Sorry *venting post*
sorry... for posting this but... I don't know where to really go... I'm just mourning/feeling terrible...

so it started as my family in the philippines calling wanting a lot of money... they said that my mothers sisters daughter had a bump on her eye or something and needed surgery... we didnt take it seriously because a bump... how bad could it be? im not sure if people *know* how that stuff goes... but when you have foreign family they think you're so rich because you're in the US... so they ask for a lot of money often... We didn't have the money to give them... we told them we didn't... they kept trying to call... so my mother and I just took the battery out of the cordless phone... and just let it ring... we just felt they were being greedy.

they tried to contact us for a few days... check the caller id and 20+ calls a day... and... this morning my mom finally decided to pick up the phone...

her sisters daughter died and after talking to her sister... her sister collapsed... I feel terrible inside... we neglected our family...... and because of it... I have this awful pain in my stomach... i don't know..... :tears:

What ever comes, what ever goes. It is always better to make sure, whether or not it is necessary. In this case, since you have no money to lend, I suppose it isn't your fault.

RIP.

I know what you're talking about with the whole lending money thing. My mom (we live in the U.S) and my Uncle (they live in Australia) always try and send money every couple of months. Of my mom's family, my mom and uncle are the only ones living outside the philippines and it does seem like that they think that because we don't live in the Phillippines and managed to make a living in another country that we are rich, when we're not. I've even paid for one of my cousins tuition for college for a semester. Anyway, I'm sorry about what happened. And like everyone else has been saying, it isn't your fault, but I know you feel like it is. I hope you feel better soon.

im a filipino living in the philippines. okay, well what you said was true. because you know how the economy of the philippines is, right? so they kind of depend on their relatives earning money abroad. but dang, if i were in your place... i must've felt terrible too. :( i mean, i feel bad whenever i can't help any family member...

RIP to your cousin.. :(

another pinay here..

i know what you mean by that filipino mentality that just because

you were living somewhere other than the philippines,

your relatives or other people who know you think you are rich and what-not..

expectations are very high for those filipinos living in foreign countries,

so yeah, everyone gets the notion that they are rich or somethin'

when actually they are also struggling workin on those countries too..

and plus the family ties in the philippines is so close knit that

yes, there is a tendency to depend on each other when rough times come..

i'm so sorry with what happened to your cousin...

it will be hard for anybody to understand what you're feelin right now but i guess we all have an idea how devastated you are..

& it's difficult for anyone to be in that situation, i understand..

don't blame it on yourself, what can you do if you don't have the money to lend them, right?!

yeah, like everyone says, it's not your fault.. God's will be done..

i just hope that you'll feel a lot better..
