    Im not sure if the significance is the same, but in Chinese there's this saying 钓金龟婿 which loosely translates into hooking a rich son in law (direct translation is fishing for a golden turtle son in law) And maybe its the writers inside joke that Taek is giving the golden turtle to DK thereby affirming that she has inside fished herself a great son in law for her family. 

    I just to say how sweet TK-DS relationship is. How their romantic feelings is strongly rooted from decade long friendship. I haven't watched the childhood scenes in the last episode but have read the recaps from MT. And also snippets from previous episodes shows how their relationship was truly developed slowly but surely over the years since they were kids. DS has always played a nurturing and in many ways, leading part in the relationship. From childhood flashback of piggy backing him when his leg was hurt, to holding his hands first at the beach and leading him away at the meat restaurant, to watching him eat in his room, caring for him in china and driving him home from Baduk center. There were so many little moments of DS caring for TK peppered throughout the show that we almost take them for granted until we realize towards the end of the show, looking back, that their relationship is exactly based on the sum of all these little moments. And what's amazing is that while it seems that DS is placed in the driver's seat in the relationship (literally and metaphorically), it's a dynamic that works for both of them as DS enjoys nurturing TK and TK relishes being cared for by people he loves, Infact him asking favors is the way he keeps the woman he loves close to him, just like his dad. Moreover, the equality and harmony of their relationship is really brought to the fore in the later part of the show as we see TK mirroring what DS has done for him, even if it's not in chronological order but by now we realize that it all makes sense. To cared for DS after he accidentally elbowed her and cause her nosebleed. He princess carried her when she injured her feet. He watched over her when she cried after the flasher encounter and stood nearby when she needed to go to the toilet again. He arrived to save her from the embarrassment of being stood up at the concert and gave her his coat to keep her warm and let her keep her pride by not making a big fuss of what's happened.

    And the reason why this ship sailed was because TK did not leave this relationship to chance, he was always about taking the next step. #badukgenius He was intentional from when he begin to be of age and developed romantic feelings for DS, told DR that he was going to confess after winning the match after the plan to watch the movie with her. However he held back with much sadness because he realized that JH liked DS too. Despite the halt in his course of action of pursuing DS he never intentionally kept his distance from DS (which is what JH did when JH knew TK likes DS) and what was how DS could slowly develop and reciprocate her feelings for TK beyond that of childhood friends. It was TK that kissed DS first in his bedroom while being half awake and groggy. It was TK that invited her to his bedroom when she was locked out of hers. It was TK that initiated the kiss to prove with his actions that he doesn't want to be just friends and he was prepared to risk the awkwardness that might arise between them as friends. There was no confession, but because TK proved with his words (bedroom kiss, showing up at concert, hotel room kiss) so DS could reciprocate likewise and have the assurance to even be the first to confess to him in the car " I love you", to which we get another mirror scene of TK saying the same thing too. It's especially beautiful and fitting that their first "spider man kiss" is a symbolic Ying & Yang Union, of balance and harmony. Each as equals coming together. 

     

    While I wish we could have seen more "Dangerous roommate" scenes of them together but for a family based drama and getting 3 really awesome kisses (bedroom, hotel room, car), 2 really sweet hugs (coat hug and carpark bag hug) is really the record for any couple in this drama, not even SW-BR wedding can top these scenes. Plus the childhood to teenage building of their relationship and is being able to see their relationship growing like a tree by the river is sweet and satisfactory enough for me.

    After watching them, I can only wish I had a childhood friend and lover like they did (I don't, lol).

     

    Just want to say thank you to the writers, cast and crew of Reply1988, it just blows my mind thinking of how much detail and professionalism goes into the production of this awesome show.

     

    I also want to to thank everyone who was contributed to this post with your thoughts, theories, videos, photos, fan fic illustrations, it was great coming to read all your posts to tide through the difficult hours during the interim of waiting for the next episode. It's bittersweet to part with the cast of Reply1988 but I will always remember I had experienced a great drama during the times of 2015-2016. :')

    I .. I ... I just wanna come in to R E J O I C E with everyone that we saw Taektanic sail on forevermore from today's episode!!! :blush:

    We got what we wanted. DANGEROUS ROOMMATE and then some more!!! :glasses:

    That prolonged over the line kiss of affirmation that Taekkie doesn't want to be just "friends"?!!! That coat hug ...?!!! Seriously ingenious scenes , in addition to our spider man kiss which is proven to be REAL.  Kekeke. I like to think that uri Bogum was damn happy to be hugging Hyeri under that coat too. And damn, that was a long and bone crushing hug. :heart:

    I hope tmr we get to see DK and TK develop their relationship some more, and hope they get a wedding scene! Plus flashback to who DS meant to give the Ghana choc to and how TK found out about DK crush on SW... Did JH tell him over lunch in ep 19? 

    One last episode!!! Bittersweet that it's going to end... I will likely rewatch the entire show again just to reminisce the wonderful characters and relish the show again. I told myself I won't be obsessed with another drama for this year cause lol, this show took a toll on me , literally dying of curiosity for the past 2 weeks on who DK will end up with. But will see, if I can last the year without obsessing over a drama ?! HAHA.

    Let's enjoy the last episode, happy to have been abroad Taektanic with all you wonderful passengers !!! :blush:

    Maternal Instinct and the Subconscious

     

    When ep17 was out, many were puzzled: why was DS suddenly smitten with Taek? Here’s my theory – love can occur in the subconscious. While DS wasn’t aware of her feelings, her actions were a clear indicator. Even when she was testing out JH's feelings, something was brewing in the undercurrent. 

    It may sound funny, but I think love triggers DS’ maternal instinct. Many people thought she was just babying Taek. But the truth is, she wasn’t always like this to him. In ep3, Taek was obviously struggling with his chopsticks, but DS didn’t notice or help him at all.

     

     

    In the period when DS was obsessed with SW, SW tore a ligament and look and what DS did.

     

    DS also wiped NE’s mouth with her thumb, kinda dirty actually, and even in 2015, DS still treats NE like a baby

     

    Taek appa’s instruction to DS for the China trip was short and simple: all she has to do is make sure that he eats. But what did DS do? She packed his clothes, matched the outfits, queued up to buy his meals, changed his room, and even brought a heater mat from home. That’s major maternal instinct at work if you ask me.

     

    Notably, DS started caring for Taek ever since the China trip. Entering Taek's world of competitive baduk and seeing a different side of him had definitely changed her. She reminded him repeatedly not to overdose on medication, stopped others from disturbing him prior to a major competition, made sure he ate breakfast, tucked him to sleep, cut his pork cutlet, and even brought fish bread for him at 11pm (huh?). When DR asked if she liked Taek more than himself, it was her subconscious that replied.

     

    Just like us, DS is also on the hunt for her husband. It would be simplistic to assume that she had always known who she truly loved right from the beginning, or that her feelings would stay true over the years. When Taek gave DS a princess swoop and made her heart flutter, all those feelings of affection hidden in the subconscious finally surfaced in that moment of epiphany.

    Yes I agree with you... I think, we like DK had crushes on SW and JH but it was TK that won us over slowly yet surely with all his sweetness and actions!

    I am re-watching scenes and came across this scene in ep7 when Taekkie told DK "I'll buy you the same ones as my Dad's". regarding the pink gloves.

    This is significant and telling that DK has the same treatment from Taek as He treats his dad, and foreshadowing that she is/will be part of Taek's family. teehee.

    @monsterlife I like how you say that u get giddy when you see how agitated JH fans get after reading Packmule3's post.... Seriously it is quite funny seeing people so heated over ships. :tounge_xd:

     

    I am confident that uri Taekkie is the hubby.... Can I also add that no matter who the hubby is, Deoksunnie is the winner? 

    She got to act and kiss with uri Park Bo Gum and I am also pretty sure in her heart, Hyeri is rooting for uri Park Bo Gum... muahahahaha :glasses:

     

    Ep19 preview... Taekkie reminding JH if he asked him if he saw the wallet? Means he is going to say he did... Because he is not gonna hold back any longer and gonna get the girl.... Taekkie and Sunnie sitting on a tree.... K I S S I N G. 

    Followed by hotel room scene... Preview is very promising for Taektanic.... Titanic may have sunk but uri Taektanic is the ship that sails forever... muahahaha
