but wow LBS's acting is amazing and at first even

Anchor: Recently, the contest of 3 new Wednesday-Thursday dramas is bruising. "Dal Ja's Spring" and "Surgeon Bong Dal Hee" compete for the first place while "Palace S" is trailing behind. We invite reporter Jun Hyung Hwa (전형화) of "MoneyToday-StarNews" here to talk about TV viewers' choices and the individual feature among these 3 dramas.

Question: Why is the competition among 3 new Wednesday-Thursday dramas bruising? What is the result yesterday’s ratings?

Answer: In the beginning, it is clear that none of the three new Wednesday-Thursday dramas is overwhelming with TV ratings around 15%. However, little by little, gaps of TV ratings appear recently. The first broadcasted drama "Dal Ja's Spring" had TV ratings around 10%, but now its ratings go up near 20%. There are 2 ~ 3% difference between the ratings of "Dal Ja's Spring" and "Surgeon Bong Dal Hee". The TV ratings of MBC's drama "Palace S" gradually went downward and recorded 10.2% yesterday. Since only a few episodes were aired, we'll see if ratings will change in the future.

Question: Viewers' reactions to "Dal Ja’s Spring" are getting better. Could you tell us what factors make its popularity go up?

Answer: It is like those recent trendy dramas portraying women in 30s. Parodies such as "Kill Bill" and "Hwang Jin Yi" are put into the drama. Chae Rim and Lee Hye Young's roles elicit fellow feelings from viewers.

Question: Is Chae Rim's role Dal Ja very similar to the one played by Kim Sun Ah in "My Name is Kim Sam Soon"?

Answer: Dal Ja is not like Sam Soon who works in professional business, but both are spinster in 30s. Both deal with younger men, like the character Byung Hee (병희) played by Go Hyun Jung in the drama "What's Up, Fox?" The role Bong Dal Hee played by Lee Yo Won is also a spinster in 30s. They all draw the same feelings from female viewers who are in 20s and 30s.

Question: Both Chae Rim and Lee Hye Young receive love from their viewers for their roles as commanding spinsters in 30s. What do you think about Lee Hye Young's new role? How about your impression of Gong Hyung Jin's performance as a flirting man?

Answer: Unlike her lively image in her music program, this time Lee Hye Young plays a home shopping show host Wee Sun Joo who is arrogant. In the beginning of the drama, she didn't receive attentions. However, as time goes by, her role's unique charisma is given up, and then she gains popularity. She showed her enthusiasm by her entertaining role in the show "Happy Sundy-Girl 6 (여걸식스)". Gong Hyung Jin has always successfully playing entertaining roles either in movies or dramas. This time he transforms into a flirting man with his comical performance. His energetic role helps the character played by Lee Hye Young. Career woman could give him some fantasy.

Question: Competing with Dal Ja played by Chae Rim, Lee Yo Won's character in "Surgeon Bong Dal Hee" is also a spinster in 30s. The name of both dramas is similar - Dal Ja and Dal Hee. Some people call it "Dal Women’s Competition (달녀의 전쟁)". What are the reactions from viewers of this drama?

Answer: Some people criticize that some scenes of "Surgeon Bong Dal Hee" are plagiarisms of the drama "Grey's Anatomy (그레이 아나토미)" aired in USA. Also, some people criticize that some scenes of "Dal Ja's Spring" are similar to that of Japanese drama "Anego (아네고)". However, even though some scenes are similar, the flow of the whole drama is different. Especially, these two "Dal Women" have different ways of success and life in society. Despite of some criticisms, viewers give them high evaluations.

Question: Is this Lee Yo Won's returning to TV drama for quite some time? Is this the first drama of the movie star Lee Bum Soo?

Answer: Lee Yo Won's previous drama was "Fashion 70's" aired one year 6 months ago. Different from her previous roles, this time her role Bong Dal Hee has warm personality. Dal Hee is not a typical doctor. It is unknown if Lee Yo Won is suitable for playing such a role. However, she certainly could present the cheerful and pure image of Dal Hee.

This is the first time that movie star Lee Bum Soo performs in drama. He accepts the offer because his role is charismatic. In his movie project, he has been playing comical roles. However, this role Ahn Joong Geun (안중근) is entirely different from his previous roles. Viewers give LBS good evaluations so far.

Question: "Palace S" is falling behind the other two dramas. It is unfortunate that its ratings keep descending compared with ratings of last week. What causes viewers become more distant from this drama?

Answer: "Palace S" is compared with the previously broadcasted "Palace". I try to observe the reasons why it drops off. It is known that this drama is the sequel of "Palace"; however, it is criticized that it actually is not a sequel. Performers are required to play characters in a period drama. Like the ordinary girl played by Yoon Eun Hye becoming Prince's wife in "Palace", Se7en plays a young man with similar background in this Chinese-version drama. As to its ratings, the acting skills of the leads Se7en, Huh Yi Jae, and Kangdu, who are all new actors and actress, are criticized. Moreover, its slow development is also a factor. Also, the promotions of "Dal Ja's Spring" and "Surgeon Bong Dal Hee" also cause this drama's low ratings.

Question: This week, "Palace S" records TV rating around 10%. Usually, female viewers in 20s and 30s affect TV ratings.

Answer: Female viewers in 20s and 30s could affect TV ratings. In the case of "Palace", it couldn't absorb viewers in 10s, 20s, and 30s. On the contrary, "Palace" received love from viewers of 20s and 30s results in TV ratings above 30%.

Also, the heroines in both "Dal Ja's Spring" and "Surgeon Bong Dal Hee" are spinsters in 30s, which pull female viewers in 20s and 30s. Thus, it appears that the future TV ratings of "Palace S" won't go up.

Question: So, what is the important competitive point of this 3-way contest in the future?

Answer: For a comical drama, "Dal Ja's Spring" has advantage. However, it will be interesting to see if the virtue - "Failure comes before success" would be realized by either and "Surgeon Bong Dal Hee" or "Palace S".

I personally like Dalja's Spring and Bong Dal Hee better than Goong S. Reasons are simple, they have better/veteran actors than Goong S.

After reading all the backlogs and I noticed there have been posts linking this drama to White Tower. May I know if the White Tower referring to, the

I'm still anticipating on this drama & hopes the C-subs can be released soon.

I've searched so far, only HJRX and a newcomer ZHBBS are doing the chinese subs,

and the c.subs are not coming in at the usual speed. There's only one episode so far.

they're questioning how a DOCTOR can be so naive and clumsy and how it's sort of unrealistic since doctors should never act that way. lol.....

I felt it too. It's very unbecoming of a doctor who has to think so hard to remember how to administer/carry out the correct procedures.

hmm...ive been hearing that this drama is like "Grey's Anatomy" and that alot of the viewers in korea are saying that this drama is a plagerism of "Greys A." but I dont know why ppl think its similar. Even though both shows are about surgical interns, the characters are really different and so are the happenings in the episode. People were saying that Bong dal hee is like Merideth but Merideth is a talented and skilled doctor who knows what she's doing while Bong dal hee is rather clumsy and seems more like the type to try hard rather than being a naturally gifted doctor. Anyways, the comparison is starting to get annoying.

Medical dramas thrill local TV audience

Historical dramas have ruled TV screens since last year with all three major broadcast stations in Korea rushing to produce epic series. But recently, local TV dramas seem to have found a new flavor. Making a big jump from using stories from ancient eras, TV screens have begun to focus on the lives of professionals living in the present, such as medical doctors.

MBC and SBS each began to air medical dramas earlier this month and the two serial dramas are both topping the viewer ratings chart. This is not the first time mainstream TV channels have produced medical dramas. But the latest trend, the so-called "medical drama boom," clearly shows that viewers are now turning their backs on "palpable" and "conventional" triangle love stories.

"Production companies started to address new subjects. This perhaps shows changes in viewers' preferences, leaning toward new subjects because they are fed up with watching melodramatic stories or comic dramas," a TV critic said. The two medical dramas both tell the stories of struggling surgeons and their isolated daily lives in big hospitals.

MBC's weekend drama "Behind the White Tower" portrays doctors' obsessions with power and success by revealing the brutal power games that unfold at a hospital recognized as the best medical institute in the country. The drama focuses on the story of a brilliant surgeon Chang Jun-hyuck who takes every possible opportunity to achieve his goal of becoming chief surgeon of the prestigious hospital.

Kim Myung-min, hero of the smash-hit KBS drama "Lee Sun-sin," takes the role of Chang, an ambitious and two-faced doctor who eventually loses his fame when he blindly disregards patients because of his obsessive ambitions.

Produced by renowned Kim Jong-hak Productions, known for filming a number of successful TV series, the drama attempts to depict the doctors' lives in a realistic way. It reportedly made a huge investment in building a set that resembles a real operating room complete with medical instruments.

It seems pointless to compare this drama with the medical drama "Surgeon Bong Dal-hee" aired on SBS, because the two take a different approach to telling the story of doctors.

If "Behind the White Tower" tells of a series of bitter power games at the male-dominated hospital, "Surgeon Bong Dalhee" entertains viewers with a softer story of a troublesome female doctor.

Bong Dal-hee is a resident doctor, a native of the remote Ulleung Island, who is making slow progress in becoming a surgeon. Bong struggles with other competent resident doctors but it is her compassionate character that wins patients' hearts. Star actress Lee Yo-won takes the role of the pure and innocent doctor on the drama which airs every Wednesday and Thursday night.

What differentiates this drama is that it contains a triangle love story and comedy, while MBC's "Behind the White Tower" takes a very serious look at power games among medical doctors. "Surgeon Bong Dal-hee" seems a bit like a Cinderella story when watching the troublesome resident doctor loved by two rival doctors, Ahn Jung-geun (played by Lee Bum-soo) and Lee Gun-woo (Kim Min-jun).

Thanks to the medical drama boom, other local TV channels also started to air foreign-made medical dramas such as the smash-hit series "Grey's Anatomy" and "E.R.," the original Japanese version of "White Tower (2003)."

The medical drama boom is likely to continue for the rest of the year as "General Hospital 2" is scheduled to air in March. Some filmmakers are also rushing to make films of medical dramas. "Gidam," a tragic story of doctors in the 1940s when the country was under Japanese colonial rule, featuring versatile actor Kim Tae-woo, is currently in production, sources say.

.dr ahn specialise in Pediatric Cardiology and it say he is one who see irresponsible doctors as a sin ..and he cannot tolerate mistakes and he very stern with the new resident doctors ..that why he so fierce with dr bong who keep making mistakes ..

dr ahn an orphan.er seem to have went through adoption and been abandoned before .

dr Bong Dal Hee [ Thoracic Surgeon] =>er i think that her department ..she was sickly when she was young that why she want to become a doctor but when she finally get into medicial university .she had to quit school after one year .for a heart operation ...she wanted to resumed her studies after it but her mother was against it so she stay at her hometown ....and was working as health check .er doctor or something....but then she applied for the hospital in seoul and managed to get it ..that how she ended up in seoul .

but actually in esp 1 ....she lied to her mother .saying she was going to london ..

this drama quite " action packed " ^^ i thought Dr bong was abit too nosiy at first ~ lol she keep blahing on and on while dr ahn was trying to save the man who has cardiac tamponade .=> aka he has blood or fluid accumulated around his heart ..so that why dr ahn need to get him to a nearby clinic to draw out the blood .[ lol i find it cute the drama like a medicial dictionary showing the different medical terms ..] oh then i realise she does know what it was but when dr ahn was shouting to her ..she cant remembered .

the pooh bear underwear was funnie .lol ..and that dr lee ..lol .he just cant quit to tease her about it .even asking her about her panties size all of a sudden .

but i do get abit scared seeing how er ..dr bong do her medicial training ...she might er accidentially *hurt patients * with her clumsy way ..i know is for dramatic effect ..but ..i hope they dun go too too unprofessional about it .

the cast pretty good .i like lee beom soo ~in here ^^ .good to have him come to the small screen ! ~

This is a really good show! There's all this hoopla about how it's similar to grey's anatomy...but i say...who cares. Actually, at a glance the drama may seem similar to GA but the background story is different and the conflict that ensues are different as well. In the end, this drama is entertaining -- It's one of the better dramas out there now.

I can't wait for this week's episodes. kiss on the cheek oooh la la hahaha
