5 Non Toxic K-Drama Male Leads That Could Be Your Ideal Type

The K-Drama world has given us quite a few prototypes when it comes to male leads in love stories that have been reworked, transformed and recreated a number of times. While some are truly precious and loveable, others, not so much. There's no dearth of K-Drama male leads who might seem dreamy on the surface but are walking red flags when it comes to relationships.

Here are 5 non-toxic male leads that stole our hearts with their healthy approach towards their significant others!

"The King: Eternal Monarch" - Lee MinHo as Emperor Lee Gon

Not only is Lee Gon a feminist through and through but he is also one of the most understanding, nurturing, kind, and respectful K-Drama men out there. The fact that he holds his own ground (in this case, his empire) and fulfills his duties while Jeong TaeEul (Kim GoEun) does the same in a whole other dimension but they're still able to maintain a healthy relationship nonetheless is truly heartening. After all, they're the King and Queen for a reason!

The targets of Jun Jae's scam are rich people and businessmen who have a lot of money. In his deception, Joon Jae uses various disguises from lawyers to prosecutors.

Through his magical skills, Jun Jae manages to trick his target into giving him some money, which he then uses to escape overseas.

Overseas, Jun Jae and his two friends live in a beach resort with a wide view of the blue sea.

Once there was a storm on the sea and a rather large wave rose. At the same time, the mermaid was accidentally swept away by the current and got stuck right at the resort where Jun Jae was staying.

After meeting Jun Jae who saved her, the mermaid now always follows Jun Jae wherever he goes until Jun Jae names him Sim Chung (Jung Ji Hyun). When Jun Jae returns to Seoul, Sim Chung decides to follow him across the ocean to Seoul and reunite with Jun Jae.

As he continues to follow Jun Jae, he finally decides to let Sim Chung stay at his house. The time they spent together initially made Jun Jae uncomfortable with Shim Chung stalking him, but gradually Jun Jae fell in love with Sim Chang.

While with Jun Jae, Sim Chang reminisces about his past and feels like he's known Jun Jae for a long time.

When Sim Chang was a child, in 1958, he was accidentally caught and locked up in a hotel.

At that time, he met Dam Ryong, who had a face like Jun Jae, the young governor of that time. Sim Chung, whose real name is Se Hwa, meets Dam Ryong creates a bond after Dam Ryong releases Se Hwa into the sea.

The connection between Se Hwa and Dam Ryong in the past is still intertwined today, like Sim Jung and Joon Jae.

As they begin to realize the connection and feel the same love, bad things from the past begin to threaten their lives.

Top 10 best Korean dramas of all time as voted by international viewers

Does your favorite K-drama make it into the top?

Every year, Korea produces many well-loved TV series covering all kinds of topics and genres. Over the years, there have been numerous dramas that left a strong impression on global viewers. Recently, the website Ranker held a poll for the Top 10 best Korean dramas of all time. Let’s find out if your favorite drama made the cut.

Top 10: Boys Over Flowers (Lee Min Ho, Goo Hye Sun)

Boys Over Flowers is an idol drama adapted from a popular Japanese manga, centering 4 handsome rich boys and a poor girl. This is one of the most iconic K-dramas that brought Lee Min Ho from a rookie to a top famous actor. Boys Over Flowers took Asia by storm when it was released in 2009. Up to now, it has been 13 years, but the drama is still a fan favorite, proving that Boys Over Flowers is forever one of the symbols of the Hallyu wave.

Top 9: The Heirs (Lee Min Ho, Park Shin Hye)

Another drama led by Lee Min Ho with a rich guy – poor girl trope. Set in a highschool filled with wealthy students, The Heirs portrays the lives and romance of the young heirs and heiresses in Korea. One of the most famous lines from The Heirs is “One who wants to wear the crown, bears the crown”. It comes as no surprise that The Heirs entered this ranking because the drama’s popularity and influence when it came out was massive.

5 K-dramas for genre newbies to watch this Valentine’s Day

In 5 To Watch, writers from The A.V. Club look at the latest streaming TV arrivals, each making the case for a favored episode. Alternately, they can offer up recommendations inspired by a theme. In this installment: In honor of “Love Week,” we’re rounding up some of our favorite K-dramas.

When Squid Game smashed Netflix records last year, the general response in the West one was of surprise—but South Korea has been producing some of the most popular TV shows in the world for decades. Ahead of Valentine’s Day, we’re digging into the country’s most heavily exported genre: K-dramas.

With hundreds of K-drama titles available—most of which consist of roughly 16 hour-plus episodes—it can be difficult to determine where to start or even decide if you want to make such a lengthy viewing commitment. The A.V. Club is here to make things easier by narrowing down the choices, so you can spend this February 14 cuddled up with a box of discounted chocolates and some characters with way more exciting love lives.

The Heirs a.k.a. The Inheritors (available on Netflix)

For K-drama novices, The Heirs is a crash course. The series introduces many tropes that are pretty ubiquitous throughout the genre, including how the story centers around a wealthy boy named Kim Tan (Lee Min-Ho) and a poor girl named Cha Eun-Sang (Park Shin-Hye). After a chance meeting and a subsequent series of outlandish adventures in California, Eun-Sang and Tan reunite at school in South Korea. Unlike the wackiness of their time in the States, the pair must face a sobering reality: Tan is the heir to a Korean family conglomerate (known as a chaebol) and Eun-Sang’s mom is the Kim family’s maid. With a class disparity like that, there’s no way a relationship between Tan and Eun-Sang could work—especially not within the rigid confines of the K-drama universe.

13 years of Boys Over Flowers: When Lee Min Ho confessed he couldn’t watch show as it makes him cringe

MOCHiPOP by MOCHiPOP  February 11, 2022

LeeMIn12-2-1140x570.jpg

Thirteen years ago, a disgruntled and curly haired Lee Min Ho turned up on television screens, with a big fur coat. He had three friends trailing nervously behind him, accompanied with a blaring OST enough to tell the audience—this is the bad guy, but you’re still going to root for him.

This show was Boys Over Flowers, the high school Korean drama that spurred the Hallyu wave, making Min Ho an international sensation, something he absolutely despised, as he admitted years later. Boys Over Flowers starred Lee Min Ho as the rough ‘bad boy’ Junpyo, who falls in love with the manic pixie Gum Jan Di, played by Koo Hye-Sun. Junpyo, an heir to an empire that he doesn’t want, has three cohorts, Ji-Hoo, (Kim Hyun-Joong)So Ji-Yeong (Kim Bum) and Song Woo (Kim Joon).

These show hosts and reporters really spilled the FACT that LMH IS SO LOVED BY MANY!

I love this statement the most: "There exist certain prejudices that if you look good, your acting skills maybe weak. But he has visual + acting skills which makes men very envious."

@nina_mitrokhina thanks for sharing this. Since you also mentioned about the one he sent to Son Ye Jin some years back, I wonder if he was invited to her wedding next month. 2-of his on-screen partners are already married while the other one is soon-to-be.  :twerk2:

@willenette , Yes, there are a lot of discussions on the net now that Lee Min Ho's best partners are already married or are about to. The audience hints that it is time for him to determine his fate too. But it's a delicate matter and Lee Min Ho guards his privacy properly. He has a lot of work ahead of him. And I am very happy for his female partners and wish them great personal happiness.

Why are Lee Min Ho, Ji Chang Wook, and Seo In Guk called "Golden 1987"?

February 13, 2022

If you look at the profile of a Korean star actor, you will find an interesting phenomenon. For example, take the following five people.

Lee Min Ho, Ji Chang Wook, Seo In Guk, Jang Keun Suk, Jung Il Woo.

Both are popular stars who brightly color Korean dramas.

Of course, there are many leading works that have colored the lead role in the drama.

They have a lot in common.

What's this?

They were all born in the same year.

haiyu0213.jpg?v=1644467032

The face of the star born in 1987 is amazing

Role as lead role

The five mentioned above were born in 1987 and will turn 35 this year.

It was a time when he was a greasy actor and he is expected to play an active role in the future.

However, what was 1987, when five people were born, like for South Korea?

This is an amazing year.

This is the year when the struggle for democratization, which has a special significance in the recent history of Korea, was crowned with success.

Prior to that, South Korea had a military government. Freedom of speech was limited and many of the institutions of society were restricted by the military junta.

Opponents demonstrated every day in search of democratization, and Korean society in 1987 became unsettled. The Seoul Olympics were scheduled for next year, but South Korea was so confused that it would have been impossible to host them.

However, the enthusiasm of the people eventually led to democratization, and the military government came to an end.

After that, South Korea re-emerged as a democracy, and especially the popular culture achieved significant development and showed the momentum to dominate the world as an "entertainment power".

The starting point was 1987, and many stars born in that year have greatly stepped up Korean dramas.

In this sense, stars born in 1987 such as Lee Min Ho, Ji Chang Wook, Seo In Guk, Jang Geun Suk, and Jung Il Woo can be called "children of democratization."

I hope they continue to play an active role in the future. We can say that the role of the main character in the drama is also very big.

A successful day!  @CallieP and I were able to successful watch a show on AppleTV+ together!  Next step is how International viewers can join in.  If anyone in the US is an Android user and wants to try, let me know.   I also found a copy of Harper's Bazaar at the bookstore! Yahoo!  I wasn't sure I had the right issue;  I expected the table of contents would specifically mention the word  Pachinko, but it does not.
