Knossos Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 yea so much for sunday's bestI have to go to church this Saturday really don't want to but I've been forced by friends and can't say no this time =( what am I supposed to wear? I live in the NYC area and it's really cold but I think it'd be in the 40's F on Saturday. So what am I supposed to wear? Can I wear jeans and sneakers to church? please say yes please...

I can wear jeans and sneakers at the church I go to, like as if I was just going out with friends. However, at a church I went to when I was on vacation, most people were pretty much dressedup.

Guest boraxkim Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 you should really wear the best that you have.. i mean, you're going to church to meet Jesus, why would you wear just anything? you have to be presentable.. i guess you can wear jeans but it's best not to, but you know most people do it anyways.. just wear a nice shirt (not a regular T-shirt, wear a button-down) and khakis (JEANS IF YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE) and no sneakers edit - i just realized you said Saturday...did you mean Sunday or are you going to like a youth group meeting on saturday?? if it's just a meeting, then i guess you can dress comfortably but, again, be presentable

If your friends or church members criticize you for it, tell them that you came to church for God, not a fashion contest, and that they are being too materialistic instead of focusing on really matters about church. That might shut them up. I never got why people dressed in suits and dresses for church anyway. But if you really do want to look nice, a nice pair of jeans and a blouse should do it. Not point in freezing to death just to look nice.

I know I don't, and nobody else around me does.. so it's just school wear really. Just a big point not to show too much skin (unless you live somewhere hot?) and don't wear ripped stuff. For the most part, if you dress fobby(like large amoutn of soompi?), you are good to go.

Guest jenniful92 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 at my church most of the adults dress up. the men wear suits and whatnot and women wear dresses, heels, etc. i'm in youth and we all just wear what we would to school or something. however, try and avoid anything too flashy and revealing. :|

For the most part, if you dress fobby(like large amoutn of soompi?), you are good to go. i agree...i just dress casually (but nicely) to my church (christian)...no one will shoot you down for wearing a shirt and jeans and sneakers...but most guys try to at least wear a collared shirt instead of a regular t-shirt. I know like catholic churches and more "stricter" churches (mormons, etc) tend to go semi-casual to semi-formal. now if it's a buddhist church (lol, u didnt specify), i've seen guys just wear a collared shirt and jeans.

The one I go to regularly with my friend is totally rules-free and our pastor doesn't care at all as long as we act politely (and not shouting out curse words o_o; But I've been to a different church a few times and they have very strict rules, everyone there is dressed up conservatively and neatly. Just ask your friend what would be appropriate.

I wear skirts and shirts to my church, but you could probably wear jeans, pants and shirt. Something you'd wear to dinner with your parents i guess?

If you overdress, people might think you're weird. x) In my church, usually the older girls like college&older dress up nicely. My friends that are in high school wear clothes looking like they sleep in during the summer. :X But then again, my church could be different from others since all of us grew up in it. Just look comforable and casual. It's fine as long as you don't look like you're about to sleep. (:
