Silently read live recaps and now that the show had officially concluded, I can't help but feel sad about it. Tearing up so bad because I'm too attached, yikes! Although it did seem a bit rushed and I wanted to know more about what happened to JH and DR, I can still confidently say that I love this show to pieces.
What I want to say the most is that I can't believe my ship sailed through! I had very low hopes but as the narrative progressed and with the scriptwriter going against the conventions and tropes of Kdramaland, my faith strengthened in DS and TK. My appreciation for the drama's theme is also off the charts because it speaks to your heart that family is and will always be your greatest love. THANK YOU REPLY 1988!
But grrrrrr. I'm quite upset because despite Hyeri and Bogum's undeniable chemistry, we probably won't be seeing them in any projects in the future. (AJKSHASJGKAHGAKJSHGAKJSG HUHUHUHU) Most likely, they can be in commercials but other than that, no. T_T I LOVE MY BABIES GKRJHAJHD
Anyway, it had been a nice cruise with y'all. I love you guys and it had been a blast!

As for Taek and DeokSun fighting, I don't think it's enough to cause the story to jump and make her suddenly marry JungHwan - that would make absolutely no sense in the last 90mins. I figure she might have wanted to keep the relationship under wraps because of sensitivity towards BoRa and SunWoo's situation.
Because Bora and Sunwoo both have 'Sung' as surname. It had been previously mentioned but let me quote it again for others to know as well

As a fan of the entire Reply series and having watched all three installments, I must commend LHR & PBG and RHY & GKP because this season's kisses were two of the best to date in Kdramaland, negl
It takes two to tango and I love how each couple were responsive and it felt very realistic, I couldn't be much happier! Taek and Deoksun's hotel kiss, though. I can feel the thirst, so much, that I could totally understand how Taek just threw himself into Deoksun after realising both reciprocate what they're feeling for one another. Like someone had mentioned, the suppressed feelings, the words left unsaid, the longing for each other-- I just love it so much, I can't find the right adjectives to describe what I'm feeling right now!
Yo, the sound Taek made @0:58 when Deoksun was telling him about her dad's retirement plans was the cutest ever. They're so adorable in this scene that it's hard for me to properly breathe!!!!!!!! Hoping for more lovey-dovey scenes from both 94!DSTK and future!DSTK tomorrow because both pairings are just irresistable ok. I hope PBG can make it to the R88 concert.............

Just saw the preview and omg I'm so stoked for the 19th episode! It seems like the scene wherein DS and TK are in a hotel is when DS finally had the initiative to reassess the relationship between the two of them. She confesses her feelings to TK first, hence we see the last frame of the video with teary-eyed Taek, most likely surprised that the feelings were actually mutual. And the rest shall follow.

I will miss this thread so much. Don't get shaken too much with the preview since most are out of context. Trust in LWJ-nim, instead.

Hold on, regarding the chocolate theory, I'm kind of confused, hehe.
Deoksun was infatuated with the idea of SW/JH liking her, which also helped boost her self-esteem up at the moment. Her self-esteem was something that had always been really low before since her middle child dilemma and the thought of people liking her first gave her such a rush that even if the chocolates were intended for Taek, meaning her initial feelings to be pushed aside for this exciting discovery, she was swayed by her friends' enticing words and decided to heed to their advices. Being naive with love and all, what she did was she tried to chase love rather than to wait for it to grow and bloom into something beautiful. These unsuccessful endeavors, in return, had her end up asking Dongryong for direction in episode 14 then realising what had went wrong when she started trying her luck out when it comes to romantic relationships. *commence the pitter-patter in her heart whenever she's with Taek in the succeeding episodes*
This is how I understood it. Did I get at least the gist of it correctly? Hahahahaha!

Episode 18: Taek, The Tease
In this episode, everyone had been leading their own busy lives hence only five years later did the Ssangmun-dong gang gather again just like the good, 'ol days, in time for Taek's birthday celebration. If you pay careful attention, you would notice Taek had started to proactively tease Deoksun, whereas unlike before, he wouldn't initiate anything and would probably just laugh along with everyone as the other guys poke fun at her while hanging out together.
Exhibit A (Taek's birthday party):
Look at that grin. You're enjoying this too much, Taek. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Wahahahahahahahahaha!
Exhibit B (Meetup at DR's resto, DS the last one to arrive)
The moment DS arrived, it was Taek who called her out as Sooyeon first and he was even the one who initiated the chanting with Sunwoo. You cute, adorable, baduk person. Heeeeeeeeeh, stop it!
Exhibit C (Talking about the guy DS was dating)
This just speaks future KJH husband to me. So much, I could fight with anyone who says otherwise for this, istg. LOL
Taek had gotten snarkier over the past five years and I'm anticipating for more of these in the last two episodes. It's nice that he's starting to talk a lot more, in line with his father's wishes in episode 17 so here's to more!

But let me just say
Oh god. I'm so nervous (and high-key excited!) just by thinking about what could have happened after the concert. Taek was too giddy and cheery and adorable the next morning and eating a lot for breakfast than usual so most probably, one of them had probably stepped up to the plate to confess their feelings, thinking it's the perfect time to finally do so, only for the both of them to realise the feelings were actually mutual. SQUEAKY FANGIRL SCREAMING! Like imagine:

Points I'd like to take note of:
- 'Goodbye, First Love', the title of today's episode and what do we get? A Junghwan-centric episode. He tried confessing to Deoksun in front of Sunwoo and Dongryong, saying he loves her and at the same time had moved on, but later called it out as a joke, probably to save face.
- Future DS mentioned that her husband hated doing interviews. Meaning, it was something that had been happening frequently before and we all know Taek's not really fond of getting interviewed even way back.
- Dongryong pointed out that it was Taek who went on a lot of blind dates than them. Again, Future DS mentioned that before she and her husband got together, her husband dated a lot of girls. On the other hand, during Junghwan and Dongryong's conversation, it was said that Junghwan doesn't have a girlfriend and had never confessed at all so you get the point.
- 18 episodes in and the scriptwriter had only established Taek as the smoker between him and Junghwan which establishes consistency on Taek's character, that's why if Junghwan suddenly smokes within the last two episodes, I wouldn't know what to say anymore. LOL
- Like what @chocolatepizza had noticed, suddenly, during the 2016 scenes, the husband did start acting like Taek! It had me giggling because 2016 DS and husband are so sweet and adorable and ahsfkjafhalfakjlkfafklajfalf.
Anyway, I laughed so hard at Taek trying to parallel park like ????????? LOLBut yeah, one week left until this drama ends. I'm gonna miss this so much ;M; Huhhh

Also, about the future husband smoking, the eungpal team had consistently been establishing Taek as a smoker and it would be weird if Junghwan starts smoking by the last few episodes just for the sake of it so my hopes are pretty high right now.

I have been lurking on this thread for quite some time now and only today did I decide to finally join in the discourse and share some insights about this lovely, albeit fictional pairing. Heeh.
Been two years since I was all for Chilbong during the previous Reply installment and I admit, I am still deeply scarred. I promised myself I'd never watch R88 because I really have this second lead syndrome and was afraid I might end up getting dejected again by the time this series end. All was well..well, until one of my best friends coaxed, okay, convinced, me to. Grrr.
To be honest, I had already set my mind that Junghwan is gonna be the husband as I watched the first four episodes of R88 using my bff's laptop. No more false hopes, no more heartbreaks- it gotta be Junghwan, okay!? But then again, the moment I saw Taek right outside his house by the gates, drinking from the milk carton then Deoksun approaching him, patting his butt as if it's total normalcy and no malice at all- yet the look in his eyes when his gaze followed DS and DR as they were hurriedly heading off to school- that just rang the freaking ding dong! There wasnt even anything much during that scene but then there's this certain tingling in my spine, I couldn't explain! So in the next episodes, I was discreetly looking forward for more TK-DS scenes despite having to constantly remind myself 'JH is obviously the husband, stop hurting yourself!' - until that scene wherein the gang was in TK's house, hugging him one by one before they enter the room in which when it was DS's turn, he just literally threw himself into her!
Me: *in panic mode*
Me: "SOMETHING IS UP!!! SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY UP!!!!!!"
Me: *tries to calm down as i set park bogeum as my phone's wallpaper*
Me: "im ok"
Aaand when the first snow happened? Damn. I am sold. I have decided. Crossed the borders and hopping aboard the Taektanic. I am a cat. I had nine lives. I still have eight. Eight lives. Yes.
HAHA, Kidding aside, I really enjoyed every writeup I have read from this thread. I wasnt able to backtrack everything but enough to keep me sated for my DS-TK thirst. I usually just read dramabeans recaps since I'm busy with work (called in sick at work yesterday until today so I had spare time and now, ending up in here lol) but sometimes, the posts comes off biased for me so I just watch the cuts available on Youtube then read stuff from soompi so thank you for everything! Keep it going, guys!
(Pretty sure it had been speculated before but idk since i havent backtracked as much; my hunch is that the 2015 scenes is an interview for TK, presumably being the baduk prodigy that he was and still is, like they just wanna do a feature of him to catch up with what had happened with him post-baduk career and stuff, hence 2015!DS getting interviewed as well lol ok bye)

Been silently reading all your analyses again and everything's really interesting, especially on how the production team had laid out easter eggs throughout the entire drama. Great job, all!
By the way, since you guys have been discussing the T.C = Tom Cruise = C.T = Choi Taek theory, there's something I'd like to ask. Tom Cruise was famous before heavily because of Top Gun, correct? And if I remember accurately, while the Ssangmun-dong gang were hanging out in Taek's room together, Deoksun did mention that she hasn't watched that movie yet (including Sunwoo and Taek, excluding Junghwan and Dongryong) hence suggesting they watch it all together so it's quite shady on how T.C would be Tom Cruise? Correct me with this but heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh im getting giddy again even when Taek's the end game already, what is wrong with me?!
