USA always makes it to the semi's whether their bet sucks or not for ratings (I don't know why the network is always giving more importance to the ratings in the US, the show gets pretty big ratings in South America and Latin America). But this year, I can really say that Rachel is really deserving. And she could win, since 2000, 5 Miss Universes were from North America

2001- Denise Quinqones from Puerto Rico

2002- Justine Pasek from Panama (Original Winner from Russia was dethroned)

2003- Amelia Vega from the Domincan Republic

2005- Natalie Glebova from Canada

2006- Zuleyka Rivera from Puerto Rico

Yup I think it was her dad who was from Panama. And even though she doesn't win miss universe, she's kinda miss universe already since Miss USA is under the Miss Universe Organization. She gets practically the same prices as Miss Universe except that the Miss Universe's crown is more expensive and some are grander. But for the whole year, she gets to share an apartment with Miss Universe, and Miss teen USA.

nadine did? where'd you get that info from? it's kinda weird because after the pageant they hung out in indonesia because zuleyka was invited to the miss indonesia pageant and nadine was pretty sweet in 2006. the biyatches i heard were bolivia and peru from 2006.

i know for sure though that miss france 2006, alexandra rosenfeld said that she was disappointed with MUO's decision but that she had nothing againsts zuleyka.

oh yeah i remember that, that's also where i read the miss france thing, but a lot of the girls actually felt the same way. i just saw zuleyka in some recent and she gained lots of weight now, so much better looking than when she was so skinny.

and yeah, the contestants this year are actually pretty bad compared to previous years. it's kind of a good thing though since more countries are getting noticed.
