@qoxie LOL about Serena from Indonesia. The media misspelled write her name. I'm from Indonesia and her name is Sherina not Serena sweatingbullets.gif

But it' s sounds cute about the misspelled name. Sherina is one of the famous and talented singer from Indonesia (she has more than one million followers in her twitter acc). Anyway I follow Sherina in her twitter. She said some magazines reported that the charity (Artistes 311 Love Beyond Borders) will including Kenny G and Will Smith. She also said Jackie Chan mention to her that Will Smith will come along to the charity. But she had no idea if Will Smith will be in the stage or not with other artist.

Whoaaa if Will Smith are coming to the stage with the Wonder Girls it's totally awesomewub.gif And the girls should be very happy meet the famous actor like him.

lovepapupi -- Ah. No wonder it was futile trying to google for info about her. I ended up off-tangent too: thought SERENA might have been a pop group. (lol)

So the connection is Jackie Chan? I was wondering how the HK side had reached out to the foreign participants, even though they are extensively networked,

Eric Tsang had inferred that the organizers are already working on a tight deadline, so no time to coordinate schedules.

Here are a few more translated articles.

The 1st one parallels what I am seeing in Naver Search today: JYP is also coming along with WG.

The 'I Love Asia' song is his baby, anyway.

NB. The Chinese blog translation failed to credit or link to the original Korea article.

Korean, Japanese stars to join Hong Kong's '311 Candlelight Vigil' campaign for disaster relief

Sing Pao 2011-03-31 (Thursday)

Hong Kong's entertainment industry is holding a 311 Candlelight Vigil on April 1 to mourn the Japanese quake casualties & to help rally the survivors. Eric Tsang, one of the organizers, disclosed at the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards press conference yesterday that they have already applied for Victoria Park to be the venue & are about to set up the sound stage. He said Japan has agreed to send well-known enka singer Sen Masao, Masatoshi Nakamura & girlgroup AKB48; Indonesia's SHERINA & Korea's WONDERGIRLS are also coming. Previously, WG had participated in the 'I Love Asia' recording to aid the Sichuan quake victims.

The emcees for the night are Eric Tsang, Agnes Chan, Carol Cheng, Lawrence Cheng & Sylvia Chang. Eric Tsang said that they have already sent requests to many celebrities to record video messages. Among them are Tony Leung Chiu-wai who is currently in Beijing, & Kelly Chen who has agreed to contribute a clip in support. Eric Tsang said that this fundraiser will have significantly less music segments onstage. To fill in the 3-hour show, they will air scenes of the calamity & focus more on celebrity contributions & interactions. Many singers will get to sing only as part of an ensemble, & the selected songs will correspond more with the event's theme as well. Due to limited time, it remains undecided whether some segments can be inserted into the program. The show will take up Victoria Park's 3 football fields, which can accommodate an estimated 20,000 crowd. A separate water-themed memorial area will also be erected to let the public write messages or lay flowers for the dead. In addition, the organizers have also set up 220 donation hotlines. Entrance fee is HKD 20.

AKB48, WG coming to Hong Kong to help charity drive

The Sun (HK) 2011-03-31

A fundraiser event for the Japan earthquake will be held tomorrow night. Japanese girlgroup AKB48, Korean girlgroup WONDERGIRLS & Indonesian singer SHERINA are all coming to Hong Kong to lend support. Masahiko 'Matchy' Kondo, Tony Leung Chiu-wai & Kelly Chen will also make video appeals for donations.

Hong Kong's entertainment industry is embarking on a 'Love Beyond Borders 311 Candlelight Vigil' campaign tomorrow night. The organizers have invited popular Japanese girlgroup AKB48 members Ami Maeda, Ayaka Umeda & Sakiko Matsui; old-school singer Masatoshi Nakamura; prominent enka singer Sen Masao & others to join in at Hong Kong. Korean girlgroup WONDERGIRLS & Indonesian singer SERENA are also coming to lend support. Even former local star Agnes Chan, who migrated to Japan long ago, will join Eric Tsang, Carol Cheng, Lawrence Cheng, Sylvia Chang & Judy Ongg as emcees for the evening.

Matchy lends a hand too

Some celebrities are unable to make an appearance, but will still support in other ways. Among them, former Eighties-era popular Japanese idol Masahiko 'Matchy' Kondo is contributing a video message. Tony Leung Chiu-wai is currently in Beijing for work, & the organizers are sending someone over to film a short clip. As well, Kelly Chen has already recorded another video. They are all done to help rally the Japanese victims!

Eric Tsang, one of the event organizers, said while announcing the fundraiser yesterday: "WONDERGIRLS was previously part of the 'I Love Asia' theme song for the Sichuan earthquake. They wanted to come to Hong Kong to sing it specially for the Japanese victims! SHERINA had gone through the tsunami experience in Indonesia. She wanted to come here to share the post-traumatic feelings too!" He said he hopes more celebrity video appeals & documented segments of the disasters can be aired during the 3-hour telethon: "This may be one of our smallest performer lineups for a fundraiser show! The event will take place across Victoria Park's 3 football fields, which can accommodate an estimated 20,000 crowd. There will be a water-themed memorial area erected at the venue, where the public can write encouraging messages & light some candles!" Event attendees will be asked to donate HKD 20 or more. The organizers are also setting up 220 donation hotlines, of which 20 will be serviced in Japanese.

TEAM A holds a moment of silence before their concert

Elsewhere, AKB48's Akihabara Theatre was re-opened the other day. AKB48's former Atsuko Maeda-led TEAM A held a mini-concert & led the 250 fans to observe a minute of silence. The lights were also dimmed down during the show in meeting with the energy-saving directive.

HKD 20 entrance fee

'Love Beyond Borders 311 Candlelight Vigil'

Venue: Victoria Park football fields numbers 1, 2 & 3.

Date: April 1 (Friday)

Time: 7pm to 10pm

Thank you for a lot articles mention the girls Qoxie. I love how the media coverage about them.

Yes the connection is Jackie Chan. I read from her management twitter that Sherina was invited by Jackie himself over the phone. He called her to take part of the charity and share her stories about tsunami in Indonesia. Because Jackie is one of the charity initiator and be friends with J.Y. Park, I think that the Wonder Girls is invited by Jackie himself too (via J.Y. Park to reach them).

I was wondering too how the HK side had reached out to the foreign participants. But I think they just choose the famous one from each country in asia. So they prefer the Wonder Girls to represent Korea. Jackie has a lot connection in entertainment industry for sure.

Here is the HK fundraiser's official YT channel:

http://www.youtube.c...artistes311#g/u

No WG sighting yet but they have already uploaded 30 clips in one day, inc. the theme song MV (in Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese), BTS scenes & assorted celebrity messages.

BTW The Straits Times here is using 'Succumb Not To Sorrow' as the English song title. In Chinese, it's 不要输给心痛.

I guess this will be the token name unless there is a change.

I think WG has landed in HK. There were 3 possible flights just now (a couple at 10:30pm & the other at 11pm).

WGHK (HK Wonderful Club) has a couple of new threads touting airport fanpics (25 in all), but they are posted in a private gallery. Inaccessible to me, despite my owning active account.

Some WFs are so stingy....

Thanks. I am hoping to see repostings at WGTW too, but not all would get transferred over.

I remember katyhwang also has access to WGHK's gallery, but she takes out only the Sunye stuff.

Relief force WONDERGIRLS arrives; Mag Lam picked to sing 'Story of Oshin' with Judy Ongg

Oriental Daily 2011-04-01

Japan-based music doyenne Judy Ongg will be in Hong Kong tonight for the Japan quake fundraiser. It is considered a special honor to sing with such an icon. From among the many newbie singers, Mag Lam was the 'handpicked' choice which instantly elevated her as having "passed muster!"

Tonight's 'Love Beyond Borders 311 Candlelight Vigil' will see a thong of entertainment celebrities. Among them, Judy Ongg & Agnes Chan are in the limelight due to their Japanese resumes. Anyone who gets to sing with either of the 2 doyennes can be regarded as having "passed muster". New-generation singers Sherman Chung, GEM & Ivana Wong are involved in the fundraiser, but the opportunity will go to TVB/EEG upstart Mag 'The Voice' Lam. Reportedly, Miriam Yeung will also join her to duet with doyenne Judy Ongg on the latter's signature 'Story of Oshin' theme song.

[skipped next paragraph.]

Masatoshi Nakamura is deeply distressed

Various Japanese, Korean & Taiwanese celebrity participants of the fundraiser began arriving in Hong Kong yesterday. They include Masatoshi Nakamura & Sen Masao, whose hometowns in the Miyagi & Iwate prefectures were seriously damaged. They looked visibly heartbroken as a result. The duo had touched down at around 7pm. Veteran actor Paul Chun, daughter Lesley Chiang & [actor] Hayama Go were at the airport to receive them & to serve as interpreters. Masatoshi Nakamura said his family in Miyagi is safe, but he could not reach many of his friends. Sen Masao said his country is suffering a great crisis & needs everyone's help, & had thus decided to participate in the event.

Popular Korean girlgroup WONDERGIRLS (WG) reached Hong Komg at around 6pm. The quintet was not wearing makeup but had sunglasses & spectacles on. They appeared very "normal". Taiwanese singer Sky Wu landed at around 4pm. He said Jackie Chan had invited him; he will duet with Jonathan Lee on 'True Hero'.

Earlier, popular Hallyu actor Kim Jae Wook & his 3 WALRUS bandmates hit town at lunchtime. About 20 fans were waiting at the airport. Escorted out by bodyguards, Kim Jae Wook courteously accepted gifts & handshakes from the fans. They are holding their 1st fanmeet in Hong Kong tomorrow.

by Kingpolo on March 31, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Back in February, the Wonder Girls attended Jeremy Scott’s exclusive show for Fashion Week, which was recorded through Fashion TV.

That footage was aired on March 31st, and through it, fans can see the Wonder Girls comment about a variety of things using their advanced English skills!

They began, “Hello Fashion TV, we are the Wonder Girls!“ Yoobin continued, “We are at the Jeremy Scott new season show [sic], so we’re so excited – we can’t wait to see his new clothes.”

Yenny then complimented, “He’s very creative and brave. We are always inspired by all of his work. We are very excited.”

Sunye followed up, “Yeah, sometimes when we get on stage, we put on Jeremy Scott clothes on sometimes [sic], so we really love his clothes.”

Hye Rim concluded, “This is basically my favorite outfit out of Jeremy Scott’s show because it has such cute buttons, and it’s so colorful and so creative. I just love it.”
