This drama really is the best to me for a long long time to come. Love the experience of camping here and seeing so many insightful posts and creative art. May we meet again in other thread on other drama. I really wonder what show to c next?

  2. apart from the rain, did anyone else notice that another OTP motif is when the CP causes RO's eunuch hat to drop?

    1. when he revealed his identity and she knelt for forgiveness

    2. that memorable kiss scene

    3. last night's bed scene

The camera normally focuses on the hat rolling on the floor for a couple of seconds.

I can't help but feel like its suggesting (1) an offence that will cause "her head to roll" (2) an article of clothing is removed between the OTP, which signals intimacy and the letting down of one's guard.

Hi all, there's one question I've been wanting to ask because I'm getting more and more confused as time goes by: what is Hong clan's real intention?

I never considered them as "bad" since, as long as I know, all they want is what's best for the commoners (or was I wrong the whole time?). If so, why can't they just help Lee Yeong becoming a king? I don't think Chief Eunuch is blind enough to NOT see how Lee Yeong cares for his people, especially after the incident of the Latern Girl. Let's say that Hong clan will succeed at dethroning the current king, who will they put up on the king position? Uri Raonie O.O? It's not like it is impossible for Hong clan to form alliance with Lee Yeong, since they weren't responsible for his mother's death (after the episode with the little princess, I believe it was Kim clan who killed the ex-queen).

A bunch of problems will be solved if they ally up, like the relationship between CP and Raon or between CP and Kim hyung (Is my thinking too simple?)... Moreover, CP will also obtain his power. I do feel sad for Yoon Sung though. He will be hurt either way if he has to choose between friendship and family (PD-nim, please give him a good ending).

So... help me out Moonies? I know you guys are some real good detectives!

Lastly, I'm sorry if this topic was discussed before. I failed to follow the thread entirely.

I'm confused too! But my understanding is that the Hong Clan is acting for the commoners, to overthrow a King who is helpless under the Kim's clan. During the riot 10 years ago, they failed to do so and it resulted in the death of many.

So the Kims and the King definitely think the Hongs are villains. I think that it was a writing choice for Ra On to believe that her father is evil, since she's been in the palace and she has only heard about how his riots killed so many.

For the White Cloud society, I think their main objective is to overthrow the monarchy and create a democracy? This is my guess, because a democracy during that time sounds awfully modern and radical. But that would be what commoners generally want, to get rid of class hierarchy and the monarchy. So they would not need a replacement king, but an "elected" leader. In this sense, no matter how brilliant Lee Young is, they would still want to get rid of him, because he's part of the monarchy.

  4. GAHHHHHH EP 13 YOU KILL ME

Its heart breaking to think that the CP really did not think she would leave him. The entire episode was her saying goodbye, someone as smart as him would have known that those are suspicious signs (staying close to him, being uncharacteristically lovey dovey, wanting to write down all the stories she told him, she herself even said its the last time when she was on the bed). He must have thought that she would not leave him and so, the suspicions never registered. NUUUUUUUU POOR BABY :,(((((((((((((((

I thought the scene where he discovered was brilliant. Yeah, it was a tad dramatic, zooming in and panoramic shot and silent music. But it was warranted - this is the discovery that the entire drama has being building up to, even more than the fact that she's a girl. This has political consequences and it colours every interaction he had with her. I was screaming when the tortured man said that it was Hong Ra On that instigated the attack, because I knew that this point would be what drives the wedge between the two lovebirds. I can only hope that CP will see that the ministers were behind all this. Btw, the part where Premier Kim killed the man before he could reveal her name - suspicious much? Who does that?! Was hoping that the act of treason would allow the CP to throw the Premier behind bars, but damn, that man's political game is strong.

I'm grumpy that Kim Hyung's role has been severely cut down - unfortunately all he does now is listen and wait for Master Han's instructions. I know that Han saved him and he is after all part of the White Cloud society, but can Show let him have a bit more agency pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee i miss my Kim Hyung

I love Chae Soo Bin's acting and the way her character is written. That pain in her eyes when CP said she couldn't give her heart to him. That strength when she lied that she was doing it for her family and that it was only a political transaction. This is truly the way for a second female lead to love the main lead, I'm rooting for her ~ Also, who loved the moment when her father spoke out in court! unfortunately, it is 1 minister out of like 30, but hey, its a good start.

I also love Master Jung, he's so lovable and smart when he was explaining to the CP HAHAHAHHA please help him navigate through all the ministers' crap! (But i did not like the way K Will's song was cut during the scene with the princess, it felt super abrupt)

I'm also super excited for the Queen's switching scheme. The actress is doing a great job being deranged and evil, with a tinge of desperation. This is my 21st modern sensibilities speaking, but how is she gonna fake the babies, unless she gives birth like, NOW. The boy is going to be much bigger than her girl, no? unless they plan to starve him?

Another point about the Queen - when Yoon Sung visited her, it was super awkward?! Was she scared of him? Was she just scared that he heard her plan? What is their relationship?

Today's episode has CP crying at his desk. My poor heart!

    Sorry for cutting your post!

I loved this scene, I thought that the dramatic tension was perfect, the look of realisation on his face and the matching determination on her face. The pic you posted was so beautifully shot, except for the fact that he looks like a giraffe, hahahah his neck is so long. I love you, Joohyuk, you are second only after Joonki

  6. My heart is broken, because of this episode. And its not even what happened in the episode, but the fact that this episode is such a letdown.

In the last episode, the action was ramping up, the main romance was about to begin, and the wretched 2nd romance was (finally) going to die out. This episode, everything took two steps backwards. Honestly, the first thing she said to a guy who turned his back on her at the time of her greatest need is "did you miss me?" and she said "leave with you? do you want me to die?" to the person who sheltered her in the rain. One of my guy friends who was watching commented "This girl is a prime example of why it is impossible to understand girls."

Also, I'm not sure if its poor editing or poor subs, or just poor writing in general, I did not understand anything at all. What happened in the King's throne room? How did he know that she came from the future? What are his plans for her?

Why does the 3rd prince need to kill the king? The man is already withering faster than a plucked flower, don't need to waste your effort finding an assassin?

Why did we cut to the 10th prince? Just to see a shampoo advertisement? There has been little progression in this relationship, and I'm losing patience.

13th and Woo Hee are cute, but once again, it is difficult to understand. How did it come to him coaching her on the dance? Did he know that she was going to be dancing for the king?

When did Hae Soo and Woo Hee meet??!?!

Of course, there were some brilliant parts:

    1. Yeon Hwa turning the tables on Queen Yoo. I love it when richard simmons fight HAHHA

    2. The confrontation between Wook and So was just brimming with tension and angst, wew

    3. When So rejected Yeon Hwa, awwww yis take that, scum princess

All in all, a disappointing episode. Why does the show raise my expectations only to let me down so forcefully?

I'm really glad that MDBC is getting so much love in Korea, but I want it to gain some international recognition too!

As the Crown Prince said, one becomes greedy when one's in love.

She is still there. Despite being taken as a prisoner by the envoy, getting slapped a few times and nearly being exposed as a gal by Her Evil Highness she continue to stay in the palace. She is in a forbidden relationship with a prince. She knew her position in society. There is no way the palace gonna allow her to be his wife. But still she did not allow any fear of the future uncertainties to stop her from accepting wholeheartedly his love. That took some courage. It is such a pleasure watching these two young love blossom.

Please remember before she entered the palace she is just a simple bright gal living like a regular joe in the street. Unlike CP, BY and YS she was never trained how to fight. . So you won't see her kicking some badass. But she did not hesitate to take the missing dancer place and foiled the Kim's plan. This gal spunk is all in the heart.

100% agree. She's still sassing the Crown Prince, and hanging out with her fellow eunuch trainees. The fact that she remains in the palace is already quite a feat - it is capital punishment for the offence that she is committing, passing off as a eunuch. Not to forget, she thinks that she already lost her mother and her adoptive father outside of the palace, and she found her love in the CP. There is no character motivation to go out of the place and get into trouble like she once did.

  9. I just finished watching the subbed version and I'm dying for so many reasons

    1. (He doesn't seem to be the sort that is proud of such things, but) PARK BOGUM YOUR BACK WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME. Kim Jong Kook, you deserve a clap on the back too, for being his trainer hahahaha.

    2. The fighting scene when CP was KILLING IT with just the cover of his sword. In fact, when he saw Ra On held at sword point, I was reminded of Joongki in Descendants of the Sun, when he dropped his gun after seeing that Hyegyo was being threatened. They  would rather be unarmed and secure the girl's safety first.

    3. The back hug with Ra On, when he said that no one will take away her happiness without his permission. SWOON. IRL, if someone said that to me, I would laugh in his face, simply because that's a ridiculous promise. But in dreamland, and because he is the Crown Prince, it works

    4. The intimacy of removing her hat and sitting her on his lap. I'm a small girl in real life too, so I know that that is the best way of looking into your tall boyfriend's eyes heheheh

    5. Yoonsung ah, you're pretty cool too. You're smart and observant (noticed something wrong with the guard), you fight well (he just rolled into the room, gahhhhhh) and you do so much for the girl you love. There are plenty of fish out in the sea, don't be sad, poor child.

    6. (DYING FOR A SAD REASON) When CP thought Byungyun was the one behind the mask NUUUUUUUUUUU. On that point, I'm very worried that Byungyun is acting on Master Han's orders. I have no doubt that he is not going to betray the CP when it comes down to it, but it just feels like a betrayal now, when he is taking instructions from someone else and keeping it from the CP.

    7. (DYING FOR ANOTHER SAD REASON) Now that Ra On knows about her father, I'm not sure if she will keep it from the CP. At this point, with Byungyun keeping stuff from him as well, I don't want the CP to continue being in the dark. I think that as audience, we have come to count on the fact that the CP will figure things out fast - there is no secret that he does not know after a couple of episodes (except Ra On's gender). I wonder how the show is gonna handle this.

ALRIGHT! WHERE’S THE LINE TO SLAP YH? I want to get a spot early so I don’t miss my shot!

Seriously tho, YH is the most stone cold witch with capital B that I’ve seen in historical dramas in awhile. She has ZERO shame. She just pops right up in front of the doctor not even bothering to maintain her dignity or her cover story. She doesn’t even seem to care that lady oh will die for her crime or that she's ruined her brother's happiness forever. I can't decide if her actions were about her ambition or her jealousy of Hae Soo, but I suppose it doesn't matter. She's proven that she can't be trusted or loyal to anyone. I doubt the evil queen, knowing how easily YH turned, would ever let her marry her favorite son Yo. I predict YH won't get the grand reward she'd hoped for. (At least here's hoping.)

Apologies on cutting your post, BUT THIS RIGHT HERE.

when Yeonhwa arrived with her mother to stop Wook from going to Soo who was pleading for Lady Oh's life, i wanted to yell THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT STOP STANDING THERE AND TELLING OTHERS WHAT TO DO YOU HAVE SOME NERVE

I may have missed something, but what "story" did she tell the evil queen? It seems like Yeonhwa just did her dirty work for her?

Kang Ha Nuel daebak! Wang Wook makes people wanna thrash him, right? But the actor is soooo cute! Sorry, I digress.

Next ep is not just the plot development of WS-HS-WW relationship but also the side plot of Won Hee and Baek Ha! They are the only second couple I am shipping in SHR! <3

We don't see the 10th prince in this ep at all! He totally turned his back on her :angry::angry:

I love the scene here that Baek Ah went to visit HS - does anyone realise he is the first one to see her while she knelt? I am gushing over that scene right now!

i really liked that Baek Ah was the first and useful of the princes, preparing medicine for her. A man of sense. I knew I liked you for a reason, Baek Ah.

  12. Wang Wook, did you seriously just turn up to turn your back on Haesoo, LOL.

I really really really really really like the ending scene, when Wang So stood next to Haesoo. Not only is it a beautiful throwback to the Chinese version, I like that Haesoo, who was originally on her elbows in despair after Wang Wook turned away, got up and retreated into the shelter of Wang So's robe. It was the moment that my SoSoo ship felt ready to leave the port. HAHAHAH.

I also liked that they showed So holding her up and calling her name furiously while she fainted in his arms (though Haesoo faints too many times in this show, that the dramatic effect is reduced). His desperation, concern, anger, love and helplessness was all shown in this scene, even though we could not hear him calling. Someone give that man a Daesang already.

  13. I also really liked Jung and Soo's interaction today, chamchamcham was cute!  :w00t:

Jung's character was done nicely this episode. He was aware of the changes in his mother and Yo after Wang So came to the palace. He was wistful for the good old times when the politics were minimal. Because of this, he dislikes Wang So. Not because Wang So has a scar, or because Wang So did anything to him in particular - Wang So just showed him how evil his mother and older brother Yo was. This is such a good exploration of Jung's character, and gave him so many additional layers, as the youngest and doted upon son in the evil queen's family.

SO MUCH BETTER THAN WHEN HE WAS JUST FROLICKING AROUND BEHIND EUN.

Another character that was done well today was Eun's wife. She asked him to be polite to Soo, as a prince. That was correcting his petty behaviour, as a wife. But at the same time, she was not exactly best pals with Soo, naturally, since she is envious that Eun liked Soo so much in the past. It was understandable when she told Soo off for stepping out of line and telling her what to do as Eun's wife.

so if HS told him that she loves someone else... why is he taking away her choice from her?

If a girl tells you she values you as a friend and that she loves someone else.. and your response will be that I will kill that person??? .. totally goes over my head.. on one hand you are trying to respect her by saying you won't kiss without permission, you are willing to leave palace , do anything to save her... but on other hand you can't respect her decisions in her own life???

If one loves someone, one should be responsible for one's feelings. If you love her, love her.. you want to care for her, care for her, protect her.. but you can't have this condition that since i love you, you must love me back.. or less you also live a miserable life without any company..

I haven't really bothered with Wook till now.. in all 9 episodes (literally ff his scenes).. but this is too much..

WS has literally made HS incapable of pursuing her life and love.. she can't accept Wook and obviously.. why should Wook play nice if someone else is keen on snatching away his love from her..

How would you feel if Wook goes threatens IU that dare you be with WS..

this is ridiculous.. lazy writing.. they have no clear definition for WS character in love.. he is full of contradictions and his personality keeps fluctuating

I think some people have said that this sort of behaviour is expected from the men of those times. Goryeo was a warring empire and women were seen as mere possessions back then. His response, while obviously unaccepted in modern times (and which I do not appreciate as well, being full of modern sensibilities), is probably common in the past.

I also don't think that he demanded that she love him back now? I think that he knows that she needs to come around it slowly, so he told her that he will wait for her to give permission before he kisses her again. :)

I agree that Wook does not have to play nice. In fact, I think we are all tired of Wook playing nice. GIVE US BADDIE WOOK ALREADY!

Not a big fan of the writing in this drama (the last episode, IU's character made me cringe and shake my head in disappointment) , but I have to say that this episode was pretty solid!

  15. This was such a great episode, with so much intense acting and a much quicker, tighter pace.

YAY :D I'll bet that the ratings went up for this episode. NO WAY KOREA IS GONNA IGNORE THE TALENT THAT IS LEE JOONKI

I can't wait for the rain scene, which was my favourite scene in BBJX. gahhhhhhhhhhh the feels

side note: can Seohyun stop randomly appearing for 20 seconds in every episode? when are we gonna get an explanation of what she is and what she is going to do?

  16. also, i'm sure that Hayeon is going to be a good character! From what I understand, she said that she wants to do her best to provide the Crown Prince with the political support that he does not have, by linking their families. Even when her father warned her that she might end up single and alone if the marriage falls through, she was willing. High hopes that she will be an admirable 2nd female lead!

  17. First post in here, to defend our Crown Prince! :)

I don't think he was being greedy, I think the poor guy is trying to fight fire on too many fronts. He has to deal with his father's paranoia, Premier Kim, the rebels, the new officials after the exam and trying to recruit his teacher Dasan.

He also objected strongly to the marriage, and like some of you also said, he probably did not know that the eunuchs were going about with the preparations despite his protest.

On a sidenote, I AM SO GLAD THAT HE WAS THERE AT THE LAST SCENE. I WAS SERIOUSLY DREADING A SCENARIO WHERE EUNUCH HAN TAKES RAON AWAY AND SHE WILL MISS THE DATE WITH THE CROWN PRINCE AHHHH THANK GOD THAT DID NOT HAPPEN

I'm hoping with all my heart that he will somehow use the White Cloud society to strengthen his political power. After all, its the Moonlight drawn by Clouds, right?

  18. This is my very first post, and its so unfortunate that it is a rant about the drama :(

I have been anticipating this drama since the start of this year, but I'm so disappointed by the end result. A lot of you guys have already said it: unnecessary close shots, weird pacing and editing, inappropriate background music, etc.

But I'm the most upset about the writing. I get that it is an adaptation of the novel, and of the Chinese drama, and it is not supposed to be a complete mirror. In fact, that's impossible, since this is about Goryeo's history, and that was about Yongzheng, the Chinese emperor. To me, this is the fundamental flaw of MLSHR, because it tries to set up similar conflicts, but it just ends up flat and unexplained. The producers were too ambitious in creating so many relationships - Haesoo with each prince, 13th with Woohee, 10th with General Park's daughter - that they neglected the main couple.

On top of that, SBS had time to piece together the scenes carefully and ensure that a coherent story was told. If the international one was the original one, it is choppy and confusing. They knew that they did not do a proper job, and so they re-edited for the Korean version (too late, in my opinion). But even the Korean version is not much better. There are still too many gaps that the audience is forced to accept and the story is all over the place.

I feel horrible for the actors, because I believe that they put in their 120% for this drama. Also, the scenery and costumes were all wasted since the shots are all close-ups and we barely get to see much of the beautiful surroundings.

I'm still going to watch and continue this drama, because I love Lee Junki and Nam Joohyuk and there are some precious moments to celebrate. But all in all, for a blockbuster production, MLSHR is a let down.

(I'm so sorry for being negative with my post, but gahhhhhhh disappointment after disappointment, I can't take it anymore)
