Totally safe and 100% legit, all you have to do is install, and for any file you want, right click it and chooes to edit the extension.
Guest ehytee7
zamzar.com it's an online converter. i use that all the time to convert youtube videos or even videos i've downloaded. it sends the converted file in your email. sometimes it takes a snap to get it to your inbox, sometimes more than an hour. really good though

awdark
You can also use SUPER, it can basically convert things to any format. But like the above site is definitely convenient for a small file
mommie Alice
The reason I'm converting from .flv to .avi is I'm burning the clip to DVD and .flv clips won't burn to DVD. My sister was on Korean news and I want to burn that clip for her on the DVD. Different question. Is there program or way to download news clip to .avi file? http://www.kbs-america.com/vod/details.aspx?vid=763 Thank you.
achu
there is a site called filsh.net although the site is in german, i think its pretty obvious how to use the site. its simple. put in your youtube URL for example. i think it gets scanned (very quick, dont worry) then it lists out all the specs you want for the video. output container: mpg, avi, etc. bitrates, dimensions if i recall correctly. after you set it. it sets it up or something, then you get the download link. nice and simple. and very quick actually
