    Blame google translate!

Actually you cna use PAPAGO - naver translate for korean articles.  its a much better translator for sure :)

I wish Na PD can just kidnap him and do a TVN Male Leads Over Flowers.  It'lll be fun to see his bevy of expressions on the trip for sure and put him together with Lee Joon Gi, Kim Joo Hyuk and maybe the lead actor from Forest of Secrets.  Then again, all of them are such major stars... NA PD will probably have a hard time. Hahahaha..

I hope he does some variety soon.  Such a natural for it...

Oh.... it seems like "Three Meals a Day" PD wanted to invite KNG to join the hit variety show but it clashed with LUTYN

Why not asking him to just guest on the show?

I think it's a good getaway for him and feast on E-chef's marvellous creations

Actually the article mentioned that they were asking him to guest star but he seems to be too busy with the filming of LUTYN.

  3. I couldn't finish One Day. 20min into the movie and I was really not feeling it. Not sure if it's the directing  (feels very grey) or the lack of chemistry btw him and the actress. The storyline didn't flow quite well.

Then I read the credentials of the director and knew why. He also scripted and directed Man And Woman with Gong Yoo. After I saw that movie, I was so angry for the entire week after. I couldn't believe such a useless male protagonist will exist.

That's why I hope for his own mental health since he's struggled some with depression that he do a few more healing movies and dramas before taking on this genre of films again.

Yeah... I think he need to have or choose a project that the masses will like. Lee Joon Ki was able to gain more fans after his drama Scarlet Heart Ryeo became popular overseas. Gong Yoo also get that with his drama Goblin.  As much as I liked LUTYN... I do not think that it will be able to do that. He's gaining more fans because of it yes, but I don't think it will be that big.

Its actually killing it in the ratings department in SEA as well.  Problem is now TVN is focusing on extending their own station reach in individual coutries that is why they are no longer licensing content to channels like VIKI and dramafever it seems.  They seem to be moving towards partnerships with netflix and HULU as well... definitely interesting.  The buzz in Korea for the drama is really good at the moment, more promotions can definitely be done for it.

I think it will be good if he does his next project with the main stations then again TVN has the best writers and content at the moment.

    Industry & Actors Assessment

    Spoiler

Jun Ji Hyun is solid gold in movie land as well.  But her projects are mainly emsemble ones featuring the chungmuro greats so its hard to tell if her star power will transcend if she holds it up solo.

I got severely bashed in the Lee Joon Ki thread - but truth is he's a B-lister in Korea ATM considering none of his recent dramas in the last 4 years fared well.  He's not a ratings guarantee either.  I doubt the movies side likes casting him either.  Haven't heard of him starring in a local Korean movie for the longest time.

You know what is strange - while everyone has been going on and on about this big name star and that big name star, I feel the star with most consistency both in dramas and moderate in movies is actually Park Bo Young.  Very underrated as she keeps a terribly low profile but she's consistent.

I hope Kim Nam Gil won't make his fans wait too long, and defiitely not go back to filming those depressive noir films again.  BTS shows him very happy and light hearted.  I hope after the drama ends, he'll bring the happiness of Heo Im with him and no longer be saddled by sad thoughts.

Thanks @kimchigal2  I've never heard of Song Kang-ho before so I was surprised... I thought those Halyu stars will be the highest paid actors for movies.

Me too. I do hope that he will do another romcom or maybe with  a bit of action too - I love his fighting scenes in QSD and The Pirates and I hope he will not take a long time break from drama land after this.

I wonder if he have a gf though... he's really good at hiding his private life. Almost everything about his dating life ends up as nothing but rumors.

I'm still very suspicious on Son Yejin and him.  Cos the korean press did catch them "dating".  Not sure if its gone underground or maybe split up, but the word out is that they were definitely going out.

Movies and dramas are such a different ball game here in Korea.  Hallyu stars rank the lowest in the movies world in Korea.  Thats why Song Joong Ki's new movie was heavily panned by critics and when Lee Min Ho did Gangnam Blues, at the Blue Dragon Awards, you could see he was not at all highly regarded by the people in the field.  Movie makers take their craft very seriously and thats why real actors matters most not idols or hallyu heart throbs.  Most of them are willing to uglify themsleves for street cred in the movies scene but still the roles keep going to the same people  - the exclusive 10 million club.  Actors who basically are able to bring 10mil viewers to their films.  This exclusive club consist of Song Kang Ho,  Hwang Jung Min, Choi MIn Shik, Won BIn (?) and most recently Yoo Ah In.  Its like movies headlined by them are a guarantee box office hit, so their fees are highest amongst in the field already.  But Yoo Ah In is only 50/50 compared to Song Kang Ho.  His latest movie Taxi Driver has already surpassed 11 mil admissions.

It will be great to watch him in Saguek as well.  Been too long.  He's at the perfect age where there's a bevy of good A list actresses to match with him.  Moon Chae Won, Han Hyo Joo, Gong Hyo Jin, etc.  If only he's willing to do more shows, I think he's very much as exciting as Gong Yoo now for a drama showing.

  6. Highest paid actor in Korea is Song Kang Ho and he makes 10억 a movie approximately USD800K.

Actually actors who made their fame from dramas need to try to do dramas from time to time to sustain popularity as movie opportunities for them is this unattainable fruit they want more of as it brings critical acclaim and awards. So many take a pittance fee just to get into a movie production. Dramas pay well. Someone like KNG should be able to get 40-70k an episode which is really good money and I'm glad his drama return is met with great success. CFs though is the biggest money generator for all actors. But without hit dramas... CFs dun happen. I'm happy that KNG is enjoying his second wave of fame with LUTYN, the timing of the movie release with this drama definitely did wonders to the box office.

P.s- especially since the reviews were less than stellar tbh.

  7. His manager is the one who discovered him in The Way Home.  I think majority of decisions are still made by him.  I am not entirely sure he's happy.  I've read interviews in his past where he said he wants to make it to Hollywood.  He has big ambitions but now he's struggling to even make a bigger splash in Korea.  Household name - Yes. Major star - not yet.

It might be peanuts but which actor who chooses acting as his life long profession would be content to not reach his absolute potential?  I just don't want another slump for him.  I wish he picks better projects but I'm questioning at this point what kind of scripts make it out to him even.

Lee Joon Ki mentioned that its not that he doesn't wanna do romcoms but he never received any offers.  The competition is real. Korean entertainment business is cut throat competitive.  2016 started with Song Joong Ki fever, overtaken briefly by Park Bo Gum but ended with being All About Gong Yoo.  This year started with Gong Yoo, then Park Hyung Sik come along, Park Seo Joon briefly, now its looking like Kim Nam Gil is going to ascend the CFs and become man of the moment really soon (LUTYN + Memoirs of Murder). Everyone thought YSH will explode this year since Ruler was so hyped, in the end MBC completely botched it with a terrible director and novice writers.

2017-2018 will see the biggest exodus of Alist actors go into the army.  Its a golden period where he can assess good scripts and co-stars based on supply and demand.

To be honest ... I feel saddened even in soompi where he has only 163 pages to his name compared to other actors who have debuted much later than him and in his same age category.  The same fans post over and over again and new posters are few and far in between.

Do I have Yuk-shim to see him do better - of course!!! Do I want him to have new fans.  YES!

I want to be positive... especially after enduring that Ruler crap for so many months but its really facepalm when this kind of news drop cos its pretty much the same type of material he's accepting again.

Maybe the disappointment will be less if I believed less in him.

  8. OK.  Now I'm having serious depression over the storyline, the writers and where this is all heading.

Does he need all this melo crap all over again.  Cry dollops from the abandoned/drugs storyline, then the drugs thing and wrongful expulsion.  OMG - the whole thing sounds like a weekend drama and once again reminiscent of those early 2000 dramas that no one cares for today (Ruler was the same.  It was stuck in the 90s style sageuk storyline + bad writing).  I want his 50 something year old manager to stop picking roles or recommending it for this 20 something year old boy.  Ask yourself, would Park Bo Gum take it?  Would Park Seo Joon take it?  Would the current slate of iT boys whom Yoo Seung Ho should belong in the same category do this type of drama?

What challenge would it be to him?  Something that he has done a gazillion times before.

This is the type of production I wish he would take.  Alongside Park Bo Young or a similar calibre actress. Challenge his acting with something different.

    http://www.dramabeans.com/2017/06/park-bo-young-offered-webtoon-adaptation-will-you-have-dinner-with-me/

    On TVN or JTBC.

I thought I can see him pull off an extension of this MV with this drama. But in a cute and light fashion.  Food, restaurants, ambience.

He said he wanted to start looking at trending type of dramas.  So he should start somewhere.  If not... he's gonna be trapped in the same crisis that Lee Joon Ki is in (action or sagueks) and the only offers going to him always will be these B-list melodramatic productions whom they know his manager/he will take.

    Arrggghhhh I'm so frustrated.

P:S - Kim Nam Gil was pretty much stuck and roles offered to him after his movies and Shark were melos after melos.  Thats why he stayed away from dramas for 4 years.  Now he's met the role of his life in Live Up to Your Name which is breaking ratings week after week. Audiences today are looking for fresh storylines.  I don't like this synopsis at all.  Unless he gets a killer co-star ... I have no high hopes for it.

  9. Disappointed really with the possible drama news.  Why MBC again?

TVN, OCN and JTBC would have been a great new leap for him.  The quality dramas are no longer with the big 3 (save SBS cos they still have enough clout to sign on the super A list stars and writers) - the exodus of talent from producers, to directors to writers especially from MBC (due to the their controversial president) has been happening for the last 2 years rapidly.  They are also going on strike soon.

I'm not surprised if they release news that he's co-star will be an idol group member (likely SM) as it seems MBC dramas are shifting towards investments from music companies.

P:S - If YSH does not progress in his career and make it.  Its the fault of his management.  Sometimes one man agencies are great but frankly this boy has international stardom potential flowing out of every pore and the one thing that seems to hamper him is perhaps his agency model.  Self agency is best option if you're a matured star already like Won Bin or Jo In Sung with movie & drama hits and awards under your belt but for YSH, there's still so much room for growth and he's still not quite there yet.

Big agencies whether you like it or not have connections to top writers, top stars, top directors and because they sometimes make investments in productions, their artistes get first dips. P.S - PBG ( Sidus/Blossom), Yang Se Jong (Good People Ent owned by Group 8 - one of korea's most powerful production companies and people wonder why he's lead in an SBS drama when he debuted only a year ago, opposite Baeksang Actress Seo Hyun Jin as well), Park Seo Joon (Keyeast), Lee Jong Seok/Nam Joo Hyuk (YG actors). How is he going to have an advantage over actors in his competitive age bracket when his chances of getting top projects are compromised from the start?

Unless he switches out of his current comfort model, I am not sure when will he ever meet the role of his life.

Hope I'm proven wrong and I guess he's still young so there's time. BUT these days MBC brand name is a stinker for me.  Case in point: A massive name like Jo Jong Seok being attached and yet production still can't find an actress to take the lead in his upcoming MBC drama is a worrying sign.

  10. I feel the decision was a good one.  I think Sidus also knows that housing KYJ and KSH under one roof is not healthy at all.

The must have parted on really good terms since up to the last few days of her agency, Sidus was still faithfully uploading her videos and BTS shots showing that there's no bad blood between them.  It seemed like a great send off and admittedly the agency has done alot for KSH all the years.

I'm hoping she joins a smaller agency that can focus more on her growth as an actress.  Blossom or Key East should be a good fit.  Fingers crossed just not Cjes. Too much controversy with the JYJ boys right now.

Well I guess it's the other way around for Seung Ho-shi. He'd rather get praised for being good looking rather than a good actor.

Not sure if you meant that as a joke or not but YSH was probably joking during the VLIVE podcast.

The boy has been acting since he was 7, accolades on how great an actor he is has followed him for the last 17 years. Whether he said that to liven up the mood or does sincerely mean it, its all in good fun.  Who doesn't like to be called good looking - likely only hypocrites.

I've been noticing your posts on the shippers thread.  Lets keep the hate and sarcasm at minimum and support these two people who genuinely like one another and are seemingly good friends.  Especially if you're a KSH fan, all the more you should respect her choice in who she allows into her inner circle, at the moment she has mentioned specifically that he is in it.

    Peace out!

Statement by BYR from a recent interview - "엘과 유승호, 김소현이 커피차나 밥차로 먹을 걸 항상 충족시켜주는 현장이었다. 또 어리지만 돈 잘 버는 친구들이지 않은가. 소고기도 쏘고 그랬다. 배우들끼리 밥을 먹으면 항상 유승호가 계산했는데, 말리지 않았다"고 장난스럽게 전한 현장 분위기에서 친밀도가 느껴졌다

It seems BYR is close with YSH, KSH & L (or the latter are really close to each other, sorry I am confused on that part)

Its not an accurate translation but I think he said that the three of them  (YSH, KSH & L) were always on set so he used to go have have coffee or meals with them and that even though they are very young they are close (to him). The chemistry between the three apparently translated on set as well.

He also said something about them always ordering meat when they went out and YSH trying to keep a track of it but I didn't really understand that part. Lol

Apologies if my translation is off! :(

@joyspartace chingu can you please help with the translation?

I think he said that he was gratified that because of L, Yoo Seung Ho and Kim So Hyun, their filming site always had coffee and food trucks.

Although they are still young but they all make good money. So when they go out for meals, yoo seung ho always paid and he doesn't stop him from doing so :)  All said in a joking manner.

    New to this thread! :)

Yea I agree with you, just gonna take everything he said with a pinch of salt.

Regarding his dating, how did u even suspect that he was?

I couldn't, especially with all the articles till 2016 that did not even give a hint that he was. (I mean, well, it's not like its something he/they will announce blatantly but still..hmmm)

Actually he mentioned even in interviews in the past that he has gone on dates and have been set up on blind dates but I think the whole confusion came with specifically his "lack" of experience in having a real relationship.  The dates might have involved hand holding, maybe even kissing but for YSH, I believe him when he said he hasn't been in a real relationship where he can understand the word deeply.

He left the army only in late 2014 and his army comrades had a nickname for him Motae Solo or something which refers to someone who has never been in a relationship before.  Since his departure to date, in less than 2.7 years he has shot 2 movies and 3 dramas, with one that stretched 7 months plus (*cough*ruler*cough*).  Unless he is superman, I'm not sure how he found the time to date someone seriously when he is working so much all the time.

Anyway I hope he won't rush things.  No one is going to accuse him of being gay or something and I found it humorous he needed to defend his "singleness" so much.  Park Bo Gum is a famous motae solo alongside with him as well.  If looking at the productiveness of these boys who haven't really had a real relationship and have spent their focus on acting and the results.  I say "the women will come later... enjoy your work first"

The other 93 liners like Seo Kang Joon, and his teenage love scandal was just messy and came back to bite him later on.  Pointless really.

Actually I'm not surprised if he did say it.

His answers with KSH seems matched to a T. She also used generic fangirls swooning over him to justify that of course at times when his character in the show is cool that she feels the fluttering as well.

Him paying her back a similar compliment is very in line and in tone with all their interviews. He can't use fanboys as she's a girl but it's a well established fact that she's very pretty even when she was a child star so he probably used the public sentiment to pay her back the compliments

  15. For fans who want to read the articles, never use Google translate. It's the worst. The closest to best translation for korean-english is naver translate. Still some crappy as it does also twist a lot of words and meanings but compared to Google and the gibberish it spouts.. 100x better.

P.s - My lecturers in Korean language uni also advised us to use this.

    Just now, Berou said:

@kimchigal2  ah thank you !  we know at least the one year part is true

*bold part* "Isn't it a bit dangerous for me to answer if I was moved by Sohyunnie" was the witty reply from him.

This is what @joyspartace said yesterday. Yshbiased also translated it . Then, the other part ( the heart fluttering )

I used the word "moved" because it's grammatically more accurate. But the direct translation of the word 설렌 적이 is "heart fluttering". So technically the translations are correct just grammatically weird because it's hard to adjust Korean speech into English without sounding strange.

For the dating part, it's important to establish that he has gone on dates (im a 25 year old man emphasized by him) but hasn't had a relationship hence he couldn't empathise fully the feelings of love.

I think I saw one article this morning that mentioned when it comes to melodramatic love he will reserve that for his future girlfriend to see... keke. Sorry haven't had time to read in detail cos way too many articles coming out now. Alot comparing Park Bo Gum and him. Both were at premiere last night.

  17. Here's the criminal comment article.

    http://mtvdaily.asiae.co.kr/article.php?aid=15004797241260674002#_adinctep

Headlines: Dating with Kim So Hyun? It's feels like becoming a criminal

Everything was said in a jesty manner. He was definitely quite playful in this article as reporter mentioned to him that due to their chemistry many people will like to see them date. His reply - "I'm like a criminal" and went on to add "thanks for the support" - imo he was being cheeky here.

Actually all the articles translated so far has no mistakes. Fans of the couple will want to read more into it, fans of individual artistes see it as a collaborative effort to send the production off positively, for me I would love for them to date but young love is tough... Maybe later in life.

The general consensus from the articles though is that the two of them really do like filming with each other. Their answers though coordinated seems to be joyful. Journalists in many of them pointed out KSH is alot more talkative and YSH laughed alot during the interviews.

A lot more Yoo Seung Ho articles were launched late yesterday. Glad he did post interviews this time. Definitely in the spotlight massively compared to his past efforts these two years.

Yes - he did say that he will answer in 1 year if he was shaken by KSH while acting with her.

    Article source: OSEN news.

[인터뷰①] '군주' 유승호 "김소현에 설렌 적? 1년 후에 답할게요"

Headlines: Ruler's Yoo Seung Ho. " Was I moved by Kim So Hyun? I will answer in 1 year's time.

this section emphasizes his thoughts about her and the kiss scene.

"She's not a sister to me but a fellow actor, colleague, someone whom I trust and comfortably can act with."

He also mentioned that the kiss scenes aren't deep kisses but more just lips touching lips. Some articles described him to say ita more popo instead of real kissing.

"I shouldn't answer that question for one year."

rest of article mentions that she's really mature and helped him alot in their scenes together. Reporter also mentions he laughed a lot answering the question.

I'm actually on the fence about Sidus. I feel like they've been pushing KSH a bit too much these last 2 years but they've just gotten lucky with the projects until Ruler which has been a major misstep except for the fact that it gave us this adorable couple! Nonetheless I'm not sure which other agency I would rather she go to because a lot of big agencies handle their artists poorly and small agencies don't have the resources. If the contract were expiring in 5 years instead of right now I would actually support her decision to set up a one man agency but right now I do feel she is still a little young. Irrespective I know I'll end up supporting her no matter what she chooses.

Thanks for sharing the dubbed trailer! I actually really like KSH's voice but I am a bit worried about the voice actors controversy the film seems to be courting. Does anyone have a clearer picture of what k-netz are saying on that?

    Sohyun-ah please just be happy!

I think the CEO of Sidus really takes good care of KSH.

Even Page Turner was a project initiated and produced by Sidus and he had her headline it.  Pros of leaving the agency is that the doubts of incoming jobs being shared fairly and equally between these two precocious actress will finally end.  More say in the productions and projects she does compared to her agency swaying her to accept offers right now.

Cons - With Sidus being such a major power in the films and drama production , alot of times, they will prefer to use their in house artist to front their productions.  She leaving will mean cutting herself out of a slice of the action. Also for School 2015, the producers initially courted Lee Yu Bi  for the role but when she declined, Sidus jumped into action and persuaded them to use Kim So Hyun instead leading to her first headlining role.  They definitely have a lot of clout to them and have treated their artistes fairly well.  Jung Hoon Tak is a legend in artiste management and also discovered Jeon Ji Hyun (thats why despite the money issues between them, she still continued her relationship with Sidus for another 3 years before going solo).  If he's on KSH's team, its a huge bonus to her career and not a detriment.

Its a huge decision and dilemma for her for sure.  But if I were in her shoes, I will likely renew another 2 years, gain more maturity and independence, solidify her actress standing before taking the plunge to self manage.

ISJ is really a classic beauty! I don't remember seeing any of her previous works, but I might check it out if time permits. I enjoy watching her when she appear in the drama but can't tell if she brings value to the scene other than her pretty looks. Hopefully she gets more character development as the drama unfolds.

I dropped this drama two episodes ago and simply surviving on recaps now. I'm hugely torn letting it go as YAI  is my favourite actor of all time and I adore GKP.

I can't help but think ISJ is miscast in this drama. I'm really not getting her and she's the biggest reason why I dropped it.

The casting directors made a huge booboo with this one choosing her fame over her suitability. She's 7 years older than YAI and 11 years older than GKP. Add to the glaring age gap, soo yeon is supposed to be way younger than the two of them by quite a lot hence they were meant to "dote" on her. It's such a big pill to swallow and frankly certain scenes she looks her age (38) and that creates an even wider credibility gap.

I've been trying to find out why I just don't take to ISJ, this is the third production I'm watching her in. I think I finally figured out why.  It's her eye acting. It's not good at all imo. Her eyes feel pretty empty and soulless and that's why it's hard for her to exact chemistry with the costars in all 3 shows I've seen her in. Emotions are written on face but it's the eyes that penetrates the soul. So far I never feel her pain, or happiness or anger written in them. Her delivery seems to be using a combination of facial expressions, body language, voice tonality, kiss on cue, cry on cue. So again her performance fell flat for me.

Add to it is the storyline being based on an era of the past which Koreans dislike and don't care for... the dismal ratings are comprehensible.

Best takeaway for me since leaving the show is still the soundtrack. That one is hauntingly beautiful.

  21. I think the ratings has a lot to do with 1930s setting. Actually its a least favourite time for many viewers as growing up Asian, we have been inaundated with too many Japan occupation dramas that never had a good ending so much so that this genre of dramas had been forgotten for a while in these days due to its heaviness. Also the marketing of a storyline was none existent at all in the beginning. They gave the character bibles but gave no inkling to what the story is all about and how it will evolve. This makes a viewer impatient since they have to tune in just to find out and set up eps are usually boring.

  22. Actually it should not have been too big of the surprise as since 2015-2016, they have been caught up in dating rumours no less than 3 times by different news media. I thought JHB was awesome in Law of the Jungle and basically referenced her as lee junki's girlfriend for the longest time before SH piqued my interest in him later. When I was watching JHB in the reality show, my thought is "that actor Lee Joon Gi has great taste in women, this girl is a 10 in personality and with her killer body."

Im just concerned on the timing for the breaking news though. Lets hope the higher ups in TVN are not petty or overly sensitive to the repercussions on their show format being questioned, this weeks ratings potentially compromised with the cancellation of the special ep portion.  It will be disastrous if they felt LJG or Namoo sabotaged their program indirectly by not containing the news properly. Not the best footing to commence new beginnings with CJ to be honest.

P.s - Though it was never meant to be a dating show. MEC was inspired by the movie 'Her' which was based on two lonely people being drawn to each other through their phone conversations and voice. The romantic connoctation was implied all along. If it wasnt, TVN would not have had to issue an official statement to cancel the special ep as a response/respect to his dating news. Trailers were cut, episode was edited. This means going back into the editing room again to reedit the entire episode.
