    Taeyeon will be MC-ing for the Gaon Awards on the 22nd

    Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon has been chosen to emcee for the first Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards.

    On February 22nd, Taeyeon will team up with composer Joo Young Hoon to lead the three hour event at Seoul Hannamdong’s Blue Square Samsung Card Hall.

    This awards show will honor deserved recipients from 2011, with the data being drawn from digital music sales and record sales. Music industry professionals — including producers, composers, lyricists, choreographers, stylists, and more — will be present alongside artists and idols, making it a real mainstream music festival.

    Some of the awards that will be given out this year include: “Artist of the Year”, “Rookie of the Year”, “Producer of the Year”, “New Find of the Year”, “Composer/Lyricist of the Year”, “Style of the Year”, “Oricon Special Award”, and “K-Pop Contribution Award”.

    Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, the Wonder Girls, B2ST, T-ara, SECRET, Davichi, Leessang, Girl’s Day, Huh Gak and more will be present for the first Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards.

    The event will be aired at 7:00 p.m. (KST) through KBS Drama and KBS Joy as well as through Daum.

    Great anticipation for SNSD's Japan activities of this year. We have a different strategy from that of last year. They newly have US activities, so the key is how we should schedule Korea, Japan and US activities. (^^) I want to tell you about this, but I can't for now (´Д` )"

    according to oniontaker@twitter, the girls have said a us album is being prepared for a spring/summer release and that interscope has been flooded with requests from other TV shows after the Letterman and Kelly performances and that SM is desperately trying to change their schedule but looks unlikely at the moment.

    OK, time for personal opinion right now. I AM SO PROUD AND AMAZED. TBH I was pretty confident they can pull this off despite many people saying that this wasn't a strong song and how America does not dig the whole choreographed performance and SNSD kind of music. I knew that in order to have ANY chance of success in America, you need to be different so there is no point trying to emulate the trends in western pop at the moment but instead, stick with the kpop method of doing things because western audiences haven't seen this before.

    Honestly, the reactions were above and beyond what I was hoping for and I think SM hit the jackpot with the Letterman remix, it showed a perfect combo of SNSD - killer vocals and sharp moves and the Kelly perf + interview really reinforced that and helped establish the girls a tiny bit with the interview. I think we won a lot of fans over so I hope SM and Interscope capitalize on this immediately and rethink SNSD's schedule for the year... And of course, thank you SONE's who are in NYC atm for all the support for the girls and showing America how big they are!

    Sones please report these bashing comments...they have been bashing and bringing up SNSD for three damn pages now. Why is this ONLY allowed in that thread? do the mods feel sorry for them or something? this is pathetic.

    Dang, that is pretty big if what Soy is saying is true about the girls going on 2 shows like that. Letterman is definitely the big one, and Live with Kelly isn't quite the same without Regis, but still a known show. Can't wait to hear more about it.

    Kinda worried about Letterman though... His questions and wit are quite sharp, sometimes bordering on rude, it will be quite a tough interview especially for the girls who will have had no experience with tough interviews in another language...

    Guys, STAY POSITIVE!

    I'm sure this Mr Taxi/no repackaged situation is due to one of two things:

    1. SME have something BIG planned for the girls straight after

    2. The girls are too tired/need a break.

    Either way, its a good thing for us and for the girls right?

    SME didn't become the biggest entertainment company for nothing in Korea, they know what they are doing.

    As for the maxi single.... well.... its not the first time SME has been like this... lol

    Kōhaku Uta Gassen (紅白歌合戦), more commonly known as simply Kōhaku, is an annual music show on New Year's Eve produced by Japanese public broadcaster NHK and broadcast on both television and radio, nationally and internationally by NHK's networks and some overseas (mainly cable) broadcasters which bought the program. The show ends shortly before midnight (when NHK switches to a frenzy of "Happy New Year" greetings from around the nation).

    Literally "Red and White Song Battle," the program divides the most popular music artists of the year into competing teams of red and white. The "red" team or akagumi (赤組, 紅組) is composed of all female artists (or groups with female vocals), while the "white" team or shirogumi (白組) is all male (or groups with male vocals). The honor of performing on Kōhaku is strictly by invitation, so only the most successful J-Pop artists and enka singers can perform. In addition to the actual music performances, the costumes, hair-styles, makeup, dancing, and lighting are also important. Even today, a performance on Kōhaku is said to be a big highlight in a singer's career because of the show's large reach.
