‘개취’이어 ‘검프’도 연장설?…수목극 나란히 20부작 될까?

[경제투데이] SBS수목드라마 ‘검사 프린세스’에 대한 시청자들의 연장 요청이 쇄도하고 있다.

지난 6일 방송된 12회를 기해 인우(박시후)의 정체가 드러날 위기에 놓이자 시청자들은 “남은 4회 방송만으로 인우에 대한 이야기가 가능하겠나?”라고 의구심을 드러내며 “인우에 대한 혜리(김소연)의 마음도 드러났고, 인우의 정체도 밝혀지게 됐는데 4회 연장하면 좀 더 재미있게 드라마를 볼 수 있을 것 같다”고 바람을 밝혔다.

시청자들의 연장 요청에 대해 ‘검사 프린세스’ 제작진은 “남은 방송분이 흥미진진하니 관심과 애정을 갖고 지켜봐 달라”고 당부할 뿐 말을 아끼고 있다.

‘검사 프린세스’에 대한 시청자들의 연장 요청이 이어지고 있는 가운데, 동시간대 경쟁작 MBC ‘개인의 취향’은 연장 방송과 관련한 진행이 좀 더 앞서 있다. MBC 측은 ‘개인의 취향’ 인기에 “4회 연장을 논의중”이라고 밝힌 바 있다.

‘개인의 취향’이 4회 연장이 확정되고, ‘검사 프린세스’에 대한 연장 논의가 시작되면 수목극은 나란히 20부작이 될 가능성이 높아진다. 애초 ‘개인의 취향’과 ‘검사 프린세스’는 16부작, ‘신데렐라 언니’는 20부작으로 기획된 작품.

정작 수목극 정상을 달리고 있는 ‘신데렐라 언니’는 방송 분량이 8회나 남아 있어서 인지 는 연장에 관련된 이야기는 나오지 않고 있다. 동시간대 경쟁작에 비해 방송 분량이 많아 제작진이나 시청자 모두 여유로운 분위기다.

출발을 나란히 한 수목극 세 작품이 큰 격차 없는 시청률 성적을 보이고 있는 가운데, 연장 방송을 통해 종영까지 나란히 하게 될이지 관심이 모아진다.

SBS '검사 프린세스'서 매력적인 변호사 서인우 역

(고양=연합뉴스) 윤고은 기자 = "캐릭터에 첫눈에 반했는데, 하면 할수록 더 마음에 듭니다."

박시후(32)는 이렇게 말하며 기분 좋게 웃었다. 자신이 맡은 캐릭터에 대해 자랑하는 게 쑥스러운 듯도 했지만, 숨기려야 숨길 수 없는 신명이 고스란히 묻어났다.

지난 7일 경기 탄현 SBS 제작센터에서 SBS TV '검사 프린세스'를 촬영 중이던 박시후는 "최근 3일간 1시간 정도 잤나 싶지만 피곤한 것도 잘 못 느끼겠다. 촬영이 너무 재미있고 신난다"고 말했다.

방송 3사의 치열한 수목극 전쟁 속에서 '검사 프린세스'의 시청률은 9~10%로 저조한 편이다. 하지만 체감 인기는 그 몇 배 이상이고, 그런 반응 덕인지 시청률과 상관없이 최근 광고도 완판 됐다.

특히 남자 주인공 서인우 변호사에 대해서는 시청자들이 '서변앓이'(서인우 변호사 때문에 가슴앓이를 하고 있다는 뜻)라는 말을 만들어내며 열광하고 있는데, 박시후가 바로 그 서인우를 연기하고 있다.

"서인우는 정말 멋진 남자입니다. 뭐하나 빠지는 게 없어요. 그러니 시청자들도 좋아할 수밖에 없는 것 같아요. 캐릭터가 워낙 좋으니 요즘 젊은 팬들이 부쩍 늘었어요.(웃음) 10대, 20대 팬이 갑자기 많이 늘어난 것 같아요. 오늘도 제 팬분들이 우리 팀을 위해 저녁 회식을 준비하셨는데 너무 감사하죠."

박시후는 비밀을 간직한 서인우를 맡아 양파껍질 벗겨 내듯 다양한 모습을 보여주고 있다. 한 작품에서 변화무쌍한 연기를 펼치게 되니 연기자로서는 멋진 기회인 것이다.

"정말 너무 재미있어요. 유들유들한 모습, 카리스마 넘치는 모습, 슈퍼맨 같은 모습, 키다리 아저씨 같은 모습에 심지어 작가 행세까지 하고 있잖아요. 여러가지 모습을 보여주면서 캐릭터가 확확 바뀌니 연기하는 것 자체가 즐거워요. 무엇보다 그런 변신이 애매하게 이어지는 것이 아니라, 분명한 상황과 이유 속에서 이뤄지니 멋지죠. 연기자로서 이런 역을 만나기가 쉽나요."

패션에서도 박시후는 이전에는 볼 수 없었던 과감한 선택을 하며 눈길을 끌고 있다.

"서인우가 자유로운 영혼의 소유자이다 보니 패셔너블한 의상들을 마음껏 소화하고 있습니다. 그동안은 작품 속에서 주로 깔끔한 수트 차림이었는데, 이번에는 평소 못 입어본 여러가지 옷들을 입을 수 있어 그것 또한 즐겁습니다."

부모를 억울하게 잃고 어린 시절 미국으로 입양돼 변호사로 성장한 서인우는 아버지의 누명을 벗기기 위해 한국으로 돌아와 검사 마혜리(김소연 분)에게 의도적으로 접근했다. 그러나 천진난만하고 순수한 마혜리를 사랑하게 되면서 심한 갈등에 빠져버린 상태다.

"지난 6일 방송에서 서인우는 미국을 잠시 다녀온 뒤 마혜리에 대한 마음을 정리했어요. 냉정하게 돌아섰죠. 마혜리를 이용해 아버지의 복수를 하려고 했다가 흔들리는 자신을 발견하고 애써 마음을 다잡았는데, 앞으로 서인우가 어떻게 할지는 저 역시 기대됩니다. 솔직히 쪽대본이 나와서 뒤를 예측하기가 힘들지만, 쪽대본 자체가 완성도 있게 나오기 때문에 연기하는 데 문제는 없어요. 그보다는 대본이 너무 흥미진진해 연기자 입장에서도 뒷얘기가 너무 궁금해요.(웃음)"

지난해 시청률 47.1%로 막을 내린 '찬란한 유산'의 소현경 작가-진혁 PD 콤비가 다시 뭉친 '검사 프린세스'는 외모 꾸미는 데만 관심 있는 '된장녀' 검사 마혜리가 강력사건들과 부딪히며 진정한 검사로 변모하는 과정을 그리면서 그 안에 큰 줄기의 미스터리한 사건을 녹여놓아 흥미를 끌고 있다. 서인우는 바로 그 미스터리를 풀기 위해 지난 2년간 주도면밀하게 준비해온 인물이다.

"객관적으로 봐도 우리 드라마가 참 재미있는데 초반에 기선제압을 하지 못한 게 계속 이어지는 것 같아 안타까워요. 체감 시청률은 20%를 훌쩍 넘어서고 있고, 지금껏 했던 드라마 중 가장 반응이 뜨거운 것 같은데 시청률이 너무 안 나와 안타까울 따름입니다."

'넌 어느 별에서 왔니', '완벽한 이웃을 만나는 법', '일지매'에서 워밍업을 한 박시후는 SBS TV 주말극 '가문의 영광'에서 처음으로 주인공으로 발탁돼 호평을 받았다. 그리고 '검사 프린세스'를 통해서는 미니시리즈 드라마의 주인공이 돼 매력을 발산하고 있다. 또래 연기자들보다 늦은 20대 후반에야 이름을 알리게 됐지만 빠른 속도로 성장 중이다.

"제가 작품 운, 작가 운이 있는 것 같아요. 또 '검사 프린세스'의 김소연 씨처럼 상대 배우 운도 좋고요. 김소연 씨는 정말 최고의 파트너예요. 연기 베테랑인 데다, 같이하면 너무 편해서 놀면서 연기하는 것 같은 느낌이 들어요. 덕분에 마혜리와 서인우의 호흡이 좋은 거고요. 이 드라마 끝나도 한동안은 시청자와 함께 '서변앓이'를 할 것 같습니다."
