6 Popular Korean Actors Who Also Started Their Own Talent Agencies

Who knew these stars were behind these popular companies?

The trend of South Korean stars starting their own agencies is not new. Some of the most popular entertainment agencies today were started by early celebrities. Park Jin Young was a singer before becoming the founder of JYP Entertainment. YG Entertainment’s founder Yang Hyun Suk was also an idol, a part of the iconic first-generation boy group Seo Taiji and Boys. K-Pop singers continue to carry on this legacy even today, with artists like Hyolyn, B.I., and PSY being only a few of the examples.

Korean actors, too, are not behind in this venture. Over the last few years, quite a few actors have set up their own companies, which has allowed them more creative freedom and a way to channel their entrepreneurial intelligence.

  1. So Ji Sub

O5qBoWyuPj8pTwkl4Uei83bO9BUBB7STBa9C2rjDeXRYoM-5rsGFcQc4RWPoMX_hA0WAqZKDG67mvZf66x8TcBIqfknlhw4ugV1NlMBwN174YrA=w32-fSoften=1,100,0-rp-e365

In 2011, So Ji Sub set up a one-man agency called 51K. At that time, the actor made it clear that the agency was solely to manage his own activities, and he had no thoughts of taking in younger actors. But over the years, the agency grew larger. Currently, it manages talents like VIXX’s N, Kim Doh Yon, Lee Seung Woo, Shin Ju Seop¸and Ok Taecyon.

There are some shows that have a timeless appeal, a high recall value to be visited time and time again. So here’s a look at 10 K dramas which turn 10 years old this year!

Master’s Sun

Seo-In-Guk-Gong-Hyo-Jin-So-Ji-Sub-Kim-Yo

Tae Gong Shil (Gong Hyo Jin) barely gets to sleep at night thanks to her many uncanny encounters with ghosts. Gong Shil is constantly visited by spirits of the dead who want her to do things for them. But the only person who seems to be her armor is the rich owner of a mega departmental store, Joo Joong Won (So Ji Sub). Gong Shil discovers that every time she is near him, she does not see the dead. The two have a rocky start, especially with Joong Won being weary of the clingy Gong Shil, but despite the absurdity of their situation, they somehow end up falling in love with each other.

When you have two stellar stars such as Gong Hyo Jin and So Ji Sub, you can expect some scorching chemistry. Ji Sub as Joo Joong Won is uproarious, especially when it comes to his initial reservations towards the strange Gong Shil. But when he falls in love, he is a man besotted with eyes only for the woman he loves. And Gong Hyo Jin gives another master stroke of her acting prowess. Some of the stories in the show are so heart-wrenching, it is bound to make you shed a tear or two.

*** I've watched his latest movie, “Confession”. This movie is more than a simple crime film. The lesson that the story conveys here is that “money can't buy everything, after all.” There is So Ji-sub as Yoo who proves to be really versatile. He needs to play several personalities all in a very short space of time. He’s a high-powered businessman who isn’t used to losing. I find the movie good, only the ending leaves one a little bit unsatisfied.   :twerk2:

*** Today, many people are fluent in multiple languages. Most people speak English to some degree, but even native English speakers often decide to learn a second or third language. Usually, the second language is German, Italian, or French, but recently more and more young people prefer the languages of the Asian region. The most popular are Korean and Japanese.   :ohboy2:
