yeah, iverson in denver should be interesting. the 2 leading scorers in the nba are on the same team. it shouldn't be too crazy for now since carmelo's gonna be gone for about 14 more games but when he comes back is when it'll get crazy.

some questions i'm contemplating: who's going to be the leader of the team and who's gonna defer to who? who'll be the leading scorer at the end of the season?

one's gonna suffer. carmelo is steppin into the stardom and no way he's gonna let AI be in his way, though he'll pay much respect to AI. as for AI, he isnt going to step down either, he'll still demand his shot

Iverson will have quite the role during the suspensions for Carmelo and JR Smith. Can't say the same when the suspensions are over, but who knows. It'll be interesting to see where/if the ballhogging will occur and whose stats may drop.

Some other people are complaining about the two 2007 first round draft picks being dealt away... I don't see that as much as a problem. How much younger do the Nuggets need to get? Andre Miller and Joe Smith are already 30... Not very likely the Nuggets would be in first 10 teams to draft anyway. I don't even see Iverson ending his career with the Nuggets anyway

Scenario if the trade never happened:

Carmelo and JR Smith are suspended for a number of games, Nuggets somehow go on losing slide which hurts them from making the playoffs or rank themselves where they want to be ranked. Nuggets get angry, disappointed fans and lose revenue. By doing so poorly at this season's end, the Nuggets have better chances in the draft lottery, then hope to build a young dynasty in the future using LUCK to do so...

OR

Get an experienced talented superstar player who can lead the team to victory with the other guys suspended, still win the remaining games and stay in the playoff race and win a championship (or at least advance far into the playoffs) with SKILL. Increase jersey sales and other team merchandise, impressed fans coming to games, and have increased revenue?

Dealing the 1st round draft picks really won't hurt the Nuggets that badly.

Their picks are currently at #21 and #27 according to NBADraft.net. And this year's draft won't be that deep imo.

The draft picks were pretty much giveaways. Unless the Nuggets spiral down to the bottom of the NBA, Denver got the better side of the deal.

Sixers will probably take the lottery, grab Oden and possibly steal and or trade the Nugs picks.

Smith's contract is done this year afaik, so thats capspace freed up.

Still though; 100 shots split between Smith, AI and Melo.

Nate was actually the first guy to inflame the situation. One could argue that if nate hadn't started to go mano y mano with Smith, the situation wouldn't have escalated in the FIRST place, and the only thing that woulda happened is that JR and Collins would have been yapping back and forth until their "smarter" teamates would have pulled them apart.

*edit

here's the youtube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUD1Bjv2-S4

as you can see, shawty nate robinson throws the first punch. It misses, but he's clearly going for JR's head.

wouldn't call that a punch... If you really want to get technical, you could say it was Smith's fault for jawing off and not letting the refs handle it, Karl's fault in the first place for leaving those starters in, Isaiah's fault for perhaps calling for a hard foul, the Knicks's fault for sucking so much at home.

It was Smith, who escalated things more and charged Nate, ending up on his back in the stands (hahaha... owned. sorry that was immature.) If you look, at first Nate was trying to hold Smith back from collins, until either he got frustrated and Smith said something which caused him to get more aggressive.

There's a lot of grey area, but I don't think you can say Nate Robinson was more responsible than Smith for the brawl, and in no way was he as bad as Carmelo either.

please man, stop being a Knicks apologist. Clearly Nate was swinging at JR, just so happens that as he was doing so, he was pushed back. Melo and Nate essentially did the same thing, tried to take a shot and escalated the situation. The only difference is that Melo connected and Nate whiffed. Not to mention it was Nate who tackled JR Smith into the first row of fans, putting them in danger as well. Puhlese Isiah, if you don't want to get blown out, play some friggen D.

yeah, that's what i hear. because of the stellar freshman class, the good seniors and juniors should be available with the two picks. plus, you really odn't know where those two picks may end up. waht if denver just sucks and never makes the playoff. that's your second lottery pick

Clearly? Nate Robinson's "swing" isn't anywhere near what Carmelo's sucker punch was. And who charged who? JR came head on full speed at Nate, what's he supposed to do, just get tackled? He adjusted and put JR Smith down, but it wouldn't have gone into the stands if JR Smith hadn't charged him.
