  1. i've been on my lurking mode and only resurface because of the moony cf.
Thanks for all the photos and videos :\">
CJW being the director of this cf and also CJH's hoobae is quite a pleasant surprise
I've never thought those two know each other.

@GHSforever: I watched Absolute Boyfriend for Jiro. Part of it was sweet and cute, the others were a little too cheesy and awkward for me. Especially the scene where Night got damaged and started speaking in a heavily accented Korean while he was supposed to be flawless with languages *epic fail* (dear lord how GHS didn't crack during that scene was amazing). But it's still one of the dramas I enjoyed.

  2. @anannanann: I've read about that event in Heirs thread. Good luck for whoever wins a date with him. I wonder how it would go. Probably involves a lot of giggling and blushing from the lady. lol

@Mishiellie: yes I'd watch it solely for CJH because I don't care for the rest. But who know, maybe there will be some kind of pleasant surprise about it. I have not yet hated a role CJH played, hopefully, this will be the same.

@annasophiabby: yup, distortion is a media thing. It's one of the source that perpetuates poor treatment and disrespectful behaviors towards women.

  3. I'm creying after reading the supposedly leaked script of "Heirs"

Usually I don't spread spoilers or leaked stuff, but eh I don't think this is the real deal. Even if it is, it'd still need a lot of polish. While I had a kick out of this, my wariness for the show has also been doubled. Story-wise, it might either be a blast or a total disaster. LMH's Kim Tan sounds like a crossover between BOF's Gu Jun Pyo and Yoon Ji Ho while PSH's role is gonna be your typical plucky girl-next-door type.

@El6ni12 . according to the leaked script, the relationship between the brothers is a bit strained, but there is probably no real malice or animosity involved.

@annasophiabby Sword bores me to tears. I like that it's different and somewhat innovative compared to other saeguk dramas. But to watch it, you'll have to be extremely patient, or in some kind of pensive mood, or head over heels for Kim Ok Bin and Umhforce.

The portrayal of romance in Asian dramas have always been made problematic by the writers' shrewd notion of what constitute a healthy relationship and good boyfriend materials. I can't speak for all the Asian cultures and every other Asian women, but I don't think Asian women are that submissive and docile in real life. I, for one, don't put up with any man's crap, handsome or not.

  4. @Mishiellie: I accidentally watched Battle Royale 2 first. I liked it better than the first, which had too much gore and celebration of pointless death for my liking. IMO, neither installment really did the manga justice.

@annasophiabby haha Kim Nam Gil's mustache turned me off too. No, actually, I don't like the way his entire face looks. I know it sounds like a petty reason to skip out on a potentially good drama, but ehh can't help it. I think it has been like that for me since I saw him from Bad Guy. I'm watching GOF simply for Kim Bum since I like his character. The prince though... urg. I guess I'm tired of watching prideful men yelling at their love interest, and the women just staring wide-eyed or tearfully at them. I really hope Jung Yi still has guts like back then. It was delightful to see her taking the prince down a few notches.

    ----------

If Woo Bin is the second lead of "Heirs", I'm afraid CJH might be one of those background characters who only show up in a handful of scenes here and there each episode. Oh well but I think this drama will still bring him good press and more public exposure. Can't wait until he is the main character in a cable show.

  5. I've read the character chart of "Heirs" in Koala's playground this morning. Well, I hope there is more to him in the drama because it sounds rather boring in the chart.  Sounds like he's gonna be one of the few adult, and probably decent, characters in the show.

On the other hand, I'm surprised LMH accepted this role at all since it's like reprising Gu Jun Pyo from BOF, a role I recalled him trying hard to get out of. I'm hoping that there is some pleasant surprise in store for us about his character. I don't think I can stand seeing him as another egotistical boorish billionaire young master. It's too many steps down from his recent attempts.

@Mishiellie: I haven't watched 'Stand up' yet since boys and their sex-ed journey isn't really my cuppa coffee lol. But I heard it was among the good jdramas of its days. I might give it a try some time in the future. I read the storyline of Switch, Japan sure loves twisted stories involving youth and survival games (Battle Royale, Baby Clones, etc…)

  6. @Mishiellie: oh I'm flattered to hear such responses <3
The more I listen to Endless Love, the more I think it fits their story too. The writer could have just let the kids live and reincarnated the parents D:

As for Hiroki, I meant to say "his Cheshire smile", not cat lol. But he's not so different from a cat at all xD. Oh I loved him so much in Imma, that's my favorite out of his characters. K from Bloody Monday is the second, then comes the one in Orange Days. I haven't watched Switch because I can't find it anywhere online *sob* But from the recap I read, he got killed in the end, right? I tried to watch Akane to Megachan but urrg it's such a boring show OTL. I've just watched Ace Attorney lately, while it was fun, his character wasn't really refreshing.

  7. CJH's interviews sounds so earnest that it could make him come off as either sappy or pretentious. But I'm really glad that success found him when he most needed it. I hope this will be a milestone for his career.

    --------------

@anannanann: for me, it depends on the combination of their personal traits, I might tolerate something I hate if it goes well with other characteristics. I like lawyer Cha, but I also think his naivety doesn't fit with the rest of his person. If I have to be honest, the characters in IHYV lack appeal on their own and entirely hinge on the performance of the casts.

@Mishiellie: i know lol I kept seeing you liking posts I didn't expect you to. I love Narimiya's Cheshire smile and I think he's a good actor, unfortunately, he's often been typecasted into either delinquent or playboy.

For CJH's sake, I hope "Heirs" won't turn into another typical idol drama :\

And I'm glad people on Baidu liked my vids. Did they say anything in particular? ^^

  8. @anannanann: lol best comment ever. It should has been posted in the drama thread.

LMH and me are in the same age, anyway, I'm not drawn to either of them. LMH sorta charmed me a little bit in Boys over Flowers and Personal Preference, but I dropped both show after a while. I checked out City Hunter out of curiosity, and was not compelled to follow it. I enjoyed the storyline of White Christmas, and liked the casts as a whole. I think KWB has potential though. I might like him, given the right character.

It's hard to say I like WR or CJH better because, for me, they give off almost the same vibe. But I'd say I love WR the best out of all the characters he has played (duh)

@yuuqiikeke: haha Raymond is my bias in Hongkong too. Actually I think he's the only one. I really liked Nicholas Tse back then. Now I just can't get into anything he did :\

@El6ni12 .  You're welcome. She has a sense of humor too, and that just makes her recap all the more fun to read. Though she got lazy during a few episodes in between and just summarized her opinions on them lol. Worry not, she recapped all the important episodes.

  9. *swooooonnn*

You know he still has a hold on you if you still giggle at his pictures xD

Thank you everyone for all the song recommendation. I'm slowly checking them out and trying to think of something refreshing for the MV. I'm afraid any more repetition of the same scenes just gonna bore people out.

@yuuqiikeke: I watched that movie for Raymond lol. I like part of it, though it wasn't among my favorite Chinese fantasy movies. I love Raymond's voice, but only dig a handful of his songs. Let's just say his genre of music isn't my cup of tea :\ (The ost you rec is lovely though)

    El6ni12 . said:
Is there a good website or blog that describes the entire storyline of the drama?

  10. I can't make myself love the music and the pacing either. Whenever they played that what-is-its-name track, honest to god, I went into hysterics alternatively thinking of western cowboys with galloping horses or sin city with lurking shadows. The tension is also dragged out a little too long to my liking. I loved the movie "The Duelists" which had the same aesthetic quality and ambiance, but I don't think I want to sit through a drama with 10+ episodes done in the same style.

On the storyline, I like the crown prince character, I was worried that he would die in the last episode. Good thing it didn't happen. Yet.

  11. Can someone suggest me some good ballads or melancholic songs? I'd like to make a few more fanvid but I don't have any apt song for WR and SW. I don't actively seek out songs anymore, just keep listening to the stuff on my iTunes and pick up on anything I run across (mostly drama OSTs)

  12. @larus: I don't think you're overthinking at all. In fact, you brought up quite a good point. Agreeably, for someone who is intensively(?) involved in politics, one would expect Moo-Young to be more careful of her behaviors in public. Regardless of how brave and progressive her point of view is, romantic entanglement with a peasant isn't a thing a princess would do without a fleeting of consideration or conflict. On the other hand, maybe they did show it in by the pauses between scenes; her constant smile is rather difficult for me to determine if she's ever felt hesitant though. Gotta re-watch that scene. I think, for a show that features multiple prolonged slow-mo scenes and aims to capture the stillness of a moment, the viewers should feel welcomed to dissect every minute of it. Otherwise, it would just be pretentious for the sake of artistic cinematography. Having said so, I don't think there is a correct way to watch a show. You just watch it the way you want.

To answer your question, their upside-down gazing is undoubtedly a pop-culture reference to the kiss scene from the blockbuster movie Spiderman. (So I would have to say that scene wasn't an original idea, but it has indeed never been done in kdrama)

    spiderman_kiss2.gif

It's so popular it inspired quite a few similar scenes from other movies and shows. Here is another upside down kiss from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon:

    Crouching-Tiger-Hidden-Dragon-49700f943b

If my memory doesn't betray me, I think the girl was flying upside down from the other direction and the guy was riding a horse. Both were at full speed. No, I kid you not. Imagine the impact. How the heck they managed to kiss without breaking their teeth, I have no idea. Realistically, that had to be one of the most painful ways to kiss :\

On a serious note, I agree with others that since their first encounter was kinda superficial, hopefully, the development of their romance would offer more substance.

  13. @Mishiellie: I have intermediate coding knowledge so I can do the tweaking. But tbh, I'm just not into the cutesy or chic design that many fansites tend to have. When it comes to website, I prefer simple grid with readable typeface, kinda like my drama tumblr that you've seen. Unfortunately, I can't read either Chinese or Korean and this thread is my only resource on CJH so far :\.

  14. I think the princess's character defies the norms of that time, her straightforwardness is what makes her different and stand out. In the old days, noble women were taught to be lady-like, soft-spoken and timid. They weren't supposed to outwardly do the chasing, they were to seduce men with their feminine qualities (with a variety of discreetness). But I guess her unabashing eagerness comes off as desperation for some.

On the other hand, I agree that their attraction has escalated too quickly for superficial or no reason at all. Normally, I don't mind characters developing random or unexplainable crushes, but since they were promoted at the saeguk Romeo and Juliet, it's unavoidable that we expected to see more excitement and substance from their first meeting. Right now, I still haven't seen their chemistry.

  15. @annannanann: I know. I'm, in fact, fully aware of the responsibilities and difficulties of maintaining a site as I have been admin and moderator for a number of fansites for the past years. That's why I'm not rushing head first into this. I just want to put out a suggestion and talk it through with others in the thread. If we decide to go through with it, it wouldn't be so serious or fancy either. The blog could be just a very straightforward storage for anything relates to CJH. It could be like our thread, sans the discussion and chit chat. Anyone with enough interest and dedication can take part in it. Anyway, we'll see how it goes for the next few days.

  16. Let's talk about this for the next couple of days. We don't want to rush into it and have a disorganized page. I want to hear from other people too. Please let me know if you're interested in helping out with this blog. It's an advantage if you know Tumblr already, but it's alright if you don't. Tumblr isn't a complicated platform.

This is an example of a fansite on Tumblr: http://fy-exo.com/

    Pros:
    - It's convenience to post links, photos and text posts.
    - There are a good number of his fans on Tumblr so we can pool fanart to our blog by tracking his tag and reblog from them.
    - The tag system makes it easy for people to browse and find what they want.
    - We can link it back to this thread and other pages, his twitter for instance.

Cons: we'll have to alternatively use the account since technically there can only be one admin per blog.

  17. I know that some of us here are on Tumblr, so I have a suggestion: what do you guys think about having a tumblr account for CJH? We can post and reblog anything relating to him on that blog, categorizing them into news, information, photos, fandmade, etc. I think that just having a blog for him in English will help new international fans to find out about him faster. Soompi thread is a great place for us to meet, but during the breaks in between his projects like this, photos and news updates tend to get lost between member's discussions. Updating the first page could only help so much. On Tumblr, we can avoid this problem, and we can also have multiple admins to keep the blog going.

  18. urg look at those long legs

@annasophiabby: I have mixed feelings about Sword and Flower. It has a feudal Chinese romantic undertone, the casts are really good looking, however, the editing is rather sloppy with cheesy effect and awkward transitions. But it's still worth checking out.

@Mishiellie: Take care. The translation and us will still be here when you come back. Don't push yourself.

    @anannanann: I miss him too D:

Whenever I watch something, I keep thinking "Oh how i wish it was CJH playing this."

I saw that a lot of actors breaking into movies, so hopefully he'll get to do some in the future. The upside of doing movie is that he can do a variety of genres and broaden his acting range, a wise chosen movie project could also give his career a great boost. On the other hand, movie characters tend to be underdeveloped due to the time restriction. It also means we get less swooning time with him.

For IHYV, a lot of people still defend that the writer did a realistic portrayal of Korean juridical system. I know all legal systems have their corrupted and inefficient parts, but the reason it looks bad in the show is mainly because she just breezed through that aspect without any care for finesse.

@yuuqiikeke: It was the opposite for me when it came to No Min Woo. He used to have some wild hair back in the day he was Rose, the drummer of the rock band "The Trax". Since I got to know him as Rose first, I got quite a shock to see him in short hair in "My girlfriend is a gumiho". I like him better as a musician tbh. It's mesmerizing to see him playing drums.

  19. I swear this drama is accidentally funny. They tried too hard to imitate that romantic feels from Chinese wuxia series. Yeah, Chinese wuxia dramas have plenty of sappy scenes and effects, such as twirling in a spiral while gazing lovingly into each other's eyes, billowing hair/capes/clothes, petals or snowflakes raining down from the sky. But they mastered that exaggeration so their scenes look no where as awkward as those in here.

Besides, the transitions are weirdly (or poorly?) edited, making the narrative feel rather choppy and disjointed. They also have a peculiar choice of soundtracks. Mellow track for fight scenes, melancholic track for tension, and what's with that James Bond music when they first met?!! I giggled so hard when they started playing it.

Not to say I dislike the show, I probably will check out the 2nd episode.

  20. Does anyone know when they start filming "Heirs"? I'm too lazy to check with the drama thread. I probably won't even go there until the drama gets aired.

@annasophiabby: a little bit late, but welcome to our cozy group.

I'm watching "I hear your voice", "Cruel City", "Goddess of Fire", "She is WOW" (very good and also very underrated), "Tokyo Love" and "Teen Wolf". I've also just finished... reading recaps for So Ji Sub's "Ghost" lol. I still have CJH's "My daughter the flower" on queue. Since it's summer I have plenty of time to check out different dramas. But I'm not zealously following any of those shows per say, just kinda watch them with a clinical curiosity and little emotional investment for the characters. I guess I'm just saturated with dramas.

    What are you watching?
