weirdnshort
so confused XDall the parts are getting me confused I don't play video games.. but i need it to be able to support CAD programs (such as AutoCAD or ProEngineering). I'm probably going to use it the most for surfing the net, and watching videos. , Do you recommend Intel or AMD ? Vista or XP (well most ppl i asked said Vista sucks right now) 1 Gig or 2 Gig ram (i'm thinking 2 gigs right now cuz my computer is so laggy) I'm thinking of buying one here: http://www.a-computers.ca/ and some of the specs I was confused about was the motherboard and videocards (at least that's what i think they are) Upgrade AM2 Sempron 3600+ To AM2 Athlon 64x2 3800+ Dual Core---------------------------------- $39 Upgrade AM2 Sempron 3600+ To AM2 Athlon 64x2 4200+ Dual Core---------------------------------- $55 Upgrade AM2 Sempron 3600+ To AM2 Athlon 64x2 4400+ Dual Core---------------------------------- $69 Upgrade AM2 Sempron 3600+ To AM2 Athlon 64x2 5200+ Dual Core---------------------------------- $119 Upgrade AM2 Sempron 3600+ To AM2 Athlon 64x2 6000+ Dual Core---------------------------------- $169 Upgrade Core 2 Duo E4400 (2.0Ghz) To E4500 (2.2Ghz) 2M 800FSB--------------------------------------- $30 Upgrade Core 2 Duo E4400 (2.0Ghz) To E6320 (1.86Ghz) 4M 1066FSB------------------------------------ $55 Upgrade Core 2 Duo E4400 (2.0Ghz) To E6420 (2.13Ghz) 4M 1066FSB------------------------------------ $79 Upgrade Core 2 Duo E6320 (1.86Ghz) To E6600 (2.4Ghz) 4M 1066FSB------------------------------------ $75 Add Radeon X550 512MB Hyper Memory PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card------------------- $59 Add Radeon X1300XT 256MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card---------------------------------- $99 Add Radeon X1300XT 512MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card---------------------------------- $129 Add nVidia GF 7300GS 256MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card---------------------------------- $69 Add nVidia GF 7300GT 256MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card---------------------------------- $75 Add nVidia GF 7600GS 256MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card---------------------------------- $119 Add nVidia GF 7600GS 512MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card---------------------------------- $139 Add nVidia GF 7600GT 256MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card---------------------------------- $129 Add nVidia GF 7600GT KO 256MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card----------------------------- $149 Add nVidia GF 8500GT 256MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card---------------------------------- $119 Add nVidia GF 8600GT 256MB PCI-E With DVI & TV Out Video Card---------------------------------- $149 Oh another stupid question.. um does dual layer dvd burner also burn single layer dvds? ? which one? my budget: as long as it's reasonable . lol my first computer was ~$3000 so this stuff is cheap XD

Yes ? which one? my budget: as long as it's reasonable . lol my first computer was ~$3000 so this stuff is cheap XD Recap- Gigabyte motherboard with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 with 2 GB of RAM running on Windows Vista, with a EVGA 8600GT 256MB card. To run all these efficiently (sp?) you'll also need a 500Watt power supply, I prefer Antec. It is true Vista at the moment has some issues, but all operating systems do. It took two service packs for Windows XP to become what it is today. Another side note is.. AMD is coming out with it's new 65nm processor later this year. And Intel is coming out with a new 45nm processor first quarter of next year. I wouldn't upgrade right now if I didn't have to. Price drops should hit big for Core 2's once those two chips come out. Sorry if that took your excitement away>
weirdnshort
whoa... thank you for telling me this! I'll wait.... ah.. maybe i should get the new processor? are you saying i should get the EVGA instead of the nVidia one?
Guest H4N
whoa... thank you for telling me this! I'll wait.... ah.. maybe i should get the new processor? are you saying i should get the EVGA instead of the nVidia one? Some information about video cards; There are two major graphic chipset producers (Other than Intel and their intergrated stuff -___-a). ATI (Which is now owned by AMD) and Nvidia. These two companies produce their GPU chips to companies, such as EVGA, Asus (Yes, this is also a motherboard maker), etc. In my experience with my: GeForce MX4000 from EVGA, GeForce 6200 from EVGA, friend's 7800GT and 8600GT from EVGA, customer reviews from various tech sites. EVGA has always gotten good if not greaet reviews for the cards they produce. My trust is with them when buying Nvidia cards.

Guest iamsars
dont get the E6750... get the E6700 its cheaper and is more overclockable... E6750 has higher fsb but lower multiplier
Guest DEEM
Alright.. so I'll take a shot at answering your questions. For processor..right now I'd definitely go with the Intel Core 2 Duo/Quads over the X2's.. So Intel. Operating system.. Vista is still relatively new and it still needs a lot more updates to be fully compatible with today's hardware and software, but eventually it'll be completed. It really depends on if you want to wait on Vista to becoming near-completion. You could XP now, but a few years down the road, you might regret not having Vista. As for RAM, 1 Gig is plenty if you're going to get XP, but if you're going with Vista, definitely considering 2 gigs, I've heard people saying that 1GB is not as fast as they hope their comp could be while running vista. If the base model processor you're starting with is the 3600+ sempron... DEFINITELY upgrade it. It's so slow that you'd think that your computer was 10 years old. If you can afford it, I strongly recommend a Core 2 Duo. Video card wise, I'd go with a 8500GT... but you don't really seem to need a strong graphics card. And all of them have DVI and TV-OUT so I wouldn't worry too much.Yes dual layer burners will burn regular single layer DVDS.Some information about video cards; There are two major graphic chipset producers (Other than Intel and their intergrated stuff -___-a). I hear EVGA is probably the best manufacturer of nVidia cards.
