  1. Seo In Guk Gets Embarrassed At Being Called A “Kiss Master”

    shopping king louie

On November 25, Seo In Guk sat down for an interview about his recently wrapped drama, “Shopping King Louie.” In the drama he played a conglomerate heir who falls in love with a country girl (Nam Ji Hyun).

Of all the scenes in the drama, he picked his first kiss scene with Nam Ji Hyun as the best. “I think that when people watch it, they will cheer us on. I think it came across as a very pure kiss. It was probably the first kiss for both characters. So when we acted it out, we made sure to be a little tentative.”

He added, “I think Louie and Go Bok Shil have about four kiss scenes in the drama, but the first one is the best.”

Seo In Guk is known as the “kiss master,” having established great chemistry with all his leading ladies so far. “That’s so embarrassing,” he said about the nickname. “It’s supposed to be a compliment, but the wording is so embarrassing. Kiss scenes are the highlight of a drama, but I don’t think skill enters into it. Kiss scenes need a well-made narrative to bloom properly.”

  2. What does Seo In Guk think of his nickname, 'Master of Kissing'?

    Seo-In-Guk

You write it as Seo In Guk, and read it as the 'Master of Kissing'. If you've watched his dramas, then you know that Seo In Guk deserves the title. The singer and actor is known for his incredible "skills" in filming kiss scenes, and most recently, he gained attention for his performance on the MBC drama 'Shopping King Louie'.

In an interview with Star News, Seo In Guk shared his thoughts on being the 'Master of Kissing'. He said, "It's very embarrassing. It's a compliment, but the word is just embarrassing."

He continued, "A kiss scene is like the flower of the drama, and I don't think there's a specific concept of doing it well. However, in order for that flower to grow, there needs to be a [good] description, and I think I was able to make it because it was beautifully drawn."

    Aw, aren't they cute?

You have to get excited for upcoming MBC drama 'Shopping King Louie' because once 'W' is over, you're gonna be craving something new to watch!  And looks like there will be super cute chemistry between the leads in this drama, too.

Seo In Guk posted a new picture onto his Instagram on August 26 of himself with his co-star, Nam Ji Hyun.  He looks down abashed while she pets his head, making everyone go awwww.  She really takes on her character well, wearing countrified attire with a curly perm.  He captioned the picture with, "Again, Bok Shil comforting Louie."  Adorbs.

  4. The Magnificent Seven cast put through a cowboy boot camp.

Director Antoine Fuqua put The Magnificent Seven cast through a cowboy boot camp.

The Training Day moviemaker reunited with Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke for the remake of the 1960 western of the same name, and cast Chris Pratt and a diverse ensemble of actors to play other members of the titular group.

To make sure his cast were up to the task of convincingly playing deadly outlaws, Antoine sent them to boot camp to hone their skills.

"They were shooting and on horses every day," he told Total Film magazine. "If I didn't need them for a few hours, they would all go out shooting and horse riding. They had a great time."

When asked who had the most formidable skills, Antoine had trouble deciding between Denzel and South Korean actor Lee Byung-hun, who plays assassin Billy Rocks.

"Denzel is pretty powerful on his horse and he had that gun with him all the time," he said. "It'd be between him and Byung-hun - he was great with the gun and the knife, like a ballet dancer, the way he moves."

Antoine brought the remake up to date by changing the names and occupations of the seven, casting a diverse set of actors, including a Hispanic outlaw and Native American warrior, and making sure the lead female Emma Cullen, played by Haley Bennett, doesn't conform to stereotype.

"It is important to not have a woman in distress or just there for a sexual object," he explained. "All those things help make it feel contemporary."

Antoine met with studio executives who compiled a list of possible actors for the film and most of them were white, but it was important to him to make a diverse Western so the audience can identify with more of the characters.

The Magnificent Seven is released in the U.S. and U.K. on 23 September (16).

  7. 38-Task Force becomes the highest rated-drama in OCN history

38 Task Force, 38 Revenue Collection Unit, Squad 38, OCN, K-dramas

The series, starring Ma Dong Seok (Dr. Champ, Bad Guys), Seo In Guk (Reply 1997, Hello Monster), and Sooyoung (K-pop idol of Girls’ Generation), was about a task force chief (Dong Seok) who works with South Korea’s National Tax Service, and Yang Jung Do (In Guk), a professional swindler, teaming up to swindle the richest members of Korean population who avoid paying their large amounts of income taxes.

The plot concept for the series already put the K-drama at an advantage given that most political K-dramas are not successful. As a result, 38 Task Force concluded successfully with a high viewership rating for a K-drama airing on a Korean pay channel. Not only that, 38 Task Force is officially the most successful K-drama the network has aired in its history.

According to the viewership ratings provided by Nielsen Korea, the final episode’s viewership rating for the Seoul National Capital Area was 4.024 percent while the nation’s viewership rating was 4.559 percent. As for TNS Media Korea, the nationwide viewership rating was 6.7 percent.

It should be noted that the final episode was the highest rated for both viewership rating companies for the nation too.

All the positive details that made 38 Task Force very popular returned tenfold as the K-drama is officially the highest-rated OCN series in their history,  The series averaged at 3.3444 percent for the nation for AGB Nielsen, and 3.363 percent for the nation for TNS Media Korea.

“Squad 38” Cast And Crew Earn A Trip For Record-Breaking Ratings

The cast and crew of “Squad 38” are going on a vacation for breaking OCN’s records for highest drama ratings!

“They will be leaving for Phuket, and the actors will be joining the staff once they finish adjusting their schedules,” stated CJ E&M.

“Squad 38” received a lot of attention for their first episode, which achieved 3 percent ratings. At the eight episode mark, the drama broke OCN’s highest drama rating record of 4.1 percent. At 12 episodes, it reached 4.5 percent. Despite having four episodes left, there is a possibility that the drama may even reach 5 percent ratings.

The only other dramas to go on a CJ E&M sponsored vacation have been “Reply 1988,” “Signal,” and “Another Oh Hae Young.”

The cast and crew plan to leave on either August 8 or August 17 after scheduling their plans.

  9. HOW TO GET LEE BYUNG-HUN’S STYLE

    lee

Film junkies will recognise the face but likely have no idea how to pronounce the name. Say it with us: Lee Be-Young Hoon.

Since making his transition into Hollywood, the acclaimed Korean actor has set the precedence for badass Asian dude in numerous films as well as the loveable anti-hero. The 45-year-old has starred in films such as G.I Joe and will share a role in the upcoming Magnificent Seven alongside a stellar cast including Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Matt Bomer and Ethan Hawke.

What Lee also does exceptionally well is dress damn fine. From an immaculate Summer ensemble to the slickest weekend threads, these are the three coolest looks you can steal from the man.

Lee Byung-Hun takes his wardrobe inspiration primarily from the Europeans. It’s all about finely cut outfits paired with loafers sans-socks (or with invisible socks) and a decent carry bag always close by. For a more casual affair on the go the actor opts for trusty denim and sneakers.

His first look is his most polished look reserved for awards or fashion shows. Ditching the formal look for something a little less restrained but still just as stylish, Lee takes a double breasted blazer with an intricate weave finishing and pairs it to fitted navy trousers (a pair of chinos is also fine in this case). Worn over a white dress shirt left two buttons undone, the look is both laid back and ultra stylish to provide a great visual impact. The loafers no doubt add a bit of modern Italian to the look in order to kick it up a notch in the trend stakes.

Moving along to a more casual affair, Lee still doesn’t drop his game. A striking navy bomber featuring red-striped cuffs is paired perfectly with beige chinos and the trademark loafers sans socks. Slap on a pair of reflective wayfarers and you’ve pretty much pulled off the greatest beachside-in-Winter look ever.

When taking on airport duties Lee opts for comfort but never of the daggy variety. Fitted black denim cut slim paired with black Ultraboosts, a simple plaid shirt and a denim is all it takes to elevate the standard airport fair to something a bit more special. Aviators? Mandatory.

SEOUL, July 22 (Yonhap) -- The broadcasting rights to a popular South Korean crime drama have been sold to 10 countries, mostly in Asia, the series' cable network said Friday.

"Squad 38," starring the "Superstar K" singing audition winner Seo In-guk, is a thriller about a civil servant and a conman working together to collect taxes from tax evaders.

OCN said the broadcasting rights have been sold to China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand.

"We didn't have high expectations, but the response from overseas has been good," an OCN official said.

The drama set a record for the channel by hitting a top viewing rate of 5.4 percent during its eighth episode on July 9.

The series airs at 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.

  11. Acclaimed Korean Actor Lee Byung-hun Honored At The New York Asian Film Festival

    LeeByungHun

One of South Korea’s top actors, Lee Byung-hun, was honored with a Star Asia Award at the 15th annual Asian Film Festival at Lincoln Center Tuesday night.

Lee, a silver screen veteran who made his debut 25 years ago, garnered much praise in recent months for his role in Inside Men, a slick political thriller underscoring the country’s corruption through the alliance of media, politics and large corporations. His portrayal of An Sang-gu, a thug out to get revenge on an influential columnist, was lauded by many as one of his best performances and a character that outshone the rest of the cast.

“When I first read the screenplay, I thought An Sang-gu was portrayed as a stereotypical thug, very rough and simplistic… and because [the film] was such a tightly plotted screenplay, I felt there wasn’t a lot of room for the audience to breathe…”  Lee said during his sit-down interview with FORBES ASIA. “So I wanted to add more color to [An Sang-gu] and inject more humor into his character.”

Released last November, Inside Men was the highest-grossing R-rated movie in Korea’s history, according to the Korean Film Council. More than 9 million admissions were recorded, raking in nearly $63 million worldwide.

The hype around the film is perhaps timely. Last month, prosecutors raided the headquarters of the Seoul-based Lotte Group, South Korea’s fifth-largest conglomerate by assets, following an investigation into alleged slush funds and the lobbying of government officials to build the Lotte World Tower.

Lee didn’t seem to think the film’s success was entirely good news, referring to the larger issue of the country’s sentiment toward politicians and chaebols (South Korea’s family-run conglomerates). “The film provided an outlet for the public to release their frustrations,” he said. “It goes to show the problems that are deeply embedded in our society.”

In February Lee became the first Korean actor to present an award at the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles; he did it with American actress Sofia Vergara. “Although I was there as a presenter, it still felt like a dream come true,” he said.

His latest American film, The Magnificent Seven, in which he stars as the assassin Billy Rock alongside Hollywood heavyweights Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, will hit theaters in September. Previously he was cast in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra as well as Terminator Genisys. Lee says he considers himself lucky to break into the American film industry, which critics say suffers from a lack of diversity. The issue has reignited a heated debate in recent years.

The two other recipients of the Star Asia Award this year include Hong Kong’s Miriam Yeung and John Lloyd Cruz from the Philippines. Cruz is the first Southeast Asian actor to receive the award.
