I am actually liking the past few episodes of Barefoot Friends. That's because they show the honest emotions and reactions without presentations. You see their struggle, their frustrations and their triumph, most of them personal. It's heartwarming. Let's give the show a chance, although they do have to think fast to come up with a definite concept. It's a variety/reality show that is not only here for the laughs. I like that. Will there be another chance for us to see these "always" glamorous stars without make-up, doing every day things and trying to do other stuff they simply do not know anything about? I am not a fan of UEE but I appreciate her actions on this show. She may have been a swimmer when she was younger, so she's not afraid of the water. But she has a fear of heights, and her diving skills leave so much to be desired. You see the bruises on her legs, the redness of her skin when she went body-flop in her dive. We see insights into their ordinary persona, not the "celebrity" persona that we are accustomed to see and read. That is refreshing. I hope this part does not get erased from the show if and when they decide on the final format.
Good luck to the members on the upcoming Master's Diving Competitions. I hope Eun Hyuk, Kim Hyun Joong, Yoon Shi Yoon and Eum Ji Won will win. They have been doing great. -
The lady swim coach is great. She's able to inspire the cast to try and jump. looking forward to the diving competition. I love how she's always very confident the Kim Hyun Joong will be able to dive from whatever height. Eun Hyuk was quite cool as well. He looks like a born diver. Yoon Shi Yoon was truly amazing. He's very brave and determined to conquer his fear, practicing diligently and willing his self to overcome his fear of height and the water. I am rooting for him.
I hope the show finds its niche soon. The cast is finally warming up to each other although I do wish that Kang Ho Dong will tone down the volume of his voice. You do not need to shout each and every time to be a good MC. What he has to do is motivate his co-hosts without breaking their eardrums. They also do not have to develop a faux relationship between KHJ and UEE like the "Monday Couple" in Running Man. They will still do just fine. What they should concentrate on is in finding good plot lines, good ideas and stories that will set them apart from the other variety shows. There's still the new variety show, Grandpas Over Flowers that has entered the foray, so that's another show that will compete with BFF. And it's got seasoned (evil) director Na PD. -
I haven't seen the latest episodes yet but I read some comments as to why BGH did not reveal that he's back in Joseon. I think it is more out of love for the people close to him. For one, he is still considered a fugitive. If it's known that he's back in Korea, people close to him will again bear the brunt of evil doings of his detractors and enemies, and there's always the threat of him being captured and sent to jail (again). So I believe it is a sacrifice on his part not to contact his closest friends to protect everyone. He can do good to people who need medical help, improve his skills further, and serve the needs of the long-suffering lowborns. It was the long-term wish of Dr. Ko and he wants to continue what his kind mentor wanted all along.

There's a jail scene almost every week, it's getting pretty boring and repetitive. A few pages back there were some parody lines on BKH being chummy with the jail guards because he's being incarcerated every week. Isn't there anything else? There should be more conflict in medical discoveries and how BKH can outsmart LMH and show him for the deep in the mud s.o.b. he really is. Even if its true that treachery, greed, underhand dealings were rife during the Joseon era, couldn't there be something that is on the brighter side, with things moving forward despite opposition? Think Tree with Deep Roots, Dong Yi, King Sejong. BKH at the beginning is presented as a lowborn, but he already knows that he's a yangban. Can't the writers twist that story for him to slowly get the upper hand? We know it's inevitable, but there are still so many facets to BKH's development as a human doctor to explore rather than be in and out of jail every week. There's a pattern - one triumph, jail time. That's one of the reasons, I believe, why the rating's stagnant, because nothing much happens.

Somehow if not for the (true) OTP, this drama is not worth watching, sad to say. I hope that I do not offend anyone. It is just so frustrating to see a promising drama careen left and right like this. The story moves round and round, without much development. For a 16-episode drama, it is sure taking its time to tell whatever story the writer wishes to tell. It moves like an inch-worm. Or maybe, the writer really got lost after the earlier episodes and now does not know what to do, considering that the middling story had sprouted so many branches. The doctor has become quite obnoxious and Tae Kang has been depicted as an idiot. Is the main plot the pregnancy secret? Then will the grand climax be the great reveal of who the real father of "Ankle" is at the last 10 minutes of the last episode? Sigh, so much for the wonderful acting of Kim Sun Ah and the improving acting chops of Lee Jang Woo. (Heavy sigh!!!

@ IBELIS, I believe Lady Jang said when she was talking to Ji An about getting ready to take over the company that the shoe company was started by her grandfather, then her father before her, although it was with Ji An's hard work that it became a top brand. So it means that Lady Jang has the final say on who to appoint as CEO, since her family owns the majority share in Jinny Kim. The exact nature of Na Ri's existence, is quite vague but her last name is Yeom, which is the same as that of President Yeom's, who is the brother in law of Lady Jang. This means Lady Jang is married to Chairman Yeom who had an affair, making Na Ri a daughter out of wedlock. And it seems like her father is very distant in his relationship with her and there's no love lost between her and Lady Jang.

Thanks, tiki_sg for the recap. Grrr, I would like to strangle MR. She's going overboard. What I cannot comprehend is the fact that DH rides in her car. What happened to taxis and buses. Doesn't he know how to ride them? Is there a point to me asking that question? The point is for him to stay away from her as much as possible so why hitch a ride when he knows for a fact that they are bombarding him with all these scenarios for MR to get closer to him. Aaargh..... such contradicting behavior patterns. We know that OB is always at the right place at the right time and if DH's car isn't back soon then in all likelihood she will spot DH alighting from MR's car. That will be the turning point of this cat and mouse game MR and her father is playing on DH. Now if MR's mom gets involved too it will be a triple whammy on DH and inversely on OB. I don't cherish seeing that situation. There is also the irritating presence of OB's dad in the mix! This is getting to be such a tangled web.
Btw Tiki, any news on how many more episodes we are looking at? The ratings are fairly good. Hurray for that!

The Choi father and daughter tag team is really laying the offensive on DH rather thickly. I know DH is still very wary of them but it seems his hands are a bit tied right now. I did not like that he shared lunch with MR though. He could have blatantly refused that, no matter what she said just to set the boundaries straight. I think he even told MR not to call her oppa. She was apologetic for a while but she was at it again when they were at the lobby. I hope that DH will become less honest with MR re such things as his car being borrowed by his brother. He could have told a white lie once in a while just so he could get some respite from the plastic-faced MR. And for all his being very observant of facial expressions, he could have seen the evil smirk that MR exhibited after the lengthy monologue by Mr. Choi. Wonder how long he will last. Will he show his great reserve and resolve like he did when he was with WB and being the subject of IQ's and later, SJ's overhandedness? He should take sometime to assess the situation and maybe talk to evil-dad Choi to lay some ground rules. As if there are only two people working at GD. The GM is not supposed to attend to all functions since he has staff under him, unless it is for a major top level discussion. Sigh...talking about real office protocols and drama protocols.
Agree with you tiki_sg. Maybe this is the time for KLM to actually do something for his daughter. Maybe he could use his swindling ways to help his daughter and son-in-law. He should repay DH's kindness to him. And why the heck is he staying at his in-laws house now? He arrived without anything and he's been there a few days and has the temerity to talk down at almost everyone as if he's the head of the household. Just when money is tight, the Jang's have more mouths to feed. KLM should stop yapping and do something for a change.
What did IQ tell YSH and Man Se that offended her mom? MS really has her eyes set on SJun that she's willing to endure anything and everything.
We all know OB is very sensible and very mature in her thinking for such a young age, but it really is worrying how the situations that are developing will affect her. How can she withstand this assault? She is strong but she needs other allies - like SolJi if she's not busy with being concerned about MG and maybe her best friend GC as well as her mother-in-law. She needs to be able to confide in someone she trusts and get some good advice in return. With a strong support group as well as DH and DN by her side, she will overcome these obstacles.
BTW tiki_sg how many episodes are left on this drama, would you know? With all these latest developments, it can be quite tiring. Maybe OB will make great success with her illustrations for the children's book. At least that will help ease her mind about matters at home somewhat.
Hopefully OB is not yet pregnant while the evil father-daughter team is working on the offensive. But I would really like for the HanBok couple to have more family bliss, i.e., news of OB getting pregnant, with twins (crossing fingers)!!!

Ah yeah. I agree with you scarecrow. MR is her father's daughter after all. She learned her manipulative and evil ways from her parents since the day she was born. She's always been saying that she didn't stop thinking about DH while she was married to another man and living in the US. Well thinking about someone does not mean that person belongs to you. If she really was "still in love" with DH, why take 7 years to get a divorce. And she's also thinking that it does not matter how long she gets separated from DH; that DH will be there and waiting for her and readily agree to pick up where they left off! Wow! Talk about total ownership - that's what's inside her twisted mind. It's like leaving a house for sometime and then come back and live in it whenever it suits the owner. On a personal note, the actress playing MR really has very limited facial expressions and her acting range is so narrow. It's the same as her portrayal of a spoiled and bean pie daughter in Creating Destiny.

I totally agree with you tiki_sg. It would be fun to see another character who will provide DH with competition for OB's attention. He' been so focused on all the problems, not that I blame him, but it is slowly driving him and OB apart. I miss the tender moments they used to have. We know that he is devoted to OB but both of them need reassurance from each other about their love and that there is strength in number. I do wonder why OB calls DH ajussi often. I do hear her call DH uri shillang once in a while. DH does have a pet name for her, how come she does not have one for him? Just wondering... And OB should realize that she not only has to fight MR for DN but also for DH.
Now for MS, she lost her brains again. She knows very well that she is not contributing to the family coffers. Her eldest brother just lost his job and has a wife and son to take care of as well as the rest of the clan. I don't know if MG is contributing. In all probability it's just her dad's income that's putting food on the table and she has the temerity to steal food from their house to give to a very unappreciative and still stone-cold Mrs. Cha. She really needs a very strong wake-upper to jolt her back to reality. She does not even care that IQ is blaming her dad for what happened to Well Being. As if it was JN's fault that their infant products contained melamine. She does not even realize that her dad stands to lose his job if he made the error of helping Well Being for the sake of DH's job and the cleaning contract. It's not as if Well Being will give her dad a job if he had helped. Stupid MS.
As for the rest, well... I wish KLM will suffer something like what happened to the Seo's. That will shut him up and relieve OB of the burden of being ashamed towards the family about his dad's actions. SolJi to meet a handsome and worthy guy. MS with SolJi's friend and MG to be found out by the whole family. We know OB's got her suspicions so maybe she will be the one (again) to discover what's the real score between him and KH. She seems to be at the right place at the right time, most of the time, isn't she?

I like the happiness that showed in DH's face when he saw OB home. And the scene in the bedroom when they were both lying in bed. Still with watching pajamas! OB's PJs got pink hearts, DH has got blue ones. I do not know what happened in the interchange but it seems that DH is finally opening up to OB more. DH has a difficult role in that family. He was a student who has to accept tutoring jobs to earn money for school expenses. He met MR who seduced him before he fell in love with her (if ever) or was forced into the situation because she got pregnant. He decided to take care of his child which gave his family great burden (hopefully no scandal). So he does not want to give them any more reasons that will sadden them. Then he found out he was adopted. So again, he's forever grateful to his family for taking him in and considering him as their first born. DH is a very good team leader, a proactive boss, a constructive thinker and decisive. It is only where his family is concerned that he is getting reticent. I do hope that he and OB will form a great team against the opposition. OB's reactions right now may be due to hormonal changes (tee hee, hoping she'll be on the family way soon).
DR on the other hand needs some serious disciplining. His attitude is really like that of MG's. With all those adults around him he has not been taught the proper behavior that should be exhibited by a child his age. He always want to get his own way, pouting when he's received a denial. Seriously, he does not even get his elders' permission to go out on his own. I remember OB giving him some whacks when he first disappeared, taking the folder to OB's office. It was the first time he received some minor beating. OB did that again when DR went to the bus station to wait for her. But it did not have the desired effect. I think OB will be able to instill discipline on this kid when she finds him later. He does not even have the instinct to let his elders know his whereabouts. Granted he called OB to say that he's going with Hyori to her house to play but going out with another person in a different scenario. He told Hyori but did not remember to call OB.
KH is totally clueless which is weird. She had been given so many clues before about the ill deeds on his in-laws. Oh well, she'll find out in time. MG is a lost cause. He is so self-centered. SolJi should hook up with Gicheol. They look good together and that would give MG a reason to notice SolJi. MS is weak where SJun is concerned. I was beginning to like her when she was standing up to SJun, IQ and the plastic girlfriend. Then she reverts back to being the weak person that she is. UGH! As if her dad will get a job or IQ will be willing to give her dad a job if he loses his current one just to help Well Being.
Retributions seems to be coming one after the other now. IQ does not have the backing she was hoping for from the future in-laws. KH's in-laws are also feeling the pinch. It's about time. They have had their heyday. Now for OB's dad and MR's dad...and MR herself. For two episodes we did not hear IQ screeching but she was back to her arrogant self for part of episode 103. Sheeesh, doesn't she get tired of doing that? I don't even like her other clothes, like the black tight blouse and the long skirt...hello Elvira!!!
Jeez, it's a long post. Sorry about this. Hope to see more HanBok scenes next week as they join forces to "rescue" DR.

Wow this is my first post. I've been lurking here to get ahead of the story. I am actually way behind since the last episode I saw that is subbed in English is Episode 30. Although I cannot understand Korean, this thread helps a lot. I just finished watching the raw Episode 89. I am still rooting for the HanBok couple. They really have great chemistry on screen. I wish there will be more scenes with them in it as well as DN now that he has introduced Oh Bok as his eomma to his school mates. Tee hee. I loved the way Oh Bok "man-handled" Dae Han when he tried to escape from her interrogation. LOL. He did not realize hat he can be overpowered by a wee wife named Oh Bok.
Thank you very much tiki_sg for all the recaps, spoilers and insights. The drama is almost approaching the end of its run and I hope I will be able to watch the whole thing with English subbed.
Hats off to you tiki. Looking forward to more recaps for this lovable and heartwarming drama.

I am loving this show so I hope SBS will give it a fair chance. Right now the cast members are closer to each other and that bond will get stronger. We witnessed their struggles and shared their pain. The diving episodes showed us their personal and normal side, not the one behind the glitter, make up, idol persona, etc. We see them as the human beings that they are,bare of the celebrity layer and we get the chance to see what gives them strength, what makes them fight, what they are thinking, and what made them what they are, the celebrities that millions adore.
Episode 15 is a winner in every sense.
