But the thing is Junghwan isn't even the typical hero we get in dramas. Junghwan is actually nice and treats Deok Sun well. He could be the typical nice second lead we see in dramas. The one thing I've always loved about the reply series is that for all the heroes shortcomings (and Junghwan like any well written character has his) they are nice, decent, good guys, who love and respect our heroine from the get go. What I mean is they are not grabbing wrist, planning rape heist, treating her like dirt, or constantly invading her work, family, and general life. There is a huge difference between being a 'Darcy' male lead and being the 'not another teen movie frat boy a-hole that for some reason unknown to me, the girl's love "changes him" and they are together.

Junghwan has not been changed into a "nice guy" by liking/falling in love with Deok Sun. He was always this good boy we continue to see. If you paid attention to his interactions with friends, family, and even Deok Sun, he's always been good and caring. He's never treated Deok Sun like s**t (playful friends stuff of pranking her by knocking her in the butt or not telling her she's pretty -he's never actually called her ugly, ugly or said something of the such to her face- doesn't count) and in fact he treats her the same as always (he's always noticed her coming and leaving a room and commented on it. He's always enjoyed and laughed at her dancing, etc) He's simply more attentive to her and showing her the softer, caring qualities of a boyfriend. Showing that he is capable of being more than a friend to her (and a good one at that). So no, he's not a tsundere imho (Deok Sun's "special snowflake love" hasn't turned him from the devil to her devoted Angel on earth) nor is he the typical "really I want to kick your richard simmons" bully of a male lead we get (I will never understand the love of Lee Min Ho in Boys Over Flowers, Hyun Bin in Secret Garden, or any of the It Started With A Kiss love. I loath those male leads and that trope with a burning. Too much a-hole, degrading the woman they will come to love for me to tolerate). Junghwan, Trash Oppa, and Yoonjae were nice to our heroine, to friends, to family, respectful towards strangers, good students, etc. I had/have no need to fall for the typically much more decent second male lead because they were even better.

So the whole "So and so characters are actually nice" implying more deserving and that Junghwan is not nice, are invalid imho. All the boys are nice and deserving. However not all of them share the mutual feelings of attraction and growing like/love of wanting more than friendship with one another that Deok Sun and Junghwan share. So in summary: I love Junghwan and if others can't see and appreciate him, MORE FOR ME :)

this this this ! I love how you described junghwan's character. I too never really considered Junghwan as a tsundere-male lead, you explain things really well chingu :)

I'm being very honest: episode 16 is the first episode that makes me doubting that JungHwan is the husband.

And being very honest, the plot(and scenes) seems very repetitive and obvious, it's not even full of surprises anymore.

I'm a little bit disappointed and sad.

    Howeveeeerrrrr,

From this realistic pain we've been suffering since episode 10, I hope we'll get a very realistic resolution for the plot too.

hi chingu. same, im also doubting...my confidence lvl that JH is the end game is now 88 percent lol. can somebody boost my percentage lol

well...i think that maybe TK ask soonyeonie to give JH back the wallet is because they live in the same house...

@wizengamot I think this is the problem with live filming. The production team starts caring about what the fans have to say. They start to analyse who's watching more, and so they try to please them. This makes the writing so much weaker because they have to please fans of actors. By the way, my husband and I started rewatching R1994 last night. Actually, it's his first time to watch R1994. He says he still likes R 1988's family stories. I wonder how he will react to the frustrating episodes from this week when subs are available on Monday night.

@papulichan You sure are bringing on a lot of TK-JH gifs and pics today. I would like to join you at #TeamTaekHwan. They're so cute together.

I wonder how the actors/actresses must feel. They must think it's frustrating, too, when they're given a script and the pace of the story seems off. Or, do they just don't care since they have to act? I think if I were a part of the cast, I would probably feel frustrated and talk to the writer about it. Try to understand where she's going with this roundabout way of telling the story. Or maybe, it's best not to care about the progress of the story at all.

I agree with you. And this is why ( I think ) that sometimes k-drama always sucked towards the end of the series.

It's so frustrating because I keep telling myself the story will get better, but it isn't (well at least for me)

And the fact that I'm in love with JH is not helping either LOL

  5. @wizengamot annyong back ! hihi.

the thing about this drama is, I want to hate it but I cant.  I usually will get really invested in a drama but still ending up dropping it halfway through because I usually feel that things turns boring or worse in the later half of the series. But for reply 1988 I just cant.  I would say I'm pretty emotionally invested in the characters......its not healthy for me hahaha :sweatingbullets:

  6. Hi guys. I'm usually a silent reader as I'm not really good in expressing myself using words. But!!! After watching today's episode I just had to vent my frustration somewhere. And I know I can count on this thread.

So........I was on #teamlowexpectation but still today's ep went below my expectations?? I mean I just want some progression for TK-DS-JH relationship. Well, yes so now Taek's knows that Junghwan likes Deoksun too, and it seems like he too will not confess? Then who will ever ? And it is really frustrating to see Junghwan looking at Deoksun with those eyes but still not making any move. plus, the fact that there's NO sweet OTP moments its not helping either heol.

At this rate, I'm not sure how they are going to wrap up the story nicely with the final 4 episodes. I'm starting to lose hope in the writers and PD. I really really hope they will prove me us wrong. :(  I'm sorry if my rant is bothersome huhu
