here's one more article regarding his wedding plans

Jang, Ko to tie knot in May

Jang Dong-gun and Ko So-young, whom some call the Korean version of Brangelina, will get married in May, a local sports daily reported yesterday. The date, although yet to be confirmed, will likely be the 15th.

A source close to Jang told the daily: "Jang's getting married in May has become a fact. He recently refused to renew his modeling contract with apparel maker Giordano, saying that he is too old for the post, but it is speculated that the decision was due to his wedding schedule."

The two, known to have been dating for more than two years, revealed their relationship to the public in November.

Since then, they are known to have begun wedding preparations. The two's parents also reportedly met during the lunar New Year holidays last month.

According to the report, Jang has been seeing to printing wedding invitations and booking the wedding venue. The couple is said to be considering The Shilla Seoul's Youngbin Hall. The hall is currently undergoing a renovation but is set to reopen May 15.

Jang is expected to formally announce wedding plans at his fan meeting on March 6 at COEX Auditorium in Samsung-dong, Seoul.

i found the article regarding Hye Kyo Movie "The Gand Master" in Dramabeans

    *****

    Song Hye-gyo, an action star?

    shk_71.jpg

Song Hye-gyo is currently in China working on her next role in The Grand Master, the martial arts movie directed by renowned Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai, and will apparently be displaying some “real action” skills in the film.

The Grand Master stars Tony Leung as Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man, and also features Chang Chen and Zhang Ziyi. Each of the actors has been outfitted with specialized protective gear that has been made especially for this film, to prevent injury while upping the realism of the fight scenes. The guards are made of silicone and fitted to each actor's body to move with them and, as they are lightweight, remain undetected underneath clothing. As Song Hye-gyo is reportedly using these guards in filming, we can look forward to seeing her in action. (It'll be an interesting sight, that's for sure; Song has always been known for her femininity and beauty, so a martial arts action film will be a complete turnaround from her existing image.)

Song has been traveling back and forth between Korea and China since December, and has been diligently practicing her Chinese language and martial arts skills. The Grand Master recently began filming, and is planning for a release in the second half of next year.

Lee Byung-hun tests his star power with online film project

    201003020056.jpg

"The Influence," produced by Windsor Entertainment and Realize Pictures, has three parts, the first of which will be unveiled today at its homepage (www.the-djc.com).

Lee Jae-kyu, who makes a directorial debut with the online mystery flick, has gained reputation with his popular TV dramas such as "Damo" and "Beethoven Virus."

The mystery film, set in a time period between 1907 and 2010, stars the Korean Wave heartthrob Lee, Han Chae-young, Chun No-min, and Kim Tae-woo. Lee plays a guide named W for a highly secretive place, Diamond Jubilee Club, where time and space get entangled over promises made years ago, with lethal consequences lurking.

W appears to be romantically related to J (Han Chae-young), a beautiful woman who for some reason gets trapped in a giant water tank. Into the complex relationship between W and J enters an auctioneer (Chun No-min), who is forced to make an irreversible and potentially precarious decision at the club.

Lee Byung-hun, whose soaring popularity in Korea and Japan is comparable to Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon, recently boosted his profile outside Asia last year by playing a supporting role in a Hollywood flick "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra."

Byung-hun, who proved his star power with the high-profile action drama "IRIS," is now attempting to extend his influence to the Web by playing a title role for an online film project.

Korean actor Gong Yoo successfully wrapped up his fan meetings in Japan over the weekend, his first in three years since being discharged from the military last December, according to his agency N.O.A. Entertainment.

The actor met with some 7,000 fans -- including those from Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan -- at the fan meetings held in Kobe on February 26 and Yokohama two days later.

"I am truly grateful to fans who remembered me and waited for me for the past two years," the actor was quoted as saying. "I will repay them for their continued support with good work."

The Korean actor performed several songs at the sold-out events including a self-written tune for fans and "Nothing Better", a duet with Korean singer Jung Yeop.

He also unveiled photographs from his childhood while revealing anecdotes from his military days and trip to Hakone after being discharged.

For the fan event in Yokohama, over 70 Japanese media companies turned up for its press conference and executives from the Japanese entertainment industry attended the meeting itself to see the Hallyu star.

Gong Yoo, whose real name is Gong Ji-cheol, debuted in 2001 in the KBS TV series "School 4". He has appeared in more than a dozen television dramas and films, including the 2003 film "My Tutor Friend" alongside Hallyu stars Kwon Sang-woo and Kim Ha-neul.

He became a household name throughout Asia after starring in the 2007 hit TV series "The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince" with actress Yoon Eun-hye.

Three-dimensional footage of Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon's Tokyo Dome event from last year will be shown in theaters throughout Japan, according to his agency on Thursday.

The "Bae Yong-joon 3D in Tokyo Dome 2009", a 90 minute-long live video from the event, will open in some 100 3D theaters on May 22, KEYEAST announced in a press release.

"Viewers will be able to relive the event by seeing it on the large screens of 3D theaters with high-quality sound," an official at KEYEAST was quoted as saying. "We expect it to be a special experience for viewers and move their hearts at the same time."

The presentation, filmed by six 3D cameras at the site, will feature live shots from the two-day event; the premiere party for the animated version of his hit TV series "Winter Sonata" on September 29 and the promotional event for his photo essay “Discovering the Beauty of Korea” the following day.

The much-hyped event attracted some 90,000 fans to Tokyo Dome, who showed up to see Bae and his "Sonata" co-star Choi Ji-woo, and was broadcast live via satellite in theaters around the country.

The 37-year-old actor shot to mega-stardom in Asia with the success of 2002 KBS TV series "Sonata" and gained a huge following in Japan in particular, where he earned the nickname "Yonsama".

His photo essay "Discovering" contains self-taken photographs of various cultural artisans the actor met during his year-long travel around Korea. He authored the book in order to introduce Korean culture such as food, tradition and travel locations.

Bae is currently doing voice-over work for the animation version of "Sonata", which currently airs on Japan's DATV.

Park says career success does not quench one's thirst for love

    2010020416071400971_1.jpg

"Still, Marry Me" actors (from left to right): Park Jin-hee and Kim Bum [MBC]

"You shouldn't be like that with someone who is around your mom's age", Ban-suk (played by Choi Chul-ho) says to Min-jae (Kim Bum) upon seeing a seemingly intimate picture of him and Shin-young (played by Park Jin-hee) together. That comment Ban-suk made during preview showing of a scene shown for the press on the set of "Still, Marry Me" on February 2 may probably speak for what all viewers of the show probably feel. And like so, there are a couple of scenes in the drama that the public can relate to but some which also brings several questions to mind. Why is the story about a couple composed of woman who is older than the man and why does it focus on the topic of marriage? These questions were asked during a press conference attended by director Kim Min-sik, actress Park Jin-hee and actor Kim Bum.

Q: How does it feel to play a couple where the woman is older?

Kim Bum (Kim): I like the role but I think Park Jin-hee is tired. Yesterday's shoot wrapped up just this morning.

Park Jin-hee (Park): Other than the fact that it is physically draining, I am very happy to be shooting the drama.

Q: The expressions of affection between your two characters can be a bit too lovey-dovey at times.

    Park: Really? Which scene?

Kim: There are some scenes where I cringe too but you haven't seen it all yet. (laugh)

Park: I think it's at a pretty normal level up until the fourth episode. We've been trying to anticipate how intensive it gets -- to the point where we can't wait for the script for the following episodes to come out. So it's a bit iffy when you put it that way. (laughs) What I will tell you though is that we shot a scene where we share a scarf together.

Q: What is the reaction towards you guys as a couple due to the large age gap?

Kim: People around us were worried when the pilot episode aired. And there really is quite a large age gap between us so I was worried we would really look like a couple when we stand next to each other. But people who have watched our show have told me we look better together than they expected and have encouraged me to work harder.

Park: I actually thought he would be a baby because of his actual age. I think that's why I was skeptical in a way in the beginning but Kim Bum is very mature and masculine so it's been easy shooting with him.

    2010020416071400971_2.jpg

Actress Park Jin-hee (left) and actor Kim Bum [MBC]

Q: Can you give us an example?

Park: We were talking about birthdays at one of the get-togethers off shoot and he bought me a winter supply kit. Another example is that when some of the female characters were shooting a party scene, some were revealing quite revealing clothes and he brought over blankets and a heater for them. Whenever he acts older, I ask him, "Did you lie about your age?" Unlike people from his generation, he says 'primary school' instead of 'elementary school'. (laughs)

Q: So what the meaning of this sort of relationship in "Marry"?

Kim Min-sik (Kim MS): Single women in their mid-30s probably don't trust men who are around their age or older. They probably suspect that there is something wrong with them. (laughs). And the men that seem okay are taken and so I don't think deciding to go out with a guy who is younger isn't about making an extreme decision or fulfilling a fantasy. What's important is not the fact that the woman is the older one in the relationship but that it's a decision a woman in her mid-30s, with her work and philosophy in life, has made.

Park: When I first received the synopsis, I actually told the producer that it's hard for me to relate to the story because of the big difference in age. There is a scene in the drama where Da-jung (played by Uhm Ji-won) talks about the age difference between Min-jae and Shin-young but I think Korean society has yet to become ready to accept it. However, upon shooting episodes five and six recently, I've come to realize there is an emotional part that you can't control rationally. I think it can't be helped because my character happens to fall in love with a guy who turns out to be 12 years younger. She didn't fall in love with him because he is that young.

Q: Do you think it's possible for such a relationship to work out in reality too?

Park: If the two have a connection and can converse with each other, it doesn't matter if the person is 12 years younger or older because age is merely a number. The important thing is how that relationship starts and whether you come across that opportunity to meet a younger guy. There aren't many opportunities you get to meet a younger man but if you come across that chance and both share the same feelings, I think it could be possible.

Kim: I think it's possible. Since I started working at an early age, I've mostly talked to or received advice from people who were older than me. I'm so used to that, that I feel uncomfortable when I meet people who are the same age or younger than me. I also think you can see someone regardless of nationality or race, as long as you can talk to each other.

    2010020416071400971_3.jpg

    Producer Kim Min-sik [MBC]

Q: Then why is the drama so lenient in creating a couple with such a big age gap but so focused on the woman getting married?

Kim MS: The title of the show is "Still, Marry Me" but it should actually be "Still, Love Me." People may think why would a successful woman need that? But no matter how successful a woman is, aren't they still thirsty for love? To find the man that they truly love?

Park: Even for me, I work hard, I'm healthy and I try to live life to the fullest but love is difficult to find. Whether is be my guy or girl friends at a get-together, we'll start out by talking about how our stocks are doing or how they got a raise for their paychecks but we'll end up talking about our first loves or dating. I think that shows how important love is as a driving force and that thirst does not get quenced despite how successful you are.

Q: Shin-young is a character that women in their 30s can relate to but male viewers may think Min-jae is annoying for being the so-called 'perfect man'. (laughs)

Kim: I don't know... I'm not the type that is conscious of what other people say or think about me but I cut off my Internet at one point because I because so exhausted both mentally and physically. I just don't want to be bothered with what others say, hindering my own judgement about my acting. Even though Min-jae is popular among female viewers, he is a person who doesn't believe in love. He grew up in that kind of surrounding and I think when he meets Shin-young is when he figures out what true love is. I hope to portray that image to the viewers during the latter half of the show.

Q: Women in their 30s will be able to relate to the drama but KBS' "The Slave Hunters" is currently the most-watched Wednesday and Thursday night show. I'm curious to know how you will make the audience watch your show instead.

Kim MS: I knew from the start that "The Slave Hunters" would not be easy competition. But scenarist Kim In-young has put in a lot of effort into the script and has endurance so we'll go with the story we agreed to show since the planning stages of the drama. There's a lot of humor in the beginning of the show but will increasingly revolve around love and end up talking about deadly love. Not the 'because of so and so' type love but the 'madly, cannot help falling in despite' type of love. That's how we are rolling for the show, with whatever the writers have prepared for us and I as the producer and the actors will try our best to deliver a story.

    and Bae Yong-joon [KBS]

A number of Korean television dramas are set to air in several Central and South American countries, according to Korean public broadcaster KBS on Monday.

KBS Media, who sells the network's programs overseas, announced that they sold the popular TV series "Winter Sonata"(2002) and "Autumn in My Heart"(2000) to Hispanic distributor Latin Media at the "NATPE 2010" conference, held January 25 thru 27 in Las Vegas.

"NATPE 2010", which stands for the National Association of Television Program Executives, is an annual event attended by television industry officials from all around the world.

Many more Korean dramas -- including "Boys Over Flowers", "Full House" and "Mr. Goodbye" -- have broadcasting contract in pending, KBS said, after which they are set to air in Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.

The Korean broadcaster had been airing its dramas in Central and South American countries for free so far to expand its market and gain viewers. In 2006, "Winter Sonata" and "Autumn in My Heart" were broadcast in 11 countries in the region through a promotional alliance with Korea Foundation.

Hallyu dramas will be shown Arab countries as well. KBS Media is reportedly processing a deal with the region's satellite broadcaster Middle East Broadcasting Center to air the hit 2009 dramas "Boys Over Flowers" and "My Fair Lady".

Actor Lee Byung-heon appears on CNN Talk Asia

    201012215521444554.jpg

Things are only getting better for Korea's top actor Lee Byung-hun, age 39. Nearly two decades after his first debut in 1991, he's become one of the most romantic heroes of Korean soap operas, a ruthless killer in numerous movies and overall, a major heartthrob all across Asia.

The year 2009 was especially rewarding for him both at home and abroad, with his first Hollywood debut "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" hitting high at the box office and his spy thriller drama "Iris" at home earning him a grand prize at the 2009 KBS Acting Awards.

CNN Talk Asia just uploaded video footage of its previous interview with Lee on Wednesday (Jan. 20). The footage goes back to Lee on the red carpet last October at the Pusan International Film Festival as he talked about his acting career, his experience with dramas and movies and his future plans after his successful debut in Hollywood.

Lee confessed that he tried to turn down the offer to play the role of Storm Shadow in "G.I. Joe" at first, not knowing what it was. But with much prodding from his acquaintances, especially from director Park Chan-wook, noted for the movie "Old Boy" that won wide critical acclaim, Lee decided otherwise. G.I. Joe attracted 280 million viewers, grossing over US$300 million. With a sequel in the making, Lee has signed up for that, too.

In his interview, Lee also mentioned the changing times, saying that only few years ago, Korean actors making it in Hollywood was but a dream. "But now it is reality," he said.

The world "Hallyu (Korean Wave)" was also touched upon during the interview, with the reporter asking why Koreans are so much into soaps. Lee explained that it was the degree of reality put into them. "Korean dramas tend to show real life, small things, small emotions and small twists." In a similar vein, he also explained why Asia is obsessed with South Korean pop culture. "It's the family thing, love, hate, they can feel the emotions."

CNN said that according to Lee, his best work is yet to come. "I'm trying to be patient, especially in my work. I'm not doing this job as a joke. I have to persuade my audience with my acting and emotions," Lee said.

Last Friday (Jan 15) Lee won his most recent award, the Asia Star Award lauded for his contribution to promoting Asian cultural content, bestowed by Korea Model Association at the Asia Model Awards. The Asia Model Awards, the biggest fashion festival of its kind now in its fifth year, is participated in by only the top models of 13 Asian countries under the slogan "Asia is One." The ceremony was broadcast to 21 Asian countries.

Lee's next project is "The Influence," a mystery mini-series with a story that revolves around a promise that refuses to go away over time and characters who are faced with tough decisions to keep that promise. It is made up of three parts, totaling up to 60 minutes and will be released online in March, 2010.

Korean pop idol Kim Hyun-joong of SS501 recently attended former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan's 80th birthday party, according to his agency DSP Media on Tuesday.

"Before attending a birthday party for [DSP agency CEO] Mr. Lee Ho-yeon, Kim stopped by the reception for former president Chun Doo-hwan with Mr. Lee," an official at DSP Media was quoted as saying.

The official explained that Kim was scheduled to attend Lee's dinner party with his bandmates but when Lee received a call from Chun's party, the two briefly dropped by the event together. The agency stressed that "it had just happened" and asked that "there be no misunderstandings."

Kim, 23, is the leader of boy band SS501, one of the most successful K-pop acts in Asia since their debut in 2005. The singer has also done some acting work, most notably in the smash hit drama "Boys Over Flowers" last year alongside actors Lee Min-ho and Koo Hye-sun.
