Actor Gong Yoo donates $84K to help victims of flooding



Actor Gong Yoo has donated 100 million Won to help victims of flooding.

On August 14, the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association revealed Gong Yoo had donated 100 million Won ($84,279.43 USD) to help flood victims after the torrential rains this year. It's said he donated under his birth name Gong Ji Cheol rather than Gong Yoo in an effort to quietly aid relief efforts.

This past February, Gong Yoo also donated 100 million Won to help the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He's served as a representative for the UNICEF Korea Committee since 2014 as well.

In other news, Gong Yoo is expected to make a special cameo in the upcoming Netflix series 'Squid Game'.

Actor Gong Yoo spotted hanging out with Premier League soccer player Son Heung Min

Back on August 14, actor Gong Yoo and Premier League soccer player Son Heung Min were spotted posing together along with photographer Choi Young Bin!

 

The three men were pictured in a recent Instagram story post via Choi Young Bin's SNS. This marks soccer player Son Heung Min's first public spotting since his return to Korea last month, after finishing up his 2019-2020 English Premier League season with Tottenham Hotspur. After arriving in Korea back on July 28, Son Heung Min underwent a self-quarantine period of 14-days. 

 

Meanwhile, photographer Choi Young Bin and actor Gong Yoo are known for being close acquaintances after working together for a 'Harper's Bazaar China' photoshoot in the past.

MBC Responds To Reports Of “Coffee Prince” Cast Reunion For Documentary
 

The cast of the hit 2007 drama “Coffee Prince” might be coming together for a reunion!
 

On August 21, News1 reported that a new documentary project was being made about “Coffee Prince” that would feature the lead actors. This documentary project is rumored to launch in September on DOCUFLEX. Rather than focusing on the cast’s reunion, however, the documentary is reportedly set in an interview format about the meaning of youth.
 

A source from MBC stated, “It’s true that we’re producing a ‘Coffee Prince’ documentary. But the broadcast details and contents have not been finalized.”

“Coffee Prince” is an 18-episode mini-series that aired in 2007 about a woman named Go Eun Chan, who pretends to be male in order to get a job as a café waiter and pose as the fake boyfriend of Choi Han Kyul, who is trying to avoid an arranged marriage. The drama scored high ratings at the time and most of the cast, which includes Gong Yoo, Yoon Eun Hye, Lee Sun Gyun, Kim Dong Wook, Chae Jung An, and Kim Jae Wook, have gone on to stellar careers.

Park Bo Gum Shares Advice He Received From Gong Yoo

In his upcoming film “Seo Bok,” Park Bo Gum will play mankind’s first human clone, named Seo Bok.

“It’s a film that allows us to think about the dignity of humanity, and it carries the message that humans shouldn’t become overly ambitious,” he said. “It also allows us to think about the advancement of life science technologies.” He said with a laugh, “Seo Bok has a neat and healthy look.” He shared that the name of the character means “Live peacefully and for a long, long time.”

“Since the character doesn’t have big emotional changes, it was difficult to act with detail,” he said. “I was able to learn a lot on set while working with the director and Gong Yoo.”

“I found that Gong Yoo is very good at immersing himself in the moment,” he said. “I once asked him for advice on how to act angry. He told me that if you just confidently let out a yell, then that feeling comes to you. There are also times when an actor feels embarrassed about expressing some emotion because even though it’s important to have had the character’s previous emotions built up beforehand, you can’t film everything in order like that. He told me that in times like that, using mind control is important.”

Gong Yoo to Star in "The Silent Sea" With Bae Doona and Lee Joon

Actors Gong Yoo, Bae Doona and Lee Joon have been cast for "The Silent Sea" which is produced by actor Jung Woo-sung.

Netflix announced on the 8th that Bae Doona, Gong Yoo and Lee Joon will be starring in actor Jung Woo-sung's first production.

The drama deals with a space mission to collect abandoned research samples from the moon.

Gong Yoo will be playing the role of team leader Han Yoon-jae. His priority is the safety and survival of the crew, being aware of a previous tragic accident involving the research sample's past. He goes head to head with doctor Song Ji-an who's first priority is gathering samples.

The role of the research doctor, named Song Ji-an, will be played by Bae Doona, who is seeking to expose the accident publically.

Lee Joon will play Ryoo Tae-seok, an engineer with elite military training with his own reasons for volunteering for such a dangerous mission.

Director Choi Hang-yong, who directed a short film of the same name, re-directed "The Silent Sea" with an extended story. The drama is written by Park Eun-kyo.

Gong yoo talks about the silent  sea 

Gong yoorecently appeared in a photoshoot for the October issue of GQ Magazine. He can be seed wearing a wide variety of suits, and the photos also emphasize his physical side. An interview in GQ also goes into why Gong Yoo decided to make "The Silent Sea" his next drama following his last drama appearance in the megahit "Goblin" from 2016.

According to Gong Yoo, the reason was because he found the near science fiction nature of the setting to be appealing. Gong Yoo explained that he picks projects in the hopes they will give audiences something to reflect on. So he decided to go along with a story dealing with concerns of the immediate future.

Gong yoo also cited a desire for people to look at his filmography and think that he was compassionate. Gong Yoo will start filming "The Silent Sea" soon, having recently completed filming for the movie "Seo Bok", another science fiction project. Neither "The Silent Sea" and "Seok Bok" have current release windows.

Gong Yoo Shares His Thoughts On The Future, Traveling, And More

The latest issue of GQ features Gong Yoo talking about his life and career!

After a photo shoot to capture his classy and dandy side, Gong Yoo talked about his love for the “classic” style. He said, “I’m becoming more and more nostalgic about classical things, not only in terms of fashion, but also furniture and cars. It’s not until time passes that you get to know how amazing it is. Personally, I prefer basic and classic outfits, like what I wore today, rather than excessive or fancy ones. It’s a natural appearance for someone my age.”

 

The actor also talked about losing a lot of weight for his role in the upcoming movie “Seo Bok” (tentative title) with Park Bo Gum. He explained, “The reason I went on another diet was to change my face. The character Ki Heon is not a healthy person, so his face had to look a bit gaunt. I also worked out, so my face became thinner, and I gained more muscle mass. In the movie, I play the role of protecting Seo Bok, the first human clone. Park Bo Gum, who plays Seo Bok, has a sturdy frame and is not as delicate as you think he is. So I kept that in mind and focused on getting bigger.”

When the interviewer mentioned a majority of his projects revolved around the topic of “humanism,” he said, “When I reflect on my filmography over time, I think my starting point is compassion for humans, including myself. I used the word ‘vulnerable’ a lot when I was filming ‘Goblin.’ I think humans are infinitely vulnerable animals. I don’t know if it sounds grand, but I think it’s vague. Wouldn’t the world become more beautiful someday if we become more compassionate towards each other?”

 

Gong Yoo also talked about becoming more comfortable and flexible over time. He said, “I don’t have much greed. It’s such a cliché saying, but it’s hard to find a different way to express that. I kept telling myself, ‘It’s okay if I don’t do that right now. I don’t want to hurry.’ And I think it’s possible to turn those thoughts into reality at my age now. I’m more much relaxed and courageous, so I can do what I really want to do without caring about what other people think. I used to hate it when other people criticized me, but now, I don’t really care. I realize that I’ve missed so many enjoyable things just because I’ve been concerned about what others think. I think you can only feel lighter if you become free from such things.”

The interviewer pointed out that he once said he wants to run a small restaurant in Jeju Island one day. Gong Yoo commented, “Nearly 80 percent of the photos in my cell phone are of food. If the food in a restaurant looks really delicious and I become curious about the taste, I go eat it myself. I really adore food. Perhaps the reason why I said I wanted to open a restaurant was because of my attachment to a space. I have a desire to stay in a pretty and simple space, even if it’s very small. I don’t know if I’ll really open a restaurant later, but I want to live close to the countryside. I don’t want to live in a forest of buildings, like I do now.”

Gong Yoo mentioned traveling, saying, “I miss the sun in California. I lived in the United States for a month. When I woke up, I went to the local gym to exercise, and then I took a rented car for a drive on the west coast and walked to different places. I also went to the beach in swim trunks and flip-flops, and I would lie on the sand, read books, and listen to music. It was heaven. I like tanning, so I have a white plastic sunbed in my small terrace. When the weather is nice, I lie there with a can of beer. I listen to music and soak up the sun. It’s small happiness.”

 

The actor also shared his daily routine. He said, “I usually exercise. No matter how much I drank the night before or no matter how tired I am, I head to the gym. When I come home from a shower after working out, I feel relieved that I didn’t fail today. It’s kind of an obsession. I need to work out to eat comfortably. As I get older, my body breaks down much faster. If I don’t take care of it, it’ll become obvious. Now that I’m over 40, I realize that your body never lies. I can’t go to the gym these days, so I work out at home.”

Lastly, Gong Yoo talked about keeping a positive mindset. He said, “I’ve only lived half of my life, so I’m cautious about saying this, but in the end, my projects represent me. In some ways, people think that I actually have more than what I do, even though I really don’t have as much. When people see my usual self or my interviews, I think people give me more credit than what I deserve. I don’t think I’m that deep of a person, but since people see me in a positive light, that drives me to become a better person. I think I’m intertwined with the people who love and support me. I’m grateful that we’re aging well together.”
