  1. Although the English sub translation for the inherited genetic disorder is "Remington" disease, undoubtedly the screenwriter meant Huntington's disease where usually symptoms first appear when a person is in their 30's or 40's and the symptoms are both physical, cognitive and psychiatric.  The symptoms displayed by Se Eum's mother match those spelled out in Mayo Clinic's description of the disorder. There is a 50% chance of inheriting Huntington's from a parent who has the defective gene.

my guilty pressure weirdly enough is not crime/thriller drama.  It is Life is Beautiful. it aired in SBS in 2010.  It is family drama with lot of tears and joy.  I have watched it four times.

For me, in no particular order, "Secret Love Affair", "Life is Beautiful", Surgeon Bong Dal Hee", "City Hall", "The Man Who Can't Get Married", "You Came From The Stars", "Misaeng", and "I Hear Your Voice".

  3. Since SLA there have been a few noteworthy Kdramas, but nothing even close to SLA.  TY shooastrid  for your commentary on the prison scene at the end of the last episode.  For two other extraordinary TV dramas, I recommend the 2010 Kdrama "Life is Beautiful" and the 2017 Cdrama, "The First Half of My Life".

  4. In my critique of Money Game, I'm a decided outlier.  If I hadn't liked the first 14 episodes so much, I wouldn't have bothered airing my disappointment in the last two episodes. I've thought about the reason for my disappointment and the core of it was this:  The characters in episodes 1 through 14,  both the bad guys and the good guys,  were tough and edgy; so much so that it seemed as if episodes 15 & 16 had been written by a different author.  The characters did an abrupt about face,  turning from tough to soft; from edgy to mush. I had invested so much time in them that these role reversals was a real let down.

  5. Just finished ep 13 & 14.  I must confess that I can't really figure out Heo Jae. There's nothing wrong with having political ambitions if he's not corrupt and  his economic goals are good for the people of his country. It seems that his short term goals are in sync with those of Yi Hun.  But, do their long term goals differ? If I remember correctly, in a past episode, Yi Hun told Hye Joon,  in substance, that he was wary of Heo Jae over the long term but would work with him in the short term.  Of course, there's also the matter of the indisputable fact that Heo Jae pushed the professor over the ledge causing the professor's death.  That would seem to disqualify Heo Jae from elective office.  But, in present day politics, maybe not. The wrap-up of this drama should be interesting.

  6. Money Game is seriously underappreciated. I think it's terrific with each episode even more exciting than the last. My take on the "chemistry" between Eugene and Hye Joon is that it has a danger vibe as opposed to a sexual vibe.  She perceives something mentally "off" about him and his mommy complex gets really turned on by her. I think that if she's interested in anyone, it's Yi Hun;  but I don't see any interest in her on his part other than protecting her as a woman and junior colleague. Of course, I reserve the right to be completely wrong!!! The macroeconomic twists and turns are a bit hard to follow but I console myself with the thought that I don't have to understand everything to generally follow the plot points. In short, I'm really looking forward to the final four episodes.

  7. I was almost about to pass up Money Game and boy am I glad I didn't. The drama got me hooked at the very first episode and although I can't claim I understand all the ins and outs of the  financial maneuverings, I get the gist and that's enough to hold my interest.  Plus, the characters are well developed and well acted.  Count me in for the next 6 episodes.

  8. Episodes 10 & 11 didn't disappoint. Our hero manages to turn what should have been a spring training fiasco into a fantastic opportunity for the less experienced players to improve their skills. He also allows himself to feel more comfortable and to occasionally smile as he observes his brother confidently perform in his new position. Larus' observations about Kwon are right on target.  As for Im Dong Kyu, the throwaway remark in ep. 11 that he looked much bigger made me think that he will be the one outed for steriod use.

The lunar NY is a big thing in Chinese/Korean culture.  It’s bigger than Christmas.  It’s a public holiday.  24th night is reunion dinner night.  Most get to leave work early to prepare.  Everyone is supposed to return “home” to have a family meal together.  25th is the actual New Year and celebrations include visiting relatives in hierarchical order.  And there’s more feasting.  Ratings will probably suffer.  I wouldn’t be sitting in front of a TV watching.  I’d be busy with catching up with extended family and eating.   Staff and cast will probably want a break too.  So I can understand why they would postpone screening till after festivities.

TY for the info.  In view of the circumstances, I will forgive SBS just this once.

  10. I thought ep. 10 was a disappointing departure from the previous episodes. To my mind, the  ploy to get the autopsy photos into the hands of YJW  was totally incredible and felt jarring. The ninja warriors ploy, albeit to a far lesser extent,  also begged credulity. To be clear, I thoroughly enjoyed the earlier episodes and thought the writer had convincingly brought the viewers along the complicated plot developments.  Any thoughts about this from other commentators?

  11. In the US, workplace sexual harassment/abuse has been leading the headlines for weeks. The teachable moments have been the number of women who have called out their abusers, in effect banding together to say, "no more"!!  In First Life, SJ absorbs the physical and verbal hits from both the men and women in her workplace. It takes courage to confront bad behavior and especially to be one of the vanguard. Any woman as intent as SJ is in keeping her job and advancing in her company would need to be very diplomatic in challenging her abusers. (eg., an educational approach might be more politic). However, she still runs the real risk of condemnation.  Yet, unless women take the initiative, I fear very little will change.

  12. Mental illness is not a taboo subject or a disgraceful condition. I do not think my comment about the possibility that SH might be somewhat autistic was wrong or disrespectful. It was merely a query based upon observed behavior.  From  the website, The National Autism Association.Org : "Because autism is a spectrum disorder, it can range from very mild to very severe and occur in all ethnic, socioeconomic and age groups. Males are four times more likely to have autism than females."  The website makes clear that there is an extensive range of possible behaviors, not all of which need be exhibited. These are two of the possible behaviors described in that website that might apply to SH: A person with autism spectrum disorder might:  "(h)ave difficulty understanding, or showing understanding,  (of) other people’s feelings..." and,  might "have obsessive interests".
