They were in a kbs tv novel drama called You Are a Star where they were lovers that took forever to finally get together! this is so great! Looks like he is going to love her ONCE again! I am so excited now. Its a defintley a great cast. Song Il Gook, Kim Seung Soo and Han Hye Jin! yay. I am so going to watch it! hehe too bad Seung Soo and Il Gook are rivals

It seems that they focused on making elaborate costumes rather than depicting things the way they were at the period.

For example, women's dresses look very much like typical Shilla to Koryo period costumes.

Since their focus is not to be too true to history (which we hardly know about anyway due to lack of records) I guess it's acceptable...

like some people already pointed out, the costume does seem elaborate. The women look alright, but for the guys it seems too much. haha. dunno. maybe it will look much better when there are actually some movement/action. Still pictures do tend to make things look exaggerate.

The armours look so much like the ones from Shindon.

They are like more than 1300 years apart from each other and they look similar...

Shindon armour.

Yeongaesomun definitely seems to have costumes that are more true to history than this drama.

Yeongaesomun armours.

Jumong armours. (compare with Shindon and Yeongaesomun armours above and keep in mind Jumong is set like 13 centuries before Shindon and about 7 centuries before Yeongaesomun.)

Yeah, I can't quite shake the feeling that they went a bit too far with costumes.

Another thing I don't understand is, if they decided to go fantasy with the costumes, I wonder why they didn't go with the mythical storyline, where Jumong is the grandson of the god of heaven and god of water.

In the myth, Jumong's father, Haemosu, appears as the son of heaven and mother, Yuhwa, is a daughter of water.

In this drama, Haemosu is just a leader of the wandering remnants of ancient Chosun and Yuhwa is a daughter of Habaek tribe.

If they just dropped the pretense and made this as a partial myth and partial history, than those costumes might have been a bit more acceptable.

I'm already having a lot of worries about this drama...

Seems like it was planned as a defense against China's Northeast Asian Project, but as it appears now, this drama might actually 'help' Northeast Asian Project.

I do feel for the producers, or for the Koreans in general, for that matter.

They hardly have any record left of their own past. No building or book survives from these periods at all, and they have just a few relics and most of the ancient Korean territory is now a part of China.

It must be really difficult for them to make a drama like this due to the lack of research material.

We really had no reason to miss 주몽 (King Jumong), MBC's great looking Historical Drama about Goguryeo founder King Jumong. After all, with a cast like that (Song Il-Guk, Han Hye-Jin, Oh Yeon-Soo, Kim Young-Cheol, Hur Joon-Ho), a writer like that (Choi Wan-Gyu) and the usual incredible work of MBC's Art Direction team, along with one of the most interesting outlines of recent memory, the show looked like a winner right from the beginning. Well, now you can add another big reason to watch the show, when it will start airing on May 8: Jeon Gwang-Ryeol has also been cast in the Drama, as Jumong's father (and here's the news, as we reported about a month ago he'd be part of the cast, but I didn't know what his role would be). Jeon made a (big) name for himself with the 2000 classic 허준 (Hur Joon), another Historical Drama written by master Choi Wan-Gyu, and this continues the working relationship between Jeon and Choi, as he also starred in 종합병원 (General Hospital) and 그들의 포옹(Their Embrace). Jeon will end up in a 삼각관계 (love triangle) with Hur Joon-Ho and Oh Yeon-Soo, who's playing Song Il-Guk's mother despite the non-existent age difference. It's less than a month folks, then the big war of Historical Dramas finally begins. I can't wait, and this time I'm not joking.

^ raised some interesting points.

kinda agree with you on the costumes. it seems a little exaggerated for a period then. i mean it's alright if the costumes look clean but i guess this might be pushing it.

maybe the costumes are for the photo-op. or maybe not...

Historical dramas.. they're usually either a hit or miss.

^ lol true.

interesting points given there donilpark! I never take notice much about facts on historical dramas but the info you just gave made me think twice since they really gave emphasis much on the costumes
