Chef and JiWan are so cute, and I would watch an entire drama about them. They don't have a lot of screen time, but I find myself rooting for them. Their interactions are really cute and less forced than the main couple.

ChaeRi is a terrible person, but I want to know more about her. I need to know why she is the way she is, and why she treats the cast like lab rats. It's almost more for her own amusement than for ratings, which is so much more interesting than whatever Yeo-Reum's story is supposed to be.

Just popped into this forum to say hi after watching the latest ep. Chef and JiWan are definitely the little ray of sunshine in this drama at the moment.

ChaeRi is a terrible but fascinating person to watch. I love how there isn't a really evil antagonist in this particular drama, just a bunch of morally ambiguous peeps.

completely agree with you all. I really liked the main couple until the last 20 mins of ep 12 - so out of character, making that relationship to tiring and toxic, we don't even know why they fight. The writer could have done so much fun office hijinks instead of stupid fights. It completely destroyed the drama. I am super disappointed.

Agree. The last twenty minutes do feel like we're watching a different couple. A little bit of bickering would have made sense. Even a bit of Hong Yesool complaining about Cha Minhu behind his back to her besties would have made sense too. But I am glad that it didn't end with a picture perfect 'destined to date' relationship.

The flashback at the start of ep 12 was cute though. Glad they put that in.

Could the King's evil spirit be activated somehow inside Uk if he gains power?

Many different options at this point.

One possibility is that Jang Gang returned to his own body but because the king's body died, the king could not return to his own body? So Jang Gang's body could contain two souls that are in constant conflict. Sometimes Jang Gang has control over himself and is able to do things like seal his son from magic, but sometimes not, so he's exiled himself from court to figure things out.

The King's soul is probably waiting to take over Uk's body?

But what should I do for awaiting to the late night of Wed 22nd June for next 2 episodes?

Rewatch all of the released episodes to get all the stuff we missed the first time round.

    :hahah!:

There's so much physical intimacy in this kdrama. Thank goodness the chemistry between HYS and CMH is great.

Getting closer to the end of the series now (only 2 episodes left). Some loose ends that need closure:

    - Who was the Mopix snitch?

    - Will HYS regain her memories of CMH/the accident and how will she respond?

    - Will Howoo and the doctor hook up again by the end of the series?

    - Is Howoo going to die?

    - Will people at work find out about the CMH/HYS office romance and how will this affect HYS?

    - What is the deal with the creepy barman?

I'm guessing the last 2 episodes will focus on the creepy barman and the Mopix curse and less on the CMH-HYS courtship.

What are your thoughts? Any other loose ends that you can think of?

    Oh it's 12 episodes??

Well, I thought based on the first page of this forum, it's only 10 (?).

Yeah, I thought it was 12 episodes too. I'm so used to 16-episode pacing now, anything shorter or longer feels too fast/slow. But some 12-ep-length dramas are paced really well; I really really hope this is one of them.

I'm guessing Cha Minhoo is going to get nursed by Hong Yesool in the next episode? Some tropey forehead comparing like in 'Romance is a Bonus Book'? Or will Hong Yesool be carrying him on her back like in earlier episodes?

So, I guess the one that broke into the Yesol's house and who also stalked her in Jeju with his car is the bartender man from Que Sera Sera bar? Guess he got something to do with the accident that happened to Yesol and caused the death of her father (?)

And I guess Yesol and Minhoo met when they were kids. And Yesol forget him after the accident (?). I wonder if the abilities they have now caused by that  incident...

    4 hours ago, backstreetboysfan said:

Yeah I agree, I think he is the same one as well.

Yeah I bet they did meet when there where younger and that is how they have those powers. I think she can't remember right is because of the accident

Yep, there's definitely something going on with the bartender/photo thief.

Sounds like Yesool was traumatised by whatever happened to her and Minhoo as kids and has forgotten everything. Though it sounds like Minhoo remembers her, and was looking forward to his childhood 'cheot-sarang' starting at ZeuAd...until he found out that she doesn't remember him and she's dating someone already.

The prickliness between Cha Minhoo and Hong Yesool while they're dating is refreshing. I'm used to seeing the weird 'Day One' syndrome, that episode between confession and the next bump in the road, when the main couple are awfully lovey dovey. It's good to see Minhoo and Yesool continuing to test each other and being unsure of each other. For example, not calling straightaway, not answering a call straight away. It seems more realistic and that original sexual tension has not dissipated.

I'm loving this drama!! It's what I needed, what with all the grown up kissing!! thank goodness the actors are competent in that department!! Episode 6, thank you!! :kiss_wink: Muchas gracias!!

Yes, nothing worse than those kiss scenes where they lean in close and then just hover for ages while the camera angles change a gazillion times.

    :hahah!:

So glad that is not the case with this drama!

omg they kissed again and she ask's him to date.

I think the thief is just some random thief. If it was someone from the office, Min-hoo would have probably recognised the sound of their stride because he's weird like that.

Omo, how good is the kissing? So much chemistry! I can see why Yesool keeps on kissing him. All of that positive reinforcement....every time she kisses him, she sees something nice. If I were her, I'd probably keep on kissing him too. :fullofhearts:

  9. Loving Hong Yesool's OTT imaginings of what it's like to date her boss. She had a couple of evil-boss-boyfriend ones at the start and now they've branched out into Fifty Shades of Grey territory.

It's interesting how Min-hoo and Yesool's powers not only make them miserable but they also affect people around them. Pilyo keeps on wondering why Yesool looks so distant/hurt whenever she kisses him. No one can have a private conversation at the office because Min-hoo hears all.

Looking forward to seeing more of this drama next Wed.

Episode 3 and 4 weren't as good as 1 and 2 methinks. Mostly because I am having difficulty accepting Kim Ja-Seok's second lead guy. Whenever i see his face, I think of Monthly Magazine Home.

But it is interesting to see more of Cha Min Hu's weird powers and weaknesses, and it's fun hypothesising why the two main leads hook up with each other. Also, Cha Min Hu is already looking hotter with his new haircut and glasses. Hehe.

Yeah, I thought I'd need more than a couple of episodes to get into this one but ep one and two were good. Loved Seo Ji-Hye in CLOY; it's really great to see her as a ML this time. Also any drama with Hwang Bo-Ra as comedic relief is :1646639759_ezgif.com-gif-maker(1):!

Haha yes 100% agree that this is what a proper ending should be.

I also really liked how we got a peek into their life as a married couple and the ending shot of their wedding photo in their bedroom. I preferred this understated way of letting viewers know they achieved their happily ever after. I'm going to miss this.

New to this particular forum. Anyeonghaseoyo!

I really wanted to see that photo of her glaring down at him again or even both of them death-staring from the end of the bed just for lols, but a wedding photo was pretty cool also.

Loved watching this drama. I wish Sina was still a little bit crazy towards the end...she seemed to have lost a bit of spunk...but I am glad Noh Gojin rediscovered how to be human again by the 16th episode.

But I really do like the idea that Ga On Oppa is a real oppa and not just a contender for CP's heart. :)

It may be that the assassination attempt on the hunting ground is connected to the Queen Dowager. Coz everyone will likely suspect the Queen who ordered them.

While I for now trust Dowager Queen is genuinely worried about Lee Hwi and got her a body guard, but if Kim Ga On is actually the attacker from hunting grounds, Dowager Queen could have some other agenda as well since in palace, you can hardly trust anyone.

Yes, I really do think that the Dowager Queen set up the assassination attempt in order to gain access to the Crown Prince. The new queen (or someone who is of her party) said that someone was trying to frame her, and that it was quite possibly the Crown Prince. Not much of a far stretch to assume that the prince's 'allies' set the whole thing up.

Is the Dowager Queen aligned with the Crown Prince's maternal grandfather and not with the new queen's family? That would explain why she's siding with the Crown Prince.

I can't get over the number of oppas in this show. Royal tutor oppa, Hyun oppa, bodyguard oppa...It's getting confusing. Are they all going to fall in love with the Crown Prince? Who's your favourite oppa so far?

Also, does anyone know whether the father is based on an actual king or a fictional king?

    6. Which K-drama you cannot stop yourself from re-watching?

One Percent of Something - Steamy Romance, FL confident in herself and in her relationship with ML. Not much conflict. A good one to watch if you're in a romantic mood.

My answer is 'One Percent of Anything' (2016) with Ha Seok Jin and Jeon So Min. The reason why I do re-watch it from time-to-time is because it's a fun watch, honestly. It's cliche, but I like watching cliche romance K-dramas to make me feel good lol.

I forgot about this one! Isn't it nice to watch a straight up rom-com that isn't about serial killers or corruption or bullying or whatever? Sometimes I have trouble watching the thriller type K-dramas because they give me too much anxiety and remind me how crappy the world can be.

Is this going to be a sad ending where Dam-i lives out her life as a lonely King and perceived gay?

Or will she be able to abdicate and live out her life with the son of her brother's murderer?

Or will she fake her own death and live out her life with the son of her brother's murderer?

I am not sure about Korean culture. But in Chinese culture that would be the case. It would be similar. The other twin would need to be removed (killed). Even if they were both boys. Girls no need to say.

Ugh, it's hard to see how she'll escape this pickle. But out of all three options, the third one is the most likely option for a modern day sageuk. Feels shameless about living with the son of her brother's murderer, builds a bridge and gets over it. Fakes her own death. One of her rivals (a nice one) takes her place as Crown Prince/King. Gains happiness by not being lonely any more and by being able to be herself.

Really hoping that we don't get a sad ending. Dam-I has been through so much already. :'(

    Absolute truth!

I feel so vindicated. I have been telling my friends to watch K-drama / K movies for years now and they always turn me down. Now, they can't stop talking about this. :naughty: Are you a sageuk  fan?

But the K  dramas are catching up on the trend and have started seasons. I don't have the patience to watch and wait for seasons. Oh wae oh wae do they have to get into this seasons thing? It is such a bittersweet torture waiting for the next season. But at least we don't get countless number of seasons like in most western dramas. That's a respite, indeed. So I should stop cribbing and count my blessings. :D

YASSSS, totally feeling vindicated now that all the K-drama anti-fans are watching Squid Game. It's so exciting to hear/see Squid Game memes/jokes on our local TV stations.

And yes, I have a soft spot for sageuks. Most people fast-forward the scheming and all of the old men but I love that stuff.

I have noticed some multi-season K-dramas cropping up here and there. The only one I've watched is Kingdom, so I don't really know what to expect. I don't think I'd like it though (can't even deal with waiting for a week, let alone a whole year to find out what happens next).

    14 hours ago, j9sshi said:

Funny thing was, that while I continued watching K-dramas, my daughter stopped because she said 1- hour episodes were too long for her. :joy: She got used to watching Animes that had 20-30 minute episodes.   Only this past year have I been able to drag her into watching a Kdrama with me every now and then.  Lol

What are her thoughts on the shorter web dramas? They're usually 10-30 minute long episodes and a much shorter story arc.

  19. Hey @confusedheart, thanks for the tag. I'll try to answer these questions for the chingus.

    1. How did you start watching K-dramas?

Netflix! I stumbled across 'Love in the Moonlight', which reminded me of the Vietnamese historical soap operas my mum used watch. Stayed up all night, binge-watching all 16 episodes.

    1. Was there a specific K-drama that made you stay?

Umm, nope. I was pretty much hooked from the start.

    1. Which 3-5 K-dramas are the best dramas you've ever watched?

Ummm, that's like asking who is your favourite child. I'll give you the list I give K-drama noobs:

    1) Kingdom - it's the longer and better version of Rampant

    2) Flower of Evil - mostly because of Lee Joon Gi but also because it's just a good thriller

    3) Sungkyunkwan Scandal - for retro sageuk feels

    4) Squid Game - there's a reason why this drama made it to the heathens who don't usually watch K-dramas.

    1. Why would you recommend K-dramas to others who know nothing about them?

K-dramas are short and sweet. There's none of the fourth season fatigue that you see with multi-season dramas.

    1. What do K-dramas mean to you?

Representation. It's nice seeing the world through Asian eyes.

    1. Which K-drama you cannot stop yourself from re-watching?

I haven't really rewatched anything from K-drama-land over and over again. But if I did, I'd probably watch Feels Good to Die. Nothing better than a good time loop to keep me entertained.

in some ways, PD's choice to not show a kiss means the drama will age rather timelessly well. this is a drama

not sure if I can express well but am starting to understand why the PD chose to draw back on any real skinship for our OTP. rather than a typical love story of two people meeting, this is about a couple who are fighting to save their marriage, their family and themselves. there is no question on whether they will fall in love or whether they will commit to each other. no, the question was always about whether they will survive and how to protect each other and their family. their commitment and attraction to each other was always based on heart and mind. so PDnim chose to show the melding of two lives that became one without skinship or big confessions. given the maturity and the way these characters are, it seems right that a hug displays the depth of their feeling more than a kiss would. :sweatingbullets:

that said... I wouldn't have minded a kiss. hahahahaha.....

Yes, I do feel like the lack of skinship in this series gives it a timeless/classic quality. As awesome as kissing, etc. is, it just seems wrong in a period drama; PDLs just were not appropriate for the time. Maybe that is why the actors portray awkwardness when there is physical affection shown? Is it a deliberate choice by PD Nim?

Whatever the case may be, it just lets us focus on the small intimacies that are portioned out to us. My favourite still has to be when the princess calls out to Bawu as he is taken away by the police, when all formality of language is dropped.

the other fun scene was the family trying to figure out what to do with chadol's mom. had to laugh a little that the monk so callously said that he will make her face a wall and maybe in a few years, she will become human. ha! or he will just shave her head and force her to be a nun. ouch! no wonder she run off. we were expecting her to get tragically killed instead of the princess and that would have made it kind of tragic and sad for chadol. in this case, it is her own greediness that caused her downfall. she had no idea what kind of man left councilor was and instead of getting a reward, he ordered that she be rid without a second glance.. hope that is the left we see of her :sweatingbullets:...

I was wondering how they would fix the 'first wife' problem during this episode. Ba Wu is too noble to silence someone who knows about the princess, and bribes would have been a very short-term solution for this particular character (I can see her sucking him dry and then running off to the Left State Councillor for some more money). The writers sending her off to the Left State Councillor to do the dirty work was a neat solution.

I feel sorry for Chadol. He really doesn't deserve to have such a horrible woman as his biological mother.

Lol. I felt the same with Tale of Nokdu, 100 Days My Prince, and the Joseon Marriage Agency. Those dramas are best when they focus on the ordinary life...and get a bit tedious when it switches to court politics. I hope the Bossam team get the balance right this time round!
