Drama viewership ratings for the week of Nov. 12-18, 2018

dramaratings_2.jpg

It’s about time to get ready for a whole new round of shows. We got a few of those shows this week, with plenty more coming soon. Of course, that means that the shows we’ve been following (or avoiding like the plague) have to come to an end.

Spy drama My Secret Terrius ended its run on Thursday with 10.5 percent, while medical drama Heart Surgeons ended with 8.4 percent. These two shows performed well in this time slot, though the former brought in more viewers. The power of So Ji-sub, perhaps?

Wednesday, Nov. 14
Happy to Die 5 KBS 2.5%
Happy to Die 6 KBS 3.0%
My Secret Terrius 29 MBC 8.7%
My Secret Terrius 30 MBC 10.1%
Heart Surgeons 29 SBS 5.8%
Heart Surgeons 30 SBS 7.3%
Fluttering Alert 5 MBN 1.9%
God’s Quiz 5 1 OCN 1.9%
Hundred Million Stars From the Sky 13 tvN 2.3%
Thursday, Nov. 15

10 Older Romance K-Dramas That You Need To See

It feels like just yesterday I was watching these K-dramas as a kid, which are now referred to as “older K-dramas.”

It’s easy to get excited and sucked into the dramatic world of K-dramas these days, but there are lots of K-dramas from way back when that can be thoroughly enjoyed today. Here’s a look at 10 of those older K-dramas that you should definitely give a watch!

Will It Snow for Christmas?

will-it-snow-for-christmas.jpg

Old school heartthrob Go Soo stars as Kang Jin in this suspenseful melodrama alongside Han Ye Seul as Ji Wan. The two fall in love and are tragically torn apart. Years later, the two meet by chance again, but Ji Wan is engaged to someone else, played by Song Jong Ho.

Melodramas were pretty dramatic back in the day, and this one is no different. It’s suspenseful and will keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering what the fate of the two main leads will be. You’ll also appreciate seeing a very young cast of Kim Soo Hyun, Nam Ji Hyun, Do Ji Han, and Song Joong Ki! Talk about a killer cast, right?

Waiting patiently to hear when Ko Soo will be in a new drama again! Miss him already! Wasn’t really feeling Heart Surgeons’ storyline even though it was an awesome drama in acting wise!

Hi ymiss I love the drama. Overall, for me, the plot of this medical drama is considered well-structured and logically developed. The most exciting EP was the last episode, which was in connection with the first episode where supposedly Tae-soo was found taking the heart for the presidential election candidate away from the hospital. Although, there was a twist - Like many other medical dramas, this drama also explored on the moral values of being a good doctor. A good doctor will not discriminate patients according to their social economic status and should be given the same medical treatment and care. There was no love story in the drama, though. Since the title is "Heart Surgeons" - the story centered on the heart. Watching this drama got my heart racing.  :P

*** I'm happy to know that GS has been confirmed as one of the cast members for tvN’s new drama “Money Game!” “Money Game” has a setting in which the major Korean banks are failing and on the verge of bankruptcy. A group of employees at the Financial Services Commission try to prevent the country from falling into a second “IMF crisis.” Go Soo will play the role of Chae Yi Heon, an economic official who hides the fact that he’s from a wealthy family in order to be acknowledged for his true skills. He works as a section chief at the Economic Policy Bureau in the Financial Services Commission, and his father is the most famous economist in South Korea. “Money Game” will begin filming late of this year (2019) and is slated to premiere sometime in the first half of next year (2020). :P

Go Soo, Lee Seung Min & Shim Eun Kyung Take On Financial Crisis Themed Drama “Money Game”

Money-Game-Cast.jpg

Going full force with the roster of drama streamlined for 2020, tvN taps powerhouse cast for its new series.

Headlined by top-tier actors Go Soo, Lee Seung Min and Shim Eun Kyung, Money Game (working title) threads on the premise of how the fictional Republic of Korea faces financial collapse caused by a bank. The bank with a government stake raises anxiety with its bankruptcy crisis that will directly affect the government.

Picturing a premise of a second IMF predicament, Money Game will be directed by Kim Sang Ho. His recent works include Spring Turns To Spring, Man To Man and Hwajung. Interestingly, the portfolio boasts different genres all executed superbly.

Suiting up as the main leads, Go Soo, Lee Seung Min and Shim Eun Kyung – who are lauded as representative actors of their respective generations, heighten expectations to the already interesting plot.

Go Soo

Go Soo as Cha Yi Heon

Portraying the role of Cha Yi Heon, Go Soo is an economic bureaucrat who does not want to be on spotlight, but quietly fulfills his duties earnestly. He is the son of the top economist of the country and heads the Economic Policy Bureau of the Financial Services Commission.

Coming from his remarkable character in SBS’ Heart Surgeons, the actor who always deliver his roles seamlessly take on another challenge in the outwitting world of money business. His acting portfolio includes highly-praised dramas and films including The Fortress, Flower in Prison, Love 911 and Empire of Gold.

tvN’s Money Game production team expressed confident to the collaboration of Go, Lee and Shim. The series is expected to begin filming in the last quarter of 2019.

*** The first still cuts of Go Soo in "Money Game" have been released. The drama is about a financial scandal that threatens to cripple the economy. Go Soo plays the son of the most well-renowned economist in Korea. He hides his identity and steadily works as an economics bureau worker in order to be recognized for his own talents. This sounds really good. Go Soo is great in stuff like this. tvN’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama "Money Game" will begin airing in January next year (2020.)  GS is coming back to dramaland! :P

Premiere Watch: Money Game

premwatch_moneygame1.jpg

Time slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Finance
Episode count: 16 episodes

Numbers don’t define a person’s worth, but numbers still have a huge impact on a person’s life and can seem to create very real limits. The very structure of society seems to be proof of this contradiction. How else do you explain a society where a person can work backbreaking hours everyday, yet still not have enough to afford a home? The three protagonists of the show, played by Go Soo,

Shim Eun-kyung, and Lee Sung-min, are well aware of this contradiction and have hopes for a better world. But how to bring about a more just society is a matter of debate. Having faced the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis (which was called the IMF Crisis in Korea), Lee Sung-min believes true structural change can only happen by breaking the system. When a bank that the government holds a large stake in seems to be close to bankruptcy, Lee sees an opportunity where others see crisis. Go Soo is a talented economics mind and bureaucrat, and unlike Lee, he sees disaster in the bank’s possible collapse. While he works to forestall an event that could upend the nation, he may have an ally in Shim Eun-kyung. Though she’s from a humble background, she’s willing to bet a safe job in order to battle against Wall Street. The stakes are high and the fate of an entire nation hangs in the balance.
