    Lee Jong Suk, His award speech and his phobia of public speaking.

    I feel compelled to write something because I am a fan and he gets unnecessary hate for his unfortunate phobia of public speaking.

    He has now won several awards in the last few years and one thing consistent is that he can not, for the life of him, think coherently when he is the focus of attention on the stage.  He wants to run away as quickly as possible.  And each time, he gets criticized for it.

    He does not have an attitude people.  He gets major anxiety when on stage.  He has the same problem on live interviews.  He has admitted this several times in the past.  But those who do not follow him as fans, quite possibly do not know this about him and interpret this as an attitude issue.

    Please give him a break!  Let him enjoy the moment.

    Us fans are very proud of him.  Network Daesang awards have always been about actor’s popularity and ratings.  Both require base talent.  He has that in plenty.  He is a wonderful actor who lives and breathes his characters, always making us fall in love with those characters.  How can we forget the vulnerable Nam Soon, the puppy Soo Ha, the charming Park Hoon, lovable Dal Po and sexy Kang Chul?  He deserves that Daesung just like how others deserved it in the past years.    In other networks, it may not be based on voters voting but still is always given to drama that is highest rated and star who made the drama the talk of the town.  Facts indicate, W was highest rated show for MBC and LJS’s Kang Chul was very compelling.  

    So, ‘he won by popular votes alone’ is an ignorant statement.  He probably would have won it anyway even if it was not through viewer voting.

    I hope he continues to get more acknowledgement for his talent from industry, his seniors and peers.  Again, I am very proud of him and thankful for all the fans that voted for him.

    Happy Birthday Lee Jong Suk 

    I do not come post here often enough despite my love for this forum and my love for LJS.  But I wanted to make sure I posted my message today because of my boy's birthday.  (Those who know me in Tumblr, ignore...)

    ....

    Wanted to wish my one and only bias Lee Jong Suk.  I have tried to get away from him many times because he is distracting to my work life, and my leisure time.  But no, he simply does not go away.

    My love for Han Tae Sun is legendary, though I did not know who played him.  I just loved that character a lot.

    My Nam Soon ruined me.  I still go back periodically and watch him brood and save his fellow classmates while being cool and still tear up about his guilt and his love for this friend.

    I only wanted Park So Ha to always smile and get his noona crush.  His unconditional, puppy crush and then their growth was …Ah.  Just healing.
     

    Park Hoon was such a cad.  But so lovable and so vulnerable and just freaking cute.  His comic timing was just perfect and all those facial expressions….I loved Park Hoon with passion.  Now, only if the writer loved him as much as I did.  :-(

    Dalpo and In Ha’s chemistry…His romance….His tragedy with his brother, His emoting in heavy scenes.

    And now, sexy & charming Kang Chul.  

    I have loved every single character he has played.  Each of their character traits ingrained in me.  

    His smile brightens up my mornings and when I am stressed at work,  a quick Tumblr visit makes me smile.

    And online friends that I have met make being his fan a just a joyful part of my life.  They are fantastic, they love him as much as I do and they are all bright, and fun people.

    I visited Korea because of him, I use Korean products because of him and I know some real fun people because of him.

    Above all this, he is my inspiration for me to start writing again.  

    Happy birthday Lee Jong Suk.  I am so happy that I am your fan and I am very proud.

    Fans in this forum should rejoice at the quality of this drama.  Sometimes I wonder if you completely forget that we are watching a drama and it is not about leads getting together.  

    I mean I watched episode 13 raw and the quality of this episode is the highest of all the episodes.  To me, this episode was the very best.

    So, I hope you all enjoy the drama for that quality as well apart from understable sadness that YJ is in danger.  

    But guys - Also stop sometimes just mourning and appreciate the drama too...Else you will be missing out.

    I really love it that W has created new fans for him and inspiring many to create fan art etc.  I love it.  So proud of him.  

    I am going to miss him again when he is done with W.  I have had such withdrawal after Pinocchio.  

    Guess we will see some commercials and photo shoot blitz soon.  And then there are fan meetings.  I just have to last through it till he announces one more drama.

    I hope he stays in news and fans will keep posting stuff about him.  Else, I will miss him too much.  I hate days when I do not hear anything about him.

    Being a fan of someone is a real torture I tell you.

    So, considering how die hard a fan I am for our Sukkie, I am not doing a lot of justice to this particular soompi forum am I?

    And I want his pages to soar.

    So, I must contribute something sometime.

    So, here are my thoughts on him portraying Kang Chul.

    ...

    First, I was so happy to know that he deliberately made few choices on how he wanted to deliver his lines as Kang Chul.  I can happily say it works so much.

    He comes across as this dude who is in complete control of his people without being rude.  He talks like a very confident person who is self assured that his orders will be followed.  It is kind of sexy when he dismisses his body guards or staff.

    Second - I always know he can do angst.  But I have seen his angst.  The School 2013 angst is the best angst.  Dr. Stranger had major angst.  So, in a way, I am used to him doing a great job with it,,,But, his naughty, flirty side is very Kang Chul.  I do think LJS has a very charming screen personality that kind of shines when camera is on him.  A natural charisma he is able to channel into his characters that make each of his characters stand out distinctly from one another.  With their own personalities...

    Like I would never mistake Park Hoon to Dal Po to Soo Ha to Kang Chul.  Each of them very distinct.  That is a big talent right there.  To make memorable characters.

    ...

    And yes, he has learnt to kiss.

    And yes, he has learnt how to make our hearts flutter.

    And yes, he has learnt how to make everyone rooting for his character's happiness.

    ....

    I just hope to see many many great characters in the future for him.  I wonder if I will ever love any other celebrity as much as I love him.  Only the best.

    So the watch he wore for the presscon actually costs 77000 pounds......I am sure it was sponsored but that is freaking crazy!  Is this what rich people spend their money on?  

    I was shocked when I looked at that price, so I thought it was mistaken so I google it.  It costs ridiculous amount of money!!

    LJS for W (July ‘16) - Part 2

    W: You observe things really closely. Are you originally a person who is curious?

    I am easily curious and also quite sensitive. I also easily feel inferior to others. When I look at some of the actors around my age, I find that there are a lot of them who act very well… Sometimes I feel that even if we have lived the same number of years, they seem to have experienced a larger range of events. I grew up with relatively few ups and downs. The most I can say happened to me are stuff like ‘can’t work out a problem’ or ‘chances not coming to me’. For an actor who has to use his emotions a lot, sometimes failures in life would be a good source material to work with; at those times, I find myself lacking. For example, if a scene requires me to tear up, I don’t have many memories to capture that memory from. I can insinuate from dramas and movies, but this method has its limitations.

    W: Has this kind of sensitivity ever become an obstacle for you?

    A lot. I admit that I have a ‘glass’ mentality, it’s rather weak. Sometimes when a piece of news comes out or even when there is a small incident, it would end up affecting my work. Even my manager had said that if there are news that would shock me, they won’t tell me before I film the bust shot (T/N: filming the upper body area, mostly for facial reactions), since it would be written all over my face. I like that beer ad tagline, “If you don’t do anything, nothing will happen.” I actually like the kind of life where nothing happens.

    W: If you really wanted a quiet life, shouldn’t you have chosen the job of a lighthouse keeper or something like that? How do you cope with a job where the public’s love and attention plays a big part?

    Of course, I receive good reactions a lot as well; I just tend to get scared first.

    W: For you to have such an introverted personality but also the strong determination to act well, it seems quite amazing to me.

    Because I love my job. I want the dramas I participate in to be successful and lots of people watch it. This is my job and one that I want to do well for. However, the character in the drama is one that the drama imagined up, even though he has my face, he is a completely different person from me.  That’s why a drama is always a fantasy world for me. Even in a romantic drama, I would have my hair and makeup done, so it looks much more perfect than real life. When I try my best to become this perfected person, my world expands as well. 

    But sometimes, it is still difficult and my face would become red all over. Although the process of filming a drama is tiring, the reason why I can get over it is because of the immense pleasure I get from watching the finished product on broadcast.

    W: I remember reading an interview where you say you are compromising with a perfect flower boy or flower man image since it’s what people want, but you actually want to be a macho actor.

    I aspire towards the kind of image that I lack. Among actors, I like those like Lee Min Ho or Kim Woo Bin, who have a strong, well-defined line to their features. Objectively, I have some doubts as to whether I can assume that kind of image. That’s why I wanted to do crime dramas or those with a lot of testosterone. Last year, there were a few projects I was considering, but ultimately I gave up due to fear and uncertainty. While I am still in my 20s, I want to go with my own strengths first. ‘W’ is just in the middle – so even though I can’t become fully macho, I want to use this drama to see how far I can go.

    W: In ‘W’, you appear as a shooting athlete. Do you think this sport that requires 100% extreme attention is suitable for you?

    I was the kind of student who hated physical education lessons. I would give the role monitor 1000 won or a bun, so that he would allow me to stay in the classroom. Lately, I’ve been doing weight training, and if it is for a drama, I would learn swimming or table tennis. For a person who doesn’t do anything, I get to learn all sorts of things! Once, I was watching ‘Black Swan’ with my actor friends and a sunbae-noona said, “We really do our art too easily!” Natalie Portman was really so amazing in that movie – how much she must have worked to play a ballet dancer, you can tell just from the back muscles and the way she dances.

    W: What is the most fun you have had lately?

    One day, because there was too many lines to memorize so I was reading the script until 1 or 2am, when suddenly I wanted to eat fried peppers. I called my manager to eat it together, but felt sorry that I was dragging him out in the middle of the night, so we started playing a soccer game with bets. I don’t really know how to play games so I thought if I lost, I could give him some pocket money also. In the end, I tried my best at the game and still lost around 300,000 won to him, and I started getting angry instead. But that’s the only kind of small episodes in my life. If I drank alcohol, I guess I would meet loads of people and get to know many nice restaurants… but I don’t even drink.

    W: Don’t you talk about personal things on SNS?

    I just have my manager take some proof shots and then upload it with some emoticons… When people are enamoured with an emotion, they tend to want to express it, but I feel that it is quite dangerous so I try to minimize my expression. If I let people know that I am exhausted, I worry that it will cause misunderstandings. Even when I am texting someone, if you’re feeling hurt, somehow the text message will take on that nuance too. Then if that person interprets the message just by the words, the issue may get even more twisted. So when my friends are using Instagram, I would satisfy myself with watching the timeline from the side and feel like everyone is having a good and happy life.

    W: You say that you are introverted, but it feels that you always share your worries and weaknesses straight-forwardly in interviews.

    I don’t have many chances to talk to a person non-stop in real life. Even when I meet up with high school friends every six months, we just keep talking about the same things that happened in the past. When you work with people day-in day-out, your conversation dwindles to just daily conversation. After entering society, you form relationship networks and you try to be careful with what you say, so I say as little as possible. During these interviews, since you keep asking questions, it feels food to rediscover myself through answering them. 

    W: Lately, have there been any ideas that form a ‘sting’ in your heart?

    If I do have any limitations, I want to get rid of them as soon as possible. Even if the results are not immediately visible, I can still present a new side of myself in the meantime, no?

    Waaa....How do they manage this schedule....All night shooting...How do they look so good while doing it?  The production values are so high so far.  I hope the talented production people get the time to keep it up and everyone can stay true...

    I am amazed by this live shooting concept and how everyone involved can keep it going...

    All I can do is wish LJS good luck.  Considering he has done this quite a few times now, he knows what it is.  

    I hope he stays healthy.  *sends loads of blessings & love his way*

    W-TWO WORLDS - national - 9th: 10.1%

    Uncontrollably Fond - national - 10th: 10.0%

    W-TWO WORLDS -  Seoul - 5th: 11.5%

    Uncontrollably Fond - Seoul - 9th - 10.9%

     

    Accordingly to TNMS, W crossed UF.  But According to AGB, W still trails UF.  And increased its rating.  So, it is all good news.  

    AGB - from 8.6 to 9.5 is a reasonably good jump when there is strong competition.

    I can not imagine the numbers going down actually.

    But if you know this, what will drama do for upcoming episodes?  Ha ha ha.  That is the big mystery in the Web toon. That is most likely be the reason for this drama.  Who killed his parents?  why?  How come this webtoon is able to pull real people inside?  Is that saturn picture with those lines is 'open sesame?'  Can Kang Chul come to real world?  

    So many fun questions and therefore we have 20 episodes.  And we get to enjoy the romance within this mystery.

    You may want to go to the W drama thread to get drama specific news.  Have you tried that?
