Wonder Girls #1 on Melon Daily Chart for 19 days, 2nd longest run in 2011

Group Wonder Girls set a record as soon as they made a comeback. Just after 3 weeks of coming back into the limelight, they have set a record for the 2nd longest run in the 1st place in 2011.

The title song of the Wonder Girls’ 2nd full album, ‘Be My Baby’ was revealed online on November 7th, and through the 27th, it has taken the 1st place on the daily chart 19th times per the management company JYP Entertainment.

The Wonder Girls’ record is topped only by Leessang’s ‘Turned Off the TV’ which holds the record for the year at 25 days. Melon is the largest online music site in Korea, so it’s easy to guess how popular ‘Be My Baby’ is.

The 3rd record goes to both IU’s ‘Someday’ and 2NE1′s ‘Don’t Cry’ as they both took the 1st place for 18 days. The 5th place goes to ‘Baramnatseo’ by GG formed by Big Bang’s G-Dragon and Park Myung Soo presented through MBC’s ‘Infinity Challenge – West Coast Highway Gayo Festival’.

PART 2 of WONDER WORLD ALBUM REVIEW from around the internet...world?

“Stop!” literally made me stop. This track is hot, even though it’s another dance number. You can hear some 80’s club elements but its also modern pop. The song’s about being tired of someone’s suffocating love towards you, and also if you believe you’re undeserving of their feelings. Their singing on this track sounds so smooth and tasteful, almost like Blondie. It’s another number that will be blasting on my stereo for the coming weeks.

You can’t mention K-Pop without mentioning the Wonder Girls.

Although the group have a rather small back catalog compared to their contemporaries, they enjoy an iconic status in Korea akin to Britney Spears in the States, and it’s afforded them the luxury of relocating from Korea to America without becoming forgotten back home. Just like Britney, who helped usher in a new wave of female pop soloists in the late nineties, the Wonder Girls were responsible for starting the Korean girl group boom that still thrives to this day, and despite the fact that up until now they’d only released one new song in the space of two years, they’re still one of the country’s most loved and successful acts.

As far as pop albums go, Wonder World is pretty darn incredible, but it’s also so much more than that — this is a record that rebels against the standards of K-Pop and progress Korean girl groups to a new level.

K-Pop is more of a singles based industry than an albums one, with EPs and singles constituting the bulk of most artists’ releases, while ‘full-length’ albums often comprise of about five tracks with pointless instrumentals, remixes, and interludes carelessly thrown on top. And the times that you do get a legitimate full-length release, half of it usually ends up being filler. Wonder World, on the other hand, is a real record in every sense of the term, with eleven high-quality songs that make for an un-skippable listen.

Wonder World is a glorious explosion of East meets West, taking the best bits from both cultures to create a remarkably slick and trendy collection of A-grade power-pop that’s so tight and precise it puts recent releases from the likes of Girls’ Generation to Lady GaGa to shame.

Wonder World is the combination of everything the Wonder Girls have learned in both America and Korea. They’ve gained invaluable experience and wisdom during their US adventures, which has helped them create the type of album that their top-tier contemporaries like 2NE1, KARA, and Girls’ Generation simply could not produce. Along with the Brown Eyed Girls’ Sixth Sense, Wonder World raises the bar of what Korean idol groups are capable of, and re-establishes the Wonder Girls as the top pop girl group in the game.

Give me a moment to pop my eyes back into their sockets, pick my jaw off the floor, and wash my pants. Like, is this album actually happening right now? If I didn’t know any better I’d say the level of awesome in “Wonder World” is almost unreal. Yet here it is in all its glory, slaughtering the competition and serving it for dinner.

Furthermore, the songs on “Wonder World” are placed in such a way that you can’t help but not skip a track. Y’all know I’m a hard-a** b**** about cohesion and strong track lists (for good reason), so I’m glad to hear a full album that transitions so effortlessly and with such strong momentum. It proves my point that song placement is everything when it comes to the success of a pop album.

And when those songs happen to be so goddamn fierce, forget about it.

thanks to desiderata for all the review's compilation. I think we can compile all that and send it to WG in hardcopy so that they will know their hardwork are appreciated by fans and non-fans. Reading all the review really make me smile (I'm just someone who support them) what's more if it's WG, the one who stay up late recording, practicing and worrying whether this album can meet fans/others expectation or not.

i never thought miryo brown eyed girls used to teach yoobin...she is great and i really love to see them perform...

regarding the golden disk award...eventho jype's artists are known not that good in album sales...it is not possible to make wonder girls a strong competitor among those nominees...after seeing how other fc are so hyper supporting their artist it encourages me to double,tripple to support my wonder girls as well.

Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2011 - November Week 4

We have a new No. 1 song this week as Wonder Girls' "Be My Baby" moves up six spots to the top. They have an impressive score of 952 points in just its second week on the chart. In the meantime, WG also unseated three time champion SNSD's "The Boys" from the top. WG and SNSD are probably the two most well known K-pop girl groups internationally and it is no surprise that they came in first and second on the chart this week.  November has always been a good month for Wonder Girls - their previous classic hits "Tell Me" and "Nobody" were also No. 1 songs in November.

The female dominance on the chart continues as Wonder Girls become the eleventh different girl groups to hit the top spot of our chart this year, joining Secret (twice), 4minute, f(x), T-Ara, miss A, Sistar, Davichi,Kara, Brown Eyed Girls, and SNSD.  Don't be surprised to see many of these groups in the top 10 of our year end chart, which we will announced next month.

Wonder Girls Sohee, a parade of cute facial expressions

Group Wonder Girls held fan signing in Seoul to help promote their new album.

On November 26th, the Wonder Girls were at the Times Square Atrium Circular Stage in Seoul.

Sohee wore a knit layered with a classy camel coat paired with an equally classy pair of boots showing off her version of tastefully done bottomless fashion that showed off her beautiful legs.

For the delight of the fans, there was a collection of several shots of Sohee making various cute faces.

Netizens commented, “Mandoo Sohee is the cutest”, “I love it when she has that big smile”, and “I kind of love how she’s shooting a look to her side. Wonder who she’s looking at”.

Sure providing a long list full of reviews from Kpop fan BLOGGERS looks appealing, until you realize that 1. those blogs say the same things about multiple albums, and 2. who cares? they're bloggers.

And yes they are not rollingstone reviews, not even close.

They are reviews from your average radio listening consumer. Cool.

Not only that but their reviews for many other albums look strangely similar.

Regardless WG sales speak for themselves. Singles artist = people that sell well digitally. (example: rihanna and her various number one HITS) I really wonder how long one can last relying on that method though, seems to work for her. But then again her physical sales are impressive aswell because of her fanbase, digitally she owns though.

People that can sell well physically are rare these days, even in Japan and America. It's nice to belong to such a group if you do sell well physically like people like Adele, Mariah Carey, and Lady gaga still do.

Completely agree with this, however it works both ways. No need to attack each other just because of difference of opinion.

Posts with various views are very welcome, but try not to insinuate anything... like telling people they are conforming to a cult. Of course that is going to cause a stir. Argue your point, but leave each other alone.

It's too bad crying over being called cult-like while calling anyone that doesn't follow the "group" like the other mod that posted, a "troll" among other things is sorta silly.

You teach others how to treat you at the end of the day.

Oh and I agree that it goes both ways.

I want to suggest something. When I went through the pointing system of the KBS music bank, the pointing system seems utterly unfair to our girls. It seems the competition was already fixed.

I will explain why our girls had lost. Let's see the scoring table.

KBS, however, from last week, started to have S**** special everyday one hour. KBS made that program by themselves and counted as an measure by themselves. The result was about 1400 point difference which played critical role to win. Because they themselves made the program, it shall not be the measure to decide the winner. This means they can fix anybody as the winner. It seem outrageously unfair. I am here to whine about the lost. I am saying we shall complain about. In order to change something, it starts with complaining. Believe me, when people start complaining, they will respond one way or the other.

Join the foreigner membership and make a complain.

Now that is cute, sorry but there is nothing unfair about KBS like every single other broadcasting station seeking out the most popular girl group in Korea for shows to up their ratings, and gain new watchers. It's only logical. That group promotes more in Korea, there are no special rules for groups that CHOOSE to promote more in another country.

I'm sure they have a higher broadcasting score on KBS (KOREA) than other artist that promote heavily in Japan the majority of the year.

It's about time these music shows start to cater to the groups that actually promote in their country, and help the Korean economy.

What's unfair is the music shows that downed the % of physical album sales for wins because every single other girl group lacks majorly there compared to one that does extremely well in that area. Now that is unfair because it's literally done to help the other groups that don't sell half as well win, lol.

It also makes the other groups not look so great when they need the categories lessened to help them win, I mean really? Why not just work on building a fan base and upping your sales instead? lol

But feel free to complain, just keep in mind that the bigger fan base can do the same as well.
