rubie
October 26, 2007 The Good, The Bad, The Weird wraps up China shootDarcy Paquet (KOFIC) The cast and crew of KIM Jee-woon's hotly anticipated western The Good, The Bad, The Weird has overcome extreme weather and unexpected delays to wrap up a 100-day shoot in China. Production of the film is now 80% complete, with the remaining 20% of shooting to take place in North Jeolla Province. A release is expected in the first half of 2008.The entire production crew for the China shoot numbered more than 400 people, who struggled to deal with desert conditions where temperatures ranged from 10 degrees Celsius at night to 40 degrees in the afternoon. The remote site also presented many challenges, as some of the best shooting locations were inaccessible by road. Nonetheless, with close assistance from China Film, the crew was able to complete the difficult shooting and return to Korea. The film features top stars JUNG Woo-sung ("The Good"), LEE Byung-heon ("The Bad") and SONG Kang-ho ("The Weird") in a story set during the Japanese occupation of Korea and Manchuria. Thanks to the resume of director KIM Jee-woon -- responsible for such Korean cinema classics as The Foul King, A Tale of Two Sisters and A Bittersweet Life -- it is considered one of the most anticipated Korean films of 2008.International sales agent Cineclick Asia will present a new promo reel of the film for buyers at the upcoming American Film Market in November. The crew were given half a month of rest when they returned home. There were complains about the feeling of sand flowing out from their body non-stop when they took their bath during their free time.Song Kang Ho said: "Sands seems to be flowing out from the body from places such as the ears and mouth non-stop. This first experience of shooting in the desert should not be under estimated".Lee Byung Hun who have attended a wedding party of a friend from the film company on 29 October said "Our greatest enemy is not separation from other people, but the sand storm". (shaking his head)"The condition of drinking water is also bad, it is common to see that the eyes are congested with red blood vessels due to the strong sands. It is a blessing that our country has bright sky and also fresh air".

rubie
'The Good, The Bad, The Weird' finishes 100 days of Chinese location shootingFrom innolife.com, translated report by HycDirector Kim Ji-woon's movie 'The Good, The Bad and The Weird', (aka GBW) starring Song Kang Ho, Lee Byung Hun and Jung Woo Sung has finished its Chinese location filming. On July 16th, the location shooting started in various parts of Gansu Province such as Jiayuguan, the Silk Road near Taklamakan Desert, and Dunhuang that is famous for its oasis. The filming in China lasted for 100 days. The wide plain of unending horizon which fulfills the westernized genre of the movie can only be found in the inner land of China. According to Dir. Kim Ji-woon, "China is a place where you can get a beautiful picture beyond your imagination, and the hardship experienced by the 400 staff is beyond what is in Korea." In the daytime the highest temperature reaches 40 degrees, and the lowest temperature in the morning is about 10 degrees, a daily difference of 30 degrees. The sultriness of the desert, the dust and sand storm was a murderous environment for the staff. In order to get the desired scenery and there was no road in the chosen location, the staff had to build a 33km road for cars to enter. In the 100 days of shooting the impassioned performance of the three actors LBH, SGH and JWS, and the unique sceneries of China have raised expectations to the image that is not seen in the Korean movie to date. The movie 'GBW' is scheduled to finish the remaining 20% filming in Korea, and will be opened to the public in the first half of next year. Lee Byung Hun in particular, has travelled between Hong Kong and China to also shoot "I Come with the Rain" during his busy schedule. After experiencing several fierce sandstorms during the 100 days, the trio returned home safely on 23 October. However, according to the production company, they are only given 15 days of rest as filming will resume next month in the country (Korea).Elected as the highly anticipated film for next year, the film will have large scale train bandit as well as explosive scenes in China. The company planned to release the film during the New Year holidays. Guest ellabel
Yes, indeed.. he's not Korea's Best Actor for nothing. The reason why he's the first choice for "The Weird" and the movie ultimately with the storyline fixed around him, followed by the rest. SKH has great chemistry with BH.. they're both great in KJW's movies. Let's hope the movie will be 3 times as better. I agree. SKH is a consummate actor. I think his performance in JSA is superb and if LBH is a lesser actor, he cud have swallowed him in whole on their scenes together. Being the "weird" in this movie already has an edge. It's the more interesting, exciting and mysterious character. GBW's posters are awesome!!! Cant wait to watch it.

rubie
Anyone with gist? Something about GBW's tentative release date in 2008??? Or something else..
Copied from lunapark6.comThe Good, The Bad, and the WeirdWritten by luna6 Movie: The Good, The Bad, and the WeirdRelease Date: February 2008Country: South KoreaDirector: Ji-woon KimStarring: Byung-hun Lee, Kang-ho Song, Woo-sung JungProbably, the most highly anticipated Korean film in recent years and likely to break box office records soon after its February, 2008 release would be Ji-woon Kim’s “The Good, The Bad, and the Weird”. Marketed as an Oriental Western and inspired by the Sergio Leone film of similar name, “The Good, The, and the Weird”, stars three heavyweights in the Korean film industry. Byung-hun Lee (A Bittersweet Life) plays The Bad, Kang-ho Song (Secret Sunshine) plays the Weird, and Woo-sung Jung (Musa The Warrior) plays the Good. Plot Synopsis : In the 1930s, the world is in chaos. In Northeast Asia, the Korean Peninsula has fallen into the hands of the Japanese Imperialists. Many Koreans have flocked to Manchuria, the vast terrain of horses and wilderness bordering their homeland and China. Some of them, inevitably, have turned into mounted bandits to earn their living in this barren wasteland. Tae-gu (The Weird) is a thief. He robs a train of Japanese military officers, but the incident is not as simple as it first seems. In the middle of this fierce gun battle against the Japanese, he obtains a mysterious map that leads to a treasure from the Qing Dynasty, buried somewhere in Manchuria. Yet, the map is also sought by Chang-yi, the cold blooded hitman (The Bad). Tae-gu must fight not only the Japanese but also Chang-yi and his fellow thugs, who happen to attack the train at the same time. At the end of this intense gunfight, a mysterious man jumps into the center of the battle from nowhere and rescues Tae-gu with astonishing gunplay. Having survived the battle, Tae-gu thanks the man for saving his life. Yet, he does not know that this stranger is Do-won, the bounty hunter (The Good), who has been chasing Tae-gu to turn him in for a reward. These three men - Do-won (The Good), Chang-yi (The Bad) and Tae-gu (The Weird) - will soon discover that the map they are battling for is also a magnet that attracts others as diverse as the Korean resistance, Chinese/Russian/Korean mountain bandits and the Japanese army. The blazing gun battle in the train proves to be merely the beginning of the rollercoaster ride to the final showdown to come. The film is directed by Jee-won Kim, who has received critical and commercial success from past films like “The Foul King”, “A Tale of Two Sisters,” and “A Bittersweet Life”. He also directed and wrote the screenplay for the 1998 black comedy “The Quiet Family,” which went on to inspire Takeshi Miike’s “The Happiness of the Katakuris.” “The Good, The Bad, and the Weird” has a budget north of $10 Million and was shot largely in China. All signs point to a huge blockbuster that should provide many thrills. Mark your calendars for this film’s release.
