AIM freezing with Windows 7

Any solution?
Hi,

I just got new computer, Dell Studio XPS, with Windows 7, 64-bit, and after I installed the latest AIM 7.2.6.1, when I try to IM someone, it freezes. When I try to click on the message, it gives me message that "it's not responding" and whether I want to "close the program" or "wait for the program to respond".

I thought it might be McAfee blocking but my McAfee has full access for AIM so it's not that. I tried uninstalling and installing and it still freezes. In fact, when I tried to watch drama on my GOM player and I forward alot, it also freezes the program.

I had Windows 7 before the Studio XPS and AIM work before.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you so much.

I found a solution for Aim 6 at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums...17-4135034dddd4

just fixed mine by doing the following: Rename/delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\VS7DEBUG\pdm.dll

This is a debugging tool for javascript in IE, which apparently leads to this crash. I renamed mine pdm.old

I have Aim 6 with Windows 7 64 bit beta as well.

Maybe AIM does not run very well on 64Bit Operating Systems. I think some programs (mostly drivers for hardware) made for 32bit does not work very good on 64bit version of Windows.

You can try running Windows update and see if it fixs the problem of freezing.

I recommend http://www.pidgin.im/ if you can't get AIM to work, and you need to talk to your aim friends.

I saw this when I was looking for solution but couldn't find VS7DEBUG\pdm.dll in my computer. I did search and couldn't find VS7DEBUG. Is it possible that my computer doesn't have it?

And I'll try your other solution. Thank you.

You can try pasting "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\VS7Debug\" in your Windows Explorer/My computer address bar and manually search for pdm.dll I think if you do not have the file then it is probably not the files fault since according to the guys instruction

This blog post might help : http://www.techspot.com/blog/677/pidgin-ai.../#comment-43627

I just followed the blog. and added some screen shots to make the blog easier to follow. I can connect to AIM fine.

1. On the top menu click on Accounts

2. Modify your AIM or ICQ account

3. On the Advanced tab, untick the ‘Use clientLogin/Use SSL’ checkbox

My advanced tab for my aim account.

4. Save and you’re done

Hope this helps!
