Can't Play Video Files?

Windows Vista Home Premium
I bought a new laptop with Windows Vista. I can play files but it has some problems in VideoLAN.

I'm not sure if it's Windows Vista or if it's me. It displays like a few seconds of Goong S and after it just shows green, red, blue, black, brown screens where the video should be o_O.

I have xvid installed. Not sure what the problem is =(!

VLC officially does not support Vista at the moment- even if you get all the codecs and such.

*edit*

There is in fact, a work around.

In VLC, go to Settings> Preferences>Video (category)> Output modules>Direct X. (Click on the "Advanced options" button in the lower right).

Now, uncheck "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions"

Then click on the "Output modules" category and select "Windows GDI video output" as the Video output module. It should work perfectly fine now. :) It's even compatible with Aero.
