Xiao Qi beame so popular with such restricted screen presence imagine what would happen if they gave him equal footage as the princess and schemers. .

We would all have a hard time being satisfied with a poorly written ML in a historical drama for a long time.

Setting the bar too high is not good for the hearts of the writers and viewers.

I want them to release the cut scenes of Xiao Qi so that I can keep rewatching them .

Yes!!! Not sure if it was the writer intention to limit Xiao Qi's screen time just to keep us wanting more. If that was intentional then they've succeeded because I want more. I am constantly re-watching his scenes because I am not over him yet. Anyway we can get them to release the uncut version?

  2. I cannot agree more with everyone on here. I am a very impatient person so after reading all the comments jumped straight to ep68. And yes am feeling very empty and unsatisfied with the ending. There was so much tension being built up and then......its as if the directors just had enough and decided lets just end this thing fast and wrap it up :')

Fingers cross they release the uncut version as I need more Xiao Qi in my life. Still cannot believe so many good and innocent lives lost while Su Jin'er and Zitan just walks away as if nothing happened, no consequences what-so-ever. Awu didn't even seem angry at all. I mean come on.....Xiao Qi almost died because of these two.

I did however felt sad when general song died because he only went astray in the last part of the movie. And it all happened so fast.

My biggest disappointment with this movie is why give so much screen time to supporting roles. Scenes with Xiao Qi was too short and fast while scenes with everyone else just drags on.

This is such a good find!! To the point summary!! It helped me save so much time. Now I can just skip from 54 to 60. Though I will miss watching the tidbits of XQ & Wang Lin I will keep those parts for later.

XQ in his black silk robe with a slight case of bed head is my phone wallpaper too:wub:

His fall surely hurts. He is the same guy who didn't relent under torture during the Zilu episode... from that to this. And my heart hurts more because he is married to Yuxiu who is just so precious. I shipped them so hard earlier now I wish they had never met:( Now according to the latest promo he stabs Aunt Xu. Wonder why he takes such an extreme step. Hope its not another kidnapping:joy:

MEEE!! I hope they end the show on a good note. I have already downloaded the first 35 episodes of this show & watched all my favourite scenes numerous time  No matter how it ends some scenes, some moments, some characters will remain with me forever!

The.Lannister "XQ in his black silk robe with a slight case of bed head" is my phone wallpaper too:wub:

Can you tell me where to get that photo. I want it please!!

Blooming Blossoms, Good for you, girl! I showed my iPhone wallpaper with Xiao Qi swordplay's awesomeness and those soulful eyes to my husband.  He really tolerates me with my fangirling Zhou YiWei.  He looked at me bemused and could not say anything else. LoL!

I'm not like you guys, I can't watch a series without the English subs. I would patiently wait.  Is it just me, the angst and anxiety level in these ensuing episodes are just too much. In the meantime while waiting for Eng. subs., I'm watching Shaolin Nirvana (The Great Shaolin) Starring Zhou Yiwei. It is so bewildering to see him take on a different role and persona; and believable at that. His acting style is fascinating.

gingemintrose I am obsessed with this drama (by that I mean Xiao Qi) and cannot wait for English subtitles. I watch the raw episodes and pause after each sentence so that I can use Google translate. And as the English subtitles roll out I re-watch them too :')

In recent interview of Zhou Yi Wei on his role playing next to ZZ. He just said that she is a great actress and her experience made it really easy for him as they just know what to do. The kiss scene in ep34 with him trying to give her the medecine was so natural that it makes it real. He also said that our couple would have a very deep discussion about the meaning of being an emperor/empress in the upcoming episods so fans should watch out for this meaningful conversation. Here is the link

    I really need English subtitles:'(

I do not understand anything at all. But still fun to watch.

    Love Xiao Qi

  7. Tomorrow cannot come any faster while I eagerly wait for the last episodes of TRP. So in meantime I'm re-watching TRP and these few points occurred to me:

    * I really miss the kind and loyal General song

    * If I lived during that era I would surely die early. I don't have the brains to scheme against everyone.

    * Wang Lin is just too smart

    * Empress dowager is one tough cookie

    * Love Xiao Qi even more

What an angle to study these characters. Aside from other useless characters,  the prime minister is also an enigma. I admire and look down upon him at the same time. I mean, he really believes that he is capable more than anyone else to rule that's why he wants to seize the throne from his utterly manipulable nephew.  From the onset, he knows the value of Xiao Qi, in spite of his humble beginning but recognizes his talents. As Xiao Qi would say, "it is not me that they want, it is my military power." But Xiao Qi, your military power is synonymous with you, like it or not.  I do not think that Awu is 100% too principled but more or less naive at times. Case in point, her sudden devotion to Qianer and her awful mother.  She can be astute and can play the game. She did not blink to use her sister-in-law as a bargaining chip with Zilv. Or order for her spy to kill Zilv during his wedding. That was acute thinking. But she became muddle-headed in these last few episodes 38- 48.  Xiao Qi is a class of his own. Level-headed, realistic, yet idealistic but is tempered with his understanding of human nature. I think one thing I like about him is that he does not see himself as the center of the world, devoid of narcissism because he knows that if he falls for that that will be his downfall.

Another insightful analysis of Xiao Qi's character.  We have yet to find his weakness aside from hiding the truth of his adopted kids, and feeding Awu with infertility soup. Lol!  Darn, this guy is perfect and we want one just like him for ourself.

Yes, the prime minister is a character to be reckoned with.  The rest of them are really useless, oops.  I love Ayea, Yuxiu, and the rest of the generals Hu, and Hu Yao and Tai ging. Even Peng Gui. But the rest of them are supper irritating.

I will have the same problem as you. I have lived in these past couple of weeks swathed in Xiao Qi's aura.  But i have just installed a Xiao Qi wielding a sword as my wallpaper in my iPhone! XO

That is too funny. I have a husband who is just not into dramas so I've got a cute photo of Xiao Qi and Awu as my phone screen saver just to be on his good side. As soon as he is unaware I will change it to only Xiao Qi :')

This is a really good drama series.  From what I read the ratings aren't that great in China. :(

I hope the audience got over the age thing and gave this drama a chance.

Two more sleeps and then we find out the finale!!

Totally agree with you there. Right from the beginning the age thing never bothered me at all. The storyline itself way surpasses that. Can't express how much love I have for Awu and Xiao Qi. I have never been so obsessed with any drama before. Everything about this drama is just so mesmerising from the actors, production, costume, music and OMG to the way Xiao Qi moves in battle. Love it all. I'm so sad that its coming to an end. What will I do with myself once it ends :')

I think the drama should have been called The Rebel General lol, because I haven't seen Awu as a Rebel Princess as yet. But as much as she is frustrating I think she is acting within character she has never really been that go getter kinder woman, always been controlled by others especially her family. I wouldn't be surprised if we see this Awu up to the end. I just hope she at least supports Xiao Qi in his rebel lol. So I am thinking the name of the drama was supposed to be the Rebel's Princess hahaha they just forgot the apostrophe :tounge_wink:

Totally agree with you there. I loved Awu character at the start. So strong, fierce and bold in decision making. But now her character is confusing me. I really really do hope she at least supports Xiao Qi till the very end. Xiao Qi on the other hand......love love him from day 1. And now I love him even more. He is so amazing on screen, I could really feel his anger when he refuses to kneel before the royal edict and the emperor. I was actually cheering him on because I was so upset when they almost killed him.

Yes, this, thank you! It's very short-sighted of her. Instead of trying to solve the root of the problem (aka royal family), she chooses to ask her husband to run away.

I'm hoping Awu will be smarter and stand by XQ in the last few episodes. Because when she asked XQ to run away together, at that point Awu didn't know it was Zitan behind the whole thing - she only found out after the playdate at the river. So fingers crossed in the following eps, Awu wakes up and become a badass.

Yes!!!! But even when Awu found out it was Zitan she was not planning on telling Xiao Qi anyway. Even asked Aunt XuXu to keep it a secret :'(

    Yes!!

Awu loved and respected XiaoQi because he cared for the country. She said so to Zidan while making a courageous stand against the 1st Emperor's brother.Ningshuo army was instrumental in making the country formidable against their enemies and providing stability. Will vilification of that army pose well for the nation? Just knowtowing in the temple of the departed soilder is not enough. Safegaurding their legacy from false blame should be also a moral duty of the princess of Shanyang.

The series is named as an ode to her so she has to rise up to the challenge.Maybe when she learns the betrayal of her brother and dad 2nd time around will make jiher see Xioa Qi is the best hope for Cheng.

She took her time to come to terms with Jin'er's betrayal.Even trying to understand the 'why' from the traitor's mouth.

Zidan's change in personna is taken in stride but Xiao Qi's quest for justice worries her with the conclusion that he has changed.

I can understand this weak in the knees approach when her brother and dad's complicity is revealed but Zidan getting the same emotional treatment is disappointing.

Fingers crossed the last 5 episodes will not be disappointing!!

Please please... Awu needs to back Xiao Qi up and break ties with her corrupted family. I don't understand why Awu keeps trusting the people who continually lie to her and have no problem killing her if need be. But cannot unconditionally trust Xiao Qi :'(

    Agree with you.

I formulated a theory to keep my disappointment low.

Awu is supposed to carry the burden of morality for all the villains so that they can be badass with impunity.

She doesn't do it for Xiao Qi as she is the strict wife who is supposed to scrutinizes him with a microscopic eye and not trust him with important decisions. She will do that unilaterally for equality of women rights in matrimony.

Xioa Qi however has to proove his fidelity to her at every corner like a dutiful husband.Forgive and forget as wife deems fit.No room for negotiations.

Life of a married man is never easy even in ancient times.

ok lets say for argument sake that is true. I still do not understand how asking Xiao Qi to stop his revenge and run away with her is going to help the people of the country. Awu knows very well that that was not the first time her "royal" family tried to kill Xiao Qi. If I was her I would be so tired of everyone trying to kill my husband and try to resolve the problem and to make sure that no one will ever try again. On her way to the palace she saw how much the people are suffering and that was due to Zidan being the new emperor so obviously he is doing a pretty crappy job. Lets face it he is not Emperor material. All I see him do is sit in his room and look into space.

Zidan even admit to Awu that he has become this monster all because of her and how much he hates Xiao Qi and all he wants is for Xiao Qi to die. Does Awu not feel anything in her heart? Does she not feel like she want to protect Xiao Qi at all? Considering everyone left her to die in Hulan except for Xiao Qi who risked everything just to rescued her. Her brother and Zidan didn't look like they were planning a rescue mission anything soon.

Lets just say Xiao Qi agrees and they run off into the sunset. How will that stop Zidan from trying to kill Xiao Qi again?

Arrgghh.....so upset. And Awu even have the audacity to ask Aunt XuXu if Xiao Qi have changed. She was the one who made Xiao Qi promise to be truthful to he no matter what. She was the one who told him that she will never doubt him ever again. I feel like by asking that question she is doubting Xiao Qi considering he already told her he have not changed. Again.....so upset

  13. Just finish watching the raw version (using google translate) and have to say I am so disappointed with episodes 58-63. I had such high hopes for the drama to finish off nicely but with only 5 more episodes left how is everything going to wrap up. There is still so much going on. I loved the reunion between Awu and Xiao Qi but felt it wasn't sincere enough. I felt like Awu showed more love and emotion towards her evil Aunt who tried to kill her husband (At least she shed tears for the Aunt). Awu should have been furious after finding out that her trusted maid drugged her and handed her over to HZ. But her confrontation with Jin'er was "Meh". The only person keeping me hooked is Xiao Qi. He plays the role so well. I can feel his pain and his anger and his thirst for justice. But my love for Awu is staggering. How can Awu just forgive all the people that tried to kill Xiao Qi. Xiao Qi almost died and so many soldiers sacrificed their lives just so Awu and Xiao Qi can live and Awu's response to all that is "Zidan made a mistake" (Google translation :) ) I can't even start to understand how she can be so calm after finding out the truth. And evn ponder about not telling Xiao Qi....aarrgghh.....so upset!!!

My understanding is that the drama is based on Awu because the title is "The Rebel Princess" but lately Awu has so sass no energy no emotions. Seems she just floating around. I want to see her throw some anger at the people who tried to hurt Xiao Qi. To protect him like he is always protecting her. She is not consistent with the title at all.

Who else is upset, or is it just me?

Well gonna have to wait for English subs and hopefully this will all just be a misunderstanding on my part.

My frustration with Awu is that she doesn't seem to learn from her lessons, so there's no growth or further development. She's also inconsistent in her actions, so her character doesn't even feel anchored. At least with her mom, while she was torn between her brother and her husband, you felt her devotion to her two children. With Awu, there isn't a particularly defining "guiding light" or "north star" for her beliefs. Sure, she's kind but it's kindness for kindness' sake, which gets to be a bit boring. XQ is kind too, but there's a bottom line - who is he kind to and when and why. So in pitting her against XQ (which is inevitable as he's her other half), her lack of depth is further amplified.

Even if I were to defend her and argue that this whole journey has been about her learning how to become the "mother of all nations" - because I'll give it to her that she's always been shown to defend the people - and keep stability so commoners don't suffer...through all that she experienced, she should've learned by now the solution to that is not by maintaining the throne or any single Emperor figure but rather in giving people a leader worth trusting in. She saw what happened to her uncle, her father, Zilong, Zilu - people who are power hungry in maintaining the seat of power but ultimately lead to more instability. Defending the decision to keep Zitan (a person who framed his own General as revenge for stealing Awu!) as Emperor doesn't show greater understanding of what it takes to lead a country.

And of course, I'm super biased because I love XQ. I admittedly hold it against Awu for some of her weaker moments that make us question her devotion and trust in XQ, such:

-Her soft eyes and hesitation for killing HZ. Weren't you planning to kill him anyways to avenge XQ? Like, gurl what changed??? Even if releasing him was a strategic part of having him fight their way out from HT, she didn't have to give him soft eyes.

-Her soft eyes towards Zitan, almost like she was embarrassed by her husband's lack of decorum to kneel before an Emperor that named him and his army for being traitors without evidence

-Her asking Aunt Xu (the maid), Do you think the Lord has changed? Even AFTER XQ has already said he doesn't feel he's changed and that his devotion to her will never change!

-You heard how XQ was injured in the battle. You knew what he and his army suffered, all the indignities. You stood before Hu Guang Lie's grave, knowing he died to protect XQ. You saw how hard your husband worked to defend his people, to fight for what's right. You knew all of this and still, you asked XQ to give up his quest for truth and justice to live a peaceful life - all in the name of "maintaining" the country's stability. Why does it have to be your husband (who was wronged) that backs down? Why couldn't it be the other way around - lets take out all the rotten people?

Oh Awu, how disappointing and flat you have been in these recent events.

There's still 5 eps. Perhaps she will surprise us all.

Yesssss!!!! Totally agree with everything here.

I am also biased because I too love love love Xiao Qi :)
