Well it has decent ratings... but Ive watched until episode 17 and I think its not as successful  as STARS because of the plot... and after watching one episode Im not in a hurry to watch the next, Im just watching lotbs for Jjh, and I hate to admit but legend for me isnt worthy of my time and disappointing ... (still watching just for the sake of watching jjh ahahhaah), although I love the innocence and sweetness of sim chung , the character is poorly written...I hope she choose her next project carefully whether its a movie or a drama....

LOTBS is getting good ratings. Ratings in the upper teens is nothing to scoff at. If you compare it to previous buzzed about dramas like W-Two Worlds and Jealousy Incarnate, LOTBS did better in the ratings. However, considering the budget, the writer, director and actors in it, LOTBS was expected to be in the 20s at least. The criticisms that I've read in Korean articles was mostly about the plot and direction. If anything, the articles pointed out that it was the performances of JJH and LMH keeping the ratings high.

Goblin is popular because Writer Kim Eun Sook has a good track record in creating dramas that women like to watch. If you look at all her past dramas, they all had super high ratings even Heirs. Kim Eun Sook is like the Stephanie Meyer {Twilight} of Korea or the Fifty Shades of Grey writer. I personally don't like these writers, but I have to give them props for getting a lot of women to watch. Women have the biggest influence on k-drama ratings. That's why a lot of the high rating dramas are all about romance and really pretty people. While women control k-drama content, it's men who control Chungmuro (Korean movies) viewership. A lot of successful Korean films in terms of viewership revolve around violence, revenge, or both.

FYI, LOTBS and Goblin are owned by the same company, CJ E&M (Studio Dragon). CJ E&M must be happy that their two dramas are winning their time slots. CJ E&M's stock prices in KOSPI (Korean Stock Exchange) have risen because of LOTBS and Goblin.

Sadly, I have a feeling it will be a while before we will see JJH in another drama. She's been honest in interviews how hard it is to film dramas with its live shooting especially LOTBS with the underwater scenes. Her next project most likely will be a movie. There are rumors about her signing up to do a movie circulating around the internet. On the January 1st episode of MBC Entertainment Section TV, the entertainment reporter mentioned that JJH was getting a lot of love calls from Chungmuro so this was something to look forward to in 2017 for JJH.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. About Kim Eun Sook or her next projects, maybe KES's dramas are not my style, especially Heirs. Btw, I have to admit that LoBS <<< Stars. Stars is my all time fave drama, not too cheesey like others Kdrama, and a lot of lessons there, especially that Chun Song Yi character is perfectly written, unique in kdramas. But that doesn't mean I don't love LoBS. Her performance and efforts in LoBS are undeniably. And now she's a mother, I don't think that she'll comeback in a new project soon, but I hope she choose her next project carefully whether its a movie or a drama. Sorry for my bad Eng

Thank you for your reply and explanation. I don't watch many Kdramas therefore my understanding is somewhat limited. Maybe once a year, if I am lucky because my last drama I watched was STARS. Also LOBs was such a highly anticapted drama both starring LMH and JJH, and the writer of STARS I believe, I thought the drama would have been more successful. Also going to the LOBs thread on Soompi its very much a LMH thread, so it's nice to hear views from a different perspectives But I think she will take some time off, recover and spend time with her son before choosing her next project. She's too hard working, very dedicated. I hope she takes care of herself more.

  2. So the drama is wrapping up soon. I only watched the first two episodes because I like to "binge" watch and watch it one go. However, I have been following the drama bits and pieces here and there.

I am sure the drama is good, however, my question is why the drama isn't getting high viewership (%)? Being curious, around episode 10, I compared he two dramas and noticed a big difference in %. STARS by now % would be around the high 20s - low 30s. I have noticed, maybe Goblin is more popular but not certain how it affects LEGEND rating.

In LEGEND, JJH does wear nice outfits and makeup. Why is there no hype this time around? I can't remember was it from this thread that I read, or somewhere else, that the fashion market at the moment is not doing too well (somehow I feel I got this info wrong).

From what I have seen, short clips here and there, she has done an amazing job. Although the drama cannot be compared to STARS in term of success. I hope she doesn't get discourage from filming drama. I think she will have a break and spend time with her son and husband, before filming a new movie.

  3. Silent lurker from this forum, but have always LOVE Jeon Ji Hyun since her "My Sassy Girl" day. So my last drama which I watched, was coincidentally "My Love from Another Star" and I have watched that drama for so many times. Therefore,I am anticipating and looking forward towards her new drama with Lee Min Ho.

Anyway, fellow soompis, are you able to assist me since I don't watch K-drama often...where can I watch her new drama with English subtitle...but also preferably, where can I download the drama (so that I can re-watch it again in the future). Thank you very much for your help

On a side note....Is it a coincidence? That the last episode and last 15 minutes of the drama, where we see JJH preparing and walking on the red carpet, dated 2017. When this drama wraps up, it will of course finish in 2017 and do doubt our goddess will receive many awards for her outstanding performance.

  4. @demarchelier.... hello!!! How about her beaded dress on the hera cf?? I really love that dress, she looks fuller on front hahahhaha.... same with the dress on the kloud cf... anyway, thanks for the updates

I too note that she looks fuller on the top

I am hoping she will attend next Busan Film Festival. I want to see the progress of her pregnancy

She will be 20 weeks next week!!!I hope she have the baby bump already, some women dont show until on their 6th month/ 24th week.... LBY last year on SBS awards was on her 5th month but still barely showing hahahha...

Some women don't show until the last trimester of their pregnancy, and somehow I have a feeling JJH may be the same. In the Kloud Beer CF, only her chest fuller otherwise her bump was not noticeable (considering it was a hugging dress). But dang!!! It may be the "make-up" but she is glowing; the "pregnancy glow". By now, she should know the gender of the baby. I wonder will it be a girl or boy, he or she will be one good looking child :P

  5. I doubt any of those actresses mention above will ever reach Jeon Ji-Hyun popularity, because their success and pathway is different from JJH from the moment of their debut. Suzy and Sulli were already popular before their debut as an actress, fame coming from their girl gorup; Miss A and F(x) respectively.

JJH fame and popularity is also different among K-actresses when compared to Song Hye-Kyo, Kim Tae-Hee, Ha Ji-Won and Ha Gan-In just to mention a few. Those actresses which I mention, focus more on TV dramas whereas JJH focused more on movies; which gave them more exposure to the media and they were always considered the great/ideal beauties of Korea. JJH popularity is only showed case to those who watches her movies depending on the level of success. As we are on the topic of her movies, only "My Sassy Girl" was a success and movies after that were not as successful which caused her popularity to drop. Her popularity only slowly rose again after the success of "The Thieves" and of course "You who came from the Stars". Prior her marriage, her overseas debut for "Blood: The last Vampire" and "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" did not also receive much recognition.

I am proud of JJH, during "that decade" she was able to overcome her hardship and work back up to where she is today. Considering this was not easy feat, to pull yourself back up and prove to everyone that you still have that talent which people can appreciate, love and admire. I believe things happen for a reason and she was at the right place and at the right time. Whether she missed previous opportunities, who knows but when "You came from the Stars" came she knew to grab onto that opportunity. And now when I re-watch the drama again, I wonder is anyone able to pulled from Cheong Sung-Yi's character - bipolar and have multiple personalities and characters. If there is someone I can compare JJH to, it would be Lee Young-Ae, I believe the two are good friends and yet their popularity and fame is quite similar. Wishing JJH all the best especially with bubz coming along as well as her future projects; hope to see her on screen after her pregnancy.

  6. Hi there,

Silent follower of the forum (Adelaide) Australia. I absolutely love Jeon Ji-Hyun since seeing her in "My Sassy Girl" and her performance in "You who came from the Stars" was amazing and outstanding. Assassination has been airing in Adelaide for almost three-weeks and finally had a chance to see the movie. Saw the movie by myself (there is always a first) and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and it went beyond my expectation. Jeon Ji-Hyun performance as Ahn Ok-yun was amazing, her performance was very intense and convincing. I fell in love with her again. And I think I found a new Korean actor crush; Ha Jung-Woo - very manly, intense and when he wore the black military French jacket, I was OMG...so handsome. Lee Jung-Jae, I like his performance probably the first half of the movie, but towards the end I liked him less (don't want to spoil for others who haven't seen the movie).

I am so glad that the movie is receiving good feedback in Seoul and hopefully around the whole as well. As stated above, it went beyond my expectation. I don't usually watch action/war-time genre movie because it can be boring and dragging as well as intense. Assassination was although intense, however, the producer was able to balance the story and add some humour to the movie which made it enjoyable. I am not sure whether other actress will be able to pull off Ahn Ok-yun role as Ji-Hyun; on one hand she was focus and strong but on the other hand she was innocent and frightful as well as goofy. I know we won't see her on screen for a while due to her upcoming pregnancy, so I am glad that she took this role.

  7. Jeon Ji Hyun is my favourite Korean actress of all time, since watching "MY SASSY GIRL" over a decade ago. At a young age I was memorize and awestruck by her acting ability but also her natural beauty. In term of her appearance, I love how she is confident but at the same time she can be sexy, cute, charming and mature. When comparing her to other A-list actresses (Song Hye Kyo and Kim Tae Hee - who kept the angelic, sweet, innocent image), Jeon Ji Hyun went beyond and experimented with her image and personality. Which makes her different and unique!!!. Like many would agree, she was pretty and cute when she was young but as grows older I find her more beautiful, appealing and attractive.
Like many articles mention, if you're gonna come back to film a drama, it must start with a bang and end with a bang. And she did that, YWCFTS was successful because she went that extra mile to conveyed and portrayed her character brilliantly. Before filming YWCFTS, I was slightly upset because she wasn't get the recognition she deserves, only because she's somewhat is reserved but her projects were only limited herself to movies and CF. I'm extremely glad that she is getting the recognition she deserves (after more than 15 years in the entertainment industry), because she has always been an A-class actress. My next hope, if she does ever decide to film a drama...I would love to see her in an ancient-period drama because I reckon it would test her ability; where we will maybe see more of a mature side of her (and maybe evil/villain character depending on the character's role).
JEON JI HYUN SARANG HAE! FIGHTING!!!

  11. Happy Lunar New Year Everyone!!! Wishing everyone a successful year ahead, plenty of prosperity, good health and happiness.
Also wishing Min-Woo a successful comeback, hope his 10th solo anniversary is successful and loved by everyone.
But also wishing Shinhwa 16th anniversary to be also successful as last year. Even though Andy will not be present for the concert. But Shinhwa will pull through again like last time when Andy was absent. Let's pray for Andy will come through strong, and remember he has SUPPORT and is LOVED by the MEMBERS and US FANS!!!
But on a different note, anyone here who has previously purchased tickets to watch SHINHWA SEOUL CONCERT! I know there have been difficulties purchasing tickets because of the tough competition and seats available. But I truly want to see Shinhwa in concert and because I have never purchased their tickets before and don't understand Korean at all. Is there an instruction or demo how to purchase the tickets. Just wanna say thanks in advance ^_^

  12. It has been a while since I last posted here.
Living in Australia, I received both my 10th Anniversary Shinhwa DVD Concert (mwave) and 15th Anniversary Shinhwa DVD Concert (dvdheaven) on Monday 23rd December. It was such a lovely yet unexpected early Christmas gift. Because I remember telling my co-worker I hope to get it by Christmas. Imagine my joy and excitement coming home and seeing it on my bed after 17 hours shift (yes...hell!sh long day). And I knew how I would be spending my Christmas 2-days break; snuggled up in my PJ and watching the DVDs (since families and friends were away for Christmas).
The DVD was everything I expected and more. I LOVED the songs selection for the 15th Anniversary Concert. Combination of old school, but also recent and popular tracks. From last year concert, I think members were easily tried and I could see the strain on them after some tracks. This year however, members were more active. I think they took in consideration as to how much they can handle, therefore this year was more of a balance.
After watching the DVDs...like most fans I believe. It has become one of my GOALS to see them live in concert. I was close enough to see them 2013, but due to some circumstances I was held back. It will be worth the money, spending a few grands travelling to see them because the efforts and everything they put towards the concert will be worthwhile. On another note, after watching the 15th Anniversary Concert, I wonder when will the Encore Concert will be released. Because this DVD was March performance which did not include THIS LOVE.
On a different note, as much as I love Shinhwa actively promoting. I hope they take care of their health because they ain't "getting any younger" They pretty much have their hands full and I don't see where they can rest. If we think about it. March is generally when they start making a comeback. Which means early January, they start preparing for album which may take around 2-3 months. Once they decided on a track, they will start actively promoting on music shows which will take another 4-5 weeks but at the same time appearance on talk shows. Once promotion is done, they generally hold concerts which will take another 4-6 months depending how many shows they decide on. But at the same time, whilst these are happening, they also must juggle with filming Shinhwa Broadcast. Once promoting is all completed for the album, they jump into individual project. And so the cycle repeats itself for another year. So OPPA take care of yourself, as selfish we are to see you promoting each year. Health comes first!!!

  13. I ordered my DVD from yesasia[.]com around NY and received it Tuesday (as it did say about 6-10 working days standard delivery for Australia). I finally watched the DVD today. And I'm left speechless and lost for words. It's simply Daebak!!!! The concert was simply amazing from their performance and stage interaction with fans. I had goosebumps right from the start. After finishing the whole DVD set, I'm making it an ultimate goal to "hopefully" see them this year or at least see them live once. It would be an amazing experience just to be a part of it. But also watching the concert and seeing them performing, it brings back good memories, but also reminded me why I love these 6 talented, adorable, handsome yet dorky men. Shinhwa simply Daebak and legend... Something about live's performance, creates something extra special. Enough of me blabbering.... Hope everyone will enjoy the DVD as much as I have...I can simply watch it over and over again!
