  1. Hello Chingus. Thank you @KDramaFan0828  @HPholic99 @Crystalclear and @snowlou for your wonderful insights.

My post may be long too, so bear with me chingus.

    1. In the car park scene, we see IkJun asking Songhwa to park his bike. He could've parked his bike find without Songhwa's help seeing as he took the time to argue with her. But I also noticed that IkJun loves to tease Songhwa. So far he has been the only one that has teased her. From episode 1 after band practice to now episode 6. And when he was leaving, he asked her to get him coffee. He did not specify what kind of coffee but still Songhwa knew and told him to meet him at the lobby.

    2. At the cafe, we see Songhwa admonishing IkJun for teasing Seokmin. And when Songhwa was asked what shewould like to do if she had one Year off, IkJun jumped out and said that she would probably like to study. Songhwa refused, but then in episode 11 when she said she was going to Sokcho, Songhwa said she also wanted to study while she was there. So despite her refusal, IkJunknew her enough to know exactly what she would do if she were to get time off.

Also, when she was listing things she would do for fun, she said she would go hiking and to the beach. In one of Dr Bong salon, he mentioned the things IkJun likes doing for fun. Hiking was one of the activity he mentioned. So, as much as we see the difference between IkJun and Songhwa, there are very many similarities between the two.

    3. Dinner scene. As my fellow chingus have said, IkJun was way too quiet. He didn't even look at her like the others. Also, when Songhwa said that ''if it's bad, the people at the hospital will talk about it. And she hates that'', IkJun looked at her was when he said ''what are you talking about, it's not going to be bad''. He said it but barely looked at Songhwa. This shows he was more worried than he showed.

Something else to note is that when Songhwa said the doctor will see her earlier than usual, Seokhyeong said that that the doctor is excellent for seeing her early. Then IkJun the big liar said ''RIGHT? IT'S SO EARLY I CAN NEVER DO THAT!'' But we all know he was there earlier than Songhwa herself.

    4. Let me be honest. The first time I watched this scene, I did not think of anything when IkJun was heading out. Only when he bought 5 coffees is when I thought they were all going to the hospital and be there with Songhwa. It did not even cross my mind that he was going to Go Ara. Anyway, this episode is the first and only time we see Songhwa shaken a bit. Even when she told the guys that she was scared, she did not look the slightly shaken. So, it was very heartbreaking to see her struggle alone in her car so worried about the request. She had her brave face on during the long walk to the consultation room until she reached there to find someone waiting. First of all, I screamed when it was only IkJun. Then a bit sad that the rest weren't there. But my shipping heart was happy. I digress, sorry. We saw Songhwa smile after seeing IkJun there waiting, and it was like some of her worries were gone. Even though she told him to go home, she still was glad he was there. And like @Crystalclear said, IkJun acted like her husband when the nurse came. And Songhwa did not say a word during this exchange. A lot has been said about how IkJun said that he would fix her no matter what. She thought he was talking as a doctor but we all think he was talking as a man who is afraid and worried for his friend and maybe the woman he likes. Something to note here is that IkJun knew the consultation room without asking Songhwa. I wonder how he found out about which doctor treated her.

    5. After results. When after the 3 guys went in to check on her, Songhwa asked ''did everyone come?''. Chihong answered ''there's one more''. Some people think she forgot about IkJun here. But in reality, seeing as IkJun did not have his car with him, he came in to work with Songhwa. In her car. So they were together from the consultation room to Yulje. So she didn't think IkJun would come to check on her too since he already was with her in the morning. Which is why she didn't say a word when IkJun came in with the coffee. And I may be wrong, but I think this scene is where Chihong gets an inclination of something going on between the Songhwa and IkJun. Since every guy did not come in and when they opened the door she immediately responded to them. But she was different with IkJun.

    6. Flashback scenes. We had 2 flashback scenes. The one that shows when they officially first met. Here we see IkJun smitten. He was taut and tense. But still managed to find ways to look at Songhwa. There was also a point where Songhwa tried to seek at IkJun too. I can't post picture of it now.

The second flashback shows Songhwa's POV and Changwon boys during orientation. Since we only saw the Seoul's boys part in episode 1. We see Songhwa following IkJun(I refuse to consider that she followed JWan because she didn't even get a peek of him in their first melting) but we don't know why she got into the shed the last one. No theory is that she went to take her camera since it didn't seem she had it with her.

Then we see Seokhyeong confessing and we find out that IkJun planned to ask her out too on that same day. We see after seeing Seokhyeong out, he went back in to drink his sorrows away. Which shows us that he lied to Songhwa when he said he went home after drinking. Which reminds me, when Songhwa asked him why he kept quiet, it seems like something kind of clicked. Maybe she remembered that they were supposed to meet that day but IkJun cancelled and she finally found out why she canceled their meet. But that's just my mind going haywire.

Also, have y'all noticed that in every band practice, Songhwa looks at IkJun. Every single band practice she has managed to look at him. But IkJun only looks at her at some of them. I don't know what this means, it's just something I noticed.

    Extra notes:

We all know that episode 6 is the end of the first act. By now, everything is established. Every love line in episode 6 was seen worrying about their prospective other. You had IkJun worrying over Songhwa, JWan was worrying over Iksun's answer. And in episode 12 flashback, we saw Jwon worrying over Gyeoul same with Seokhyeong lingering look towards Minha. Seems he too was worried for her.

Lol, I'm afraid my post turned out longer than intende guys.

It is too melodramatic if SeokHyeong is included in the equation. Shin PD already planned not to do so.

So I believe that Shin PD will not disappointed us and will keep it simple and it will be just Ik-Song

Yes, especially when Seokhyeong now has 2 other women in his life now. His ex and Minha.

I think the problem will be just between IkJun and Songhwa. Mostly Songhwa's feelings.

Welcome @~Always~ and @Crystalclear feel free to move down your views on anything iksong. Today is the re-watch of episode 5 too.

  3. Everyone's insight was so great. I'll just add a few things.

Episode 4 shows us more of SHwa and IkJun because these two are the ones that went through changes in the past episodes. So we get to see how they are handling things especially for IkJun.

First of all, I think Dr. Bong is more close to Songhwa and IkJun than the rest. Because everytime he talks about IkJun he always calls him a prick or a jerk. And Songhwa because they've probably been working together for 10 years. Which is why most of what he says about these two are accurate than what he says about the other three. I think he relies more on the past regarding the other three.

To me this episode made clear of the love lines except for SHyung. We saw the way Jwan looked at Iksun during her bidulgi scene, the elevator scene specifically put IkJun out as Gyeoul possible partner to a mentor/brotherly relationship and put in Jwon as the only possibility. Even though at this point we still weren't convinced IkJun and Songhwa will go the love route, we still saw the contrast in their being alone between this episode and the 2nd episode. When IkJun commented on her excellent parking, Songhwa responded cheerfully and even made a joke. This exchange showed promise between the two.

We also got to see the past love interest. During canon, when Songhwa said she would be the vocalist, it was only Jwan than interrogated her. It always made me wonder why didn't IkJun interrogate her too seeing as he can sing too? But without the foresight of episode 6, it was just a wonder.

Anyway, during practice in 99 we saw that Songhwa fell for IkJun even before SHyung fell for Songhwa. Without the knowledge of episode 6, this can be seen by how Songhwa looked at IkJun when he first played the guitar. And it was then we knew that he was her first love.

Further down the line as practice goes on so maybe months or weeks is when we get to see SHyung falling for Songhwa. Seeing as Songhwa was practicing blood without IkJun, it means she was good enough to not need IkJun. It was also the only time she wasn't with IkJun. We also got to see lots of 'crumbs'. In the present, we also got to see IkJun explaining and pointing some tweaks to Songhwa about how to play the bass for the song.

Also, during band practice in 2019, Songhwa and Jwan were both set in a way that they faced IkJun. But throughout the whole piece, Songhwa looked at IkJun and smiled. Especially the part where IkJun went solo(I think?). Even though Jwan also looked at IkJun, it was because IkJun was there with him. But Songhwa looked at IkJun even when he wasn't looking at her.

I can't add anymore since everyone said so much already so I just noted down a few things. There are things I noticed in all your insights and I would get to them separately so as not to make this one long.

Interesting thing to note: when Dr Bong coined them as Lacking 5..he said that because everyone has something lacking...only later to start the introduction with Shwa..who he described as 'perfect' lol.

Yes, this too I noticed the first time I watched it. The only one on the list that was lacking in anyway was Junwan and maybe Seokhyeong as per his description. So, it was interesting the they were the lacking 5 only to proceed mentioning their greatest traits.

Possible or They asked him like junwan and iksun did before, when they asked him about Go Ara. He even share that to his patient.

It’s possible too that they know or hear it from someone.

But I’m very sure that they know how the ex-wife treated Ikjun

The only reason he told his patient about his divorce is so that she can relate and take care of herself. Also, this is the episode where it made me think about whether he told his friends.

Because he said he was embarrassed and his pride was hurt. So I honestly don't think he told them. And I don't think they heard it from someone since he never told anyone when he found out.

After rewatching HP more than 5 times, I just realized that Ikjun is really suffered in whole 20 years.

He’s funny and cheerful person, we even called him a clown but the truth is behind that mask (happy face) he wasn’t really happy, like joker (movie).

He never share his problem to his friends, he always go to club before not because he really wanted, it because he thinks that place can help him to his problem and forget anything about it.

Ikjun is a kind of man that “your happiness is more important than my own happiness.”

He never complained to his exes because he wanted to look contented and happy.

I don’t think he still loved his wife when she called him. He needs to look happy and excited like there’s nothing wrong to their relationship, (it’s really obvious that kind of relationship is not good and stable.) and because junwan was there. He want to see him as strong and happy in front of his friends and to uju. But actually Junwan and even uju know that he is not. When Junwan said to ikjun that divorce is his good decision because he knew that ikjun really suffered a lot.

Ikjun was sad when his wife wanted to divorce because he thinks about his son’s life.  He was really worried about his future, but after hearing to uju that all he needs is him, he’s really happy.

After his conversation with CH about iksun and his patients/parents, he realized and reflect it to himself.

That’s why he confessed his true feelings to songhwa and he visited iksun.

He did wrong decision to his life before, but now he opened  his eyes and heart.

Do you think he told his friends that his wife cheated on him?? For me, I don't think he has told his friends yet.

then I suppose the writer can introduce a new love interest for Ik Jun to make Songhwa jealous. Honestly though, Songhwa is so calm that I can’t imagine seeing that side of her

Assuming her silence to IJ confessions means she may in a way like him too, I for one would love to see SHwa shaken a bit. Or acknowledge her feelings in any way. And for her to retain her calmness to the outside, she can do it while alone. We have seen IJ in season 1 being the one on the front foot. Asking SHwa to eat, for a drive in the rain, being there for her etc. I would love for this time since the ball is now on her court, for her to initiate all these things. And not when she is with her residents.

Regarding IKSONG season 2, if we go by Shin PD interview, I think the issue will be resolved in the early episodes. Although I don't think it would be a total rejection, we should prepare ourselves for it.

Adding to your possibilities, I happened across this tweet a couple of hours ago. It would plausibly explain how detached the ex-wife was able to be?

Another possibility is they got Uju right after marriage. Which made IJ devoted to his son. When he was talking to his wife about her wanting a divorce, he said he likes that she is a career woman and that he can take care of Uju. Nothing about his feelings for her. This means he may have had feelings for her enough to get married but he ended up loving Uju more.

Also if I may jump to episode 7 when IJ was talking to his patient about his wife cheating on him, he said at first his pride was hurt. Then he was embarrassed. Not heartbroken or anything, but just that he was embarrassed to face other people and that he felt his life get difficult.

I love reading all your analysis ladies.  Can’t add more to it so I’ll just ask questions lol.

Do you think there’s a significance of showing IJ picking up Songhwa’s shoe and measuring it before he throws it down? If so, what’s your take on the “shoe”?

I’ve read different theories elsewhere but wanted iksong shippers POV.

To me, I don't think there was any significance. He was never settled in that scene. He moved around a lot playing with many things. He played with almost everything when he was at SHwa's desk, then when he was beside SH he wrote on his scrubs. Then he moved again and I think SHwa's shoe was the next thing in front of him to play with.

His real moments of weakness are only shown when he is alone or extremely drunk. Which is why I think his confession to song hwa in 10th episode about her being his only happiness Carried so much weight to me. More than any other confession or action. That was a real moment he actually showed some vulnerability to her. I think he is finally starting to open his heart up to the possibility of love. And he knows in his heart that she was always the one.

In a way he is sort of a tragic character. Which is why I do hope he gets the love he actually deserves in leaps and bounds from her. And is finally able open up and grow as a person along with her.

Yes, IJ is a person that would rather find the happy side of things than dwell on the sad parts. There many things about IJ one notices as each episode goes by. Also, his first confession was the best to me for many reasons.

Rewatching episode 3 just reminded me of the low point in his life and how he handled it all alone. I got so used to the IJ in the later episodes that was taking care of everyone else that I forgot no one took care of him in this episode. And since he is such a joker, it was easy to know that something was up with him. JWan knew, the transplant coordinator also knew.

It's why I want to see him happy. Since his happiness is with SHwa, then I'll support him all the way. Also, many people consider SHwa the emotional pillar of the group, but I think to SHwa, IJ is somehow her pillar too.

We all think of Ikjun as the clown, the mood maker, the one who always makes others laugh. But no one was there to cheer him up when he was at his lowest point. He's always listening to others and giving other people advice, while he keeps his troubles bottled up inside him and tries to overcome them on his own. Sigh.

This is why I was slightly, just slightly disappointed. Even though I understood the situation between them.

As IJ was explaining his decision to delay operating on his braindead patient, he said “He was supposed to have jajangmyeon with his dad”. In a way, I think IJ was also speaking for himself here, especially since he had no choice but to put his emotions aside to perform his duties. I believe in this scene, the sadness brought about by his sympathy to his patient’s family was intensified further by his own grief.

I have lots to comment on, and I will when I get settled. But this part is something that has also been on my mind I just didn't know how to put it. I think, the fact that IJ did not want the son to remember children's day as a day his dad died, I think IJ will remember it sadly. It's the day he found out how dysfunctional his marriage was. And that despite his efforts he couldn't have done anything. So, while he was grieving this, he was able to still think of his patient's son and make sure he avoids the sadness that would've been children's day.

I think IJ will remember children's day as the day everything crumbled in his marriage life. Or something to that effect.

I'm so excited to be able to do this with you all:wub:

  12. PART 2

    IkSong

The lunch scene is where it's all at. First of all, just to put it out there, IJ and SHwa have the same eyesight. This means they tried and probably wore each others glasses. Just food for thought :D

Anyway, when SHwa was telling JWon about his cleanliness and how he should see a shrink, she said it in a calm voice. But when she turned to IJ to scold him about playing around with her things, her voice changed into a strong one. It's a tone she has only used on IJ as we all know. Mostly it's because IJ is usually all over the place. We got to see her hit('touch') him and see her scold him for moving about. And she had a smile when JWan was talking about IJ's highschool days. A smile we all know is reserved for IJ. In all 3 episodes, SHwa was free to be angry with IJ. Like episode 2, although she was arguing with JWan, she still was a bit calm. Imagine had it been IJ who didn't tell her. We saw in the first episode after band practice, when IJ teased her about singing, she threw her shoe at him.

Also, IJ barely talked to SHwa. Actually, I think in the whole of episode 3, IJ did not talk to SHwa at all. He may have looked at her while talking, or when he was expecting an answer. The only time he said her name was when he was waiting for GU to pick a surgery. Even then he just spoke of what she wanted to eat. It was SHwa who talked to IJ. But we could all see their connection even. Also, even though IJ moved about the room, he still ended up beside SHwa. He started at her desk where he was beside her and when she moved to the coach, he too moved to sit near her. Which has made me notice that even in the past episodes, IJ was beside SHwa. Episode 1 when signing the contract she was beside him, episode 2 during dinner she was beside him, and now even moving about he ended up near her. Even though they may not have been close for the past 5 years or so, they still have a sense of each other.

Something else to note is that, when the GU was having lunch with the Dr and nurse, they asked her if she liked Professor Lee. When she said yes, they told her 'but he has a kid'. Not that he is married/has a wife but just that he has a kid. I'm not sure yet what to make of this.:innocent:

  13. I ended up having a long post. So I'll put it in 2 parts. :D

    PART 1

This episode we mostly say the 3 friends that were the first to meet. IkJun, SongHwa and JunWan. They had more screen time this episode than SH and JWon.

This episode, SHwa and IJ did not have much screen time together. Even in a group. They were together only during their lunch hour. And for us IkSongs, it is enough to write a full blown article about the two of them.

I'll start with IJ's call from his wife. When he got the call, he was surprised and said it's been so long. This means, they haven't talked to each other in a long time. One would think you would talk to your wife/husband that lives so far away almost everyday. But in their case, they can go many days without talking to each other. This shows that they are not very close as most husband and wife would be. So the wife hasn't called to check on her child. And the fact that they both agreed to live apart, is a statement in itself about their feelings for each other.

Although we all agree IJ may have loved his wife enough to marry her, I think somewhere there he was just more happy having a kid and the fact that his wife lived so far away, it didn't cross his mind much that maybe his feeling may have changed and or lessened. When JWan asked out loud whether IJ was having an affair, I think the show was trying telling us that his wife was the one having an affair and not IJ. It was like a foreshadowing.

When IJ was talking to his wife and she asked to go somewhere quiet, I think he may have had a feeling of what would be said. His face changed from being happy to see his wife to alert. He was so excited to see his wife, but she wasn't. She was serious from the get go. Like she was meeting a coworker and not her husband.

When he called the restaurant to know what Uju ate that made him have an clergy reaction, he found out that his wife was there with someone else. He learned that his wife was cheating on him. It was blow after blow for our IJ and this was able to put him in a terrible mood. Enough for people to recognize something is wrong. Even the transplant coordinator was able to pick it up just from a phone call. But he put his feelings aside and was there for his patient.

This episode was about IJ's life as a father who was living for his son. We saw him passing by a karaoke place at night with his son. By then we did not know where his wife was. We just know he was married.

The best part for me in this episode was when he pushed the removal of the heart until after midnight so that the patient's son would not be sad every children's day.

  15. Before I post my insights, I would like to vent about something that has been bothering me.  So, if y'all would let me, I'm going to vent a bit.

While watching, some things made me think again and made me disappointed in JWan and JWon.

When IJ left to talk to Gyeoul, JWan first thought was that maybe IJ was cheating on his wife. I know he phrased it as a question but shouldn't he as someone who has known IJ the most, know that he wouldn't cheat on his wife? I mean why go straight into thinking he was having an affair? I was disappointed in him.

JWon too. He knows IJ. They have been friends for 20 years. He did not even say that 'IJ would never do that' but rather went straight to IJ and called him out. If you watch, you'll see IJ taken back after JWon said 'not with Gyeoul of all people'. I understand we get to see JWon get mad and interested in GU, but it paints IJ as someone who can have an affair when married. Neither JWon nor JWan asked IJ if he was having an affair, they just reprimanded him.

SHwa too in a way. When she was asked to check on IJ, she said he will sort it out himself. Without the knowledge of the later episodes, I was slightly hurt that she didn't go check on IJ. As one of his best friend, one would think she would just go and check if he is okay. Even if he won't tell her anything.

Anyway, now that this is off my chest I'll soon post other insights.

@Jules @KDramaFan0828 I like your line of thinking and I'll willingly and happily go along with it. So we'll differentiate between IJ's touch and SHwa's touch. So we'll categorise IJ's touch to only represent his POV while SHwa's hers. And we have here so far IJ's touch progression from the shed all the way to his confession in Sokcho (and if i remember I'll see whether I can pay attention to SHwa's reactions to these touches). We also think that SHwa so far only did those friendly touch to IJ and nobody else - that what she did to ChiHong was just strictly professional :P. The 'hit' in ep 3...if i'm not mistaken this is the first time we see SHwa 'touched' IJ right?

If we were able to cash in some money every time we mention 'touch'... we would be rich by now :Megalol: I'm still in the middle of organising my note on ep 3. So I"ll be back later in the day to post it.

Good morning and have an awesome day everyone!

HAHAHAHA, we will all be analysing and categorizing the touches.

I finished watching episode 3. I can't wait to read everyone's insight. Because episode 3 is where our ship was complete:sweatingbullets:
