Yukio Ninagawa's daughter and Anna Tsuchiya in "Sakuran"

Mika Ninagawa, the daughter of the famed stage director Yukio Ninagawa, debuts as a movie director with manga-based period drama "Sakuran", announced in a press conference on April 1.

This Moyoko Anno's manga is a youth story staged in Yoshiwara (the biggest redlight district in Tokyo area during Edo period), and the "Kamikaze girl" Anna Tsuchiya plays the main character (Kiyoha), an oiran (top-rank geisha in Yoshiwara).

Ninagawa states that her father only advised her to use number "B" pencil (I don't know how to say it in English - one grade softer than No. 2) with an eraser to take notes in the script. Tsuchiya says she is happy to play a role in Kimono, even though the costume is very heavy.

Other than her, Kippei Shiina and Miho Kanno are named as other cast. The filming has started in mid-March, and is scheduled to be released in 2007.

"Sakuran" is scheduled to be shown in Berlin Film Festival at the opening of Official Selection on February 9. On the red carpet in Berlin, Tsuchiya is scheduled to perform "oiran parade" wearing the full costume of an oiran.

I think it'd be a pretty interesting film. I like the plot of the manga + I love period films.. XD haha.. this is random.. but dont you guys think that the design of the film's webbie is waaaaaaay cool? >.<;; Ah~ and the music for this film is bound to be good.. Shiina Ringo is the music director.. ^^

I'm excited to watch Sakuran! She seems rebellious and it looks to be a fun movie.

I love her vocals in Kuroi Namida, it sounds just as good as when she was in Spin Aqua. Did she stop smoking maybe?

I think Anna's quite pretty but often she uses too much makeup and her hairsyle doesn't suit her. I would like to see her with long, dark hair instead of bleached short hair!

It is official! From the hit anime "NANA", which began broadcasting in Spring 2006, Anna Tsuchiya's "NANA" (BlackStones) and Olivia Lufkin's "REIRA" (Trapnest) will be sharing the same stage once again!

To commemorate the release of one another's album, the "NANA Premium Live" will take place for one night only in Shibuya-AX, using "NANA" the anime as it's theme. Not shown in neither the manga or movie, fans will finally be able to see the real "BlackStones VS Trapnest."

Anna Tsuchiya and Olivia Lufkin have not performed on the same stage since last year's "NANA Special Street Live" on June 25th 2006. And since it was a guerilla concert, the show was scheduled for 1 hour, with only 4 songs performed.

Also notable, is the fact that tickets are not being sold for the "NANA Premium Live." Only those who purchase either the "Anna inspi' Nana (BlackStones)" album, or the "Olivia inspi' Reira (Trapnest)" album, which both releases on February 28th 2007, will receive an invite to attend the show. A postcard application for a ticket to the "NANA Premium Live," will be inside either one of the albums. To qualify, the application must be postmarked and sent by March 5th 2007. So good luck to many "NANA" fans! It sounds like the wonderful world of "NANA" will come through with another event that you won't soon forget.

its quite the colorful film..and i want to watch it because of the way it is directed and shot! ooh--another awesome film..

i think this will be more interesting them 'memoirs of a geisha' ^x^
