“Moorim School” Cast Have a Blast During Their First Script Reading

The cast of the upcoming action-romance drama “Moorim School” had their first script reading together.

moorim-school.jpg

The script reading took place on October 6, where producer Lee So Yeon, Shin Hyun Joon, Lee Hyun Woo, Seo Ye Ji, VIXX’s Hongbin, Jung Yoo Jin, Sam Okyere, Kan Mi Yeon, and so many more actors filled the room.

“Please read comfortably,” producer Lee So Yeon told them, as they began reading. As they read, the actors did such a great job that people wondered, “Is this their actual personality?” The atmosphere became very energetic and the room was filled with laughter not too long after they began. During their break time, the cast took selfies with each other and became good friends in a short amount of time.

Meanwhile, “Moorim School” will air in January 2016 on KBS.

Yeay, Shin Hyun Joon is in and he will be the principal. I bet he love his KBS so much. With script reading as early as 3 months before. I hope it will be like they will be filming and half-produced for the series.

Stars absent from Daejong Film Awards

image

The 52nd Daejong Film Awards on Friday were not quite a star-studded affair as the nominees for top prizes, including Best Actor and Actress, skipped the annual ceremony.

Although many nominees who did not attend gave reasons such as scheduling conflicts, others openly boycotted the awards, criticizing the organizing committee for poor management and lack of independence from the government.

The Daejong Film Awards organizers announced at a press conference on Oct. 14 that attendance at the actual ceremony would be prerequisite for winning awards, immediately provoking accusations it was giving out “attendance awards” to try to coerce stars into coming to the event.

Soon after the announcement, all nine of the nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress said they would not be attending the ceremony for various reasons. The nominees included Hwang Jung-min (“Ode to My Father”), Ha Jung-woo (“Assassination”), Son Hyun-ju (“Chronicles of Evil”) and Yoo Ah-in (“Veteran,” “The Throne”) for Best Actor and Jun Ji-hyun (“Assassination”), Kim Yun-jin (“Ode to My Father”), Kim Hye-soo (“Coin Locker Girl”), Uhm Jeong-hwa (“Wonderful Nightmare”) and Han Hyo-joo (“The Beauty Inside”) for Best Actress.

Hwang Jung-min and Jun Ji-hyun were named the winners, but neither were present to accept the awards. They were not alone; a total of 11 categories found their winners absent from the scene. Kim Soo-hyun and Gong Hyo-jin, who had been voted Most Popular Actor and Actress, respectively, also did not attend to accept -- ostensibly because of complaints over Daejong’s decision to charge a fee to fans who voted.

The ceremony was filled with awkward silences as the few stars who were present accepted trophies on the winners’ behalf. Director Lee Byoung-heon (“Twenty”), who was nominated for Best Director, was asked to accept the award for fellow nominee Baik (“The Beauty Inside”), although according to Lee the two directors had never met.

The tension only escalated as the night progressed when it turned out that “Ode to My Father” won 10 categories, including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Photography and Best Editing, leading director JK Youn to apologize out of embarrassment for coming up on stage so often during the event.

"Bad Guys Always Die" actor and actress Shin Hyeon-joon and Son Ye-jin and director Kang Je-gyu have something special going on.

"Bad Guys Always Die" is about a group of friends who go on vacation to Jeju Island and meet Ji-yeon, a mysterious woman. Son Ye-jin was initially cast as the female character of Kang Je-gyu's blockbuster "My Way" but the movie rotated heavily on war and on Jang Dong-gun and Joe Odagiri, so that fell through. Shin Hyeon-joon was in Kang Je-gyu's "The Gingko Bed" as General Hwang. This time Shin Hyeon-joon and Son Ye-jin are both in Kang Je-gyu's "Bad Guys Always Die".

"Bad Guys Always Die" will be released on the 4th of February.

‘Bad Guys Always Die’ opens in Korea amid concerns

International action movie “Bad Guys Always Die” was released Thursday in Korea, but prospects for the movie are dim, according to local reports.

This comes after a release in China market in Nov. 27, where it took in $4.88 million on its opening weekend at the Chinese box office but dropped down the rankings the following week, partly by the dominance of American science fiction movie “The Martian.”

Mainly filmed on Jejudo Island, the actors, actresses and staff are from different backgrounds and nationalities. Taiwanese actor Chen Bo-lin and Korean actress Son Ye-jin costar in the action-comedy flick, directed by Chinese filmmaker Sun Hao. Korean filmmaker Kang Jae-kyu and Chinese film director Feng Xiaogang coproduced the film, which cost some 15 billion won ($12.4 million) to produce.

Despite its star-studded cast and spectacular budget, Korean reports show concerns about the success of the ambitious multinational collaboration.

The foremost concern is the competition: American comedy “Kung Fu Panda 3” and Korean crime movie “A Violent Prosecutor,” which are effectively dominating the Korean box office.

A second problem “Bad Guys Always Die” might suffer is the potential of Korean viewers watching the movie through illegally downloads. According to reports, the contents are available since the movie was already released in mainland China.

The movie "Bad Guys Always Die" traces a Chinese teacher in Busan, Korea (Chen Bo-lin) who encounters a mysterious lady (Son Ye-jin) in Jeju Island and is suddenly kidnapped.
