  1. Just finished ep 24.

JE showed concern for the gal to wear more in the cold day. The same concern was shown to Seuri ... I would want to think JE is a person who has morals. His bro in law describes him as flawless too. When he first gave SR the shoes, he wasnt expecting  his love or trying to seduce her in any way.

Chemistry of JE and HK is to the max. Hospital scene was daebak.

... But the hero for me in Ep 24 is BS. He really puts HK's interest above himself. Came clean and even fault himself for wasting 4 years of her time when he was worth every applaud in helping HK to heal.

Thanks for the picture! Finally another ship to look out for. Initially I thought this guy was Yeon Woo-Jin! The kiddo is so honestly funny.

Hopefully HK and YK quickly meet up so that YK can quickly spread her contagious super-nice-happy-go-lucky personality  to HK.

Also looking forward to mummy-yk-HK reunion. Poor mummy. Have 2 kids. Minus HK. Have 2 (yk plus kiddo). Back to having 2 daughters again. HK must have another kid again.  That would be perfect!

OK I must now confeas that I am back to watching Dae Jang  Geum to see Mr JE again. This man who acknowledge his immaturity to his mum at 40 plus is noteworthy. As long as he know his mistakes and dont avoid problem's but marriage.. I am all set for second chances! After all,  it takes a lot to build a marriage. If it's so easy... there wouldn't be so many divorce cases in this world.

  3. SR ran away at the scene of crime. Not those out of fear situation. Initially she was shock... And then deep in thoughts... And then she just ran away. Her character is flawed. Period. To go to such extreme in order to have what she wants, she is gone. No moral compass. I wonder if the old HK will do the same? Or she will call for ambulance at least if it was SR?

Hk is back. She is really good in acting! Even just uttering those few words in the hosp bed.... I can feel the coldness. Not as gentle ... Filled w pain and denial. Its going to be a hard time for both JE and HK, and esp for HK to recall all the pains and hurts,

Seeing that it harms HK when he didnt tell the truth and deciding to acknowledge her as HK, BS is afterall a good man. If the guard was there and HK was stabbed anyway, releasing information and truth earlier may not help to protect as much. ?

  4. The four years JE left ti be with SR were very emotionally  and critical period for HK. Did he even bother to know what happened to her? Even after 4yrs, back and looking all fresh and happy, he merely addressed her as 'that woman'? A passing curiosity just because he chanced on someone who looked exactly as HK?

He even prepared a home for SR and brought her to his home to introduce to the family. Brushed off YK2 few times UNTIL he saw that HK is infact having a happy life with a new family...how close she was with BS and the kids.

I don't like JE.. He is trash!

Agree that. He was still in a state of hating HK. I think he only spent his 4 years starting anew, focusing on himself. In fact thats why he divorced? Not so much on SR too. Don't even want to buy a phone to contact her etc. SR ws someone he thought probably can help along the way for him to start anew... though they do keep in contact. His sister also described him as someone who doesn't love SR and SR herself knows.

I probably don't hate him as much as when he was divorcing HK. He clearly is not some scumbag who ran after amother lady and totally no heart for  his wife kind. There was a lot of heartache as he watched HK left after HK signed the divorce paper in his house... alsp when he saved her in the water. For him it was really to end some sufferings and no return  for him and his wife the and then. When he explained that he had waited for her to change and she didn't.  It kind of finalise everything I guess.

But I recalled really disliking him after he saved his wife and his wife was in one room. He and the woman in another... and the scene before HK jumped into the water. Was really upset with him for the direct hurts he might have caused his wife.

  5. @lclarakl: "What I don't like about JE, is everything is on his terms. When HK wasn't meeting his expectations and didn't grieve the way he wanted her to, he wanted her out of his life and began an affair with a young woman who met his terms and did not care one iota how it affected HK. Now that HK has changed to be more like a younger HK, a version of SR, he wants her back. If HK gets her memory back and easily falls into a relationship with JE, then I would see her earlier efforts of fighting for her marriage as pathetic because she will not have required anything of him--especially after the hospital scene and him begging his father. She will have let him drive her to crawling in the mire of humiliation and scorn, begging him and his mistress on her knees for him to grant her the "privilege" of getting back in his favor with no effort on his part."

@lclarakl, I like how you wrote about JE, despite his charisma, he's a very unreliable guy.... Life with JE is like life on a volcano....

You wrote a whole poem about BS.... I have revised my opinion on him, shared life with such a person: light, warm and comfortable....

I totally have the same feel about BS. Such a guy gives such security.  Good character and lovingly protective.  Questions asked to JE On what happened if YK is HK were also well-posed. JE doesn't have an answer or ... maybe he hasn't even thought through things like  BS?!

However, w regards to the divorce. Think it's really more than meet the eyes. HK didn't grieve well... or I would say practically her strong nature wants to decidedly forget her child so as to move on.  In JE's eyes, HK also has changed and he had given chances in his own terms.  The way she wanna JE to grab hold of the family s business was also a turn off for JE. There is no excuse for JE' s immature way of handling it but I would really say that both parties are responsible for a divorce. It was just more frustrating that JE was emotionally immature enough to handle it and consciously allow SR to step in.

Appreciate BS in the role of helping HK to heal. The kids were a good source of comfort. Am glad HK has found BS and the whole family.

  6. I really want to know what the writer's fascination with tying shoelaces is all about. Or is it shoes in general?

HK uses her shoes to kill the dying bug; putting it out of its misery--which drew JE's anger

SR won't spend moment to buy shoes that are falling apart--a very cheap pair is less than $10

JE notices and runs to give her his shoes to wear in the rain (and this before he knew he was attracted to her), putting her feet in them and tying the laces

HK observes crazy SR trying to wipe rain off JE's shoes that's she's wearing (not like it isn't pouring rain)

SR proudly wearing the shoes at her job, modeling them outside

HK buys SR a couple pairs of shoes so she can retrieves JE's shoes

SR refuses to wear the shoes-----the haughty skank

JE notices SR wearing new shoes--sandals that she bought

SR and JE's shoes outside their love nest

HK's shoes are a point of focus as she walks towards the edge of the bridge

JE in one scene sees HK's untied shoelaces and is almost moved to tears

JE in a later scene sees HK's untied shoelaces and can't help himself, he's moved to tie them as he weeps

HK after leaving BIL, ex-reporter and JE in the elevator, she stops outside to tie her shoelaces

JR- we can't forget her almost fall as she tripped and skid across the floor---definitely does not need to be in leadership

    Super like your post.

In my country... shoes are not to be meant as gift to lovers . It means walking away with another person.

Have been waiting for flashbacks of scenes of their love in connection with HK's shoe lace's during their courting days ....   Or did I miss those scenes?

CR: @irilight for ep 21 SR and HK's scene

Finally, we get to hear from SR herself on why she became the third wheel.

SR to YK2 whom she now knows to be HK:

You dislike me. I dislike you too. I'm afraid of you, the you who could eat me up. the you who could make me suffer another breakdown, why again? Aren't you the one who first started it? You are the one who first despised me, who first looked down on me, as if you are a noble being, a perfect one. You trampled on my heart. You disregarded me. I hope you will disappear from the face of this earth. I really wish that you'd just disappear. I hope you are DEAD!.

What I gathered from SR's speech: she prob just thought of having a crush on JE and nothing more. But HK came by one day and was being rude and disrespectful to SR. That made her mad and made her feel like trash. SR suffered a breakdown. With that wounded mindset, SR set out to seek her revenge against HK. What is a sweeter revenge than to steal her husband from her?

Wow! Quite a revelation to me, the motivation of a person when one's pride is being trampled, and one is being despised and disregarded as nothing. Anyone with a different take? or similar?

agree with you.:) To add on. Her sufferings made her not want to be trampled upon.. her experiences in life... probably make her someone who wants to love out her dream at all cost,  even breaking moral grounds.  She mentioned to JE she doesn't want to live with regrets.

Remembered vividly that she wanted to give out and ask BS how to forget someone.  However, she changed her mind when she saw the divorce paper JE has, knowing it's possible to live out her dream...

so from a simple dream of loving him innocently.. to being challenged by HK and subsequently... seeing possibility of the rls... I guess greed in human nature is inevitable?

Now he wants to bring the new HK back into the company. I don't know if he thinks the new HK will be different from the old, but when he suggested she come back into the company to run it and he make medicine, I just thought, "Here we go again, him hiding in the lab while she's battling on the frontline."

yeah i agree with you, JE was way too self centered, or else he wouldn't do all that to HG. Without him realizing his mistake, starting again with HG is quite useless. I hope his character will show good transformation

I see JE as having realized his mistakes. Not just since setting foot back in SK, but I believe he realized it way back during the years in US. I know I know, for some, it will never be 'enough' of a realization or remorse, no matter what JE does and will do. I get that. And accept that. In fact, to the glee of many, including me, we will soon get to see JE in tears and grief.

While I agree JE was and still is selfish, I disagree that in this instance, that was his selfishness or self-centredness, esp not for "him hiding in the lab while she's battling on the frontline"  that motivated his request to dad for HK's return to MPC. That - JE researching/creating medicine, HK making them available to the public/marketplace', and which essentially equates to them owning and running MPC - was exactly what HK had always wanted for JE and herself. I see JE as trying to do his bit in getting HK's dream off the ground.

Not pro-JE, esp NOT THE CHEATER & ABUSER in JE, just my perspective of what was shown.

The writer in later episodes may have flashbacks showing JE in the U.S. realizing his mistakes, but that would fly in the face of his attitude towards YK2 when he first returned to Korea. He was irritated  by her and at times angry because he thought she was HK pretending not to know him. He told her to never appear before him again and angrily stormed off--isn't that the same thing he begged his father to make happen 4 years ago.  He also seemed very happy when SR arrived back in town. If he was a man who realized his mistakes and had some remorse after 4 years of thinking about it in the U.S., then he would have shown a different attitude toward YK2 even if he thought she was HK pretending to be someone else.  No doubt he was shocked when he saw her for the first time and it may have hit him unexpectedly that he missed her, which could possibly explain his anger towards YK2--hating himself for feeling that way. Again the writer can show it, but it won't be believable to me based on what I've seen.

I personally don't see it as JE trying to get HK's dream off the ground. I see it as him liking the new HK and wants her back. I think he also wants to go back to what he loves doing, working in the lab and out of the office work which he hates. I felt like he wanted to use it to entice HK back to him--offer his ambitious ex-wife the same thing he told her she needed to avoid. He hated his ambitious wife and thought she was consumed with her work.

Not bashing JE, but this is my perspective from what has been shown.

I tend to agree that JE did not at first think he made a mistake.  Even before the affair he wanted to separate from his wife because he felt she was cold and unfeeling not just in the way she treated people in court but in the way she dismissed the death of their daughter.  He further saw her actions trying to manipulate  his career and the false action of publicly disgracing his gf as final straw.

He first thought that HK was playing games and was upset.  Then he realized that she might not have know who she was and wanted to the spark that was his wife.  The wife that worked hard to be a lawyer.  As he said if she was doing fine he might have let the resentment remain. However, if she is sick or not well the walls come down.  His family knew this well which is why they hide HK death.

JE is evolving.  Now we need YK2 to also evolve into a new HK who keeps YK2 moral code and motherly aspects.

Totally agree. I think he has got morals. Passionate about making medicine to help people. Not interested in inheriting what his rich daddy has. I would still want to think that his mistake, is really  that he didnt wait for HK, who repeatedly disappoint him times and again.; that he didnt try other ways to salvage the marriage.

Typical korean drama would have made yk2 stopped BS from hitting JE or attempting to at least stop telling JE the truth that his wife is dead. But she did nothing. Guilt toward BS pehaps... Or maybe she thinks that the truth needs to be brought into light and stopped JE from sinkingfurther.

Like it that YK is direct and expressed her unwillingness to act as his wife any longer. Wonder if she hopes that JE will love her for who she is., her current identity

So far we see JE watching HK reading and always expressing his deep mad love for her when they were dating or in their earlier stages of their marriage. Am happy to see the shared experiences of having meals together and playing  basketball together. Cant wait for Sat to come.

  10. Just finished ep 17 with subtitle in chinese. Think both SR and BS are in denial.

Both think once SR get married, it ll be better.

Reminded that humans like to think that if certain things happen, they will be happier.

If she gets attached, she will be happier... Ifthey have kids, things will be better. Letting go and staying contented without comparing, is so difficult to learn.

Meanwhile, cant wait for the car scene when they will be holding hands again!

  11. @ayselluna, I do think there are some things that are black and white; however, motives can make them shades of gray by some people's perspective. JE committed adultery, but the shades of gray used by some to excuse his behavior with -- he was grieving, his wife was cold, etc. You could have a person who commits murder - very black and white. The shades of gray may be, this man killed the person who raped his daughter or who killed his child. Shades of gray to me a lot of times has to do with extenuating circumstances.  Shades of gray doesn't change the fact the act was done, it's how we reason on it.

In the case of SR, I don't see her as a good person. I don't see someone going after a married man by touching him, kissing him, especially after he told you he wasn't interested and you still kiss him. I personally believe that she left the box she was carrying in order for him to bring it to her. Then to have a wife begging you to leave their husband along, SR was not so invested in JE that she couldn't step back, instead she brazen tells the wife on a number of occasions that she doesn't deserve her husband. Those are not actions of a goodhearted person. Her actions were not even good to the man who adopted her and gave her a home. The only reason she's visiting her father now is so she can get what she wants.

Even her stealing the passport--it's not hers and nor is it her business. She just does whatever she wants.

I haven't see her "goodness" in her interactions with others. It's all about a means to an end----whatever it takes to help her cause. She's so blinded in her own self righteousness that she has the nerve to paint HK as the evil woman when JE was the one making advancements on HK. While SR was the one making advancements onto JE in her pursuit. In the dramaland world, SR is a bad woman.  Most people who commit unjustified evil acts on others, can always explain away their actions.  In the case of SR, she's in love with JE and his wife is cold.

Bottomline, SR had a crush on JE and she wanted him. JE also did things towards SR that could be misconstrued by any woman, regardless of their age--pinning her hair out of her face, bringing her shoes, etc.  I also think he led SR on which was noticed by HK who had received the same type of treatment from JE when they first started liking each other.

(excuse the type-o's. I'm using my Ipad and it tends to auto-fill words sometimes)

I like it that you pointed out about the passport. You know sometimes we just take things without returning them to their rightful position? Its stealing actually!  Except that SR has a seared conscience. She thinks its totally her right to do whatever she wants... Its her heart, her hand, her mouth. Gosh. :( But no, she should really bear the fruit of having some self-control!

Writer has really portray SR's character through this act as well. Has learnt a lot from watching this drama, and appreciating all the insights from Gurus here. Thank you people. Such joy!

  12. Hello everyone. Am new here. Just wanna thank all the people who have made the efforts for the translation. :D My 2 cents for this drama so far. Guess JE made a grave mistake. While HK begged him and said she will wait for him to turn back to her, JE did not wait for HK.

JE gave HK many chances. He said that he waited in hope for her to change. But she just kept changing and JE could not even face her anymore. To be fair to JE, I remembered that when HK won    a law suit, someone committed suicide but she werent even feeling guilty or wrongful about it.  So morally speaking, i would be thinking twice about sharing my life with such a cold-blooded creature. however, i still feel that JE should have manage this better. Perhaps gave time for them to live separately temporarily and time to save this marriage. See a counselor maybe. Healing and grieving over the loss of a kid takes time.

Instead, he let his hatred  and disgust over HK took over. Worse still, he allow himself to be tempted by another piece of cake. He said he was attracted by SR but never told her that he loved her before... At least not how he had loved HK. It was purely temptation(attraction )that he could not succumb to. Human nature.

Earlier, He was clear that his marriage had difficulties before SR and he wanted to make sure SR was not the cause of it. I love it that there and then, he did not gave in even when SR offered herself to him and tempted him.

I agree w so many people that it would be better if he had ended relationship with HK first and then accept SR. However, honestly, his heart has changed. He no longer love HK anymore and this was before SR was in the picture. I think when Love grows cold, both parties are at fault.  If i were HK, it really doesnt matter anymore whether he was with SR before or after HK. I would however, fault him for not waiting longer and made efforts to rekindle the long lost love and get healed together. Thats what marriage is ll about.. Marriage vows etc. he has betray a trust and it will be difficult to love such a man again.

Now that the old HK is back...yes JE is betraying SR again?!  Who can blame JE from being attracted to his darling again? This is the woman he was longing to see back then. JE has verbally promise SR that they will journey together. Yes this hurts SR big time. As much as i dont like SR, it is sad that this has to happen. Its probably a good time for her to understand that what doesn't belong to her will never be, irregardless of how she schemes or begs or steals. As i have said , when love grows cold, both parties are at fault... Furthermire, he nwver really love SR. They are not lawfully marriage, its a little harder for me to get angry with JE. I can only say that if I am SR, I have the right still, to get angry with this man who doesnt keep his promise. Yet if i have tried so hard and this man still doesnt love me, 4 years ago or 4 years later, i will have to choose to let go or continue to wait in vain. Ultimately, i will not hold on to someone, who is not married to me and whose heart is no longer with me. Pls let go SR, JE doesn't defines you.  You have got an education. You have got looks. Move on.

With such a nice soundtrack from Ryu...JE's tears...The way he looked at HK. ..The way he was concerned over her...The way he deeply regretted his wrongdoing. I just find myself melting for this guy. Sooooo charming!  I believe in giving second chances afteralll, provided that he is truly repentant. Shipping HK and JE. :)
