I never thought that he looks good (Ep 1 was the first time I saw this actor) but thanks to that picture, I'm changing my opinion.
I just have a feeling that this drama is gonna be good. XP

i dont' mind alternating, i think i might just select some scenes from the episodes sometimes. i am also detailed and so try to include everything in the summary. lol

so i wasn't expecting to watch this drama because it's a melodrama, and seriously, melodramas are things of the past. i mean, Kdramas (good ones, i mean) have changed recently to be more realistic, subtle, smart, and witty so i was hesitant about Will It Snow for Christmas caused it seemed so "old-fashioned" in its theme. However, i've watched Lee Kyung Hee's other dramas (MISA, Thank You, and Sangdoo) and loved them all, so i wanted to give this drama a try. This was a good idea in that the drama is surprisingly addicting to me now (and it was a bad idea cause now i'm watching this drama when i should be studying for 4 finals! haha).i'm especially curious as to why adult KJ is so much more accepting of her now? why doesn't he care that she's a barmaid anymore? i guess he's accepted her, but i want to see why?

I was like it. I have NEVER liked melodramas. Name all the melodramas of the past few years, even that started the hallyu boom, and I will tell you honestly that I've never watched them before. In fact, those are the very dramas that put me off and made me develop a bias against kdramas, a bias that was only broken after I stumbled onto non-melodrama-ish, witty and fresh dramas like MNIKSS. But this melodrama looks promising. There's still a risk of it developing into something too dramatic for my liking but I hope it won't fall to the dark side (and myvirtual garbage bin).
Actually, I think it's reasonable, how KJ became more tolerant of his mother. I think it's the different phases of life. Young KJ was unable to understand the actions of his mother, and perhaps even found them shameful. Don't you remember of a time when you were young, disagreeing with your parents' actions? Looking back, do you see that as so unreasonable anymore? Most likely not, because upon growing up, one would have experienced more of the world and come to understand the actions adults sometimes are made to take. Futhermore, we know that KJ doesn't hate his mother. So that love, together with the maturing of his character, caused him to become more accepting of his mother, I feel.
As for the adult arch of the story, I like the fact that we do not have to wait xx episodes for the two leads to meet up. However, anyone finds the fact that HJW running away a bit unrealistic? Uhm, hopefully the writer will explain that part for us later on and it is not a mere plot device to separate the two main leads.It was alright for me, actually. I can see a few reasons why she ran away from home:
1. She indirectly caused her brother's death and so can't face her family. The death was over a 'minor' thing. If she hadn't liked KJ, or thought of the dumb revenge game in the first place, her brother wouldn't hve gone into the river to find the pendant for her. In fact, if not for her rashness in vandalising that hooligan's car, the pendant wouldn't even have dropped into the river!
2. She is heartbrokened when she overheard her mother saying she'd rather have JW taken instead of JY. We knew from the start that her mother likes JY more, since she responses only when called JY's mum and not JW's mum. I bet JW knows that too. But to have her mother say something that ultimately meant "I'll not be this sad if it was JW that died" must have been terrible.
3. She didn't want to remind her parents of her brother('s death).
4. She doesn't want to see KJ. That's naturally the case, since KJ has a part to play in causing the death of her brother. In addition, she knew that she can never get together with KJ because of that. So, to spare herself from the misery of being reminded of her brother's death and of having to deny her feelings everytime she sees KJ in school, she had to leave.
And, yes, she does come in handy for getting rid of unwanted girlfriends ... hahahaha

no problems for the first episode summary, from the caps and important scenes in Ep. 2 karened has done them. i guess i could do some scenes that i liked and thought were important from now on...
i think once school calms down i can do longer ones.

I didn't expect myself to like this drama because I'm not really into melodramas, and this one is poised to be one right from the trailers!
But boy, I totally enjoyed the light, not too tragic touch in ep 1. Plus the young Ji Wan looked adorable without being (act) cute and the young Kang Jin looked quite charming. But then the preview at the end of ep 1 made me feel like giving ep 2 a miss because it seemed to be going towards the tragic direction and the young actor and actress are now replaced with the older versions. =(
Yet, I watched on and..........................I cried when Ji Wan's elder brother appeared because I had previously thought ep 1 was set after his death (and that's why Ji Wan's mother doesn't react when people call her Ji Wan's mum, and only reacts when called his brother's mom). But....seeing him appear meant that he's gonna die 'in front of my eyes'!! Worse still, he's quite a hottie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yeah, so I cried when he died, just like that. I can totally see why Ji Wan is angry, not just with Kang Jin, but I think more with herself.
I can't wait for ep 3!

I did a scene by scene recap for ep 2 based on the caps shared by Luv. Thankies! Watched it quite a few hours ago so there might be stuff I left out or remember wrongly. Don't mind.
[At the bridge]
- Kang Jin hears Ji Wan being beaten up by that hooligan and turns back to give that guy a trashing.
- Kang Jin is surprisingly good at fighting and so managed to subdue that guy easily, holding him by his collar against the railing by the bridge.
- The guy tries to grab hold of something coz he was afraid of falling over, and ended up grabbing Kang Jin's pendant.
- The pendant falls into the river and Kang Jin is stunned, looking at it as it disappears.
- The hooligan made use of his temporary loss of senses to throw him some punches.
- Kang Jin comes back to his senses and retaliates, hitting that guy even harder.
- Ji Wan cries for him to stop as he may just kill the guy, and cries that it's all her fault that things come to this.
[At the police post]
- Kang Jin's mother comes and try to pacify the police officer by sweet talking and making him tea. She got ignored.
- She asks Kang Jin why he did that when he had previously beared with it successfully.
- Kang Jin says that he lost his father.
- Kang Jin's mother asks what he's talking about and he says that he lost the pendant his father gave him.
- Kang Jin's mother reprimmands him saying why bother about someone who doesn't give a hoot about him. He has lost his future because of the fight.
- Kang Jin loses his cool and shouts that his father is lost. He had lost his father.
- Ji Wan, who was also at the police post, looks on in shock.
[At the tea house]
- Kang Jin's mother (Chun Hee) packs up at the tea house because that hooligan chased her out. Her friend comes to help.
- Chun Hee pretends that she doesn't care that Kang Jin is going to prison, saying how fortunate he is to be able to eat the food prepared in the prison, since she doesn't know how to prepare that.
- But she eventually weeps at the thought and breaks a cup.
- Ji Wan's father arrives and help Chun Hee with the cup, saying that she doesn't have to close down the tea house, and that Kang Jin will be released from the police post. His school has also agreed not to pursue this matter.
- Chun Hee smiles at him weakly, but he immediately said that it's not because of her that she did so, but because of ji Wan, who was very upset that she had caused this.
- As he leaves, Chun Hee asked if he had came to the tea house before this, because he wanted to see how her life was ruined because of him.
[At the bridge]
- Kang Jin is released from the police post and goes to the bridge.
- Ji Wan, who was by the riverbank looks at him from afar. Suddenly, he jumps into the river.
- Ji Wan panicks and runs to the bridge, shouting for help when he doesn't surface.
- When no one comes to help, she gets ready to jump in herself. At this moment, Kang Jin surfaces and sits by the riverbank, mulling and shouting for the pendant to be returned to him.
- He eventually sees Ji Wan looking at him from the bridge.
[At the river]
- Ji Wan dives into the river to help Kang Jin find the necklace.
- Her friend thinks it's impossible for her to find the necklace in the river and compliments her for going that far just to deceive and seduce Kang Jin as parwt of her revenge plan.
[At Kang Jin's class]
- That 'girlfriend' of Kang Jin asks him what happened the moment he steps into class, saying how he has to go write a repentance letter, and how Ji Wan has to as well.
- SHe then asks him what's with him and Ji Wan, looking and sounding very jealous.
- Kang Jin ignores her and pulls out the milk and egg from below his desk.
- She asks him to throw them away like he always did, but he did otherwise and drank the milk right there.
[At the office]
- Kang Jin enters the room to find Ji Wan sleeping on the desk.
- Ji Wan wakes up and see Kang Jin sitting opposite her, and sits up immediately.
- Kang Jin starts to tell her odd things, such as the correct spellijng for words and the correct sentence ending structures for expressing different ideas.
- Ji Wan then realises that he was correcting her repentance essay.
- Kang Jin returns her the essay with red markings all over, remarking that she must have slept through all her language classes as these are stuff that even junior high schools know.
- He asks her to let him vet her essay before handing it in to the teacher, and she feels really embarrassed.
[by the roadside]
- Ji Wan sees Chun Hee struggling with her heels ( I think something dirty got stuck to it?) and approaches her to help her with it.
- Kang Jin looks on from afar.
- Ji Wan insists that she's good at such stuff but the moment she said that, she hit the heels too hard and it broke off.
[by the roadside]
- Chun Hee runs happily to make the delivery but Kang Jin catches up from behind.
- He comments that thoe sneakers she was wearing belong to Ji Wan (he used 'Ji Wan' instead of her full name here!! Indicating closeness? XP) and wants to return them to her.
- Chun Hee insists that she gets to wear them since the girl broke her heels.
- Kang Jin forces her mother to take off the sneakers and gave her his to wear instead.
[by the roadside]
- Kang Jin runs to towards Ji Wan but stops short from approaching her when he sees her stumbling around awkwardly in heels, one of which is broken).
- He only rushes forward when she lost her balance and fell. He places her sneakers next to her and takes the heels from her before leaving.
- Ji Wan shouts, "Then what is your mother going to wear?'
- Kang Jin doesn't reply but Ji Wan sees him walking barefooted.
[At Ji Wan's house]
- Ji Wan looks at her sneakers and smiles to herself.
- Her brother (Ji Yong) comes in and complained that he waited the whole day for her to pick him up at the bus station.
- He's back from outside the town and will remain there until he gets enlisted a while later.
- Then he asks about her sneakers, and asks who it was that made her forget about her promise to pick him up.
- Ji Wan says that it's someone who walked around barefooted just to give her those pair of sneakers.
[At the school's study area]
- Ji Wan's friends talk about how rumours are spreading that Ji Wan is now going out with Kang Jin. One of her friend lets it slip that she's doing it for revenge.
- This is overheard by that 'girlfriend' of Kang Jin, who confronts the two for an explanation.
[At the broadcasting room]
- Ji Wan gets called to the broadcasting room during break and she finds the 'girlfriend' (I shall call her gf from now..can't be bothered about her name) there, unaware that they're on live broadcast.
- gf confronts Ji Wan to ask if it is true that she is trying to get close to Kang Jin to take revenge on her for stealing her ex-boyfriend. She asks Ji Wan if it is true that she will dump Kang Jin once he goes over to her side.
- This is broadcasted all over the school, and hence Kang Jin hears it as well.
- Ji Wan stammers, saying it was like that at first, but now...
- She got cut off when Kang Jin bursts into the room and switches off the broadcast. He says that he didn't hear anything from before and asks her to continue "What about now?"
- She's too shocked to answer and just looks at Kang Jin.
- Kang Jin repeats his question and his voice gets louder each time.
- Ji Wan eventually runs off.
[At the river]
- Ji Wan cries alone by the riverbank and sobs, saying that she likes him now. Even when she looks at her books, he will appear such that she can't even study. She doesn't even think of revenge anymore.
- Ji Yong sees her crying and approaches her to ask her what's wrong.
- Upon understanding what happened, Ji Yong advises her to just confess her true feelings to Kang Jin, but she says she can't because she caused him to lose his father.
- Ji Yong agrees that this is something to be guilty about but it'll be ok if they find the pendant back for him.
- Ji Yong says that since he was a diver before, he will help her find the pendant by that day and asks her to go look for Kang Jin to confess.
- Ji Wan says it's impossible for him to find it by the end of the day because she had tried searching for 2 months but still can't find it.
- Ji Yong says that there isn't anything he can't do because he's the genuis from their town. He says that he won't come up if he can't find it by that day, and so he enters the water.
[At the town]
- Kang Jin runs around to look for Ji Wan; he had ran out in the middle of class to look for her.
[At the river]
- Ji Wan climbs from the riverbank happily to look for Kang Jin. She looks over at the river and realises that her brother had not surface for a while.
- She looks on for a while and when her brother still didn't surface, she panicked.
[At the hospital]
- Ji Yong is certified dead and his mother breaks down, saying that they should have taken Ji Wan.
- Ji Wan overhears that.
[At the river]
- Ji Wan, who was wearing mourning clothes, cries her heart out.
- She stumbles towards the river and falls a few times. She sees Kang Jin's pendant among the rocks at the riverside.
[in front of her house]
- Ji Wan walks home only to see Kang Jin in front of her house.
- Kang Jin approaches her and asks if she had eaten. He places a box of milk and an egg in her hands.
- Ji Wan smashes the egg onto the ground and pours the milk over it before walking away.
- As she walks off, Kang Jin shouts, "I like you. Just like how you like me, I like you."
- But Ji wan turns back and tells him she doesn't like him. She goes on to critisize him, saying how she wouldn't mix with people as rash, low status and some other negative adjectives as him. She further says how dirty his mother is, seducing people at her age, and that he must have lost her senses before that.
8 years later
[At worksite]
- Kang Jin helps to save the workers from a collapse tunnel.
- The in-charge of the project arrives at the scene in a drunken state, and leaves the moment she sees that no one suffered heavy injuries.
- Kang Jin confronts her to tell her that this was caused by an error in the worksite design and says that he has reported this a few times but nothing was done.
- The in-charge says she has never seen such a report and Kang Jin rebuts her saying it was because she's always drunk when the report is delivered.
- We get to know that Kang Jin is the youngest ever to win this prestigious architectural award and got a scholarship for that. he went overseas to study and came back as a well sought after architect with an oustanding resume.
[At Kang Jin's hometown]
- Kang Jin returns to his hometown with his girlfriend, who had asked him to meet her parents and formally discuss about their wedding. Kang Jin tells her he wants to bring her somewhere first.
- They stop the car near a pavillion where a woman is flirting with a group of old man.
- The gf asks Kang Jin why they stopped there and makes negative comments about the woman's behaviour.
- Kang Jin tells her that woman is his mother, and alights from the car, calling out to his mother.
- His girlfriend is shocked as she watches the two hug and is unable to say a word when he asks her to greet his mother.
- Chun Hee comments that the girl seems to be on the verge of tears and that she'll get back to her game.
[in Kang Jin's house]
- Boo San (Kang Jin's brother) tells Kang Jin that he shouldn't have brought his girlfriend back because his previous girlfriend all left after coming here. He says that no woman from Seoul would be able to stand that town and seeing him have such a mother.
[Outside Ji Wan's house]
- Kang Jin wanders near Ji Wan's house and peeks into the house's courtyard. It seems that Ji Wan's father had stopped shutting the doors to his courtyard after Ji Wan left so that she can return anytime.
- He looks at a pensive Ji Wan's father and his face also shows a mixture of emotion.
[At the engagement ceremony]
- Kang Jin attends an engagement ceremony on behalf of a friend but the ceremony doesn't start even after 30 mins into the planned starting time.
- Kang Jin notices a woman in formal gown (presumably the one to be engageed) with a phone in her hands. Later, she receives a phone call and comes to the front, telling the people that she's the one supposed to be engaged today, she's Han Ji Wan.
- Kang Jin is startled at her name and pulls the invitation card out to check the names. Indeed, her name is printed on the card.
- She continues to explain that something cropped up and her partner can't make it today. They will make it up with a grander ceremony next time, and they'll sing and dance for the guests. She thanks them for coming and apologises for the cancellation.

Owing to the bad reputation Yu Zheng has amassed in the past years, I have always hesitated when it comes to his works, notwithstanding that Gong was probably the drama which pulled me into the cdrama sphere (but it's a drama I am not keen to rewatch, as with all his other dramas). But given the draught of good dramas after finishing Yun Xi Zhuan, I decided to give it a go.
Surprisingly, the colours were muted! The lead female is scheming and sometimes pure spiteful! The Empress is the kindest ever seen! The Emperor is actually aware of what his women are up to! The Emperor and the Empress love each other!
Gasp.
Yet I wouldn't call it top quality, benchmarking against Zhen Huan Zhuan. One bug which is really annoying is the whole thing about the 3 earrings on one ear thing. This is usually only worn when the concubines/Empress are in their court attire (formal wear), and not on daily basis. Furthermore, this is limited to ladies of high ranking, as a status ofsymbol. So everytime i see a maid with 3 earrings on each ear, it just reads overkill. Also, if it's such a common practice amongst the maids even, why was the Emperor so impressed by the 秀女in episode 1 when she was spotted with three earrings - so much so she got a place in the harem for this?
I'm quite enjoying the watch, and dreading the eventual heartache - no spoilers here. As the Mainland viewers said, 现在有多甜后面就有多虐.
There has been a trend of bittersweet endings, so I'm hoping that for all the heartbreaks, the ending for this will be a big sweet one. Stop adding sugar to the current CPs when they won't be the end game! :(
I'm still looking forward to Ruyi Zhuan and hoping it will live up to the standards of Zhen Huan Zhuan. I read that it is having difficulties airing because the production company want to air it on tv, and not just on online platforms as Yunxi Gong Lue is. And we all know the limited slots tv stations are given for period dramas these days..keeping fingers crossed!
