  1. I don't think it's that KBS only wants Korean viewers to watch it, although judging by their actions, it certainly seems like it. What KBS is afraid of are ILLEGAL sales of their dramas, which generally happens quite a bit in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. There are quite a few unethical people who come into a forum like this, download the HQ version of the episodes - and more importantly, steal either English or Chinese subtitles and then copy them, repackage them and then sell it to the public for $25 - $30 per series set. This is called piracy, and it is one of the reasons why KBS, like MBC and SBS are trying to crack down on illegal downloading. I know, because I've seen my own English translations of one of the dramas I was subbing and it was sold in one of the stores in Chinatown in Oakland, California. I was quite shocked to see my own work, provided free for the drama's fans and it was being sold for profit. It was heartbreaking.

So, I don't have a problem with KBS cracking down on piracies. I think KBS, like all the other broadcasting companies should reserve the right to control how their content is being distributed. HOWEVER, it's clear that KBS is befuddled as to HOW to handle the massive and ever growing demand for instantaneous viewing of their dramas worldwide and YET still have control over copyrights and profits attributed to the dramas they produce. This should not be big news to anyone. It's the same reason why the music industry in the U.S. are going after illegal downloaders.

Having stated that, KBS needs to understand the great popularity of not only this drama but many others that KBS produces AND try to find out HOW to best meet those demands. Perhaps a monthly subscription fee to watch any KBS drama/show INCLUDING English and/or Chinese and Japanese subtitles would help prevent piracies. I know that when I purchase a DVD set (from Korea), they typically sell the mini-series (16-24 episodes) from anywhere between $65 - $140 per boxed set and the longer series will go from anywhere from $160 - $230 per boxed set. So KBS can lose serious money to piracy. They just need to figure out a way to reign their profits in while increasing the popularity of their dramas.

Wow that part about you seeing your own subbed episodes being sold is really =(. How can people do that geez. But it's still good for our subbers to have their names or tags on the videos so viewer credit you for your efforts.

With the whole piracy and copyright issues, I'll admit - if the companies were to put a fee on music or dramas, I don't think I'll be able to pay (even if it's a small one year fee or whatever). With so many "free" stuff online, we all sometimes take for granted these privileges. Like downloading drama episodes or music. I really wonder how artists and their companies make money....
