Have to say I loved the car scene in episode 21 where Da Shen's mom (on speaker phone) was telling him not to "bully" good girl Wei Wei and he replied with "depends on the situation..."
I squealed!!!
His mom went even further by telling him that if he were to "bully" her, that he had to take responsibility...so cute and suggestive...

One of Da Shen's best attributes is his unwavering faith in Wei Wei: He'd never allow a misunderstanding to foster in the first place and will incinerate it right from its roots. Every one of his actions in this series just reinforces why he's one of the top ranked heroes in Chinese romance novels -a place well earned!

I feel the same way about ZS. I can understand the first kiss they shared was awkward as WW was surprised and shocked that XN kissed her. However, they've shared more than a few kisses, and she's still awkward. I did read the novel, and many here are also saying that in the novel, WW is very awkward and not aggressive in the kisses. But I had hoped that she wasn't such a wooden stiff in kissing YY. You can physically see that it's all YY that's doing the work in the kissing scene. In the BTS for their characters' first kiss, he expresses that it's also his first time kissing a girl onscreen. I was surprised as he's good at it. Come to think of it, I can't recall his other dramas having kissing scenes. This could very well be his first kissing scenes in dramas. Both YY / XN's first time kissing was H-O-T!! His friends once told WW that she is XN's first girlfriend/relationship, yet it doesn't seem that way. He seems too smooth and such a natural in the dating/kissing scenarios.
I guess our Da Shen is just a genius at everything...kissing artfully seems to be no challenge for him at all. I guess the recipient being Wei Wei propelled him to master the art upon their first lip lock, lol

I need to wait for a few more episodes to come out -can't stand waiting when I'm used to binge watching. If only my sister didn't start watching before most of the episodes came out...
I'm usually good about waiting for the majority of the drama to air before investing myself...

Anyways, having watched "One Smile is Very Alluring," the only person in the world who could play my ZiChu (hero in "Mystic Love") is Yang Yang. Before him, I couldn't think of anyone, past or present generation who could bring this godlike book character to life. But now I'm thoroughly convinced after seeing Yang Yang's take on Xiao Nai: He's the right age, has the looks, acting skills, and poise to play this character. I so wish they can produce a drama adaptation of this book right now, because after the successes of "Silent Separation" and "One Smile is Very Alluring," another tale of college-working life romance with the right actors/production team will pretty much guarantee it as a mega-hit, esp since the source material is gold and more epic. Here's hoping...

Since this drama is based on a Chinese romance novel, I have to briefly go on a tangent and rave about my obsession for those Chinese internet novels. Forgive me, but it's just so hard finding English speaking folks to dicuss these with.
I started reading Chinese online novels in 2009, which was difficult back then because although I was fluent in listening/speaking, I grew up in the U.S. and my knowledge of the written language (excluding occasional characters I recognized from Chinese dramas) was limited to two semesters worth of college classes. But all it took was one novel, "Summer of Bubbles" by Ming Xiao Xi (泡沫之夏 -明小溪）, to propel me into the gargantuan world of Chinese romantic novels.
My sister had started reading the manga adaptation and was impatient for more translations, so she did some research and discovered that it was all based on the original novel. Being that she knew more Chinese characters than I did at the time, she bravely threw herself into the novel and became obsessed. Naturally, she started gushing about it to me, so I became determined to read it. After starting a vocab list and painstakingly reading through the initial chapters (agonizingly looking up every other character for their pinyin), I developed a flow and was soon heavily absorbed into the lives of the three leads: Xia mo, Ou Chen, and Luo Xi. The prose was beautiful and the love story so angsty/romantic (the kind that squeezes your heart) that I embarked on a one year journey of only seeking out Chinese romance novels.
So now, fast forward 7 years later, I'm still reading Chinese novels on/off and for those who can understand Chinese, I have to recommend you guys my absolute favorite contemporary novel of all time. This love story shook me to the core and I will remember it till the day I die.
I highly highly recommend you read 《独宠旧爱：陆少的秘密恋人》 by 云檀, which literally translates into "Sole favoring of past love: Master Lu's mysterious lover" or "Mystic Love" (made up this title after much thought -sounds much better) by Yun2 Tan2. The Chinese title is kind of lame and in no way does the book justice, so please don't be put off (been passed off by many due to the title). There's a reason this book snagged the #1 book of 2014 award on a popular Chinese internet novel site (hong xiu). It's an absolute masterpiece: The writing is impeccable and highly praised by every reader. One of my favorite books of all time!!! Not only is it an epic romance, it also effectively incorporates two time periods: College life and the working life seven years later. I loved both time periods and was thoroughly absorbed into the lives of our three main leads. The author writes in a way that made me feel like I was there, growing with our heroine.
The two leads meet and fall madly in love in college -the hero is fours years older than her, ran a law firm, and acted as a substitute lecturer (not really her teacher) at her school. The girl is very intelligent and was on her way of becoming a successful lawyer at the hero's firm. The two were also planning to get married. But before that could happen, she flew home to visit her family, ended up breaking up with him through a voice recording, and disappeared for seven years, leaving him heartbroken. Nonetheless, he couldn't forget her or muster up the enthusiasm to start another relationship and just buried himself in work. Seven years later, she resurfaces as a mentally ill person and the hero nurses her to health, loving her madly, but also insanely jealous of the other man she lived with all these years. The heroine also really loves him and wants only to be with him. I'm tearing up as a type this as I was so touched by their love...
The hero in this book, Lu ZiChu, is literally a god!!! He's hot, capable, and loves the heroine fervidly: Cannot live without her. The heroine is also one of my favorite characters as she's extremely capable on her own without the hero and is very levelheaded, possessing a distant aura.
P.S. The hero is a virgin, having only been with the heroine (also gave her virginity to the hero). But she, not being in the right state of mind, may have gotten intimate with the secondary male. That portion in the book was written a bit obscurely, lending much debate amongst readers. Many believe that they did the deed since the secondary male was so in love with her and they were married for many years. The heroine was mentally incapacitated for pretty much the entire length of their marriage, so she couldn't recall any of her actions during that time period -later got better after reuniting with the hero. But they also may not have gone all the way as the secondary guy was very prideful and mentioned that whenever they got hot and heavy, she would call out the hero's name, causing him to cease all actions. The author herself also denied that anything happened, so I'm willing to believe that.
I'm revealing this tidbit because I know that some readers only want a virgin heroine who's only been with the hero and didn't want anyone to be put off. This book is extraordinary -too good not to read. Every single person who's read this book has fallen in love with the lead's love story: It's as vast as the ocean.

on topic of the drama - this is my first c-drama (been a major kdrama and the occasional t-drama for a while though)
and I just love how fluffy it is! seriously, the parents APPROVE first of all - although I haven't seen WW's parents yet but based on clips it seems as if they're alright with everything. seriously, MIND BLOWN
and I love the bromance/girlmance here and that we get so much cuteness in every ep. WW is relatable in that she's awkward, but at the same time she's so pretty and smart with major skills so it's like girlllll. I really like how XN has really let himself go when it comes to his feelings towards her. like he's still so calm, but he can't help but smile every time she does something and it's those parts that have been replaying. I really miss them gaming though - YY is already hot, but his game character outfit just does wonders for me - plus his lines were always so charismatic in the game ahahah - but he's beginning to show more of that in his real life drama persona so I'm okay for now
the only thing I wish is that we got to see more of the side characters. like I'm DYING for Zhen Shun (?) and Enchantress to find out how good looking XN and WW actually are so they can shut up on that - as well as the dude who liked WW but got rejected (though I assume he might find out soon so he can start a thing with Er Xi), and I'm just dying to let the school beauty know that XN isn't leaving WW for several reasons, and it's not just cause of of looks that he likes her.
on the other hand, I kinda feel bad for the school beauty. yeah she's snobby, but at the same time I feel like she's only been this evil thus far due to the fact of her catty environment. I mean she seemed okay in the first ep or two, but it was her friend that caked on all the WW gossip and that only went downhill for her and her relationship with that friend, and getting involved with Love Scandal is now even worse since she now knows that LS is using her. like really, when it comes down to it - she only has her cousin to rely on and they haven't interacted much in the drama to gain a strong relationship for the viewers at all
I'm really looking forward to the moment of seeing Zhen Shun finally figuring out who Reed Wei Wei and Nai He really are though - it's the one thing I'm waiting for. I wish they explored a bit more on Enchantress' and Zhen Shun's relationship more too - like I get they're cutesy in the game but what about real life?
But at the end, I hope this drama stays as fluffy as it has been for the most part for the rest. I really hate it when dramas get bogged down by political stuff or competition because that means it starts to lose focus on the actual couple and lets their relationship wither to the point where you get rushed endings or a bunch of fluffy stuff crammed in the last episode or two. since this drama has 30 eps I assume it'll be better (I haven't read the book or anything so if there's like an english translation of it, someone please link me), and I figure we'll have some of that competition soon considering the rival gaming company, but I hope it doesn't end up with an arrange marriage or a "let's break up for the sake of protecting you" type of thing .-.

So far the drama follows the novel very closely, and if they continue to do so, you don't have to worry much about second leads messing up our OTP. Xiao Nai Da Shen will never let anyone mess with his love life or WW.
Definitely have faith in our Da Shen: So far he's exactly the same as the book version and given his relentless persistence when it comes to Wei Wei, would never submit to noble idiocy or let any outside forces intervene (his venomous tongue alone would ward them off). Too smart to risk losing the love of his life...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. YANG YANG IS XIAO NAI. Zheng Shuang is growing on me as Wei Wei, and I can't wait to see more of this sappy goosebump-inducing drama.
I made my boyfriend watch the first episode again with me...and now he's hooked! Guys can secretly be sappy too I guess. He said the level of humor in the drama is bearable and not too fake like some other dramas. He especially enjoys YY scenes...I think he might secretly be in love with Yang Yang.
Lol, even though it's romantic, a good drama is a good drama. Your boyfriend has great taste! I feel like this series is so well done that many people would enjoy it -besides the irresistable main romance, there's also bromance, sister-ship, witty dialogue, and plenty of scenes that pay homage to online gaming.

Read the "One Smile is very alluring/Love 020" novel a long time ago in Chinese and it stands as my favorite one by the author. The drama itself is mindblowing!!!! Never in my life have I seen such a good book to TV hero portrayal -it's like the book hero role is made for Yang Yang. Previously, I couldn't picture any actor who could pull off the role of Xiao Nai, the inimitable hero (esp since he's too hot/perfect and so beloved in the Chinese romance novel world -impossible standards for any actor to meet), but Yang Yang absolutely nails it!! Besides being extremely handsome, there's just this aura that the book Xiao Nai possesses that I thought could never be replicated by any mortal actor, but I was proven wrong. Yang Yang basically has me believing that he walked straight out of the story book -he IS Xiao Nai.
The leads' every interaction has my heart beating very fast -as a drama veteran (started out with Autumn in my Heart, All about Eve, Meteor Garden..etc.), it's been a long time since I've been so addicted to one. Boy, If it remains this good, I'm going to need an oxygen tank as well as rehab from the inevitable withdrawals...-

Watched "Bright Girl's Success" a loong time ago and found it a bit too goofy/comedic for my liking -prefer more serious toned dramas. I also didn't like how pathetic the main guy got at one point in the series. Usually I don't like watching dramas that feature the main guy going bankrupt -loses focus on the "romance" aspect and I just don't enjoy watching that kind of drama period.
Is "Country Princess" good? I've never watched it. I'm considering watching "Secret" with HJW playing an evil girl because I heard it's really good with the kind of premise I love.

Thanks everyone for the recs!!! I want to see City Hall but I heard the main guy just sort of disregarded the fact that he had a fiancee when he went after the girl -I mean, the fact that he was already in a relationship wasn't really addressed in the drama when the two leads went together. I kind of prefer the lead guy to break up first before "officially" going with the main girl -more respectful to her. Anyway, was he more into her or was she just as eager -kinda prefer the girl to be less impressed with the guy like in all the dramas I listed above. I also really want to see "Lie to Me," but want to wait for it to finish airing first. Keep them coming please!!!

Oh yeah, another great example is "Be Strong Geum-soon:" Loved how the main guy was nasty and arrogant to the main girl, but later fell so hard for her and she was totally oblivious for the longest time. I really liked how the main girl concentrated all her energy towards her job/son instead of on snagging a guy so the cocky dude really had to work hard to win her affections. Their chemistry was hot and it was so entertaining watching their interactions -LOVED this couple! I only wished there were more scenes btw the 2 leads as this was a daily drama and the pacing tended to be slower (plus too many side character scenes), but it also gave their relationship more time to unravel. Anymore Kdramas like this?!!

More dramas where the main lead is an A**, but gets his from the girlMy favorite kind of dramas are the ones that feature a cold/mean/jerky main guy who ends up really loving the main girl and not knowing how to handle/channel his feelings. Love watching these jerky heroes who never really cared about anyone come apart/lose control because of the heroine and are now at a loss -sort of getting their comeuppance. It's also best when the girl doesn't really care a wuff about him (he falls first) and we see him continuously screw up -albeit he's still mean, but just with new alien feelings. This premise makes for great tension/emotional outbursts btw leads! Here are some examples:
All about Eve
Secret Garden (this drama got me into this craze again -loved HB's obsession for HJW and watching him flounder because of his personality)
What Happened in Bali (JIS's not really cold, but he never really loved anyone before and was pretty mean/jerky to HJW in the beginning, so his crazy/explosive love for her later really tugged at my heartstrings)
Brilliant Legacy
Honorable mentions (kind of fits but not as much as the ones above): My Girl (sort of fits except the heroine sort of liked the hero early on so he didn't have trouble in that department)
You're Beautiful (Loved the hero, but wished the heroine didn't worship him so much and I hated how jerky he got towards the end)
Anymore Kdramas with this kind of premise? Esp. with main leads who went from a meanie to loving the girl desperately like the top 4 I listed. Thanks and looking forward to reading replies!

Oooh, I also remember "Emperor of the Sea" where the 2nd male was so much more attractive and loved the main girl to pieces even when she never threw him a bone -he was sort of the villain, but that just makes everything all the more interesting. Any other recommendations -please, please, please?

My favorite kind of Kdramas are the more melodramatic and serious ones with loads of angst and emotions (as well as an obsessive male lead) because if done right, they can really tug on my heartstrings. I watch Kdramas mainly for the romance and chemistry/tension between the leads and my favorite ones always feature a likable female lead (one who either isn't interested in the male lead or at least doesn't allow him to walk all over her) and an alpha male lead who's very devoted to the girl (steadfast in his love). After being on a Kdrama hiatus for more than a year, I was lured back by the outstanding 2009 hit, "Shining Inheritance" -loved the love story btw the leads and how the main male fell so hard for the girl. I was also very impressed with the heroine's loyalty to her family: My favorite kind of heroine is always one who's goal in life is something other than snagging a guy and the girl in SH became one of my most favorite heroines (loved her attitude). With that said, are there any other Kdrama recommendations that fit my preferences? Here are some of my most favorite ones with amazing chemistry and devoted main male (or more often than not, male(s)):
Autumn tale (Both guys really loved the girl)
Winter Sonata (Fell in love with BYJ's character; loved how persistent he was in pursuing CJW)
Damo (Main male was willing to sacrifice everything for HJW -this series can really depress you)
All About Eve (ultimate prince charming; can't ask for more from JDG and his unconditional love for CR)
Stairway to Heaven (Can't get more obsessed than KSW in here -he was smokn' and utterly fixated on CJW)
Punch aka Ddae Ryuh (Joo Jin Mo did everything for Shin min Ah and those 2 were my craze back in 2003 -so much chemistry)
What Happened in Bali (JIS is as obsessed with his girl in here as KSW was with his in STH -so much tension)
Shining Inheritance (absolutely fell in love with the 2 leads: loved their bickering and tension)
Dae Jang Geum (loved everything about the drama and the male lead who always supported JG)
Be Strong, Geum-soon (Although the romance btw the 2 leads was so slow because of the drama length, their love story was full of chemistry and the male lead was so persistent and vulnerable)
Tamra Island (man did I love the eloquent and clever, boyish yet manly male lead with his hidden agenda and everlasting love for our cute heroine even though she pretty much spurned him until the end)
Love Story in Harvard (Again, both male leads were gaga over KTH -tho I never found KRW really attractive, he had loads of chemistry with KTH and would do anything for her)
Nine-tailed Fox (LOVED the 2nd male lead in here; KTH was everything to him -although the main guy was also very endearing towards KTH, I didn't really like him)
All the above dramas (which happen to be among the best all-time dramas as well) feature heroines who either didn't like the main guy at first or are more focused on other goals and male leads who fall really HARD for them (loved them first/does the pursuing or are really steadfast/persistent in their love). I would love for more dramas similar to these gems; any recommendations -I really want to become emotionally involved? Thanks!!!

This is what I love about Korean dramas: Its pure portrayal of true love through actual affection and some of the most amazing chemistry btw. leads. If I have to pick the top 5, these are my cream of the crops (not in any order):
All about Eve (Chae Rim and Jang Dong Gun -wow, just W-O-W)
Autumn Tale (SHK with both SSH and WB -sorry, this is the one drama in which I LOVED both guys equally)
Winter Sonata (CJW and BYJ -I watched the beginning of episode 8 repeatedly because of their intense scene)
Stairway to Heaven (CJW and KSW -as crazy as the drama is, these 2 are simply magnetic)
What Happened in Bali (HJW and JIS -I felt so much pain for JIS; his obsessive love ripped at my heart)
Although these are my absolute untouchable top 5, I do have some others that are just as good, but in which I just couldn't replace with the above list (since this thread only allows "five"). They are as follows:
Punch or Ddae Ryuh (this drama was overshadowed by STH in 2003, but the chemistry btw Joo Jin Mo and Shin Min Ah was utterly gripping -had my heart stopping several times; they MAKE this drama: Watch the dance scene in episode 2 and you'll get what I mean!)
Shining Inheritance (After being on a Kdrama hiatus for more than a year, this drama dropped like a bombshell and lured me back in the Korean wave -I utterly fell in love with the 2 lead's amazing chemistry!)
Tamra Island (Another newer drama that had me enthralled by its 2 leads mesmerizing connection; made me feel such heartache over their relationship)
All of these dramas I listed are among my most favorite dramas of all time and have the kind of chemistry btw its leads that made me feel extreme pain in my chest at one point (I have to really "feel" that punch in my chest for any couple to really pass my "chemistry" test and "chemistry" btw leads is everything when it comes to romance dramas or movies to me). I would love to watch newer dramas with this kind of intense chemistry featuring (if you haven't noticed already in all my drama choices) strong female leads (at least ones who aren't immediately gaga over their male counterparts or overly clingy -I HATE whiny pathetic heroines) and male leads who are utterly devoted to them (all the dramas above have my favorite kind of male characters -most have them falling HARD first and all are pretty much steadfast in their affections: No wishy-washy guys). Any recommendations of newer dramas with this criteria (please no male leads with previous first loves or whatnot since I just prefer males who didn't have previous attachments in romance)?

KO's a handsome devil all right...to me the 2nd hottest guy in this series after Da Shen. Both possess that inimitable aura...also find it hilarious how XN's always striving to be the best in his WW's eyes. I loled at the part where he's comparing the look of admiration in WW's eyes when she's looking at KO in the black suit from when she met him for the first time. Don't fret it Da Shen, you know you'll always be the most handsome in your woman's eyes!
