraphy hoping it will be better than the one Lin Shi Xian wrote. By the way, Lin Shi Xian is so tall and he over towered his father and older brother.
I am glad that the Young Madame Au got her just deserves and was shamed in public.

Shi Yiniang's Xian Ling Pavilion participate in a royal commission in embroidery work. Zhun Ge went missing is an opportunity for the mole to burn the embroidery work. Au Li Xing has been trying to implicate Xu family in all sort of ways. However, looking at at Episode 38, all seemed fine, they probably had the "fake" embroidery burned instead of the actual work. Xu Ling Yi and Shi Yiniang already know there is a Au mole among them so they will be extra careful.
I wander why are they working on a plot which look like Hupo is suspecting that Dongqing is having a "fling" with Xu Ling Yi. Hupo is very intelligent but Dongqing is extremely loyal. Anyway, her romance line with Deputy General Hu is blooming.
I knew when those the two maids were arguing that Xu Ling Kuan got set up. I am amazed that Shi Yiniang got a good CCTV placed around the Xu Mansion so she knows the going-on in the place. She had those two maids under surveillance so they managed to rescue the concubine when her ex colleague tried to kill her. Happy for the Xu's 5th couple. Congratulations on the birth of their son.
Must be quite a sad life for concubine out of favour. You only get your husband to visit you on your birthday. I am glad if at the end, Xu Ling Yi is just down to only Shi Yiniang by his side. Shi Yiniang had shown that she does not show any favouritism in her dealing with the children.
It was Yu Ge who showed great enthusiasm in going to a Scholar Academy and like Zhun Ge, Xu Ling Yi gave him the chance to make a choice. That Academy received a lot of legitimate children of noble family and Xu Ling Yi gave Yu Ge the same opportunity to study there. Madame Wen's thinking is very narrow.

There was a open discussion whether Er Niang and Shi Yiniang's fate have been different if Er Niang was the one married Xu Ling Yi instead. Shi Yiniang will marry Wang Yu.
Er Niang will probably be in the same boat and no different than current Xu Ling Yi's concubines or even Yuan Niang. By then, she will be ousted by Madame Qiao as she does not have the support of Xu Ling Yi or Old Madame Xu either. Er Niang tend to scheme without much intelligence put in. Her mother was Madame Luo's maid while Shi Yiniang's mother is from a fallen scholar family. Kindly note that the education of a child differ between the two women.
It was originally intended that it was Er Niang to marry into the Wang family. Because of Er Niang's scheme it was change from Er Niang to Shi Yiniang because Er Niang wants to marry into the Xu family. Like Shi Yiniang had said, if she did not meddle, she will have runaway with her mother and Er Niang would have enter the Xu household. You can see from how she can be so easily persuaded by Madame Au with a few trinkets, she is such an easy pawn.
As for Wang Yu, no woman should be "sentence" to be his wife. He is best be dead in my books. Will Shi Yiniang made a difference with him? I think Shi Yiniang have better ambition with her life than trying to educate a man-child who hit people.

I am glad that we had that many episodes last week so we can clear the misunderstanding and look forward for Shi Yiniang to woo her husband for once. She is a determined lady and Xu Ling Yi is being a man-child and is throwing a small tantrum.
Just one case of Shi Yiniang is in distress, Xu Ling Yi's protective juices will all come out and he will forgive her. This time, Shi Yiniang is no longer doubtful about her own feelings. I am sure there will be some passionate scenes as I know these two actors are able to deliver a passionate scene well.
I was a little surprised that they had Madame Qiao taking the wrap for poisoning Yuan Niang as there were so many indication or guesses that it was Madame Qin. Guesses also pointing to that Madame Qin might be Hupo's sister. I hope the next 6 episodes is all going to be so sweet.

I think there is a lot of talk in other forum about the lack of intimacy on Shi Yiniang's part. First and foremost she married into the Xu's family because of a family order. She was to be the caretaker of her sister's child. It was not in her plans to be Xu Ling Yi's wife in the real sense hence she avoid all intimacy. Xu Ling Yi generally respected after all he gave her that speech about living in respective accordance. Her only goal was that Xu family will offer her some clues to her mother's murder. He is a gentleman and put himself in a strict ,mode of conduct so forcing his wife to do a duty of a wife is not his cup of tea. Remember his lecture to his brother for having sexual relations with Si Jie's mother that resulted in her pregnancy.
It is because of her sincerity that attracted Xu Ling Yi to her. She is not selfish and deemed it that if Madame Qiao did a good job at managing the household, who is she to disrupt something that was going well. She never tussle with anything with her sisters at home, so she is not going to start at the Xu family either. Shi Yiniang's mother is from a scholar family fallen into hard times hence where she got her intelligence and being away from the main family also meant she avoided getting involved in the politics of the Luo inner court.
I suppose the other ladies expected something from Xu Ling Yi which he found it burdensome while Shi Yiniang never asked him anything. She did not even complain at the nubbin amount of allowances given out to her. Finally, even coming directly to her with Xu Ling Yi's approval, she still refused. Husband has to come and explain why she so deserved it. Xu Ling Yi admires such qualities that she is quick-thinking and selfless. He also find that she is a better educator for Zhun Ge than his own mother or Yuan Niang. She is getting Zhun Ge to make his own choices and decision.
Xu Ling Yi has done his part in the courtship and it is now Shi Yiniang's turn to do the same as she now realized how well Xu Ling Yi had protected her. The main part is she finally shared the theory of her mother's death with him and the fact now there is someone out to kill her as well.
Well, with a little persuasion Xu Ling Yi will come through as there is clip of their close physical touch of kisses, hugs in and out of bed, massaging her shoulders, teaching her to play the harp, etc.

In the end, Madame Qiao is such a pitiful character. Her childhood fantasy that lead to an obsession is a result of her own mother's coaching that she can get anything she wanted through scheming.
Xu Ling Yi was correct that nobility does not come with one's birthright but of one's character. Madame Qiao gave such a speech that she is the only one who "suitable" to be his wife. That is her grand illusion. It is really glass shattering when she asked whether Xu Ling Yi ever had any feelings for her and Xu Ling Yi nearly stopped himself from shaking his head as an answer.
By the way, someone pointed out the numbers in their name. Shi Yiniang is Miss Eleven and Ling Yi sound like Zero One in Chinese.
Madame Qiao whined that it was Yuan Niang who plotted against her and made her a concubine. Xu Ling Yi told her that if she did not destroy Yuan Niang's health, the latter will not happen. Even her defense for her own action is so lame. Xu Ling Yi is already facing political schemes that is going for his family and he does not need more headaches in his own inner court at home too. Remember he looked with such distaste when the concubine squabble among themselves when they were mourning for Yuan Niang.
I am surprised that Madame Luo is receiving some retribution too. She had schemed all her life and it has bounced back onto her own precious daughter who died at hand of another woman's scheme. Er Niang's mother is taking such a pleasure rubbing salt into her wounds. I have to agree that marrying Er Niang to Wang Yu is indeed a selfish decision.
I am looking forward to seeing Shi Yiniang wooing our Hao Ye. Xu Ling Yi is like a little child with his wife. After all, Shi Yiniang had proved she is really good with kids. Xu Ling Yi will definitely have his defense all up now he knows that someone is out to kill his wife.

I am glad Hupo came cleaned in on Madame Luo's blackmail on her with Shi Yiniang. She made no effort in her "seduction" on Xu Ling Yi and was aiming to be kicked from the Xu Mansion instead. You will noticed that Xu Ling Yi have Zhao Ying serving him instead of having any female maids around him. Noticed how happy he looked when he heard from Shi Yiniang that she had made the soup for him.
So happy, Old Madame Xu finally see Madame Qiao's character for real. Indeed, Madame Qiao has disappointed her on several occasion now and to insult the principal wife was the last straw. Ancient China is very clear on Di and Su hierarchy. It is her own fault that she went straight in without a second thought.Old Madame Xu warned Madame Qiao not to harbour anything that is beyond her current status.
I think it is really up to Er Niang to make the best out of her situation. She had so many schemes in her head, I am sure she can come up with something to improve her situation. The Luo daughters seem to be greater thinkers (schemers) so I am sure Er Niang is no less if she put her mind to it.
So many commentaries assume that Xu Ling Yi faked being drunk but he was really drunk. His wife found him cute at such a state too. Yes, he needs his wife to soothe his nightmares too.

I must say slip shot editing. One scene he is with a mustache, the next scene he lost it.
I believe they tidy all the loose ends quite nicely. Xu Ling Yi gave Madame Wen a choice. If she wants to remain with the Xu family, they will provide for her upkeep. If she wish to leave then then he will provide sufficient funds for her livelihood. If she wish to venture into business, he will provide her the capital. Xu Ling Yi told her to take her time to think about it. Madame Wen did not make a decision but wished to stay near her son during his education years. I believe Xu Ling Yi made it clear that he had no feelings for her and did not wish to ruin her life like Madame Qin and Madame Dong.
Shi Yiniang's Xian Ling Ke was named No.1 Embroidery house. At least, Master Jian is alive.
Nice speech by Master Lin that he thought he lost to Xu Ling Yi due to fate But really it because Xu Ling Yi was willing to risk his life and career for his wife while he hesitated upon learning the truth. Hupo went with him to exile. I like to believe that he will find peace with her eventually. The Ou line's descendant can never hold a government post. Good thing Master Lin knows how to trade.
The older boys are in their senior years in the Academy.
Looks like the young Miss Xu is really the apple of Daddy's eye.
Shi Yiniang got a First Class Honorary title from the Emperor for teaching embroidery skills to female refugees.
General Hu and Dongqing got married and he is stationed in Fujian. Wuniang's husband got posted to Yunnan. Her son also goes to the same Academy with his Xu cousins.
