Guest tainted_innocence Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Shoot out recommendations for quality movies please. I've been too caught up on dramas... the last good movie I watched was Taegukgi. I'm looking for the best of any genre. If it's comedy, please let it be tears-in-your-eyes funny. If it's horror, it should be wet-your-pants scary. I also like having a good cry over melodrama. Sypnoses would be nice too <3.(The movies don't have to be American.) Thanks~!
Guest Epikt Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Absolute best movie ever made of the whole galaxy : Gaichu, aka Harmful Insect, by Akihiko Shiota. (see the trailer here)
Guest asianrice Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 3 Iron (aka Empty House). The whole movie is practically silent (the main character never spoke a word) and the plot is astonishing. The movie is filled with symbolism, so people that don't want to look deeper probably won't understand it at all (even I had to watch it several times to grasp it), but it's really worth it. The movie won't make you cry or.. wet your pants. But it's just beautiful.. and might freak you out a bit. (and JaeHee plays in it *points at your signature* XD) A Review: http://worldfilm.about.com/od/korea/fr/3Iron.htm
xkrndreamer Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 i really liked the departed and little miss sunshine. both nominated for ocars
Guest Mme. De Giry Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 yeah, taegukgi was . korean movies a moment to remember (it's still a tear-jerker, i know. but it's sooo heartbreakingly good.) my tutor friend ( extremely funny. highly recommended!) my little bride (the "ghost" scene was particularly funny.) american movies clue (when you said "tears-in-your-eyes funny," this was the first thing that came to mind. it's a fairly old movie, but the whole situation is sooo hilarious. it's based on the gameboard. people get killed, and you figure out who did it. it's still sold in walmart, as far as i know. ) legacy of evil (for horror. i watched it when i was a kid, and i still can't forget it. it's still haunting me.) american dreamz (iqbal was particularly !)

Guest dolce.vita Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 The Illusionist this movie is really good <3 my family watched on a plane, and we actually all like it lol
Guest tuxed0sam Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 The Illusionist this movie is really good <3 my family watched on a plane, and we actually all like it lol man..i hated that movie. it was a waste of time. what are the reasons why you liked it? The Hours It was cohesively just well done. Great Acting. Probably some of the best acting you could get in a movie ensemble. The dialogue was intelligent, thoughtful and it had substance that most movies lack. Lost In Translation Gosh. I can't even express how much I liked this movie. The odd chemistry that worked so well between Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson that allowed viewers to unerstand the desperate and utter monotnous feelings and lives they were feeling and living. It was just a masterpiece.
Guest graceyoon Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 i really enjoyed the constant gardner, the interpreter and eternal sunshine for the spotless mind if ur looking for melodrama.. i guess the last one isn't really melodrama but i don't know what to categorize it as? i thought stuck on you was a cute and funny film as well.
Korowa Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 The Last Kiss Finally saw it today and it was one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life! I know that not all with agree with me though.
Guest Childlike Faith Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 New movies? I only know old ones. You've probably seen at least one of these. Check out the Oscars tonight. Sorry for the crap summaries. Haha. The Lord of the Rings trilogy - Uh. Ah. Basically, a hobbit inherits an evil ring and has to get rid of it. Only movie to win 11/11 Oscars. x) Schindler's List - It's a touching story about a man who saves over 1,000 Polish Jews during the Holocaust. Saving Private Ryan - About a squad of US Army Rangers during WWII who are on a mission to find a soldier so he can go home because all of his brothers have died. Something the Lord Made - It's about the discovery of a cure for blue baby syndrome and how an African American man was a big part of it, but was never recognized because he was a colored man. Hotel Rwanda - Based on true events about the Rwandan genocide between two ethnic groups. - The Lake House/ Il Mare (The American and Korean version are both good.) - Infernal Affairs I & II/ The Departed (Both Chinese and American, IA III isn't that great...)
Sailorprinzess Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Pan's Labyrinth - This movie is absolutely stunning from beginning to end. Ima Ai ni Yukimasu - My favorite Japanese movie. It's sweet, and very endearing, yet sad. Crash Spirited Away Princess Mononoke The Labyrinth The Goonies Forrest Gump
tracycutie Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 i dunno if you've seen it..but i would recommend: THE OTHERS A woman named Grace (Kidman) is living with her two children Anne and Nicholas (Mann and Bentley) on an almost empty island in their huge mansion. Grace's husband is a soldier in WWII and Grace has given her husband up for dead. Everything seems peaceful for her, but when three mysterious servants are given jobs at the house, terrifying secrets are unlocked that even Grace cannot handle. THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO 'The Count of Monte Cristo' is a remake of the Alexander Dumas tale by the same name. Dantes, a sailor who is falsely accused of treason by his best friend Fernand, who wants Dantes' girlfriend Mercedes for himself. Dantes is imprisoned on the island prison of Chateau d'If for 13 years, where he plots revenge against those who betrayed him. With the help of another prisoner, he escapes the island and proceeds to transform himself into the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo as part of his plan to exact revenge. LOVE ACTUALLY Christmas time in England, and unusual things going on round. Some people are falling in love, then breaking up or some people just desperately lonely and still looking for that someone special. This is a story about 8 people who follow their hearts and show love or anger. If you look carefully around 'Love Actually' is all around you... well these are old movies but i can't think of anymore as of now...but i'll add if any comes to mind
