If I wasn't mistaken Fuheng did came to know about her reason because when he convinced YL to return to Forbidden City, he said that whatever her reason was for becoming QL's consort, she needs to be his favourite.
Lol. It's easy to misinterpret based on the jerky ways that QL behaved towards YL ever since they fell out starting episode 55. People around QL (except Li Yu) were all fooled by him, thinking that he was madly infatuated by Chen Bi, even claiming that Chen Bi's effect on QL was greater than YL. Even YL herself felt challenged and told MY that she was afraid, the fight to win QL back is not going to be easy this time around. But when you watch and understand the dialogue between QL and Chen Bi, it is clear that Chen Bi isn't even a competition to YL. He went to visit Chen Bi only for the reason to ask about YL.

Not sure but I don't think so. QL was worried when the guards took YL away to send her to prison. He probably said that he will execute her out of impulse.
The only part that I feel he was serious about punishing YL was when he sentenced her to commit suicide so that she could join Fuca in death. Her words really hurt him and I think, he probably already given up on YL at this point (I think he gave up on her the moment Empress got pregnant but his interaction with YL when he was drunk in episode 38 speaks that there was still some lingering feelings for her) and that was why he also didn't hessitate to banish her to Yuan Ming Garden.

Can someone explain the scenes where YL is in YMY with the Dowager and she's writing the letters to QL? I know that she basically just updates him on how it's going in YMY, but why does QL only reply with the same response every time? To make it seem like he doesn't care/is still mad? (I loved the bit about how Li Yu knows that he wants to hear the messages, even if he pretends he doesn't want to.) And why does YL only send 安 (if I remember correctly) in that one letter?

Yes. Though never directly mentioned, he gave short replies on purpose because he wanted to show that he doesn't care. And for simple minded person like MY, she was under the impression that QL doesn't care about YL anymore. Out of 36 letters, he only replied 18 (cant remember exactly). So, for the final letter, YL only replied with the word "SAFE" and that short reply stirred QL (haha, she knows how to play with his feelings). So he got Li Yu to investigate and LY reported to him that YL fell sick for taking care of Dowager when she was unhealthy and that the last letter (with the word "Safe") was written by the maid. Ofc, QL was affected and worried.
Then proceeded to Fuheng winning a war and then Chen Bi came along.

SpoilerBefore the argument, QL was very angry at YL for poisoning Er Qing because she is a minister's wife/a noblewoman. But as expected by Empress Xian, QL would only get angry with her temporarily and would go running back to her soon and she was right. He was ready to go to her, only for Empress Xian to intercept and told him about YL taking anti-pregnancy medicine.
The noteable points in the arguement:
1) QL asked YL why she took the birth control medicine but she didn't answer him. So, he came up with all his theories and assumption and simply ask her to verify with a "yes" or "no".
2) QL said, YL set up every event from winning Dowager's favour at Yuan Ming Garden (refer to episode 42) which actually her attempt to get into QL's harem and she said YES.
3) QL said YL used him to avenge Fuca and she said YES.
4) QL said that YL pulled a string on him, playing with his heart so that she could get promoted till she could reach a level where she can take her revenge on Consort Chun and she said YES.
5) QL said, once YL had taken her revenge, she feels that QL could no longer be toyed around and so treating him coldly and distancing herself from him --- YL's initial answer was "If you already know the answer, then why are you asking?" --- but QL demanded an answer and she said YES.
6) YL then confirmed to QL that it was because of wanting to avenge Fuca that she decided to become QL's concubine.
7) QL, though heartbroken, didn't give up hope and so he asked her why did YL gifted him the fur hat (if she really has no love for him) and YL said, because she felt guilty since he treated her too well.
8) QL summed up that to YL, he means nothing to her but just a piece of chess for her scheming.
9) YL obviously angry with QL, accusing him of cheating on Fuca and asked him why he needs to love Er Qing out of all women but QL defended that he is innocent but YL insisted to believe that he is guilty. QL said, so in YL's eyes, he is a lecherous man who bedded his official's wife.
10) YL said that QL is cruel for making use of Fuca's death to punish his officials and QL explained that he needs a reason to punish those corrupt officials and Fuca is to serve her purpose as an Empress even in death.
11) QL then said to YL that she finally poured out her real feelings and that he had been too nice to her. Then he reminded her that he is an Emperor and that an Emperor is cruel. He said that whether she is willing or not, YL is his and will spend the rest of her life trapped in the Forbidden City.
12) Then before he left, he told her to no longer consume the birth control medicine since he won't visit her anymore.
Please note that YL left with Dowager is not directly related to this arguement. It was some arguement between QL and Dowager concerning his birth mother that Dowager left to Yuan Ming Garden and brought along YL with her.
It is also important to know that prior to this arguement, QL already suspected that YL got together with him to lead him to the truth about Consort Chun and all her evil deeds (he voiced this suspicion in episode 52). Thus, her consuming of the anti pregnancy medicine deemed to confirm his suspicion and guess, he already had all those theories in mind when he confronted her.

SpoilerIn Episode 60, after YL helping out Chen Bi from being punished by Empress Dowager (all the consorts ganged up with Empress Xian to take down Chen Bi by getting the shaman lady to say that Chen Bi is an evil spirit during a ceremony commemorating the death of Dowager's daughter, Princess He An).
QL asked Chen Bi how she got away from being punished by Dowager. Initially, Chen Bi persistently said she didn't know why but QL insisted for her to tell him the truth and she finally did. QL said that YL is very close to Dowager and understands her the most and that she could get Chen Bi killed if she really wanted to, but natural of YL is to not do such despicable things. Chen Bi then said to QL that no matter how nice he treated her, she knew that there is someone else in his heart that is YL. So, she offered to QL to find out how YL actually feel for QL. QL embraced the idea and asked Chen Bi if she really don't mind that he is only making use of her to win YL back and she said she is ok with it. QL also told Chen Bi that he could not accept that he has no place in YL's heart.
On whether QL told YL that he was using Chen Bi to make her jealous....actually not directly. When they reconciled in episode 64, she stated all her guesses and theories which he vehemently denied (out of pride and childishness) but she can tell that they are true.

Lol. My chinese is pretty rusty too, thankfully the subs proven my chinese isn't so bad. Yes, Empress Xian reminded YL of her low background. But logically, even when Emperor dotes on YL, he does not have any reason to remove the Empress and replace her with YL. That would be against the protocol, I think. But at the same time, Empress knows YL is very clever and she could probably get her removed, thus that's the basis of her concern. YL is right when she said she can never ranked above Empress Xian but the Empress also can never defeat her because she is QL's favourite, her rank maybe lower but the Emperor is behind her. That is why she said, their fight would be useless.

In episode 64, when YL pointed to him that he gifted Chen Bi only jewelleries so that she could wear them and show off to make YL jealous, QL said while he "doesn't love" Chen Bi and lavishing her with gifts to give face to Niuhuru clan, that does not mean he loves YL.

Does anyone think YL actually look QL will go looking for her and she orchestrated that scene... after QL left angrily, she turned around and immediately stopped crying. It was very sudden and deliberate (understand YL said she shouldn't have behaved like that but it seem like she created the scene for QL to see to make him jeaslous?).
It is obvious QL loves YL. He was honest to Chen Bi that YL is the one in his heart and asking her if she didn't mind that he was just using her to test YL's feeling for him. He probably liked Chen Bi but all the excessive favours and affection he showered her was to make YL jealous. He placed her for training at Yanxi just so he could find out if YL ever did think and talk about him. When YL and QL recoinciled, he admitted to YL that he never loved Chen Bi.
That part at Chang Chun palace is a bit tricky because I feel that YL was sincerely grieving MY's passing. In fact, only after she stopped crying and about to walk away that she suddenly felt something not right that Fuheng was there and so she asked him of how did he happened to know her whereabout? And Fuheng said it was Chen Bi who told him that she went missing.
From that point, YL probably could guess of Chen Bi's malicious intention. That's when she started to investigate MY's death and went to see QL. I think everything became clear to her once QL refused to see her (she could probably guessed that QL already seen her with Fuheng at Chang Chun) and so she came up with different plan. I don't see any point for her to make him even more jealous at this stage because she was actually more concerned about Chen Bi's evil deeds.

First, he was acting like a jerk ever since YL's return to the palace and flaunting around his affection for Chen Bi in a desperate attempt to make YL jealous.
With regards to the scene of MY's death, the devastated Yingluo shut everyone outside (the main palace hall) including Hailancha who demanded an explanation. QL came to Yanxi Palace and discovered the commotion and here, QL (lacking the sensitivity chip
) really behaved like a complete a**hole when he shouted from outside, berating YL for shutting people out and that her action could not bring MY back to life. Then, he took off with Chen Bi. While I do understand his real intention is to make her envious so that YL will fight to win him back, his timing here is completely off .
The following day, QL came looking for YL at Chang Chun Palace (here, I think Chen Bi reported to him that YL was missing and could not be found anywhere at Yanxi). When he was about to walk in, he saw YL crying and Fuheng was in the same room (this coincidence was planned by Chen Bi to create misunderstanding with QL). So, he left and went batshit psycho after seeing the two of them together and became even madder with jealousy when Chen Bi came to sell him stories about Fuheng and YL and their connection with the embroidery pattern of two dragonflies and lentil.
The bold part.....Are you referring to the confrontation between QL and YL in episode 55? Because after that scene, the two were not talking and YL left with Dowager Empress without ever seeing QL again.

It no doubt after all explanation about the history, I came to conclusion Consort Ling indeed the lucky one & the ultimate winner lol. Among all consorts/ concubines except Fuca, Consort Ling was loved dearly by Qianlong.
Born from the lowly Han status compare to all QL's women who were born from higher and good background, she rose to the highest ranking. I believed there must be a love story involved between QL and CL. First 10 years, she keep on granted new ranks despite of no child. Next 10 years, she bore 6 child's for QL. Been buried next to him as he wished to have her next to him in afterlife. So Yongqi, QL's fav son was raised by CL in history too? Seems like all related with CL were QL's favourite. At the end once again Yongyan was chose as his successor and personally make CL as his empress.
I always thought, the highest someone can go if you born from a humble lowly status probably Imperial Noble Concubine. That is why I believe there must be a love story involved if QL really gave her highly respect when she was alive and long after her death.
So Consort Gao also started as a maid. But I think she's a bit difference compare to CL because he married to QL when he was just a Prince not an Emperor and beside her father was an officer. So her background back up her.
Before I have always thought Ula Nara/ Consort Xian was the true love of QL but from reading on wiki and here too, I think although she was the longest serving empress for 16 years, but she was married to QL way long before that but no child. Only after she became Empress she have a 3 child in 4 yrs compare to CL, 6 child in 10 yrs. The chances of getting pregnant is higher if emperor spent more time with them. QL had high respect on her but love I am still having a mixture feeling and thought on that. If she was QL true love compare to Fuca and Ling, I doubt QL will treats her the way we read in history. She was treated to lowest it could be. He despised her without considered her contribution. At least there must be a love and pity on her left but until long after her death, QL didn't even moved her to be in the same tomb.QL didn't even regretted until he died lol.
I really wants to know more about Ling but her info is limited. Funny thing like one scene in drama when Consort Xian, the Ula Nara asked Ying Luo on how she keep maintain on receiving QL's love and attention.
I am also watching Ruyi but not invested, partly because they bend the history too much. Once you get invested in the story, you will start digging on history and once you discovered the real one is far, in fact opposite of what you have been made to believe, you will be extremely disappointed. I am lucky that I watch "Yanxi" first and really liking it.
There's a saying that you will hate someone deeply when that person is the one you loved the most (and that person betrayed you) but it's hard to see it that way between QL and Empress Xian. First, he never wanted to make her an Empress when Fuca died, only promoting her upon suggestion by Dowager Empress and even delaying her promotion. I read that the relationship was more bound by duty instead of passion and love. It was evident when QL promoted Consort Ling to Imperial Noble Consort, which as @Cedric mention above, the unspoken rule is that this position should not exist when the Empress is still around. Consort Ling was given that position before Xian's death. From there, we could perhaps guess, she is not so favoured by him or can I say, that promotion is a bit like him insulting her as an Empress, a way of him telling her who he prefered? I think not demoting her from her position (though the treatment reflected a demotion) is the last favour he could bring himself to give her.

So, I thought only Consort Ling who rosed from a maid to the highest rank consort. Now I know, Gao was pretty much the same.
Thanks for the enlightenment of why Consort Chun didn't but Consort Jia did made it in the main tomb together with QL. Even then, it feels weird that he left Plot no. 7 vacant. Was there no more high ranked consort after Consort Ling's death? Wondering maybe he intended to reserve Plot no. 3 for Xian (since she was a living Empress) but she offended him, thus he gave that plot to Consort Ling instead.
Another question, was Consort Ling really the one who raised 5th Prince Yongqi? And why was Yongyan being raised up by Consort Lu and not by her own birth mother?

She knew she was dying because there was a remaining silver needle finally reaching her lung and as Physician Ye said, at that point, nothing can be done anymore (8 needles managed to be extracted out years ago). MY explained to Chen Bi she did not want to marry Hailancha because she didn't want him to see her die and Chen Bi used some psychological influence, telling her that "as long as she is alive", she needs to marry Hailancha (referring to wedding preparations, family involvement etc). Then she pretentiously presented her a wedding gift which include the golden scissors that influenced her to stab herself.
Thanks @Cedric Ong We are so lucky to have you here. While I can understand and speak (rusty) mandarin, the understanding of dialogue is a bit tough given that they used ancient chinese. And hell, I can't read chinese (my chinese was so bad that I gave up after primary school).
Anyway, I read that Consort Chun is a gui fei and she was merited the "yi" title after her death. Yet, why was she not interred together with QL?

I read there a lot of scenes being censored that led to so many confusion (like whether QL did sleep with Er Qing or not, the affair between Er Qing and Fuheng's brother).
I also asked the same question, did YL get to find out that Er Qing's scheming to make it look (or did?) sleep with QL. QL only get to defend himself by telling YL that he was not guilty. He never get to explain his side of the story to her.

I posed the same question back few pages ago and I think @ChloeR has explained (according to the novel version).
SpoilerAccordingly, Er Qing (before her death) install the guilt on YL by saying that it's not only her who betrayed Fuca but YL did the same too, by becoming QL's consort. This refers to the conversation in Episode 27, when Er Qing suggested to Fuca to give YL to serve QL while Fuca was pregnant but YL swore off that she would never serve him. She said, even when all the women in the world wanted to become QL's women, she would never do so because she knows Fuca really loves QL. And becoming QL's woman is a betray to Fuca. Ofc, it turned out, YL did become QL's consort, his favorite some more and she eventually fallen for him. YL became wrecked with the guilt over her promise back then. To her, she has no reason to stay by QL's side (let alone love him) now that she had accomplished her mission by avenging Fuca's death. Thus, she unwillingly pushed him away.
Well, I can't claim accuracy on this but according to ChloeR, this is what transpired in the novel.
I honestly find this reason is weak because, YL knows well what a concubine's fate would be once she is no longer favoured by the Emperor (by pushing him away). The suffering won't only affect her but her retinues as well. And she is aware of the many enemies waiting to harm her.
IMO, YL said so because she was very angry with QL since Er Qing misled her to believe that there was a love affair between her and QL. Er Qing even claimed that QL fathered her child. She felt hurt by that revelation and by telling QL that she only made use of him is her way of getting back at him.
Anyway, noticed that the confirmation that Yingluo actually fallen in love with QL only arrived in episode 58 (verbalized by Ming Yue). LOL
And the same time, I find the meeting between the senior rank consorts (Shu, Jia, YL and Empress) to get rid of Chen Bi is funny. Throughout that period, all the people around YL (Fuheng, Empress Xian, Consort Shu) claimed how QL's favour towards Chen Bi surpassed the favours he showered on YL back then. What I find funny is except for Empress Xian, Ming Yue and perhaps Fuheng?, nobody actually knows why she fell out of his favour and the one that was truly crushed is not YL, but QL.

SpoilerYL was banished by QL to Yuan Ming Garden and to never ever step foot in Forbidden City after Empress Fuca's death. About 2 years after Fuca's passing, YL met Ming Yue again who has now become the lady in waiting to Consort Chun. Through MY, she learnt that Consort Chun schemed Prince Yongcong's death (that led to Fuca's suicide). YL initially intended to tell the Emperor directly but at that period, Consort Chun was his favorite consort and MY reminded her they have no one to back them up anymore. So, YL schemed her way. She staged the whole auspicious coincidences (the phoenix and the fish forming the word "longevity") and impressed, the Dowager asked her what she wanted and YL said she wanted to become her lady in waiting and return to Forbidden City. (Cue... this is YL playing mind games on QL)
QL objected because he does not trust YL and he would not want her by his mother's side and so, he made her his Da-Ying (the lowest rank concubine) but Dowager likes her so much that she said YL at least, deserved the title of a Gui-Ren (2 ranks above Da-Ying).
From this scene and that conversation with Yuan Chun Wang, the points here are :
1) YL needs to be QL's consort and established her own influence because as MY said, they don't have anyone to back them up ever since Fuca's death. Becoming his consort, is a way to protect herself and later on, she worked very hard to earn QL's favour so that she can level up with Consort Chun to avenge Empress Fuca's death.
2) Also, she needs to save MY knowing that she was put on slow death by Consort Chun (she planted needles in her body since MY already discovered her part in Prince Yongcong's death). When YL was promoted to a gui-ren, she also asked the Dowager Empress to get Consort Chun to give MY as her lady in-waiting which QL agreed to.
3) Interestingly, according to YCW's understanding, QL made YL his concubine because he does not trust her, knowing her scheming which may involve the Dowager (should she became her lady in waiting) and so, he made her his Da-Ying to keep a watchful eye on her. To QL, it is safer to have YL by his side than her by the Dowager's side. IMO, this is only partially true because he actually wanted her since a long time ago (predated to when Fuca was still alive). This is evident when he asked Hailanca to explain on YL's tricks in staging the auspicious events. When explaining to QL, Hailanca referred YL as "Ms. Ying Luo" so before he left, QL reminded him that Ying Luo is now his consort and he should hereon properly address her by her honorary title that is "Wei Gui-ren". Suffice to say, he acknowledged that she is indeed his from that moment on.
On the actual historical parts, I will leave it to @Cedric Ong to explain.

SpoilerHe told her that Empress Fuca said that he is attracted to Yingluo (note here that QL thought he was simply attracted to her). YL was still heartbroken by Fuheng and not even the slightest bit interested in QL ofc rejected him - giving him so many excuses that she is not pretty enough, unruly and she only wanted to serve Empress Fuca.
Her rejection thrilled him even more and he funnily said that he is bored of beautiful, well mannered women and thought that his harem should comprise of a woman like Yingluo - difficult to handle (this words will come back haunting him for sure. LOL). He said he found her disobedience interesting.
QL knew YL did not want to be his concubine but like he said, whether she is willing or not, he still need to have her. He also said that he never have to force any woman before and that he finds his persistent vs her refusal very exciting. Yingluo realized at this point that "the chase" is the one that excites QL.
So she tricked him by telling him that she had been planning to become his concubine and knowing that she is not pretty enough, she tried to gain his attention by being different/disobedience. She said that she is willing to serve him but he needs to make her his consort. QL came to the conclusion that YL was being mercenary (using him to upgrade her status) and that was why he let her go because he hated vile scheming woman as how YL made him to think of her. He told YL that she could return to serve Empress Fuca but don't even dream of ever getting together with him.
It has always been mind and psychological game between these two.
On why the Empress refused to meet her....
Spoilershe could not walk after waking up from her coma. She feels that she will cause so much trouble to YL to have a disabled master like her. She also feels guilty and useless that YL had to be involved in so many palace's tricks and machinations because she is unable to protect herself.

It definitely helps by understanding the dialogue itself. Like how QL pretentiously asked Fuheng about hearing him visiting Dowager Empress in Yuan Ming Garden (upon returning from the war) but actually intending to dig on YL. Fuheng got the cue and told QL he visited YL instead and how he told her about Chen Bi and within 3 days, YL packed and returned to Forbidden City. QL was delighted to hear this (though he tried to appear nonchalant. QL's strategy to get YL to return works) and he paid her a visit that night.
According to the timeline, it took roughly 3 months for YL to bring down Chen Bi. Cos she was revealed to be 3 months pregnant and she spent the night with QL shortly after her return to the palace. QL was being an a**hole during that 3 months, though YL clarified on the anti-pregnancy broth, he still holds the grudge simply because he was adamant for her to admit that she loves him as how he believes it to be.

They do look similar though. Lol. I googled on Consort Rong aka The Fragrance Consort and found two recorded versions of her. The Chinese and her own native versions with contrasting stories.
Yes, can hardly rank their beauties. The fact that Fuca was played by the beautiful Qin Lan and therefore, I find her the prettiest of all. Ofc, in the drama, it is Chen Bi whom is deemed the prettiest though the actress herself is just average looking.
When i watch this drama and at the same time doing some historical connection, I mainly watch for the entertainment and fictional element of it otherwise it would spoil my viewing experience. In history, he loves Fuca the most but the story can be fictionalised as in Yanxi and Ruyi. Whatever that is, it's just for entertainment purpose.

My point of mentioning beauty is because everyone in the drama raved about Chen Bi's beauty and Ying Luo asked for a comparison with Consort Gao (of all his wives) which made me think that the beauty ranking is as such.
If ones look deeply into the timeline, Chen Bi's rapid rise in rank from "gui ren" to "pin" is more or less the same time span taken by Ying Luo which is 3 months.
And interestingly, despite Empress Xian knew how big the momentum of YL's fell from QL's good grace and her long 3yrs absence, she still think that YL is the only one capable to bring down Chen Bi (even when Empress Xian bragged on how Chen Bi is greater than YL). Also, I am amazed at how fast YL took her down, referencing on the timeline since she agreed to join forces with Empress Xian to finally revealed to be pregnant with QL's baby.

But do note in history...there is no name of Chen Bi. In records for palace ladies, they never wrote their names....only their surnames and consort "label".

Thanks. Yes, I am aware that Chen Bi is strictly fictional though loosely based on one of Qianlong's consorts (I think the one of Uyghur descent). Even Empress Fuca's personal name never recorded.
Anyway, I wonder why she is his only consort that QL gave a nickname to. I agree that her nickname feels like an illusion. BTW, i find that of all QL's wives, Empress Fuca is the most beautiful though I think in the drama, it was implied that Chen Bi is the prettiest and coming in second is Consort Gao since YL asked Empress Xian if Chen Bi is even more beautiful than Consort Gao.
And with regards to QL, I tend to read his inner feeling by reading the reaction on Eunuch Li Yu's face.

Just some random questions...
Qianlong gave the title "Ling" to Yingluo and as described by Consort Yu, she must be as good as a jade for him to give her that title.
So I am curious what does "Shun" means and why does he named her "Chen Bi"?
Also, when Fuheng went to Yuan Ming Garden to persuade Yingluo to return to Forbidden City, he said that during those 3 months, QL never once thought of YL as he was enthralled by Chen Bi. That's not really the case I think.

I happened to like two drama couples with large age gap this year. NY and WJY happened to have very sexy chemistry. It was esp evident when their characters flirted even during the final moment in ep 70 where they were draped in imperial attire.
Not likely they will have a happy ending in TBOHL since he played the councillor while WJY will play the wife of the King of Qin. If to follow history, she was his concubine who he gave to the prince of Qin. Loveline is still possible i think.

Only YL capable to play the mind game with QL.
I think his exaggeration on his doting on CS is his attempt to make YL jealous and hint to her to fight for him. At the same time, he kept digging about YL through CS but YL is not stupid either to allow QL to have easy access on her mind and heart as well. This is where she prevailed cos unlike the rest of his women, she is the only one who played push and pull with him, thus challenging him.
Talking about hinting to YL to fight for him...It seems pretty clear that QL still believe that he has a place in YL's heart even when she crushed him in episode 55. To me, his doting on CS is superficial only. What kind of man actually ask about another woman if he really love that woman?
Came to think of it, of all his women, Empress Fuca has the most simplest unmotivated love towards QL. And QL really eating his words with regards to YL. As he said in episode 37, he thought harem should have a woman with different character like YL whom is difficult to handle, a quality he finds interesting. She certainly gave him a hard time. Lol.

This drama requires viewers to do lots of mental exercise, like every single action has a double meaning. One minute you think it is that way, another minute the character proven how stupid you were for thinking so straight-forwardly.
It's hard to take side when comes to QL and YL relationship. I do understand why he still had personal grudge on YL even after they slept together in ep59. After all, he was led to believe (which she confirmed) that she could entertained him even no feelings involved. He must have thought that she toyed with his feelings again.
And then, I was also mad as hell with how QL treated YL esp rubbing to her face on how he doted on Consort Shun and used words to hurt her. I can't forgive him when he was being insensitive towards YL after Ming Yue's death. Even when he intended to hurt YL by showing off with Consort Shun, the timing was off. I mean, unlike Fuheng, his love is kinda selfish but then again, he is an Emperor and brought up that way.
In a way, I still think YL and QL match each other. Only they can keep each other on their toes.

While I do understand his real intention is to make her envious so that YL will fight to win him back, his timing here is completely off

This question is funny. I think it's more of to make QL happy. Funny facts about LY:
1) He initially disliked YL because she was the one who got him to receive 30 beatings for failing to find the "tree scratching maid".
2) He claimed to understand QL the most but it was De Sheng who first traced QL's interest in YL.
3) LY was the one proposing to QL to kill YL when dealing with the matters of Prince Hongzhou.
