  1. nice discussion going around here! i watched the last episode, though it was lagging here at my end, and frankly, i am with the others who think that it's the make your own ending type. the writer was clever in not stating clearly what happened to the two leads, we are left thinking whether oh soo dies or not. if it were so clear, we wouldn't be discussing that at all!
so did anyone see the Korean movie version of this, Love Me Not? It kinda ended the same way, the male lead got stabbed while Moon Geun Young was on the operating table. Next scene, she was fixing herself in front of the mirror then she came out in the snow to meet the male lead under the tree. Made me think whether they were alive or not.

  2. i watched today's episode through livestreaming and while i did not have an idea what they were saying, the episode seemed fun. i was not able to watch the beginning. what i saw was Pres. Cha and Gukmin seemingly challenging Young Saeng. Why, do Nara and kaki  have a relationship already and have the rest found out about it? can someone explain the episode please?  i'm wishing time would hurry and i can watch these episodes already at kbsw!

  3. i've been watching this at kbsworld and truly, i'm enjoying this, much more than the other dramas i'm watching right now. i'm happy that the episodes are replayed every sunday so i get to catch them since i work during weekdays... and thanks for posting the dl links for the subbed episodes!

i managed to catch the ending earlier at ionair.tv and was surprised!!!

    seju kissed chaewah!

can't wait to watch the upcoming episodes at kbsworld!

  4. i like this drama a lot, despite not having watched the beginning episodes. too bad i will miss the remaining episodes because of work. i only get to watch it at kbsworld... i hope that more people will come here and give recaps and their insights.

woah, i do not remember what episodes are now being shown at kbsworld but just like the others, i really hate the MJ and MG couple! i can't wait to see what's gonna happen to this selfish couple!....

so is MS having second thoughts about marrying EJ? ... as for BH, i can't wait to find out if she's gonna be successful in making wine and who she'll be with! i'm kinda thinking that she 'll be with JM!

  5. Ahhh so what's happen today ? he knows it's SG or not ? ahhhhh i can't wait for spoilers!!!! :sweatingbullets:

The episode ended on a cliffhanger. I really have non-existent Korean skills (LOL!) but from the scenes....

I do not think that he knew it was SG. What was interesting for me was how SG was getting confused between YH and GW! She had a conversation again with Mr. Hwang though I'm not sure what it was about. She showed him 2 handyphones that she got, I presume one for her identity as SG and the other as the rich girl! Did I hear it right, did she mention the word "like" when she was talking to Mr. Hwang? And the phone conversation between her and YH then between her and GW! AAh, this is one of the times when I get frustrated I could not understand Korean! Did she talk to them as SG? Did she mistakenly think it was GW who "kissed" her on the phone? I loved YH's facial expression when he did that!

Oh I'll wait for someone to post the real recaps! Please correct me if I'm wrong!!! Hope some kind soul will give insights into the interesting scenes and conversations in tonight's episode!

EDIT; so that was it! thanks kcomments!!!

  6. - to watch Romance Town LIVE - I'm watching it live right now :]Anyways, use Internet Explorer and go here. Afterwards, click on 2TV.That's it. You should be able to see whatever is airing...which is Romance Town right now. I guess its pretty standard to remember to only start watching it live when its airing... XDEDIT:

This is the last 10-20mins of the drama. How cute! San is on Gun Woo's shoulders :] Sigh, I hate it when it buffers :[Young Hee following Soon Geum around is adorable~I see Grandma! She's cleaning toilets...that looks like its from a hotel or a company it's a shopping mall!Gun Woo runs to the boardroom...and smiles...at an empty boardroom...hmmm...lets hope he isn't going crazy :]The maids collect their winnings from the convenience store.Soon Geum is at the convenience store that Grandma is working at. Gun Woo has gotten a call and is running again...he borrows a car from someoneHe's gotten to where the Grandma is workingPresident Yong is in the garden tending to his lettuce when Young Hee comes along.Soon Geum is getting a makeover! Makeup, hair extension, clothes etc. I didn't even recognise her...But the maids are at the mall too! Haha, everyone is at the mall. The maids are at a section with 90% off discount for clothes. Grandma sees the back of Gun Woo's head and hides behind her bag. Gun Woo sees Soon Geum with her new make over. Cue in the open wide mouths! Soon Geum faints and Gun Woo runs to catch her.Cue in the stare! :]Gun Woo leaves and comes back...probably still can't believe what Soon Geum looks like right now?Gun Woo shows the coffee cards with stamps on them - Soon Geum remembers their encounter and how they ended up at the coffee shop. They take an elevator together, while waiting, they sneak in some glances. The elevator dings open and guess who's in there, THE MAIDS! Awkward.....Have no idea what they're saying...Da Kyum looks down at Soon Geun's shoes and socks. Don't think this is really important...The maids leave the elevator first.More talking and staring from out leads.

thanks for the recap. I was also watching at kbs able but it was lagging too much, i was not able to see some parts. Regarding Da Kyum looking at Soon Geum's shoes, did she not return SG shoes after Young Hee carried her home? I was afraid that she would remember the shoes and recognize Soon Geum!

Oh i hope there someone who can provide us with translations for the time being!

  7. Actually, it is explained why she shows up. When I watched it raw, it looked so unexpected, but after reading dramaok's translations on what lead to her showing up, it made sense. YK's adoptive parents were on the verge of divorce 16-17yrs ago. YK put on a brave front, but just from her action of returning home late at nights suggest that the atmosphere at home was heavy and she was running away from the problem. We didn't see any signs of her brother at home either, so either he was away at school or military duties or with his father. Her sense of security was tested when she overhears her adoptive mother's argument w/ her birth mother. From the family photos that YK had 10 years after, it looks like her adoptive parents must have gotten back together, but by that time YK was estranged from them. Adoptive mother is guilt-ridden over the way in which she had callously revealed such an important piece of information back then. And if it hadn't been for Myung Ja to announce at the press conference those many years later, the adoptive mother (she read/saw the news) wouldn't have had the courage to contact YK's birth mother.edit: the drama's official HP has updated the Making Of page w/ 2 more clips: a. scene b/w YK & her adoptive mom, and b. EP 20 JE scene w/ Lee Su Young in "Immortal Love".Also, more stills have been uped from the finale episode, for those who have yet to see the EP, the top 3 posts, HERE

Thank you for this important piece of information. Now it makes better sense.

While we are still waiting for the subs to come out, can anyone please say what Myung Ja said in the press conference? How did she address the issue?

Really, I still have not gotten over this drama yet. It has been quite long since I found myself immersed in a drama like this. I looked forward to Wednesdays and Thursdays and now that it's over, I can say that despite being a melodrama, Thorn Birds has left me feeling satisfied and happy with its ending.

  8. That was completely unexpected...Yoo Kyung's adoptive mom returns! And the microwave strikes again--I missed out on at least 3-5min worth.

It was very unexpected indeed! I hAD completely forgotten about her. Her appearance was a twist that nobody had predicted and the way it was woven in the story was acceptable and satisfying for me.

I am happy that I stuck it out with Thorn Birds! I truly enjoyed watching it!

  9. The thread suddenly became alive with interesting discussions about the drama and our protagonists! Generally, we all want our justice and happiness for whomever we root for, especially Han Byul. We have been disappointed in the past because the episodes did not really turn out the way they were described in the previews. However, I am still excited to see the turn of events.

Thanks to the contributors of these thread such as creidesca, dramaok, Q Park, DarcyCollie and all the others. I did not just enjoy this drama (which was underrated, I think) but I enjoyed everybody's contribution here.

  10. I love how more people are giving their own points of view. We may agree or disagree with each other but we are discussing the merits of the drama and its characters. Thorn Birds may not be the most popular drama on its time slot but I like it. I was drawn to it.

I agree with the viewpoint that it was not just selfishness that pushed JE into getting HB and MJ for her family. She had given HB to the adoption agency but got her back to give her to her grandmother. She brought MJ and HB to their real family. She wanted them to live with their family. She wanted HB to grow up with her her real grandmother, since her her biological mom was not around. JE went to live with them as a daughter and a mom after finding out that her real mother had died. I believe that it was not just because she wanted a family, she wanted to fill that gap that YK had left. She may have lived taking YK's place in their lives but she also shared herself. She became a daughter to MJ and she raised HB as a mother.

As for YK, it's obvious that she longs to be with MJ and HB, even YJ. She may be sorry for what she had done to MJ and HB but she has not shown remorse towards the other people that she had hurt. The way that it looked in the last episodes, she is about to take back what she had thrown away before, without taking into consideration how the other people feel. I guess she may be on the belief that she also deserves to live with them because they are family. That's one of the reasons why she told YJ that HB is their daughter, so that he would also go back to her.

In my opinion, JE's action of erasing the pictures from YK's phone shows spite since she and YK are not exactly the best of friends, but also fear. She is afraid that YK is about to get HB back. She also fears for the effect on HB if she learns that YK and not she, is her biological mother. Yet at the end, nothing stopped her from leading/pushing YK towards that hospital room, a sort of admission that YK is indeed HB's mom.

Well, those are my opinion, sorry if my post was quite long.

Thank you creidesca for that bit of translation. I must have missed that. And thanks eja for the bit of information about the TB channel in Viki. The videos have always been unavailable in my region but I am so thankful for the subtitles that they put up. So thanks for the new batch of subtitles, ahoxan!

  11. I agree with you whole-heartedly. What is there to tell Han Byul in the beginning exactly? JE is listed as HB's mother in her birth certificate; how do you explain to a 6 year old the extent of her biological mother's cruelty and abandonment? For me, unless YK changes in a radical way, she SHOULD NOT be allowed near HB. Don't forget that YK is very manipulative and she is very capable of using HB to take revenge on JE and YJ in the future. I don't want HB to turn out to be another YK! HB is a very sweet kid due to the nurturing love and sacrifices of JE and YK can easily destroy this.

Your post is what I remember when I watched Ep 17 with English subs. When Young Jo's mother was hitting YK, feeling so angry with her for what she did, YK said something like the mother can understand her because she Han Byul's omma. Then YJ's mother stopped and said that no matter how rotten she is, YK is indeed Han Byul's mom. YK's facial expression as she left the building was something that made me think as well. What was going on in her mind? ... YK seems really capable of using Han Byul to get people to understand her, to excuse what she had done in the past. As it is, there seems to be a bond among the three mothers who somehow lost/abandoned their children, Yoo Kyung, Myung Ja, and Young Jo's mom. MJ amd YJ's mom knew what it was like to lose their children, hence they seem to understand Yoo Kyung. And YK knows this!

Now, I wonder about the conversation between JE and Young Jo's mom. She did not like JE in the past. I wonder what she said to her after learning that YK is Han Byul's real mom. She seemed mellow when they were talking.

Waah, with only two episodes left, I still can't guess how the writer is going to end Thorn Birds. I just hope that there will be a happy ending for Jung Eun because no matter how stupid we think she is at times, she does have a good heart.

By the way, thanks ahoxan for bringing us the subtitles! I was worried that you guys might stop posting the subs because the Thorn Birds channel in Viki has been removed. Thank you!!!

  12. I think that for the past two episodes, I kinda resent Myung Ja. Watching the episodes without English subtitles, it seems like she always gives in to Yoo Kyung. A case of blood is thicker than water? She comes across as an understanding mother, pitying her daughter for what she is going through right now, without thinking of how JE feels. I hope I am wrong when the subs come out but I don't think so. A part of me wants JE to just leave Myung Ja with YK!!!

I hope someone can answer this, what is wrong with Han Byul? Why does she need a blood test? I wanted to bang my head on the desk when JE pushed YK towards the hospital room.

EDIT: yes, the ending was unexpected indeed. Even YK seemed startled when JE did that, considering what happened in YK's house after JE found out that Han Byul was there. So, what is more important for JE at this point is Han Byul.

  13. It's funny, upsetting and kind of sad that YK said she wants "Everything I see... I desire them so badly. The baby pictures. the toys. family picture. all of them. Because they are all mine!" (Thanks for the translation dramaok ^_^) because all these things she wants were created by JE!! She is the one that had the courage to go search her MJ and then took her and Han Byul to live with MJ's family. Something that I think MJ NEVER would have done on her own, which she and daughter have in common (they are very cowardly when it come to facing the consequences for their actions). And if JE hadn't decided to keep and raise Han Byul she wouldn't even know where the girl would be right not  P.S. I can't stand how YK acts like a innocent school girl around ppl (MJ and YJ) who don't know her true character! I think this is part of the reason why YJ loves her <_< Side noteThe two episodes for this week would have made me every drunk it I took shots for all the  ness that's happening in this show

I agree with you, balletgoddess. While it's true that MJ and HB were never JE's real family in the first place, she had nurtured them. It was JE who created their family. She was the one who brought the grandmother and granddaughter together. YK never cared an inch for the two of them in the past. She destroyed Myung Ja with the video that she released and she even refused to acknowledge her daughter when she listed JE's name as the mother. So I feel that she does not deserve to have them, despite JE saying that she will care for them until she comes back. Because who knows, if JE had not cared for them, MJ , who has lost the will to live, might have died and HB, would have been adopted and have belonged to another family. I was just wondering, YK seems to be educated and had grown to be succesful, did she continue to live with the mother that she had known or did she grow up with another family. I cannot remember if it was mentioned in any of the earlier episodes.

As for YJ, what can I say about this guy, aah, he is just so lacking. He is not a typical male lead, the take control guy who knows what he wants, who has an answer for everything. Maybe, he'd better resolve his own issues first before taking on the relationship with JE to another level. He is preoccupied by his issues with his brother, the issues with the company, and the unfinished business with YK. In all of these, the relationship with JE always takes a backseat, it being the one that gives him solace. That I do not think is a good basis for a marriage.

well, just my two cents worth...

but before i end this, allow me to express my thanks to creidesca and dramaok! you are really valuable to us who are all going nuts over this drama. thanks to everybody as i enjoy reading your POV's and opinion!

  14. My connection was crappy tonight but from what I understood, many secrets were starting to be revealed in tonight's episode! Ah, i cannot wait to watch the entire episode again!

But please allow me to rant a little...

I hate it when YK treats JE fiercely but looks as meek as a lamb when she is around Myung Ja and Han Byul. Does it seem like she is portrayed as a pitiful character in this episode? I feel no pity for her, none at all! If she is regretting the loss of her mother and daughter, then she only has herself to blame. But tonight, correct me if I'm wrong, she is portrayed to be longing for her mother's and daughter's love. MJ will come out as a heartless woman/mother if she does not reach out to YK, the daughter that she supposedly abandoned before. Hence, MJ is deeply troubled. I wonder about her and JE's exchange in JE's room. I so wanted JE to give YK the slap that she deserves!

And yes, I also sensed that YJ's mother still does not like JE. Her reaction seemed more positive when she asked YJ if the ring was intended for YK.

I hope our dear translators can give us an idea about the conversation between JE and YK in JE's room, as well as that between MJ and YK in the park. It looked like she revealed that Han Byul is her and YJ's daughter.

    Thanks!

  15. I'm really, really trying to understand JE's character and how she behaved after learning that YJ is actually Han Byul's dad. I'm trying to rationalize if the shock of learning about it is so great that she would space out and "see" things! Yet at the end, decide to go back to YJ when she learned about his failing business. I'm thinking that on top of her affection (I do not know if it is real romantic love) for Young Jo, it is because she does not want to abandon people especially if they need her. After all, this is what has driven her since childhood! She was abandoned as a child and she spent most of her life looking for her mother. Myung Ja and Han Byul were abandoned by Yoo Kyung and they ended up as JE's family (and also because she needs a family!). ... aaargh, I know I could be wrong!

With YJ, i do not know what to think of him! I thought that he was prepared for his brother's actions as he said that he was prepared or he has to go into the lion's den to find out! Yet it turned out to be his downfall. I can't say if he is too naive or his brother is just so evil! Maybe both!!! And with Yoo Kyung, I waited for him to say that "It's over, I don't have feelings for you anymore!" Instead he said "It's over, you ended it!" Does he just want to have Han Byul and a family? Were familiarity and promixity the only reasons why he proposed to JE?

But really, I still do not not know how this drama will end with just 5 episodes left!!! Up to now, the writer is keeping of all of us guessing! I'm going to look at his/her other dramas to see his/her writing style! But really, I'm gonna watch this drama 'til the end, I am just so hooked on it!

EDIT: I just finished reading the preview translations. Now, if YJ decides to run back to YK to console her or for any reason that is positive, that's another story. His love for her must be so great that I 'd think that they do deserve each other! fury.gif

  16. I am really interested in the semi-monologue that JE has w/ Ji Hyun, even if Ji Hyun wasn't really paying attention to the conversation. I think this helped JE, since she wasn't able to reveal her feelings and fears to anyone else.

Yes, I was wondering about that, too. If I'm not mistaken, it was the first time that JE met Ji Hyun. And yet, she looked really very serious as she was talking while Ji Hyun was going about her stuff. Did I hear it right, did JE mention something about mother? It kinda seemed to me like JE was not even aware of what she was revealing in her "monologue".

waah, what an episode! and no preview at that!!!

  17. OMG! why??? why does YK have that ability to make JE and YJ come to her bidding??? I seriously wanted to give YJ a beating when he rushed to YK and did not see JE as he passed by her!

Now, we have to wait for tomorrow's episode to know what will happen to our protagonists! I am not sure now if JE will even end up with someone! I just want her to get the happiness she deserves! But now, it looks like all the people that she loves (her mother, daughter, family, YJ, her family), they "belong" to YK and she is about to take them all back! I thought that she was about to snap!

Maybe when the subs are out, we will be enlightened by the different conversations and they will not all look so bad for JE (crosses fingers!)!
