“Step inside some of the best supporting performances of the year”

Pachinko: Lee Minho

Didn't we wish then for LMH to be recognized with awards when he took on this project with AppleTV?

:coolshades::coolshades:

@syntyche  actually, not only for this project but, all of his works I wish for him to be recognized with awards. Awards can be incredibly beneficial for actors. Even a nomination can be a career boost. Oscars are probably the most high-profile of the award ceremonies, but winning Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Emmys, Tonys, etc. all put you on or solidify your place on the map in terms of recognition within your industry.   :7555_attack:

@syntycheOMG, the Emmy's magazine recognized LMH.  Did it really state that LMH is one of the best supporting performances for 2022???  He headlines Pachinko and considered lead but in terms of screen time, it is quite minimal except for episode 7.  Is the Emmy's considering him as a favorite for supporting actor then?  That is very interesting.  Do you know more about this, syntyche or @willette

How can we order a copy of this Emmy Magazine?

AppleTV is campaigning LMH, YYJ and KMH as supporting actors for Emmys. I read somewhere it's AppleTV who would decide which actors for which awards to campaign/promote for Emmys. Perhaps they thought these actors have better chance of getting nomination in supporting roles instead of lead roles.

Mother's Day: Lee Min Ho's words in tribute to his mom

spacer.png

As one of the most popular Korean actors internationally, Lee Min Ho expressed love and gratitude to his mother on several occasions.

Lee Min Ho , an international star from South Korea , has shown love to his mother several times. As the lead actor of “ Pachinko ”, He mentioned her in one of the Apple TV + interviews and she was also the heroine he chose for the BOSS ambassador campaign.

On the occasion of Mother's Day, fans of the “Boys over flowers ” actor revived the messages of tribute that Lee Min Ho has given to his mother.

When he was named the face of Hugo Boss, the “The Heirs” actor chose his mother as his role model.

"Who do you think is a real 'Boss' (chief or leader)?" Was the question launched in the campaign.

“For me, she is my mother. Through hard times and happy times, she remains a strong person no matter what. And that is the kind of leader I would like to learn from and be the same one day,” Lee Min Ho mentioned.

In the “Pachinko” series and its respective original novel, the character of Sunja is a symbol of strength. She is someone from a previous generation who made sacrifices and was the foundation for those who would come after her.

As part of the cast, Lee Min Ho mentioned his mom as the 'Sunja' of his family.

"My mom is so strong and full of love, I get a lump in my throat just thinking about her," he declared in the video produced by Apple TV +.

Lee Min Ho 's mother was key in the beginning of his television career. A 10Asia profile from 2010 highlights her words: “Years ago, when I was having a hard time and constantly getting rejected at auditions, I was able to keep working hard and not fall into despair thanks to my mom. She taught me to keep trying.”

'Pachinko' Season 1 Spoiler Free Review - A Riveting Tale of Four Generations That'll Leave You Speechless

...

Lee Min Ho gives what can I only describe as his best acting performance to date. I knew he had it in him. His character is so interesting and you can clearly tell he's put a lot of effort to transform into Han Su. While this might be a slight spoiler, I think it's important to say to Lee Min Ho fans. If you expect to see him a lot in the series, you'll be disappointed, while he is a focal character in the story, I felt he was more of a supporting character in this season rather than one of the main characters. I don't know how much this will change in the future but I've seen people express their disappointment over this. This is my favorite Lee Min Ho drama in recent memory too. I think it will be very difficult for him to top this off. I want to see him play more roles like this, roles where he isn't the prince in shining armor. I want him to play an even worse character in an upcoming project. I think it will be very interesting to see how he takes on such a character.

so cool!Compared with Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo's new drama, these two films that were actually shot in space are more exciting

Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin collaborate in new drama, the role of doctor and astronaut is expected to be set

Looking up at the stars and exploring the deep distance has always been a human dream.

Therefore, space-themed film and television works are deeply loved by audiences.

In 2022, there will be 1 space-themed works that are about to start shooting and 2 to be broadcast.

Among them, the two works to be filmed and to be broadcast have similar plot settings. But from the perspective of the shooting location, the real shooting in space is even more exciting.

1. Lee Min Ho + Gong Hyo Jin: A Space Love Story.

Recently, Korean media reported that Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin will collaborate in the new drama "Ask the Stars".

As soon as the news came out, netizens were full of expectations for two reasons:

One is because of the male and female protagonists.

"Queen of Korean drama ratings" Gong Hyo-jin is back in TV drama after 3 years.

And what kind of sparks she and Lee Min Ho will create is very exciting.

The setting of this play is the story of a male obstetrician and a female astronaut.

Kong Yong, an obstetrician and gynecologist played by Lee Min Ho, has a strong sense of mission. As a space tourist, after going to the space station, he meets the Korean-American astronaut Eve Kim, played by Gong Hyo-jin, after a fateful encounter with a romantic love story.

Let's just say, the character setting is very interesting.

As for the script, it is the romance writer Xu Shuxiang, whose works "PASTA" and "Incarnation of Jealousy" have both achieved good reputation.

The second is because of the big IP of space themes.

It is reported that the production of the play has been prepared for 5 years. It is the first attempt of the country H, and it is a TV series shot with the space station as the background.

In order to shoot well, the crew is expected to invest more than 50 billion won to build a studio for the space station. It will be broadcast simultaneously on domestic channels and global OTT in 2023, and is expected to start shooting from April this year.

Therefore, the show has not yet started filming and broadcast, which has attracted the expectations of countless netizens.

However, the character setting of "Ask the Stars" is exactly the same as the movie "Challenge", which is expected to be broadcast in 2022.

@nina_mitrokhina  thanks for sharing this. Although a novel and a serial drama are two different mediums of storytelling, Apple TV+’s approach to "Pachinko" is relatively faithful to the original text.  The story brought to life in the gorgeous cinematography (one of the other strengths of “Pachinko”) and excellent acting, and also the show tries to fit too much into the eight one-hour episodes. I love it because there's the color-coded subtitles where blue indicates dialogue in Japanese, while yellow notes dialogue in Korean. This color treatment is also reflected in the opening credits: the title flashes in three different languages before landing on “Pachinko” in English that are explored in the show.   :kaching1:   This is very good.

@willenette, Thanks for reading the entire review. I also found it interesting and many points are well noticed. The director and acting are beyond praise. Titles "Pachinko" unexpected and very expressive - and the graphics and music are great!I Love You Reaction GIF

Thanks for the link, I was  looking through it and I realized that the Pachinko part is just an insert (promotional advertisement for the various Apple TV series touting great performances from the actors.)  It was not the cover page of the magazine.  I thought from the earlier posting from twitter, that  it was the cover page and I thought there might be an article about Pachinko.   Well hopefully, in the future they might have Pachinko on the cover page.

Lee Min Ho’s 16th Debut Anniversary: Dissecting the Hallyu Heartthrob’s best lead roles over the years

On this joyous occasion, let’s take a look at some of Lee Min Ho’s iconic roles. Read ahead to know more.

by Anoushka Mathew   |  Published on May 10, 2022

lmh_main_15.png?width=752&format=webp&t=

Lee Min Ho gained widespread fame worldwide with his role as Gu Jun Pyo in ‘Boys Over Flowers’ which also earned him the Best New Actor award at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards. His notable lead roles in television series include ‘Personal Taste’, ‘City Hunter’, ‘The Heirs’, ‘The Legend of the Blue Sea’. Known for his sweet smile and handsome looks, let’s take a look at some of his best roles over the years:-

Boys Over Flowers

Arguably one of his most known roles, Lee Min Ho transformed into Gu Jun Pyo, the hot-headed leader of the F4 and heir to the Shinhwa Group, one of the biggest companies in South Korea. Based on a Japanese manga series, Lee Min Ho was the poster boy for an angsty rich teenager that never truly experienced love and the fans loved him as Gu Jun Pyo. From dedication to the person he loves to his great comedic timing, Lee Min Ho has gained recognition for this role and rightly so!

Personal Taste

Released in 2010, Lee Min Ho played the role of Jeon Ji Ho, an architect who is earnestly trying to keep his small firm afloat in a fair manner. He moves into Sanggojae to study it for his next project. Neat and organized, he is unable to stand Kae In's (Son Ye Jin) living habits, and tries to change her into a better version of herself after she agrees to it. Lee Min Ho is a confident and a typical K-Drama male lead i.e a soft soul but pretends to not care in the beginning.

The Heirs

After ‘Boys Over Flowers’, Lee Min Ho gained a lot more recognition playing the role of Kim Tan, who is hot-headed and at times immature, he is warm-hearted and honest. Although he is engaged to Yoo Rachel (Kim Ji Won), he is attracted to Cha Eun Sang (Park Shin Hye) at first sight and falls in love with her despite her poor background. Similar to the other school drama, Lee Min Ho’s cute childish banters and brooding mannerism gained an immense number of fans.

Legend of the Blue Sea

A 2016 drama, Lee Min Ho played two roles- Kim Dae Ryeong, the town head and son of a magistrate in the Joseon era who falls in love with a mermaid as a child, and names her Se Hwa (Jun Ji Hyun) after his late sister and Heo Joon Jae, Kim Dae Ryeong’s future self, who is a con-artist who uses wits and looks to conduct scams on people of the privileged class of the society. He meets Shim Cheong (Jun Ji Hyun), a mermaid and ultimately falls in love with her, thus being able to read her thoughts. Here, Lee Min Ho had a more light-hearted role, with the best look of jealousy and just comedy in general. Serious storyline aside, Lee Min Ho was amazing in this drama.

The King: Eternal Monarch

Lee Min Ho played the role of Lee Gon, the third king of the Kingdom of Corea. He is a mathematician and a rower. He is a compulsive and reticent person. He is sensitive when touched by others and does not easily let go of his skepticism towards someone. This was his most different role as a lead as he has a more mature and jaded personality and had the aura of a king.

Pachinko

Arguably, one of his best roles till date, Lee Min Ho played the role of Goh Han Su, Zainichi Korean man (Ethnically Korean with permanent residency in Japan) who lives in Osaka, Japan. Introduced as a merchant and fish broker who regularly visits Busan, South Korea. This was the first time he had a role that resembled that of an antagonist. Selfish and mean, Goh Han Su always sought after things that gave him the desired results. While he had a deep and tragic history, it always hardened him as a person. Lee Min Ho’s acting skills truly come out in this series.

With new dramas already lined up for the coming up, let's hope to see Lee Min Ho for another 16 more years in the industry!

Dear Lee Min Ho: A fan from the US writes about being impressed by the ‘Legend of the Blue Sea’ star

A fan from the United States pens a letter to actor Lee Min Ho.

by Pinkvilla Desk   |  Published on May 10, 2022

Following his official debut as an actor in 2003, Lee Min Ho has added multiple iconic roles to his roster, across K-Dramas like ‘Boys Over Flowers’ and ‘The Heirs’. Lee Min Ho’s comeback series, ‘The King: Eternal Monarch’ (2020), set a record for SBS’ highest 2020 Friday-Saturday drama premiere ratings. Most recently, Lee Min Ho starred in Apple TV’s series ‘Pachinko’, based on the novel of the same name.

Today's heartwarming letter has been penned by Leena Dang from the United States to Lee Min Ho. Read their letter below.

Hello,

My name is Leena Dang.

I live in the United States.

My mother tongue is English. I do not speak or understand Korean.

Lee Min Ho is by far one of the best young actors I have ever watched.

I have been so impressed with his presence, style, smile, tears, emotions, and genuine nature on screen.

I have seen Boys Over Flowers, Personal Taste, Legend of the Blue Sea, City Hunter, Heirs, and King: Eternal Monarch. I have loved each and every one of these TV serials.

Lee Min Ho is the driver for why I have been watching K-dramas over American dramas.

I can not wait to watch Pachinko. Lee Min Ho has everything it takes to be an international super star.

I want to wish him much success and happiness in the future.

Best,

Leena
