What an odyssey withou OG lee seunggi and Sunmi OYS?

what the hell is that? Who will beat these teo chemistry? That sounds absurd

people want season 2 because of this couple that's what i'm reading on Naver right now.

people want LSG- OYS pairing back with a happy ending. I can imagine the cursing from knetz if they ever change the otp. They've been saying no chemistry is like them

and OG going to kidnap Sunmi from after life is because he can't wait for he lr to be reincarnated or whatever. He wants her immortal hence with giving her one of his eyes

OG loves Sunmi because she is sunmi.

i'd rather watch a diff drama if they change the actress or Sunmi suddenly change into a typical bubbly cute  female lead

actuslly just give me 20 -30 min special to finish their story then i'm more than happy

What if we get a Sassy Girl version of OYS? Or at least somebody who is happy and isn't living life wearing black? Somebody who doesn't remember growing up with sadness, loss, and abandonment?

  2. ^ What if they only keep LSG?

MW and his dog secretary and son = you don't need them anymore. Their story is complete except probably cameos (which I'm sure the actor would do in a heartbeat). Because OG packed his bag and drove off into the sunset, he left all the other cast behind.

They could bring back the original actress who played SM, yes.... but they don't have to if they go the reincarnation route. :) Keep in mind, when OG was going to go on a journey the last time (the book seller episode), they were talking about 50 years going by without a thought. So probably enough time for another SM to be born and grow up. Especially if she's half deity thanks to her extra eyeball. :D  <= That would mess up the Euridice references/inferences that they were putting out there, but I'm actually not too upset about seeing the female lead played by somebody a bit more lively and happy + bringing back LSG as OG (we love LSG and I think we all absolutely loved his characterization of OG too LOL).

In the series that we just watched, SM's character was reserved and sad for the most part. Lot of crying or teary eyes. I think that the character was intended to be a tragic person who was destined to get killed or otherwise be left behind.

****I stand by what I said earlier. I don't think with the current loop (OG reclaiming his bride from the afterlife) has enough plot to require a second season. IF we are just looking for him to go get her and bring her back, that could have been done in a 1-5 minute scene. I also think that majority of viewers who watched this series only to get kiss/sex scenes between the primary characters are not going to be happy about a second season where they are apart and the whole plot is him finding her.

But I also do not mind getting more OG + like I said, it would have been fun seeing him meet a completely different SM and falling in love with her all over again. That's either a different actress OR the original actress portraying a completely different attitude towards life. :)

  3.

    OK - watched both episodes.

Small thing to throw out there... anyone who is upset at the ending (as rushed as it seemed).... you haven't truly watched enough korean dramas lately. :)

Watch something like Marriage Contract. The main couple end up together, but with a time limit because she was dying. And before she died you knew it was going to get very bad because she had brain cancer. Literally the show ended in a very bittersweet way and it wasn't a fantasy with a god as a main character who could believably go to the next world to bring her back and keep her from dying ever again. That seriously was the last drama that had me CRYING at the end. And those main characters believably really had chemistry. There was this kiss in the rain where they were totally full contact kissing with wandering hands that um... was pretty hot.   Bridal Mask was the other one which completely devastated me and I was not made happy by the glory and hurrah of that ending because that show just broke me by what they chose to do there with the main couple.

And if you want to see LSG in something a lot more happy - watch King2Hearts and You are All Surrounded. There's really tragic parts in both shows (yep, had me crying), but you have the main characters together and smooching at the end.

Nothing bad about Korean Odyssey which I really love too. I'm planning to buy the DVD when it comes out. I actually LOVED the fact that they transitioned into OG's last scene with the upbeat "hey-hey-hey-hey-guitar solo" music (LOL)... and he took his monkey statue with (and how did it fit in his suitcase? LOL).... and I wish people who know Korean geography better than me could take a stab at where he was driving.

The funny thing was being Western and all that - my brain was initially broken trying to figure out what this "underworld" would be? Because generalized question I asked was "don't they all just waft around until it's time to be reborn???" LOL. Then I remembered my Kamisama Hajimemashita and really hope that poor SM didn't end up in the Korean version that place. o_O

***Almost forgot. He gave SM one of his demon eyes (or monkey god eyes???). My first thought was he did that because she'd still be able to see OTHER THINGS if he brings her back. Meaning the part of her that was SJ would likely be gone so she'd really be an ordinary human without the gift of the eye. It also was a connection between them.

I was also puzzling over what he said about being able to recognize her no matter what shape she is in. I trying to guess whether they were implying he was covering his bases in case she is reincarnated before he gets to her. And uh, the eye will prevent her from turning out like Princess Iron Fan post MW/BR/OG taking the hits for her - ie, clean slate, not remembering anything from her past life, etc....

Am I overthinking the eye thing?

  4. Haven't watched the last 2 episodes yet..... so maybe I'll feel cheated after all when I do watch them? :)

But my perspective on the ending on reading the recap = it's fine.

Seriously, it would have been better if they showed him driving the OTHER WAY on that bridge and reaching down to hold somebody's hand and showing the rings before showing him smiling and fading out. That would have been more closure than the buildup of hope which the writers left us with.

If they add one more minute to the last episode to SHOW this, I'd be very happy.

But buildup of hope = fine.

    I don't think they need a 2nd season.

I don't think there's enough plot for a 2nd season. Or not enough plot without UNDOING everything that was neatened up at the end of 20?

OG and SM are already in love, they've already consummated that love, and they are already sworn to find each other and live hea. They aren't "together" at the end, but it seems pretty clear that they WILL BE. There was no where else to go. Even "marriage" was already DONE in the series.

All other ends have been tied up neatly.

    Hold hands ✔,

    back hug

JSM's being jealous with other girls✔,

    Pat on the head✔,

    laying head on SOG's lap✔,

^^^^ We already have had 2 wedding scenes (Ep2 and Ep9), 2 proposals (Ep 9 and Ep12), and according to ASN's definition of marriage... that happened too. :)

Along the line someone mentioned “statutory rape” for another popular drama. But I think she might have mixed up? It only happened when they met again, 10yrs later. And she is 29YO by then.

But she became his bride with him falling for her while she was a teenager in school.... and he looked like he was pushing 40. o_O Sorry this was OT.

On topic - am wondering why we haven't gotten a preview yet!

And does anyone want to place bets on whether they will "backtrack" from where ep18 left off??? :D

In the episode with the Heron, in her conversation with OG and SM, she told them when baby SJ was born its blood saved many lives (during an epidemic).  So, my take is that SM has always been SJ and that it played a part in her unhappy childhood, so it went with her child's soul into the book.

Yep. I added something similar to my post....

I don't have any issue with her being SJ as a baby... probably makes sense that the crane lady was there to protect her early on, if that was the case.

And makes you wonder if her grandma was some kind of guardian as well. She knew the blood could be dangerous, but it wasn't clear if it was dangerous since she was a baby or if that was something that started after...

Would assume that if grandma lived close to the orphanage/hospital (I forget what it was) that she interacted with the crane guardian or learned how to keep SM safe from her.

I still think that the whole full  SJ thing did not begin until after she met up with MW and OG.

Also. :) Would be interesting to know more about whether her gift of sight comes from being SJ from the beginning, or if it came by way of the usual story (died briefly and came back).

Oh, good point you bring up! If SM was SJ from the day she was born, then the contract with OG should have transferred to the bookseller, but the bookseller couldn't have taken over as SJ, so why did SM stop becoming SJ, e.g. SM's blood no longer affect BJ and MW? The only thought that I had about it is that for whatever reason, it had still been dormant and hidden that SM was SJ while SM was still a child. So that when the bookseller took away SM's childhood, the SJ's obligation went dormant again as well.

The way I got it was she was born to be SJ, but did not become SJ until AFTER she turned OG loose from his marble mountain. They said that she did not smell like lotus flowers until AFTER she turned OG loose. Her blood was apparently not delish until AFTER she turned OG loose (the scene with the tree happened possibly 1-2 years after, and her grandma was dead and promising that OG would come back and take care of her).

If she had never met MW and never interacted with and turned OG loose (including making that contract with OG), she probably would never have become SJ.

***Alternatively, could simply be that everything extraordinary about SM was stripped away by the book lady. That was her childhood right up to the point when she "came of age" and became SJ for reals (after freeing OG and making her contract with him).

The bookman episode per MW in ep18 was the point when it was clear that OG was in love with SM. So who knows, maybe that was the point when it had no power anymore. Remember we all were trying to figure out why the GGG wasn't working for the book monster. :) This past episode gives us one other reason why.

  10. Anyone who thinks that SM was raping OG needs to go back and watch the episode where SM's body was taken over by ASN who then spent a good chunk of the episode chasing OG around and trying to "marry" him.

OG was freaked out to the extent that he was begging MW to let him sleep with HIM.

That was also the second time that something/somebody else tried taking over control of OG. The book lady was the first one before ASN.

Fairly sure that ASN-in-SM-Body episode made it clear that the GGG could not "make" OG do anything he didn't want to. And SM knows that.

  11. 1. I laughed OUT LOUD over the part with MW putting on the tiara. :D + The continuation of that with SM and the shop kid putting it on. It was a plot device to set up OG taking his GGG off, but I loved it.

    2. The part with MW and the shop kid was so good. It was obvious + clear + definite that they were setting up a connection between the two, especially when the kid calls him back to get his umbrella and the two exchanged a look.

    3. The shopkeeper showing up randomly when SM needed her seemed to definitely be a clue in that she's not just a shopkeeper. :)

    4. I glazed over with the talk of the artifacts....

    5. Was disappointed that they revealed the Candidate's past and nothing happened. Wasn't the little girl supposed to kill everyone who knew?????

6 The ending of this episode both made me happy + scared me. Made me think they are setting up for OG to get killed....

    7. ASN is wavering in this episode. Makes me wonder if as the other shaman in the episode, if she will actually be the one to take in the dragon and be killed. Keep in mind she was the one who said that she can change the death fate. This might be the way...  and it seems they are setting up for the end since zombie's mom is dead.

From the stills, it's like KDS tells SOG something, KDS seems to talk about SM maybe? He looks to the other direction while handling a glass of wine for him, ooohh.. how rude he is!our monkey can't drink that! Then, SOG will excuse himself to leave, passes to him, he might whispers him some more words, whoaaahh.. what is actually he said to provoke SOG?? I guess, I'm reading too much just from pieces of stills.

The drunk scene, isn't it for showing up on ep 17?

Or OG is completely blowing off KDS.... :)

I seriously don't know what ASN can do at this point. Her power is gone and she looks stupid?

She can eat people whole in a matter of seconds.... somehow???? :)

Other thing to note after seeing a translation of the ep 17 preview...

Somebody says "Sam Jang could see (or saw) the future" and something about going to where the vision happened. <= The person speaking, was that KDS????

Also, in the still pictures above.... why is Buja dressed up like SM? I did a double-take yesterday when saw them. :D

***I read the description of Guan Yin and while I don't have a problem with the shopkeeper being that person, I do think that SM fits the bill better - especially since as she's coming into her power (or the power she inherited from ASN), she's using it to help people around her. And her life before the series began was all about her using her gift of sight to help cross souls over and/or get rid of them. And right down to her promising to come help OG if he calls her. Other versions of Guan Yin (Kannon) are supposed to prevent disasters....

Also, she has already promised OG to come to him whenever he is scared, in danger, or in pain....

Other (separate) thought.... The fact that there were other SJ's before SM seems to suggest that there is no eternal rewards for the SJ person. Basically it seems like this person is being punished repeatedly like MW's wife was and is being forced to endure repeated lives where they live to a certain age, come into their power and must be killed to save the world. Which yikes. That stinks....

  14. So crazy question.... looking up Princess Iron Fan on wiki, there's mention of a "Red Boy" (lol at the name) who does battle against OG's character over the Sam Jang character (it's not clear whether Red Boy took Sam Jang hostage or what).

Red Boy has major league fire powers and almost kills OG's character, forcing OG's character to ask for help from a goddess of compassion/kindness/mercy (Guan Yin) who was born of the lotus. And/or is frequently shown standing on a dragon or sitting on a lotus.

The crazy question is - brush away all the speculation about SM being MW's kid, what if the writers actually stick closer to the original story? Will we see a Red Boy????? o_O

Other than that - lotus = symbol for purity and reincarnation. Which probably is troubling to those hoping for a bed scene + that SM doesn't get killed... :)

It's kind of funny how people are ignoring the facts wishing for SM to be MW's child. I mean it was clearly told that the baby is male. And it also does not go about reincarnation. The child stayed alive so his soul could not have been reincarnated in another *form* or gender.

I agree it would make an interesting twist in the plot for SM being MW's daughter. Not to mention it would raise to a new level this cute love-hate relationship between MW&OG.  Yeah, I know it'd be hilarious!

But honestly even if the child is not a shop owner's *grandson* (though I still believe it's him) it can't be SM. I doubt that Hong sisters would make MW hungry for his own child's flesh & blood. That may be tragic in a way but more than that it would be sick and perverted.

As for the question whether the child is alive or not. He sure is alive. You can clearly see it from Soobori's face when MW was interrogating him about it.

I think it would be interesting and make a lot more sense to the core story if SM turns out to be MW/Nachal's kid....

And it also makes sense and is interesting if KDS turns out to be MW/Nachal's kid - as in setting up something as far as MW going bad. There's some wonky things going on with that family which implies there's something far back behind them. But I'm not getting any demon spawn vibes from him, so probably not.

The core story goes back to what happened 1000 years ago, of which we have just been getting tiny pieces of information.

MW and Nachal had been separated at the time that she was apparently pregnant with their kid. She was chased out of heaven and killed (her jumping off the cliff/clouds/whatever) and if pregnant at the time, it would explain why MW never asked whether she had saved the kid or not.

Somebody in a prior post mentioned something about Nachal devouring children to save her child - and asked WHO those kids were and how exactly they saved Nachal's child.... <= Which I hope we find out and whether that's connected to everything else. o_O

1000 years ago, OG betrayed Nachal by failing to deliver her fan to MW.

1000 years ago, OG might have done something to cause SG's death. And this is possibly why he was being punished. It doesn't really make sense that the heavens would punish him for failing to deliver the fan to MW (who wasn't a god). This means that he was already being punished when she was sentenced to death.

1000 years ago, OG was betrayed by a human. <= ASN? Or her King?????

1000 years ago, ASN saved SG by putting her in WG's body.

1000 years ago, ASN was betrayed by the guy she was probably in love with and who she "called" a dragon for. Instead of marrying her, he killed her and locked her spirit up under the guardianship of SOMETHING (whatever was in that tree). She was a human being but apparently crazy powerful to the point that both gods and men were scared of her.

1000 years ago, the heavens presumably began recycling the Sam-Jang fate in human beings.

A Sam-Jang is a very special human who literally is a King maker because of their very special blood + they apparently are the ideal vessel for a very big bad demon to take possession of and completely destroy the world. Or as they come into their powers. Presumably a demon/god cross (MW/Nachal kiddo) might have such an offspring who is reborn every so often. And each time that demon/god has to be put down.

One scary thing about SM's newfound powers is they are out of control. She's doing stuff when upset. Which is "cool" right now, but she's probably capable of doing really bad stuff....

And BR told MW that the child is dead. He said it pretty quick, mind you which implies that there is something he was hiding...  mainly thought it occurs to me that the standard rule that the "gods" and demons are following is they cannot tell a lie. Even SOG is super careful about avoiding telling a lie even while tricking people (go back to EP 2 when he's asked twice about whether SM is his bride, he avoids answering rather than lying + he's gotten in trouble with SM for being honest to the point that he dodges more now vs telling hurtful truths or lying). So they are either throwing red herrings out there or distracting or dodging when it comes to situations where they do not want to tell the truth.

The grandkid at the shop "could" be MW's kid... I guess? But the funny thing is his mannerisms remind me more of SOG. LOL.

  16. Random thought.... the doctor was the previous guardian to the previous SJ.

And it seems that after she killed the previous SJ, she later on was given charge of the next SJ.

Meaning the flashback scenes with her taking care of baby SM.

So makes me think that the baby that just randomly showed up for OG might be the next SJ.

When the doctor said it wasn't time yet... maybe she meant that the baby shouldn't have shown up until after OG had killed SJ???

    Thinking aloud....

People are talking about Goblin, but I'm getting Fushigi Yuuigi vibes (priestesses selected to gather together a group of people to perform a ceremony to bring to life a god who will then devour the priestesses something about preventing chaos).

Also. :) IF there is a happy ending to this series and a satisfying one... I'm planning to buy it. That's a bigger deal than ratings which are pretty meaningless tbh when you consider how many people following the series are not watching it live.

I haven't watched the full raw of ep 15, but i want to share something that stuck in my mind while reading all the comments here.

@immortal_piglet i ever watched JTTW the version that MW child is a girl, call Qiqi. It will be fun if MW child is SM.

But based on ep 15, logically if SM is MW daughter then what is the benefits for ASN to tell MW that his child is still alive? It could be more disadvantage for ASN to let MW knows his child is JSM, MW could kill ASN the seconds he knows it. So my guess, MW child will be a boy, whether the boy is the president candidate or the grandson of magic shop or the baby found in Sureumdong.

I can't figure out how to post pictures (figured it out)....  but if anyone is watching ep 15 and checks out the scene where the candidate and his assistant are checking out the sarcophagus and talking about the king maker or whatever history, you can see a picture of what looks like a bull's head hanging over the doorway behind them. :)

  18. So... anyone placing bets on who stops SM from removing the bracelet this time? :)

And then who is the sword for?

Funny thing to add... with Korean dramas, the first lead male and/or female only kiss the people they will end up with. So I had this in my head going into ep 15 with all the excitement over the still pics and glimpse of a bed scene. And uh, yeah. was thinking that it was not likely that anything would happen between OG and AS in this episode.

Was gratified to see OG was faithful and apparently the GGG did not work OR AS didn't know how to use it in order to command him to do anything for her. And based on the last 2-3 episodes, "marriage" and "wedding" seemed to be a euphemism for doing it.... and she was kinda chasing him through 1/2 the episode and about insisting on sleeping with him....

Still was a funny thing in that they broke that "only kiss the one true love" trope with OG kissing AS in this episode. Then again, maybe they didn't since it was still SM's body.... :D

Also, maybe the writers made a mistake and/or this episode was intended to show that GGG isn't actually compelling the wearer to be madly in love with the other person (ie that the GGG is just sharpening the existing emotions of the wearer). Since he was revolted by AS in SM's body. And you could tell that he loathed her touch in this episode - which is a far cry from his thing about finding everything about SM to be beautiful because he loves her because of GGG.

@VanillaSalt From the things that have been mentioned by the characters so far in the show, we know that Oh Gong was in the heavenly realm as a deity and at least some of his crimes. In this post written before episode 13, I wrote up a summary of Oh Gong's back story as it is told in Journey to the West and pointed out the things that the show has revealed so far to let us know that a lot of those events must have occurred also in this show's version of the story. Since seeing episode 13, there have been even more reveals, so I'd like to add on the following:

In JTTW Oh Gong was locked up for 500 years, but JTTW was published in the 16th century, so for this drama set in modern times, the writers seem to have extended the length of Oh Gong's punishment to about 1,000 years to match. We can infer that because:

    • Oh Gong said that "he stopped counting after 500 years", which indicates that he was locked up for much longer.
    • Na Chal (Princess Iron Fan), Ma Wang's former wife, was punished 1,000 years ago. Na Chal was unable to reunite with Ma Wang before that time, because she had given her fan to Oh Gong and asked him to send it to Ma Wang as a token, but Oh Gong delayed and then was unable to give it to Ma Wang because Oh Gong got locked up in the Five Elements Mountain.
    • Oh Gong knew the Winter General back when he was not so well behaved and comments on how well behaved he has become now. The Summer Fairy was placed into the Winter General's body by Asa Nyeo 1000 years ago. Since Oh Gong made that comment on the WG's behavior change, he probably was not around at the time that the Summer Fairy was placed in the Winter General's body.

A lot of stuff HAPPENED 1000 years ago...

And there you have SM's consciousness being put to bed inside the sarcophagus in what appears to be the same period of time. :warning:

    @Wendy Wang

When SM let the bookseller lock away her childhood self, I get the impression she only got the part of SM which was SJ + had made the contract with OG. I'm not sure why SM's ability to see ghosts was also taken away since that had been something she was born with, but we'll let that slide. :smirk:  The Bookseller could not get OG to be her love swain because (1) he was in love with SM and (2) that love sealed with a kiss was not with the child SM but the grown up SM.

If AN takes over SM's body - presumably, that also means that OG will be very confused. Because a possessed SM body will still likely have some power over the GGG????? It was SM's lips which sealed the deal.... But he'll know it isn't SM in there.....

But SM didn't know what ASN wanted. ASN only told SM about the death bell and that the best way to keep SOG safe, preventing the death bell fate, is for SM to get into the coffin.

The soul switching thing is a little confusing...

    1. ASN is in BJ's body

    2. SM is in ASN's body

Is ASN going to go into SM's body...?

How is that going to turn her into SM...? I'm confused af rn...

Also, is BJ going to be BJ again...?

Edit: Wait, is ASN in BJ's body becoming SJ, and SM is stuck in the dream? If that's the case, then the GGG isn't going to be transferred to ASN bc SOG is obviously in love with SM. Right? OMG I'm so confused

^^^^ Add to that, ASN doesn't HAVE a body. She's borrowing Buja's for that reason.

My eyes bugged out at the idea of her being thrown back into the past (ie reason for her being dressed like a queen).... so many possibilities...

Also - did ASN give up her powers to steal SM's life?

Ok, so I don't participate in this forum that much bc I know if I do, I'll get super distracted from my school work. I've been mostly lurking on Instagram hashtags every week and not question what's happening until I watch. Anyways, I just wanted to know...wtf happened to JSM?? She was buried in the ancient sarcophagus, but why? is she dead? why was she dressed like royalty at the end? someone give me some context? lol

She isn't physically in the sarcophagus. Her soul is though.

Now the question as to why she was dressed like a queen 1000 years ago???? That's something I'm wondering too.

The sarcophagus is in the politician's hands (in his living room??? I dunno) and I expect that he's going to meddle with that in the next episode.

What if....the moment Oh Gong put on the ring and Seon Mi saying she'll protect him if he calls her name is already a contract? That would be interesting

Except the contract asked nothing of him. It was mainly a contract asking stuff of her. And unlike him, it's not like she's compelled to obey any contracts.  :) I think the happy thing though is OG is unlikely to sleep with fake SM when she wakes up in his arms based on him already knowing that fake zombie chick had stolen SM's soul away.

I have to say separately that I love the speculation about who MW's kid was and if they he/she died or not. I have a gut feeling that fake zombie chick has something to do with this. If she turns out to be the daughter of MW and Nachal, that'd be one thing. All the more so since she apparently eats souls (and whole people based on whatever happened to the 2 thugs).  I also love the idea that SM's family line somehow went back to that child. :)
