Kwon Sang-woos car troubles force his wife to shut Web site
[Talk of the town]
Actress Son Tae-young shut her Cyworld page due to the fallout form her husbands involvement in a car accident earlier this month.
According to news reports, Sons husband, actor Kwon Sang-woo, was driving on the wrong side of the road on June 12 and hit a parked car. He then ran into the police car that had pursued him, continued driving and hit a tree before fleeing the scene on foot. Two days later, he turned himself in at Gangnam Police Station.
Kwon, who stars in the Korean war film 71: Into the Fire, apologized to the public once the accident had been made public, but netizens continued to express their anger toward him on Sons Cyworld page.
The personal attacks on the couple were renewed later in the month when Son appeared at a fashion show after the news of her husbands accident was made public.

"Asian James Dean" is the nickname commented by audiens and media to actor Kwon Sang woo during the movie "Into The Fire" was introducing in Stanford University, USA.
A Press premiere was held on June 3 in Lotte Cinema, Konkuk University - Seoul participated by Kim Seung Woo, Cha Seung Won, Kwon Sang Woo, Top and director Lee John. Actor Kim Seung Woo conveyed "I got impressive of foreign critics 'Asian James Dean' to Kwon Sang Woo."

Into The Gunfire Releases The Full Tension Teaser and Poster

The upcoming Korean movie 2010 ‘Into The Gunfire’ starring Hallyu Star Kwon Sang Woo, TOP, Cha Seung Won, and Kim Seung Woo has released its poster and first teaser. The film setting in Korean war period is based on the true story of 71 students who fought hundreds of North Korean soldiers who had invaded.
The poster describes how mess condition is in the battle field. All of the main casts pose in front side of poster. Fear, anger, and pity are portrayed in their face while behind them the soldiers combat readiness.
Meanwhile, the short teaser describes more obviously how the disorder condition in the battle field and their variety emotions. As well in the poster, the fear, anger, pity, and frustration are describe in the main casts’ face.
The 1,23 minutes of teaser is started by a soldier trace the road while soldier corpses are sprawl anywhere. Then, the bombs blow up crashing more death victim. The teaser is full of bomb explosions, firing contact, screaming, blood, and corpse anywhere. All the main casts have done their best on their acting. I think the film will be an awesome war film with full of tension. I really can’t wait for watching!
It is scheduled to release in June 2010 in time to commemorate the 60 years that have passed since the war first broke out.

Buzz project Daemul (aka Big Fish) has secured its two leads — and they’re the same two leads it had signed before the project died due to myriad production problems.
Go Hyun-jung had made the decision to re-sign as lead a couple months ago, and now Kwon Sang-woo is about to finalize his contract with the production company, Lee Kim (Yigim) Productions.
This project has been through so many ups and downs that I remain half-disbelieving that it’ll actually make it to air, and the series has yet to be assigned a broadcast slot. Also note that this is now an MBC drama; it had been planned for broadcast on SBS in its previous incarnation. Still, with two big stars attached (again) — and with Go Hyun-jung leading MBC to ratings victory last year in Queen Seon-deok — it’ll probably push through this time. Or so we can hope.
For a quick refresher on plot: This manhwa adaptation features Go as Korea’s first female president, and Kwon as a male gigolo. Scandalous!

Ko Hyeon-jeong to star in TV series with Kwon Sang-woo

Top Korean actress Ko Hyeon-jeong is set to star in a new television drama alongside Hallyu star Kwon Sang-woo, according to local media reports on Thursday.
The actress has decided to appear in the drama tentatively titled "Big Thing" in English, after long and hard consideration, the reports said.
Ko's contract, however, is said to include a clause which stipulates that Kwon must play the male lead.
Kwon, who has been contemplating on whether to shoot the series for two years, has reportedly given a verbal agreement to do the show and is currently working out the details of his contract.
"Big", based on a comic book series of the same title by Park In-kwon, is about a first-class gigolo (played by Kwon) who helps a human rights lawyer (played by Ko) achieve her dream of becoming Korea's first female president.
As a former Miss Korea runner-up, Ko rose to stardom after starring in 1995 hit TV series "Hourglass" and made headlines after marrying Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee's nephew Chung Yong-jin.
She resumed her acting career in 2005 after getting a divorce and fully regained her reputation as Korea's top actress last year, receiving the grand prize at the 2009 MBC Drama Awards for her role in the smash hit TV series "Queen Seon-deok."
Shooting for "Big" is scheduled to begin in May.

Actor Kwon Sang-woo injured while filming fight

Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo is reported to have been injured yesterday while shooting his latest movie, “Into The Gunfire.” Kwon was immediately brought to the nearest hospital for treatment in Hapcheon, South Gyeongsang, but when he continued complaining of pain, he was transferred to a larger hospital in Seoul.
Kwon was filming a fighting scene with the rapper T.O.P, a member of idol group Big Bang, who is also starring in the movie. While they were rolling around in rough dirt, Kwon’s right cheekbone is said to have become swollen.
According to Kwon’s manager, “Kwon’s injury isn’t fatal but as the actor wants an exact diagnosis after feeling continuous pain, he is now at a hospital in Seoul.” After a thorough examination, Kwon will be back on set to resume shooting. The hospital has not yet released the results of its examination and Kwon has been prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication.

Finecut takes sales rights to John H Lee's $10m Korean war epic

Seoul-based sales company Finecut has picked up John H. Lee's $10m upcoming Korean War movie, currently called 71 – Into The Fire.
The film, which is being produced by Taewon Entertainment, tells the true story of 71 student soldiers who fought an impossible battle against the seasoned North Korean army during the Korean war. It shows the fierce battle against the emotions of the young soldiers as they fought to protect their final line of defence.
Korean Wave star Kwon Sang-woo is joined by Choi Seung-hyun, a.k.a. T.O.P. from the pan-Asian boyband Big Bang, who recently made his acting debut in Iris. Cha Seung-won plays a charismatic North Korean major and Kim Seung-woo plays a South Korean captain trying to save the students.
The production crew includes the special effects team that previously worked on John Woo's Red Cliff, Feng Xiaogang's Assembly, and Taegukgi: The Brotherhood Of War.
The film started shooting last December and major local distributor Lotte Entertainment is set to release the film in Korea last this summer. FineCut will be screening the promo reel for the film in Berlin's European Film Market.
Lee's A Moment To Remember racked up more than 3 million admissions in Korea and is the biggest grossing Korean film in Japan, where it took over $33m.

With Lee Byung-heon most likely leaving the IRIS franchise behind when the series ends later this month, how would you feel about Kwon Sang-woo stepping in as the next leading man? According to Kwon himself, he was offered that possibility.
On December 11, he appeared on the KBS morning show Yeo Yoo Man Man to say, “These days, I’m enjoying watching IRIS. Actually, the movie I’m filming now (Into the Gunfire) is being made by the same production company as IRIS, and I received an offer to be in IRIS 2.”
However, a rep from Kwon’s side made sure to clarify the situation in a phone interview with My Daily on the 11th: “Kwon Sang-woo is currently filming the movie Into the Gunfire, and IRIS hasn’t ended yet. Casting talks aren’t yet serious. When he met with the production company president, he was asked lightly, ‘What do you think of doing it?’ IRIS 2 doesn’t yet have a director or actors, and it’s not time for casting talks yet. He was only expressing that he likes the show. Kwon Sang-woo isn’t the type to decide on a project easily. Currently, he’s fielding a lot of offers within Korea and from abroad. Of course, if he ends up shooting IRIS 2 that would be great, but the script and role may change. He plans to focus on his acting activities beginning next year.”
(Talk about protesting too much, eh? In my overactive imagination, I am seeing two possible scenarios: Either they’re trying to keep Kwon’s schedule wide open for other possibilities and don’t want to commit, or he made a faux pas by mentioning IRIS, pissed of people at Taewon, and has to now backtrack. Note that I’m making all this up in my head, but it’s amusing to ponder.)
Despite all that backpedaling and the fact that it seems too early to seriously consider casting, I’d actually like to see Kwon Sang-woo playing a spy in IRIS 2. He’s had a rough couple of years, which is partly bad luck but also partly due to questionable choices. I think he’d be a great successor for Lee Byung-heon as a recognizable Hallyu star who would have as much to gain from the role as the drama would for having him. He’s still famous, but he hasn’t had a good role in years and his post-army career has been less successful than his buddies like Song Seung-heon and So Ji-sub, populated by one disappointment after another. (His recent projects: melodrama Bad Love, weepie flop More than Blue, and underwhelming trendy drama Cinderella Man.)

nevertheless dear ...... moi found his actions most disappointing
..... a leading man who played macho hero in so many films & dramas ...... this real life thinggy does spoil d image & respect completely, at least for moi 
..... not unlike those K-actors who acted in tough guy roles but tried to evade military duty in real life -- yucks!
